The World Turned into Zombies, So I Went Back to the Countryside to Farm 59p1

Chapter 59 p1: Counterattack

The night was long. Two figures stood on the rooftop, the strong wind lifting the hems of their clothes, making them rustle.

Wen Zhao held a pair of binoculars, maintaining a kneeling position on one knee, gazing into the distance.

Jiang Zao, on the other hand, was leaning against the water tank of the solar water heater on the roof with her eyes closed and arms crossed, like a silent statue in the darkness.

Until the deepest darkness before dawn arrived.

There was finally some movement on the road at the village entrance.

This group of people had gotten out of their cars five or six hundred meters away from the village and were walking into the village while everyone was exhausted.

As luck would have it, the zombies that Chen Jianing had lured last time had not completely dispersed and were wandering at the village entrance. It was not yet dawn, and as soon as the zombies heard the noise, they surrounded them.

Old Three pushed a few women out of the group as cannon fodder, letting them be bitten to death. The others took advantage of this time to climb over the barricade.

Wen Zhao stood up and slung the submachine gun over her shoulder. The moonlight cast her tall figure on the ground.

“Little Zao, they’re here.”

Jiang Zao’s eyes snapped open.

“Let’s go. It’s time to get to work.”

There was another person who couldn’t sleep all night.

Chen Jianing had finally made it through the night until it was almost dawn. She estimated that the time was about right. In the past, the Dragon Tiger Gang always made their move at this hour. She put down her sleeping child, slowly got out of bed, and took out an embroidery needle from under her pillow.

She had begged for this needle from Li Mi when she had come to deliver food during the day, saying that she wanted to mend some clothes for the child.

Now that the clothes were mended, the needle had not been returned. Chen Jianing sat on the edge of the bed, rolled up her sleeves, and slowly, little by little, poked the needle into the already stitched wound on her arm.

When she picked out the first thread, she couldn’t help but let out a few pained cries, and cold sweat dripped down her forehead.

Chen Jianing looked back at the still-sleeping baby, then resolutely turned her head back and poked the needle in again.

When all the stitches were removed and she tremblingly pulled the GPS tracker out of her flesh, Chen Jianing’s face was already as pale as paper. She slid down the side of the bed and sat on the floor, the back of her clothes soaked in a cold sweat.

She bit her lip hard to prevent the painful groans from escaping her throat, and blood also slid down her wrist.

She clutched her arm and stumbled to her feet, walked to the water bucket, and put her arm in.

She was leaning over the water bucket, her hair soaked with sweat and stuck to her forehead, but her expression was a mixture of crying and laughing.

Spring had not yet fully arrived in the mountains, and the water that had been left here all night was still bone-chillingly cold.

After a long while, she finally pulled out her somewhat numb arm. The skin and flesh of the wound were a little white and swollen from being soaked.

She no longer had so much blood to lose.

Chen Jianing’s face was blank. She picked up a towel from the side, wrapped it around her arm, and looked at the black GPS tracker that had fallen on the ground. A fierce light appeared in her eyes, and she stomped on it.

She turned around, picked up her child, and was about to escape under the cover of night when she opened the door, and a figure was standing in the courtyard.

Li Mi slowly turned around.

“Big sister, where are you going so late at night?”

After climbing over the obstacle, Old Three squatted at the base of the wall and took out his phone to take a look. “Boss, the woman’s signal is gone.”

The scar-faced man was holding a gun, gazing at the five-story building, the tallest in the village, in the night. He patted his head.

“We’re already here. Why do you care so much about her?! Tell the brothers not to shoot if possible. I want them alive!”

“Yes, let’s go.”

Old Three waved his hand, and the large group behind him held their guns and entered in single file.

Under the cover of night, no one noticed that a masked figure had quietly slipped out of the group.

In the main hall, after a brief farewell, the two of them disappeared into the darkness.

Wen Zhao squeezed her hand. “Be careful.”

Jiang Zao nodded gently. “You too.”

This was Little Mi’s former home, and later it became their patrol outpost. The two of them were very familiar with every table and chair here. Wen Zhao hid on the rafters, and Jiang Zao hid behind a cabinet, holding her breath and quietly waiting.

Although the courtyard was empty, there were signs of human life everywhere. Old Three pulled down a piece of women’s clothing that was hanging on a rope. “Boss, look, this is it!”

The scar-faced man licked his lips in excitement.

“Spread out, go in quietly, and search room by room. When they wake up, they’ll be ours.”

“Yes.”

Old Three waved his hand, and the formation immediately dispersed.

Wen Zhao, who was hiding on the rafters, chuckled.

“Tactical formation, interesting.”

