094 She’s Here, She’s Here
For his first worldline correction mission, Wang Heng pulled an all-nighter.
The first half of the night was spent reporting Liu Rong; the second half was spent giving a statement at the police station. After a series of tasks were completed, he took a taxi to the nearest subway station and then took almost the earliest subway back to school.
Entering the dormitory building and climbing the stairs, Wang Heng happened to run into his three roommates going downstairs for breakfast.
“Yo, Teacher Wang didn’t come back all night!” Fu Hanwen winked. “You must have been playing with a girl all night, right?”
“Actually, it was… never mind.”
Wang Heng wanted to say ‘I spent the night with an old man,’ but on second thought, that sounded even worse.
Tang Hexing said wistfully, “Bring the girl over for us to see next time. A girl who can keep the experienced Teacher Wang out all night must be amazing.”
“If there really was a girl, I would definitely bring her back for you to see, but last night I just went to an internet cafe to play games all night…”
Trying hard to use his increasingly drowsy brain, Wang Heng finally found an excuse he thought was reasonable.
Fu Hanwen asked curiously, “Aren’t you uninterested in games? So you play too? Then let’s party up in the future?”
Wang Heng: “I’m very interested in games, just not really into partying up. I like single-player games.”
Fu Hanwen: “What single-player game is so fun that it kept you up all night?”
Wang Heng yawned and said, “Civilization. It felt like I just played a few turns, and before I knew it, it was dawn.”
Wang Ke chimed in, “I’ve played that game too. It really takes up time… But Teacher Wang, there’s a required class later. Aren’t you going?”
“You guys go. I’m going back to catch up on sleep. Do you know how sleepy I am right now?”
Just like that, Wang Heng waved goodbye to his roommates and returned to the dormitory alone.
Then, he took off his jacket and trousers, climbed into the upper bunk, and buried his head in the pillow.
Before long, he fell asleep.
In his drowsiness, Wang Heng heard the text message notification sound on his phone, but he didn’t want to look at the screen anymore. Thus, he naturally failed to see the text message from Ye Xun immediately.

It was another advanced math class. Fu Hanwen looked at the students around him who were burying their heads in taking notes, and felt that he was probably hopeless.
It had only been a little over a month since school started, yet the professor teaching advanced math had already pushed the teaching progress to nearly half. Fu Hanwen found that apart from “class dismissed,” “roll call,” and “homework assignment,” he basically couldn’t understand a single word the professor said on the podium now.
Turning to look at his roommates beside him, he saw Wang Ke still listening attentively, nodding from time to time. Tang Hexing was holding Wang Heng’s notebook, listening to the class while comparing it with what Wang Heng had written, also looking thoughtful… Fu Hanwen couldn’t help but feel a little broken.
Could it be that I’m the only slacker? That’s impossible, right?
After a long while, when the bell for the end of class finally rang, Fu Hanwen grabbed his two roommates beside him and asked, “Can you guys still keep up?”
Wang Ke nodded. “It’s okay. He speaks a bit fast, but it’s not hard.”
Tang Hexing also nodded. “Teacher Wang’s notes are very clear. Even if the teacher didn’t explain something clearly, I can understand it by looking at what he wrote.”
Hearing his roommates say this, Fu Hanwen couldn’t help but pull his hair. He couldn’t understand the professor’s lecture now, and he couldn’t understand Wang Heng’s notebook either. Thinking carefully, probably only the Summoner’s Rift could soothe his anxious mood…
Just then, Class President Sun Xingsi came over and asked, “Is Teacher Wang not here?”
Tang Hexing: “He’s sleeping in the dorm. Why, looking for him?”
“It’s not me looking for him. There’s a girl at the door who said she asked about our class’s Wang Heng at the administrative center and wants to find him.” Class President Sun pointed to the classroom door, his tone quite meaningful.
“A girl?” The three roommates instantly perked up.
Tang Hexing asked the question everyone cared about most: “Is the girl pretty?”
Class President Sun could no longer suppress the smile on his face. “Come out with me and see, won’t you know?”
Fu Hanwen: “Then what are we waiting for!”
The three of them immediately stood up and followed Class President Sun out of the classroom.
Sure enough, it was a very pretty girl. She didn’t look like a university student, more like a middle school student, but the fiery orange ponytail behind her head seemed impossible to exist on a middle school campus. And her shirt, knee-length skirt, and black knee-high socks made her look more like a girl who had walked out of a manga…
The three boys were instantly stunned.
In the end, Class President Sun was the calmest. He said politely, “Student Wang Heng didn’t come to this class. He’s in the dorm. He might be busy with something. But his skipping class is different from others. He’s the kind of person who doesn’t need to listen to lectures.”
Ye Xun blinked. “Doesn’t need to listen to lectures?”
Facing this girl, Sun Xingsi couldn’t help but think of the mixer a few days ago.
No wonder Wang Heng wasn’t interested in any of the girls at the mixer; no wonder he was in a hurry to leave as soon as he arrived at the KTV—it turns out he really knows such a pretty girl!
Tsk, tsk, she chased him all the way to the school to find him, and not only found out his class but even his class schedule. How much time and effort did that take? Such persistence just to see him once. This charm, these methods, are simply breathtaking.
So, since Teacher Wang is so amazing, as a responsible class officer, I can’t be unhelpful to my classmate, right?
So Sun Xingsi continued to assist: “Didn’t you know? Student Wang Heng was scouted by Penguin Company and goes there on weekends to work part-time writing code. Although he is a freshman, his coding skills are at the teacher level, so we usually call him Teacher Wang. He’s very, very amazing…”
Sun Xingsi didn’t know much about Wang Heng’s coding skills. After all, he hadn’t been in school for long and hadn’t even mastered the syntax of C language, so he really couldn’t evaluate a programmer’s level. But it didn’t matter. The girl in front of him definitely knew even less about code, so bragging for his classmate was naturally harmless.
After all, Sun Xingsi was a responsible class officer and had the awareness to support his classmates at critical moments.
Hearing him say this, Ye Xun couldn’t help but be curious. “So he’s also a genius?”
Sun Xingsi: “Of course. Didn’t he tell you?”
Ye Xun: “I haven’t met Student Wang Heng yet. How could I know?”
Sun Xingsi frowned, realizing that things seemed different from what he had just imagined.
Haven’t met? What is this girl here for?
The next moment, Fu Hanwen voiced the question stuck on Sun Xingsi’s lips: “You haven’t met him, then why are you looking for him?”
Ye Xun cleared her throat and said solemnly, “He did our family a huge favor, so I came specifically…”
Before the girl could finish, the phrase appeared in the minds of the four boys—Sun Xingsi, Fu Hanwen, Tang Hexing, and Wang Ke—simultaneously.
Great kindness cannot be thanked with words, so one should repay it with… what was it again?
