Chapter 183: I’ll Support You By Handing Out Flyers Part 28
Fu Guanyue wouldn’t agree to such a thing, however, and after a passionate kiss, she left, rubbing her cheek.
She pressed her slightly swollen lips together and said seriously, “Deep Sky Abyss is dangerous right now, stay home and wait for me.”
With that, she turned to leave.
Tao Ning, her clothes disheveled, lay on the bed, one hand propping up her head, sighing dramatically: “Tricked again, how tragic.”
The slender figure leaving paused, then quickened her pace, afraid Tao Ning would get up and follow.
But that was unlikely, right?
She had deliberately unbuttoned Tao Ning’s clothes, she wouldn’t have time to change.
As she walked, the cool night breeze soothed her flushed cheeks, her racing heart calming down.
No one followed, and Fu Guanyue breathed a sigh of relief.
Tao Ning had never been to Deep Sky Abyss, she didn’t know how dangerous it was, and for her safety, Fu Guanyue couldn’t agree.
Having made up her mind, she returned to her room, planning to cultivate all night, she might be leaving for Minzhou tomorrow.
She had left, her resolve firm, refusing Tao Ning’s request.
520, finally freed from the thick mosaic, saw Tao Ning sitting cross-legged on the bed, her chin resting on her hand, deep in thought.
Seeing this, it knew Tao Ning hadn’t succeeded, otherwise, she wouldn’t be sitting here alone, but cuddling with Fu Guanyue, whispering sweet nothings.
520, feeling confident in its extensive drama-watching experience, asked, [Did the seduction fail?]
Tao Ning, a smudge of lipstick on her lips, a shade she didn’t normally use, nodded: “It failed.”
520: [Then what? Seduction didn’t work, are you going to sneak in?]
It didn’t know why the host wanted to go, but as a mission participant, wasn’t causing trouble their specialty?
Tao Ning shook her head: “No need for such drastic measures, she’ll agree eventually.”
520, its vast knowledge useless: [???]
That night, Fu Guanyue meditated, her cultivation nearing its end, the circulating spiritual energy returning to her body.
She felt a strange presence and opened her eyes, seeing a figure on her balcony, one leg already inside, clearly climbing in through the window.
It was Tao Ning, unable to sleep, climbing into her wife’s room.
“…”
They stared at each other in silence.
Tao Ning, caught red-handed, wasn’t flustered, calmly stepping inside, her casual demeanor almost making Fu Guanyue question who was the intruder.
Tao Ning smiled: “Good evening, still awake? Want some late-night snacks?”
Fu Guanyue: “…”
She looked at Tao Ning, then around the room, then asked, incredulous, “How did you get in?”
Tao Ning looked innocent: “I walked in.”
Fu Guanyue, still incredulous: “Walked in? Just like that?”
Tao Ning: “The main gate was unlocked, but your bedroom door was locked, so I walked around and found your window unlocked, so I came in.”
She even looked slightly aggrieved, then asked, “I brought snacks, do you want some?”
Fu Guanyue, her mouth faster than her brain: “Yes.”
Still feeling something was off, she got out of bed, checking the surrounding area, but everything seemed normal, no signs of forced entry.
She had activated a protective barrier before meditating, which would alert her to any intruders.
But now, Tao Ning was already inside, and she hadn’t noticed until now, if she hadn’t finished cultivating, she might not have even sensed her presence.
Had her skills deteriorated? Not even noticing such a large breach in her barrier?
Fu Guanyue, always a top student, felt a headache coming on, deciding to add two more hours to her cultivation schedule, no more sleeping.
Tao Ning, unaware of the shock she had caused, retrieved the insulated bag she had left outside the window.
Carrying it while climbing wasn’t convenient.
Tao Ning: “It’s not good to eat in the bedroom, do you have a table outside?”
Fu Guanyue pointed: “There’s one in the living room.”
Tao Ning: “Then let’s eat there, I just made it, it’s still warm.”
She walked out, Fu Guanyue following.
Fu Guanyue watched, bewildered, as Tao Ning pulled out the insulated bag and opened it, the aroma of food filling the air.
She hadn’t been hungry before, but now she was.
Tao Ning placed the bowls and chopsticks on the table, then, seeing Fu Guanyue still standing there, led her to a chair, her hand gently pressing on her shoulder.
Fu Guanyue sat down, the aroma of wontons wafting from the container: “This isn’t from your family’s kitchen, you made this yourself?”
