4:
When the phone on the bedside table rang, Luo Yueqing was just walking out of the bathroom. She glanced at the warm sunlight outside the window. It was exactly three in the afternoon.
“Doctor Luo, the car to pick you up has arrived downstairs.”
“Please come down immediately and head to the First Imperial Hospital.”
The voice on the phone was urgent and brooked no refusal. The call was hung up without any explanation, as if something extremely tense had happened, making them forget even the butler’s customary etiquette.
Luo Yueqing, knowing what was coming, wasn’t nervous. She just turned to look at the round mirror on the table. From this angle, she could only see her slightly upturned red lips, moist and glossy. The fine, unconcealed lines were a flirtatious charm unique to a mature woman.
A sudden gust of wind blew past, carrying the faint, rose-scented aroma of red wine further into the distance.
It was undeniable that the world was divided into different classes, a fact that even life-saving hospitals could not escape.
The poor squeezed into cramped wards with three beds, while the powerful lay in quiet suites on mattresses so soft you could sink into them.
Luo Yueqing sat by the hospital bed, musing to herself as she turned to look at the pale-faced woman.
This Omega, who could stir up storms in the business world with a wave of her hand and who had coldly threatened her just yesterday, was now as fragile as a piece of breakable porcelain. She was half-lying on the bed, her swan-like neck slightly raised, revealing the faint blue veins beneath the delicate skin. It was like a painter’s light brushstroke, as if the slightest pressure could shatter it.
Her gaze was undisguised, making Xi Zhoulu unable to resist opening her eyes to shoot her a warning glance.
Luo Yueqing didn’t feel awkward or look away. She shifted her gaze down to the loose-fitting hospital gown. Perhaps because nobility was etched into this woman’s very bones, even a plain piece of clothing looked like an expensive, custom-made garment on her.
Such a shameless person, still not taking the hint to look away after being warned.
“Doctor Luo,” Xi Zhoulu finally couldn’t help but speak, her hand under the pillow clenching into a fist.
Hearing her name, Luo Yueqing instinctively looked up. “Hm?”
Her eyes were questioning, her expression bewildered, as if she wasn’t the rogue from a moment ago.
She even asked with perfect composure, “Is Miss Xi ready?”
“Shall we begin?”
Xi Zhoulu’s breath hitched, and the chaotic spiritual power that had caused her to collapse and be hospitalized sent a sharp pang through her. A flicker of regret actually surfaced.
This emotion was extremely rare for Xi Zhoulu. After all, she had been taught since childhood that once a move is made, there is no regret. Even if she made a mistake, she was not allowed to doubt herself.
Because she was the heir to the Xi family, one of the leaders of this planet. Her decisions would affect countless people, so she always acted with caution and seriousness, thinking through every detail several times and running simulations in her mind to ensure as few mistakes as possible.
Yet, she couldn’t help but doubt her judgment now. Luo Yueqing wasn’t the only Spiritual Guidance Counselor. If she wasn’t suitable, she could find someone else. There was no need to get so entangled.
But…
The person in front of her was currently her best option.
“Miss Xi?” Seeing no response for a long time, Luo Yueqing couldn’t help but ask.
At the sound of her voice, Xi Zhoulu looked up with a frown. Perhaps her mind was in a momentary state of confusion, because she came up with a tit-for-tat method of retaliation. She mimicked the other woman, staring straight at her face.
But how could a flippant and shameless Alpha be so easily defeated?
Not only did she not stop her, but she even leaned forward slightly, raising a hand to tuck a stray strand of hair behind her ear, as if to let Xi Zhoulu get a better look.
The distance between them shortened, and a faint, elusive fragrance wrapped around her nose.
Xi Zhoulu wanted to retreat, but with her back against the headboard, there was nowhere to go. She could only let the other woman’s reflection be imprinted on the bottom of her grayish-blue eyes.
Luo Yueqing had a deeply striking, gorgeous, and seductive appearance. Like her pheromones, she was an Ecuadorian wine-red rose blooming with abandon and aggression. She made no effort to conceal it; her beauty was direct and flamboyant, as if to tell you frankly, I am a stunningly beautiful Alpha.
The other woman clearly hadn’t moved, yet Xi Zhoulu felt the distance closing, as if a falling rose petal was about to land on her lips.
She immediately turned her head, trying to dodge.
But Luo Yueqing reached out and grabbed her quilt, still maintaining that pretense of innocence and propriety. She continued with concern, “If Miss Xi isn’t ready yet, we can take a short break, chat for a bit, or…”
Her words suddenly trailed off. It was unclear whether it was intentional or a slip of the tongue, but she was repeating her impertinent words from yesterday.
