Chapter 169: I’ll Support You By Handing Out Flyers Part 14(1)
Time, like flowing water, wouldn’t stop for anyone.
After leaving Hengshan Villa that day, Tao Ning hadn’t seen Fu Guanyue again.
But their online conversations continued.
Having received a proper education, Fu Guanyue quickly learned how to use a smartphone, but her personality remained unchanged, her replies always direct and to the point, serious and formal like a scholar.
Song Yanshu, her infatuation with her junior still intense, finally had some free time and invited Tao Ning to dinner, promising to treat her.
True to her generous nature, she booked a private room at a high-end restaurant, specifically for Tao Ning.
Listing the dishes she had ordered, Song Yanshu smiled smugly: “Pretty generous, right?”
Tao Ning, waiting for the food, her phone still in her hand, nodded: “Mm-hmm, very generous.”
Song Yanshu, satisfied, sat down beside Tao Ning and began describing the dishes and the restaurant’s ambiance in detail, like a peacock displaying its feathers.
Tao Ning’s responses were limited to: “Mm-hmm, very nice, I wish you happiness.”
Her phone buzzed, a new message.
Fu Guanyue: [I might be busy today, replies will be slow, what are you doing?]
It was a weekend, and Fu Guanyue assumed Tao Ning would be at home.
What am I doing?
Tao Ning tapped her fingers on the table, glancing at the flamboyant Song Yanshu, chattering non-stop, and replied.
Tao Ning: [Watching a lecture in the front row.]
Fu Guanyue: [A lecture? It’s dinner time, aren’t you going to eat?]
Tao Ning: [Depends on when the lecturer finishes her presentation.]
Tao Ning: [SadBirb.jpg]
Fu Guanyue thought of the meetings at Wutong Pavilion, a group of people arguing for hours before reaching a decision.
Tedious, exhausting, and incredibly boring.
Even the seemingly aloof and composed cultivators would argue heatedly, sometimes even resorting to splashing each other with water, using magic to dry themselves before leaving.
Fu Guanyue replied: [I also dislike meetings, they’re too noisy.]
Tao Ning smiled, sipping her water as a reply with a moon emoji popped up.
Song Yanshu, tired of talking, noticed Tao Ning was still glued to her phone, typing non-stop.
She said, dissatisfied, “Why are you ignoring me?”
Tao Ning glanced at her, finally putting down her phone, and carefully examined the private room, even the small bridge and flowing water outside the window, her expression both serious and amused, making Song Yanshu uneasy.
As expected, Tao Ning turned to her, smiling: “Such an elegant and secluded place, reservations only, are you planning to bring your junior here for a date?”
Song Yanshu: “…”
She froze, then after a moment, feigned shyness: “You saw through me, what do you think of this place?”
She leaned her head against Tao Ning’s shoulder.
Tao Ning extended two fingers, preventing her from getting too close: “Don’t even try, you’re just using me as a guinea pig, I thought you were actually treating me to dinner.”
Song Yanshu straightened up, defending herself: “You’re one to talk, you’ve been glued to your phone, ignoring me, let me see which little vixen has captivated you… Why is her profile picture a mountain?”
Tao Ning flipped her phone over, hiding the screen: “Personal preference, and the scenery is quite nice.”
Throughout her dating history, Tao Ning had always preferred outgoing and affectionate partners, this one seemed completely different.
“…” Song Yanshu’s expression turned serious. “Ning, tell me honestly, how old is she?”
Although Tao Ning’s parents had divorced when she was young, leaving her feeling unloved, and she had done many foolish things to get their attention,
Her inability to commit always resulted in short-lived relationships, as someone who had never been loved didn’t know how to love.
Song Yanshu leaned closer, her tone cautious: “There’s nothing wrong with liking older women, but don’t go too far, it won’t end well.”
Unaware that her words had offended two people, she thought Tao Ning wasn’t the type for long-term relationships, and age gaps often led to misunderstandings.
Tao Ning slowly turned, her smile fading: “You’re thinking too much, she’s just a young woman who likes scenery, calligraphy, and painting, I’m not preying on young girls.”
Song Yanshu was relieved: “Then who is she? Do I know her?”
Tao Ning: “You could say you do.”
This ambiguous answer only deepened Song Yanshu’s confusion, she had grown up in Bin City, how could there be someone she “sort of” knew?
Either you knew them, or you didn’t, but Tao Ning refused to elaborate, making her guess.
Soon, the waiter arrived with their food, and Song Yanshu was still pondering the mystery woman’s identity.
Tao Ning took a photo of the dishes from a flattering angle and sent it to Fu Guanyue, hoping to dispel her image of poverty.