“You guessed right,” Tao Ning said, dividing the wontons into two bowls. “I was planning to sleep, but I couldn’t, so I went to the kitchen and made some wontons, thinking it would be boring to eat alone.”
She placed a bowl before Fu Guanyue, sprinkling some chopped scallions on top, making it even more tempting.
Fu Guanyue knew better than to ask why she couldn’t sleep, lowering her eyes and placing her hands on her lap, looking obedient.
Tao Ning, seeing her reaction, smiled faintly, knowing what she was thinking.
She also sat down: “Alright, try it, I don’t make wontons often, I hope you like the filling.”
Fu Guanyue took a spoonful, her eyes lighting up after the first bite: “Delicious, it’s very good.”
Tao Ning’s eyes crinkled slightly, her chin lifting a bit: “Have some more.”
Fu Guanyue, her resolve weakened by the delicious food and the beautiful woman before her, ate quite a bit, even finishing most of the broth.
“Since you’ve eaten my food, you have to agree to a small request,” Tao Ning said softly.
Fu Guanyue had a bad feeling.
As expected, Tao Ning continued, “Take me with you to Minzhou tomorrow.”
Fu Guanyue was about to speak when Tao Ning, anticipating her refusal, interrupted, “If you don’t, I’ll go by myself, it’s not like they can seal off the entire province, I’ll find a way in.”
“And my yin-yang eyes can see spiritual auras, so if I don’t have a guide, I’ll just follow the darkest path.”
Fu Guanyue: “…”
Tao Ning had covered all the bases, and if she really did that, it wouldn’t be difficult for her to reach Minzhou.
Although tempted by the delicious food and swayed by Tao Ning’s persistence, Fu Guanyue couldn’t maintain her resolve.
She finally gave in: “Fine, you can come with me, but you have to promise to stay in a safe place and wait for me.”
Tao Ning, satisfied with this answer, would agree to anything tonight.
After cleaning up, she picked up the insulated bag and, momentarily forgetting about the door, walked towards the window.
Fu Guanyue grabbed her sleeve: “Wait.”
Tao Ning turned around, seeing Fu Guanyue’s exasperated expression, and quickly said, “Oh, right, the door, I’ll use the door.”
“…” Fu Guanyue, even more exasperated: “No, I mean, don’t leave, stay.”
The next afternoon, Tao Ning, now officially Fu Guanyue’s “assistant,” boarded the plane to Minzhou.
Old Madam Fu saw them, but after a moment of silence, she didn’t say anything.
With her silence, the other elders also pretended not to notice, and Tao Ning successfully blended in.
The real assistants, Fu Xi and Fu Luo: “…”
In their years of serving Eldest Sister, they now had a new colleague, who was also her girlfriend.
Fu Luo typed furiously on her phone: “I used to think such plots were ridiculous in novels, now I realize I’m the ridiculous one, fiction truly imitates reality.”
Fu Xi, receiving the message, touched her sister’s forehead: “You don’t have a fever.”
Fu Luo: “…”
The plane landed, and they transferred to another vehicle, the weather in Minzhou less pleasant than elsewhere, a faint sunlight that offered no warmth.
Even the colors seemed faded, as if behind a veil.
As they drove, Tao Ning looked out the window, the oppressive atmosphere intensifying as they approached Deep Sky Abyss, dark clouds gathering overhead, threatening rain.
The radio warned of an approaching typhoon, advising people to stay indoors.
The driver turned off the radio and continued driving.
Fu Guanyue held Tao Ning’s hand, ready to have her sent back if she wanted to leave.
But Tao Ning didn’t, instead holding her hand tighter, playing with her fingers.
Fu Guanyue: “…”
Many cultivators were heading towards Minzhou, and by the time the Fu clan, traveling from afar, arrived at Deep Sky Abyss, many had already gathered.
From different sects and families, some dressed in traditional robes, their long hair flowing, a picture of otherworldly elegance, while others, more practical, prioritized warmth over appearance, wearing brightly colored hiking gear, easily spotted in the mountains.
The scene was a mix of ancient and modern, a clash of styles, the mountainside filled with people.
The brightly colored hiking gear did lessen the ominous atmosphere, making it seem like a company retreat.
A voice came from the distance, a cultivator in a red jacket: “That river looks like a good fishing spot, do you have any rods?”
A Yu clan member, responsible for welcoming the guests: “…Uh, maybe.”
As they got out of the car, they were greeted by members of the Yu clan, the hosts, Yu Tong, their most promising disciple, among them.
