Chapter 22: Part 4

As a dutiful bodyguard, Tong Lin ultimately stood guard right outside Lin Zixi’s room door without budging an inch. The perceptive Lin Zixi seemed to understand Tong Lin’s concerns and left the door ajar before leading Ye Can inside.

She took Ye Can to the bathroom, had her splash water on her face first, then poured some makeup remover onto a cotton pad and handed it over for Ye Can to wipe off the gunk.

Ye Can didn’t take it. Instead, she lifted her head and presented her face, demanding, “Wash it clean for me.”

What a spoiled young miss act.

Helpless, Lin Zixi sighed and resignedly dabbed the cotton pad across Ye Can’s face. After three or four passes, she finally wiped away the red makeup caked on Ye Can’s skin.

Once the excess pigment was gone, a flawless face with delicate, petal-soft skin appeared before Lin Zixi’s eyes. She held the cotton pad, gazing at Ye Can’s long lashes trembling slightly as her eyes closed, and silently swallowed her admiration for the girl’s beauty before tossing the pad into the trash: “All done, Ye Can. Now wash your face with some cleanser.”

Ye Can found it troublesome and wasn’t thrilled: “Can’t you keep serving me?”

This girl knows exactly what ‘serving’ means, Lin Zixi thought, feeling exhausted. But when she looked at that pretty face, the refusal stuck in her throat.

She had no choice but to squeeze some cleanser onto her hand and smear it across Ye Can’s face. After a few minutes of fussing, Ye Can’s little face was back to its clean, pristine state.

Staring at that collagen-packed youthful glow, Lin Zixi thought, Youth really is invincible. Unable to resist, she reached out and pinched Ye Can’s cheek, smiling: “There, all good.”

That pinch stunned Ye Can, who had just wiped the water from her face.

She stared at the woman smiling faintly before her, glanced down at her hand, and narrowed her long, slender eyes.

Lin Zixi realized she’d overstepped and quickly pulled her hand back, lightly coughing into it to cover: “It’s getting late. You should head back.”

Ye Can eyed her with narrowed eyes, then reached out to pinch Lin Zixi’s chin, demanding, “You pinched me?”

Lin Zixi tried to resist, but Ye Can pinned her against the wall with one hand on her shoulder, trapping her firmly.

Ye Can gripped her chin, leaned in close, and growled, “How dare you. You deserve punishment.”

Lin Zixi raised a hand to fight back: “Ye Can, you—”

Before she could finish, Ye Can leaned down and bit her jawline. Lin Zixi froze completely. She felt Ye Can’s teeth sink into her skin, slowly closing with a faint sting that prickled her nerves. Finally at her limit, she shoved Ye Can away.

Ye Can stumbled back but steadied herself, then looked up at Lin Zixi with clear dissatisfaction: “I was punishing you—why fight it?” In the past, Lin Zixi always took it obediently. How’s she suddenly like a feisty cat now?

Whatever. She probably doesn’t even remember. I’ll be the bigger person and forgive her.

Even with her good temper, Lin Zixi couldn’t tolerate such an invasion. Glaring at the brazenly pretty kid across from her, she snapped, “Ye Can, there’s seriously something wrong with your head.”

Delusional chuunibyou with a side of crazy.

This time, Ye Can arched a brow: “You remember my head’s messed up?” She eagerly grabbed Lin Zixi’s hand, thrilled: “Tell me, what else do you remember?”

Lin Zixi thought Ye Can’s brain was truly off—they’d only met today, yet she talked like they were old flames.

For a split second, Lin Zixi wondered if Ye Can had mistaken her for someone else.

But that was too absurd—and too much hassle. Unwilling to dwell or tangle further, Lin Zixi sighed and shoved Ye Can out of the bathroom.

“I didn’t remember anything. Your face is clean—go to bed.”

With that, she escorted Ye Can all the way to the door and shut it with a bang. Ye Can sensed her displeasure and obediently stepped out.

Squatting by the door, Tong Lin glanced at Ye Can, then at the firmly closed door, inexplicably feeling like Ye Can had been kicked out.

Ye Can rubbed her chin thoughtfully before turning to Tong Lin: “Does biting people make them dislike you?”

Tong Lin thought, Duh, who likes getting bit? Wait—are you a puppy or what?!

She gave Ye Can a deeply weird look, only to see her clench her right fist and smack it into her palm, muttering to herself: “No, I’m punishing her. Why care if she’s happy about it?”

Those feudal overlord vibes, Tong Lin griped inwardly. Feudal empires crumbled centuries ago—how’s she still rocking that human-rights-ignoring landowner mindset?

But Tong Lin was the silent type of bodyguard. Full of gripes or not, she kept her mouth shut.

Afterward, at Ye Can’s direction, Tong Lin took the elevator to the hotel’s top-floor presidential suite.

The Ye Corporation’s properties were everywhere, and this hotel was one of theirs. The presidential suite had originally been booked for an A-list star, but when Tong Lin reported needing rooms, Ye Shen had someone politely ask the star to relocate, reserving it for Ye Can.

Exhausted from running around as an extra all day, Ye Can washed up and hopped onto the bay window to meditate and cultivate.

She’d had chronic illness since childhood, so to combat the headaches, she’d learned a cultivation technique. In this world, she didn’t need sleep anyway—just like always, she meditated.

Tong Lin, waiting outside, heard no further sounds from the room and finally left for her own.

As a competent bodyguard, Tong Lin wrote a report to Ye Shen after washing up.

The report was brief:

“Second Miss seems smitten with Lin Zixi. Kept me by her side near Lin twice today, ran extras three times for love, showing signs of entering showbiz.

Second Miss takes extra roles seriously—even played a corpse willingly, just to leave a good impression on set.

Early morning: Second Miss drove Lin Zixi back to the hotel personally, lingered in her room for half an hour, then bit her.”

Ye Shen, burning the midnight oil, felt her blood pressure spike upon reading Tong Lin’s report.

The next second, she called her secretary and ordered coldly, “Tomorrow morning, put every scrap of info on Lin Zixi on my desk.” She had to see what kind of person had bewitched her Can-can—and when.

The groggy secretary wondered who Lin Zixi was, then got a WeChat from Ye Shen with the name and filmography.

With a wail, the secretary inwardly cursed her tyrannical capitalist boss ten thousand times. Fine, can’t get mad—for that million-yearly salary, she’ll be the most efficient minion every day.

This world was absurd like that—the powerful could disrupt countless lives with a single whim.

Tonight, those losing sleep weren’t just Ye Shen’s staff—Lin Zixi was one too.

Ye Can’s outrageously prominent status and bizarre actions had broken Lin Zixi’s usual calm, leaving her wide awake.

Uncertain of her intentions, Lin Zixi rarely sank into deep thought.

What does this girl want from me? Just toying with me like some idle noble’s plaything… or something more?
