Chapter 164: I’ll Support You By Handing Out Flyers Part 9
Since that day, Tao Ning hadn’t seen Fu Guanyue again, and this unexpected reunion was in the most unlikely of places.
She didn’t know what kind of impression she had left on Fu Guanyue, but her earlier words only made things more complicated.
Tao Ning felt she should explain, raising her phone: “I’m actually attending a parent-teacher meeting for my friend’s cousin.”
It wasn’t some random weekend overtime.
Fu Guanyue, hearing this, smiled politely and nodded: “I know.”
Then she asked, “Is this your new job?”
It sounded like a personal assistant’s duties.
Forgive Fu Guanyue, she had already forgotten about reporting the body and didn’t realize the “Boss Song” mentioned was the same person, she didn’t even know Tao Ning’s name.
Tao Ning: “…”
Seeing her expression, Tao Ning knew she didn’t believe her.
Moreover, she must have already created a new persona for Tao Ning, a struggling worker who had to attend parent-teacher meetings for her boss even on weekends.
She hadn’t missed the thoughtful look in Fu Guanyue’s eyes, as if she had figured something out, her attitude softening.
Unable to explain, Tao Ning changed the subject: “Which building are you going to? Perhaps we’re going the same way?”
“It seems like Si… I haven’t checked yet, wait a moment.” Fu Guanyue looked at her phone, struggling to navigate it, then realized she had forgotten which app it was.
Two days ago, Fu Guanyue had been begged by Fu Zhaozhao to attend the parent-teacher meeting, her parents being unavailable, and she couldn’t refuse her pitiful niece.
Then she had been asked to download a messaging app for easier communication, but she had been busy and asked her assistant, Fu Xi, to do it.
Fu Zhaozhao, knowing her aunt’s habits, that she occasionally read unread messages, then deleted them, as if practicing a “read and burn” policy with even digital messages, had sent the address and classroom information again this morning. However, the meticulous Fu Zhaozhao had overlooked one thing—her aunt had no idea what the app looked like!
And Fu Guanyue had also forgotten that Fu Xi had downloaded the app and registered the account, her own involvement limited to charging the phone and occasionally clearing all unread notifications.
That’s what she had done this morning, clearing all notifications.
She knew more about the contents of her family’s forbidden grounds than the apps on her phone, and unlocking the screen, she was faced with a sea of red notification dots, all seemingly from Fu Zhaozhao, but none actually were.
After scrolling for a while, Fu Guanyue still couldn’t find the right app, her brows furrowing slightly.
Tao Ning stepped closer and asked, “Didn’t she send it to you?”
Fu Guanyue stopped, replying truthfully, “She did, but I forgot where she sent it.”
Having picked up Fu Zhaozhao from school once, she knew the school’s address, but not the classroom.
“Forgot where?” Tao Ning was puzzled, did Fu Guanyue have so many accounts that she couldn’t find the message?
Fu Guanyue, looking at the colorful icons, found it even more confusing than deciphering talismans, her eyes glazing over.
She held up her phone: “Which app do you usually use? I don’t use my phone often, I can’t find it.”
The phone, with its minimalist wallpaper, was held before Tao Ning, who glanced at the screen, covered in small squares with red dots, most already cleared.
Those were the apps Fu Guanyue had checked, all unsuccessfully.
None of them were messaging apps, just random pages.
No wonder she couldn’t find it, the app wasn’t even on this page.
Tao Ning leaned closer, her slender finger swiping across the screen, then tapping on an icon: “Perhaps this one?”
“Where… Oh, you’re right.” Fu Guanyue looked down, finally finding Fu Zhaozhao’s message: “Found it, Siyuan Building, second floor, Class 2, Science stream.”
Tao Ning thought for a moment: “What a coincidence, I’m also on the second floor, but Class 7, a bit further down.”
Then she realized something, looking at Fu Guanyue, who was still looking at her phone.
So Fu Guanyue was lost, she hadn’t just run into her.
The school map she had just seen came in handy, Tao Ning knew the way.
She pointed at a partially visible building: “Siyuan Building is over there, let’s go together, it’s on my way.”
This was exactly what Fu Guanyue wanted, she hadn’t entered the school last time and didn’t know where Siyuan Building was.
Fu Guanyue: “Okay, let’s go.”
The school was crowded today, students and parents everywhere, the usually quiet campus bustling with activity, parents looking up at the building names.