But he was naturally quiet and reserved, the elders beside him doing most of the talking.
This was why the Yu clan hadn’t officially named him their successor yet, his talent undeniable, but his personality too introverted, always needing others to initiate conversations, often retreating into seclusion.
Old Madam Fu and the elders led the way, and Fu Guanyue, taking advantage of the opportunity, whispered to Tao Ning, walking beside her.
Fu Guanyue: “Stay with me, I’ll introduce you to everyone.”
With so many people present, and their different personalities, it was better to be prepared, after all, Tao Ning was now her assistant.
Tao Ning agreed, and Fu Guanyue began the introductions: “That’s the Dan clan’s young master over there, in neon green, he’s an alchemist, his name is Dan Yu, and the one in blue robes is from the Zhen clan, he has a twin sister, who’s even more talented, her name is Zhen Xuelan.”
“The Zhen clan specializes in formations, they’ll be leading the repairs, the other clans will assist.”
“And the one in black, with the glasses, is from the Yu clan, his name is Yu Tong. You can guess the others’ family names from their clothes.”
After the introductions, Fu Guanyue looked around, puzzled: “I don’t see Zhen Xuelan, she should be here.”
They were all here to repair the formation, the mountainside filled with people, but Fu Guanyue only knew a few of them, the rest not worth mentioning.
Tao Ning’s ears twitched, and she turned around, and a young woman in an elaborate Lolita dress and a blonde wig, standing behind them, paused.
Noticing Tao Ning’s movement, Fu Guanyue also turned around, initially startled by the hair color, then recognizing the familiar features.
Fu Guanyue: “I almost didn’t recognize you, I was just looking for you. This is Zhen Xuelan.”
The last sentence was for Tao Ning.
Zhen Xuelan, her makeup impeccable, a small parasol in her hand, said helplessly, “I was at a comic convention, about to get autographs, when I received a call, I didn’t even have time to change.”
Tao Ning, standing beside Fu Guanyue, smiled, her expression now gentle and warm.
Zhen Xuelan, quite close to Fu Guanyue, had actually wanted to scare her, but she had been startled instead by the person beside Fu Guanyue.
That gaze, like a cold blade, made her heart skip a beat.
Then, in a blink, it softened, and she wondered if she had imagined it.
Fu Guanyue, not understanding the first part, but knowing Zhen Xuelan’s fondness for unusual things, complimented her, “Your dress is very pretty.”
Zhen Xuelan’s eyes lit up: “I love it too, how about you and I…”
Fu Guanyue, knowing what she was about to say, quickly interrupted, “No, no, I’m not falling into that rabbit hole with you again.”
Zhen Xuelan, expecting this, corrected her, “It’s not a rabbit hole, it’s a fandom.”
But there was something she was curious about: “I haven’t seen this young lady before, your new assistant? Where are Fu Xi and Fu Luo?”
Fu Guanyue didn’t hide anything: “This is my assistant, also my girlfriend, Tao Ning.”
Zhen Xuelan: “Oh, girlfriend…”
Then, after a moment, she exclaimed, “Girlfriend?!”
The seemingly unapproachable Fu Guanyue, had she actually found someone?
As night fell, it wasn’t time to go up the mountain yet, and the cultivators were arranged in a residence at the foot of the mountain.
Zhen Xuelan, finally having time to change, was still stunned.
The Zhen and Fu clans were close, their younger generations often visiting each other to learn, and Zhen Xuelan had practically grown up with Fu Guanyue, watching her transform from a chatty little girl to her current self.
And she herself had also changed, from a mischievous child who always dragged Fu Guanyue into trouble to a refined Lolita enthusiast, life’s transformations truly unpredictable.
Having witnessed Fu Guanyue reject countless romantic advances since adolescence, Zhen Xuelan had firmly believed she would follow in the footsteps of previous clan heads, powerful and alone.
But unexpectedly, the seemingly unromantic Fu Guanyue was now holding someone’s hand, introducing her as her girlfriend.
Mistaking Tao Ning for a new Fu clan disciple, Zhen Xuelan’s attitude changed, and she said solemnly, “Hello, I’m Guanyue’s friend, I’m so surprised to finally meet her girlfriend, please forgive my rudeness.”
Tao Ning smiled and shook her hand: “Hello, it’s alright, I’m used to it.”
Fu Guanyue, seeing Zhen Xuelan’s exaggerated reaction, as if witnessing a rare species: “…”
Enough, you two.