Xi Zhoulu pressed her lips together. The memory flooded back, and a trace of coldness flashed in her eyes. Just as she was about to say something, a nurse knocked and entered, interrupting her thoughts.
Looking up, she saw that the hanging glass bottle had only a little bit of fluid left, about to drip empty.
The two of them tacitly pulled back to their original distance.
At this moment, Luo Yueqing actually became considerate, even proactively moving her stool back to make way for the nurse.
Xi Zhoulu remained silent, only giving a couple of brief responses when the nurse spoke.
The air in the room seemed to freeze for a moment, then was discarded along with the empty glass bottle. The pale, slender hand, contrasted by the purplish bruise, looked even more fragile, as if it would break with the slightest pressure.
The nurse must have thought so too, because she pressed the cotton ball down a little more gently and advised in a softer voice, “The doctor just instructed that he hopes you will deal with your spiritual power issue as soon as possible.”
“This time, you fainted just from an emotional fluctuation. If it gets worse later, it might…”
She was cut off before she could finish. Xi Zhoulu waved her hand dismissively to stop her, saying only, “I know.”
The nurse didn’t dare say anything more. Without even a sideways glance, she finished her task and left.
The sound of the door closing was accompanied by Luo Yueqing moving closer to the bed again.
“The doctor said you need to receive treatment as soon as possible,” she said, emphasizing her words and repeating what was said earlier. Her smiling peach-blossom eyes held an unconcealed cunning.
She was like a fox, telling Xi Zhoulu that she had no choice but to fall into her hands.
Xi Zhoulu subconsciously furrowed her brow, and the hospital gown hanging on her thin frame shifted.
“There’s no need to rush,” she said, still not agreeing despite the circumstances.
“Alright…” Luo Yueqing nodded thoughtfully, like a hunter feigning to give up the chase.
Her tone shifted. “Are you cold?” she asked.
It was only autumn, and the room was kept at a comfortable temperature set by a specialist. How could she be cold?
Xi Zhoulu didn’t react for a moment. In the next second, she saw the other woman take her hand.
Warmth spread from her fingertips, and a trace of heat returned to the palm that had been stiff from the cold IV fluid.
The warmth was inconspicuous, like the flap of a butterfly’s wings, a breeze so slight that even the butterfly itself couldn’t feel it. Yet, it left an intensely tingling sensation in the Omega’s palm.
“Are you cold?”
“Is this better?” Luo Yueqing was still asking, her fingers curling slightly to completely enclose the other’s hand.
Perhaps it was because the effects of the IV fluid were wearing off. Her body temperature gradually returned, and her numbed senses slowly recovered. The other woman’s fingerprints were etched into her skin, and a subtle electric current traveled up her wrist, engulfing her entire body.
For a moment, Xi Zhoulu didn’t react. Not out of anger or anything else, but out of confusion. After all, the people she usually interacted with were shrewd individuals who either feared her family background or tried every means to get close to her.
She had experienced bold moves like Luo Yueqing’s before. Those self-righteous Alphas could always come up with bizarre tricks in various situations.
For example, feigning a fall, intentionally releasing pheromones, or even stripping naked and climbing into her bed.
So, Xi Zhoulu was used to this nonsense and was very adept at handling it. The light punishment was bankruptcy and a warning; the heavy one…
Although her verbal threats were cold, Luo Yueqing had indeed received the lightest punishment among all of them. After all, she was useful. So, Xi Zhoulu had only given her a cold warning and restrained her with a contract. She had thought that would solve the problem completely, but she hadn’t expected Luo Yueqing to double down and grab her hand.
She frowned, unable to understand why someone would refuse to learn their lesson when she had made herself so clear last time.
It was like a genius who had grown up among intelligent people suddenly being thrown in front of a fool and discovering that the other person couldn’t even calculate one plus one.
This troubled Xi Zhoulu. She tried to pull her hand away but was held even tighter.
“Doctor Luo,” she chided coldly. Her grayish-blue eyes always seemed indifferent and distant, like beautiful but emotionless glass beads. Even when reflecting someone’s image, it only landed on the surface.
“If you do something like this again, I think yesterday’s contract will have to be voided.”
She forcefully pulled her hand free. In the struggle, the small wound on the back of her hand beaded with blood.
Xi Zhoulu, however, acted as if she felt no pain. “S-class Spiritual Guidance Counselors are rare, but you’re not the only one.”
She lifted her gaze to look at the other woman, her tone flat. Even though her current decision would result in a hefty breach of contract fee, she remained unconcerned. “I can find someone else.”