Student volunteers wearing armbands were also present, guiding parents to their destinations.
Tao Ning and Fu Guanyue walked through the crowd, heading upstairs.
They ran into Fu Zhaozhao, who was coming down, dressed in her school uniform, a sheen of sweat on her forehead. Seeing Fu Guanyue, she said excitedly, “Little Aunt, you’re here! I thought you couldn’t find the place and was about to go look for you, but you actually found it yourself…”
Fu Guanyue stopped her before she could finish, hurrying up the stairs: “Someone helped me along the way.”
Fu Zhaozhao then noticed Tao Ning, pausing for a moment: “Ah, you’re that girl from the other day, haha.”
Only she knew the complicated emotions in Fu Guanyue’s eyes when she looked at Tao Ning.
—My parent-teacher meeting, is this also part of your plan, Little Aunt?
She had thought her aunt had given up, but unexpectedly, she had even managed to arrange a meeting at school, what a clever tactic, she didn’t believe it was just a coincidence.
Fu Guanyue, however, couldn’t understand her niece’s thoughts, unable to decipher her expression, so she simply said, “We ran into each other on the way, she’s also attending a parent-teacher meeting, so we came together.”
Hearing the first part, Fu Zhaozhao thought, As expected, but the second part disappointed her, it seemed to be a coincidence after all.
But that didn’t matter.
Fu Zhaozhao said, “What a coincidence, fate has brought you together.”
Tao Ning, climbing the stairs, nodded seriously: “Indeed, quite a coincidence.”
Fu Zhaozhao chuckled, “Hehehe, indeed.”
Fu Guanyue: “…”
The second floor was also crowded, the classroom seats occupied by parents, the students huddled in the corridor, chatting and reading, glancing up whenever someone approached, then returning to their books.
A microcosm of life, a fleeting glance, then moving on, no one remembering anyone, everyone busy with their own lives.
“I found a great restaurant last month, let’s go try it next time, I’ll take photos for you.”
A female student, talking to her classmate with her back to the stairwell, noticed her classmate suddenly fall silent, looking behind her.
Tugging on her classmate’s arm, she asked, “Why did you stop talking?”
Then she realized the corridor had become unusually quiet, and she turned around, curious.
A figure was slowly ascending the stairs, her black hair cascading down her back, a smile in her eyes, her lips curved upwards, dressed in a stylish linen dress.
A person seemingly favored even by the wind, a gentle breeze ruffling her hair, momentarily obscuring her delicate features, a slender finger tucking a stray strand behind her ear.
Just standing there, she was the center of attention, a natural light in the crowd.
Another figure followed, dressed in loose-fitting clothes, a cinnabar mole between her eyebrows, a cool and refreshing presence in the summer heat.
The female student looked back at the sun, partially hidden by the building, puzzled.
What was with all the eye candy today?
Fu Zhaozhao, reaching the second floor, turned to Tao Ning: “Which class are you going to, Sister? Classes 1 to 6 are this way, 7 and above are on the other side.”
Fu Guanyue also looked at her.
The building had a rectangular layout, with an open courtyard in the center, a statue and flowerbeds below, a popular spot for students to relax.
Of course, Fu Zhaozhao didn’t mention that there was another, closer stairwell leading to the other side.
Tao Ning glanced at the layout: “I’m going to Class 7, this way seems closer.”
Fu Zhaozhao’s classroom was on the left side of the stairwell, and after passing it, turning a corner would lead to Class 7.
A few people were already waiting outside the classroom, some chatting, others reading quietly.
Passing by Fu Zhaozhao’s classroom, Tao Ning waved: “I’ll be going then, bye.”
Fu Guanyue imitated her gesture: “Bye.”
As Tao Ning continued walking, Fu Guanyue was pulled into the classroom by Fu Zhaozhao, which was already filled with parents, the teacher having just left, a few class representatives maintaining order.
Fu Guanyue was led to a seat, Fu Zhaozhao’s desk neatly organized, a few small trinkets adding a personal touch.
The parent sitting next to her had left for a moment, a lipstick stain on the water cup indicating it was a woman.
Fu Zhaozhao, looking at the steaming cup, asked, “Do you want some water, Little Aunt? Or something else, juice or coffee? No, you don’t drink coffee, I’ll get you some water.”
In Fu Zhaozhao’s eyes, her aunt wasn’t a picky eater, but she also didn’t have any particular preferences, her only dislike being fish, even the smell of cooked fish.