Seeing Song Yanshu still deep in thought, Tao Ning was amused by her curiosity, she probably wouldn’t figure it out, her mind filled with her junior.
Tao Ning said, “You’ve already forgotten, the woman with the cinnabar mole at your store the other day, Miss Fu.”
“Oh, I almost forgot about her,” Song Yanshu said, suddenly realizing, and happily ate two bowls of rice.
Fu Guanyue’s phone vibrated, and she looked down, placing it on her lap.
It was a photo from Tao Ning, the dishes looking delicious and tempting.
A flicker of envy crossed her usually cool and composed face, she was also hungry, but only the scent of tea came from across the table.
The person making the tea, assuming Fu Guanyue was impatient, quickly poured a cup and placed it before her, his fifty-year-old face with an overly polite smile.
This made his assistant, Fu Luo, curious. Mr. Wu was a prominent figure in Bin City, why was he so respectful, even subservient, towards this young woman?
Mr. Wu gestured with his hand, which sported a Rolex: “Master Fu, please have some tea, my son was ignorant and disrespectful before, calling the police… It was a misunderstanding, but please rest assured, I’ve already punished him, and I’ll have him come and apologize as soon as he’s discharged from the hospital.”
Fu Guanyue took the teacup and sipped it: “There’s no need, he should focus on recovering, it’s too much trouble for him to come here.”
Mr. Wu said earnestly, “Then allow me to apologize on his behalf, please forgive him! Honestly, Master Fu, I’m desperate, the damage to my company is one thing, but my mother, always healthy, her medical report from earlier this year was perfect, suddenly fell ill a few days ago, bedridden ever since.”
“My wife and daughter were in a car accident on their way to school, fortunately, they’re both fine, and I’ve sent them to my mother-in-law’s, I don’t want them to come back yet. And my son, walking in the house, suddenly fell down the stairs and broke his leg, the surveillance footage showing a figure at the top of the stairs, pushing him.”
Fu Luo was curious, wondering if his son had been beaten up by his father after being admitted to the hospital for the fall.
In short, his entire family was in disarray, and Mr. Wu pointed at the bandage on his head: “I was inspecting a construction site when a brick fell and hit me, even cracking my helmet. I checked the surveillance footage later, and there was no one there, just a hand suddenly appearing, holding half a brick, and throwing it at me.”
The more he spoke, the paler his assistant’s face became, recalling the incident with a shudder.
Fu Guanyue listened patiently, then nodded: “I understand.”
This matter had seemingly been resolved, but the Wu family had contacted her again recently, repeatedly and sincerely requesting her help, even going through Fu Zhaozhao’s parents.
If it weren’t for the Wu family’s charitable deeds and genuine philanthropy, Fu Guanyue wouldn’t have reconsidered.
Her initial warning had been out of kindness, seeing the auspicious aura around their son, but having been out of touch with society for too long, encountering a skeptical young man, she had been mistaken for a fraud.
Mr. Wu’s face was full of eagerness: “Then… Master Fu, when are you available to visit my house and see what the problem is?”
Silence. Mr. Wu, his assistant, and Fu Luo looked at Fu Guanyue.
She was taking a photo with her phone.
Fu Guanyue quickly put away her phone, pretending nothing had happened: “There’s no time like the present, how about today?”
After waiting for a while, still not receiving a reply, Tao Ning put down her chopsticks and glanced at her phone.
Just then, a new message popped up, from Fu Guanyue.
Before even reading it, a faint smile appeared on Tao Ning’s face as she opened the message.
Fu Guanyue hadn’t replied with words, but with a photo.
A cup of tea, Fu Guanyue’s hand visible in the frame, and a blurry figure in the background.
Tao Ning’s smile widened, thinking Fu Guanyue probably hadn’t done this before, the photo a bit blurry.
She chuckled, and Song Yanshu, feeling inexplicably annoyed, suddenly found the food less appealing.
Jealous, although she didn’t know what the message was, she was still jealous.
Her junior was on another field trip, hadn’t replied since yesterday, claiming to be busy with her graduation project.
Just as she was about to say something, Tao Ning’s phone vibrated, and her smile vanished.
This made Song Yanshu curious: “What’s wrong?”
Tao Ning turned off the screen, flipping her phone over, and picked up her chopsticks again: “My father.”
Song Yanshu: “Your father? Why is he calling you? Doesn’t he want you to stay away?”
Tao Ning continued eating slowly: “Who knows.”
Song Yanshu observed her for a moment, relieved that Tao Ning didn’t seem upset, the Tao family wasn’t a good place.
They had kicked her out after their remarriage, claiming they had bought a new apartment for her, closer to school, a quieter place to study.
Actually, they just wanted her gone, finding her presence inconvenient, afraid she would cause trouble, clearing the way for their new marriage.