Before Fu Guanyue could reply, Fu Zhaozhao had already gone to get a cup, and she could only wait.
The hot water dispenser was empty, they had to wait for it to reheat.
A girl, Fu Zhaozhao’s classmate, approached, lowering her voice: “Who’s that at your desk? I’ve never heard of you having a sister, are you hiding something? And that person who just walked past, the tall one, don’t tell me you don’t know her, I don’t believe you.”
Fu Zhaozhao, her lips pursed tightly, said casually, “That’s my aunt, and the other person is her friend, we went to an escape room together last week.”
Although the beautiful older sister was technically an employee dragged in by the boss, it wasn’t a lie.
Classmate: “Last week? The time you asked me and Li Xueran to go? You didn’t tell me your aunt and her friend were going.”
Fu Zhaozhao looked at the ceiling, then at the water dispenser: “It’s a bit slow… You guys were scared, so I didn’t ask you, I didn’t expect my aunt to be so fearless, and that sister was very good at solving puzzles, just a bit slow at finding clues.”
Fu Zhaozhao, unknowingly bragging, didn’t know that Tao Ning had been struggling with low blood sugar, and Fu Guanyue had been surprised she even managed to walk out on her own.
The more she said, the more regretful her classmate felt, having missed a chance to meet a beautiful older sister. She slapped Fu Zhaozhao’s shoulder: “You little devil, having fun without us, keeping it a secret! If you had told me, Li Xueran and I would have braved it, even if we were scared shitless!”
Fu Zhaozhao dodged, unable to suppress her smile: “You wouldn’t have believed me even if I told you.”
Her classmate was about to protest when Fu Zhaozhao whispered, “My aunt has very good hearing, she can hear us.”
“I don’t believe it, she’s so far away, and there are so many people, how could she…” Her classmate turned around and saw Fu Guanyue looking at them, not surprised by her sudden movement, nodding slightly in acknowledgement.
But they had never met before.
Classmate: “…”
Her face flushed red, and she quickly lowered her head: “No way, she can actually hear us from so far away?!”
Fu Zhaozhao poured the water, mixing it to a comfortable temperature: “Why would I lie? My aunt’s friend also has good hearing, she could even distinguish the doctor NPC’s footsteps amidst all the screaming.”
There was one more thing Fu Zhaozhao didn’t know.
Tao Ning also had excellent eyesight.
Walking down the corridor, passing by several classrooms, her gaze sweeping across the crowd, Tao Ning reached Class 7.
Song Yanshu’s cousin sat by the window in the last row, her chin resting on her hand, looking outside, a faint look of disappointment on her face, seemingly not having seen the person she was expecting.
She had forgotten that there was more than one way to reach Class 7, more than one stairwell, having focused on only one entrance, not noticing someone approaching from another direction.
Song Yanshu’s cousin was named Song Siran. Her parents had divorced when she was five, and she had been placed in her father’s custody, who later died in a car accident. Her mother had a new family and was willing to pay child support, but not to raise her.
With no one to care for her, Song Siran had practically been raised by the community, only moving in with Song Yanshu after starting high school.
Actually, no one dared to send her to Song Yanshu’s house, it was Song Yanshu herself, drunk one day, dragged to a funeral before she even sobered up, who had seen Song Siran being scolded and beaten in a corner.
Both having the surname Song, they were considered relatives.
On a whim, she brought Song Siran home, then, hearing that someone at school was bullying her, she stormed into the school, demanding a class transfer.
By the time she sobered up, she realized she couldn’t get rid of this sticky rice cake, so she kept her, even attending parent-teacher meetings twice a year.
Well, not anymore, now that she was busy dating her “aloof senior.”
Tao Ning entered the classroom, and seeing Song Siran’s expression, she knew Song Yanshu, the fair-weather friend, had forgotten to tell her about the replacement.
Due to her past, Song Siran was sensitive and introverted, having met Tao Ning a few times, dragged to parties by Song Yanshu for moral support, always quietly sitting in a corner, like a painting.
Noticing the sudden silence in the classroom, she heard her classmate whisper, “Who is she looking for?”
Song Siran turned around, her eyes widening in shock as she recognized the person, standing up abruptly.
The sudden movement knocked over her chair, a loud bang echoing in the classroom.
But no one looked at her, their gazes fixed on the approaching figure, a faint fragrance accompanying her.
Her classmate, startled, asked, “Si Ran, do you know her?”