She looked at the man with a long scar on his face who was walking behind Old Three and holding a handgun. She was lost in thought. That should be the Brother Dao that Chen Jianing had mentioned, the boss of the Dragon Tiger Gang.

As the others entered the rooms separately, the last straggler also walked in, still holding his gun and looking around. A black shadow had quietly landed behind him.

Wen Zhao patted his shoulder. When the person turned around, before he could cry out, his neck was slit.

Wen Zhao took the rifle from his hand, and also took the bullets from his body, weighing them in her hand.

“It’s still a 191 automatic rifle. I don’t know how many dead soldiers it was stripped from. Bastard.”

Wen Zhao kicked the body, dragged the person to a corner, and then climbed back up to the rafters with the rope.

With a soft creak of the door.

Two armed bandits walked in. They saw a pile of quilts on the bed in the darkness, with the faint shape of a person lying there. They exchanged a look, their eyes filled with greed and excitement, and walked straight over. They lifted the quilt, but who knew that inside was a teddy bear.

The man’s pupils shrank.

“Oh no, it’s a trap. Hurry up and inform…”

Before he could finish, a bright dagger flashed out of the darkness. He could only helplessly cover his neck and fall down.

Blood splattered on Jiang Zao’s face, making her eyes as bright as stars. The other bandit came to his senses and was about to quickly load his gun when Jiang Zao lifted his gun, grabbed the barrel, and pulled it back. The stock hit him straight in the face.

Under the great force, the man took a few steps back. In that instant, a bright dagger had already appeared in front of him and was deeply embedded in his chest.

Jiang Zao forcefully pulled out the dagger and wiped her hands and the blood-stained blade on his clothes.

“What’s the big deal? I still think the ice axe is better. At least it won’t get me covered in blood. So dirty.”

She had originally wanted to take the ice axe, but Wen Zhao had said that a dagger was more concealable in alley fights. Although the ice axe was good, it was a bit clumsy for dealing with humans.

Jiang Zao closed the door, dragged the two bodies under the bed, then opened the window, pulled the rope on it, tied it around her waist, stood on the windowsill, and climbed up to the second floor with the rope.

“I… I was just getting up to go to the toilet. What… what are you doing?”

Chen Jianing watched as Li Mi tied her up and couldn’t help but struggle a few times.

Li Mi put her wrists behind her back and tied a tight knot. “You know very well whether you were going to the toilet or not. Don’t waste your energy. This kind of knot is usually for tying up prey. The more you struggle, the tighter it gets.”

“You… you all know?” Only then did Chen Jianing realize that she had been deceived by their pretense. Her heart sank, and a hint of sorrow appeared on her face. She began to beg for mercy.

“If I didn’t do this, they would have killed me! You saw it too, all these injuries on my body…”

No matter what she said, Li Mi just turned a deaf ear.

Until the sleeping baby was woken up by the talking in the room and began to cry hysterically.

Li Mi walked to the side of the bed.

Chen Jianing suddenly became nervous, and tears welled up in her eyes. “You… don’t touch her. She’s innocent!”

Li Mi glanced at her, just picked up the child, gently patted her chest, and walked back and forth to soothe her.

The child’s crying did not stop. She untied the swaddling clothes and took a look. The diaper was also dry. Chen Jianing said.

“Maybe… maybe she’s hungry. She usually wakes up at this time in the middle of the night. I… I know I’ve wronged you, but I was forced to. It has nothing to do with my child. If she keeps crying like this, she’ll cry her throat hoarse. Just let me feed her a little.”

Li Mi glanced at the thick, impenetrable night outside the window. She was a little worried that if the child kept crying like this, it would attract those bad people. She looked at Chen Jianing’s tearful appearance, which did not seem fake.

Even if she ran away, she could catch her again.

Li Mi had always been very confident in her own strength, so she squatted down, untied the rope on her hands, but her legs were still tied. She handed the child to her.

“Alright then. Don’t delay. Hurry up and feed her.”

Chen Jianing carefully took the child, lifted her clothes, and Li Mi turned her face away.

Chen Jianing took out the locket from her bra and secretly held it in her hand. After the child was full, she pulled down her clothes again.

“Here.”

She handed the child back. Taking advantage of the moment Li Mi was holding the child and turning around, she suddenly attacked, grabbing her from behind and choking her neck with all her might. The force was so great that the iron chain dug into her flesh.

Li Mi was still holding the child. Caught off guard, she was pulled back several steps. The feeling of suffocation gradually made her face turn red. Her eyes sharpened, and she quickly tucked in her chin, moved the child to her left hand, and raised her right elbow to hit her in the abdomen.

Chen Jianing cried out in pain, and her grip loosened. Li Mi turned her body, broke free from her grip, twisted her arm, and kicked her in the back of the knee.

Chen Jianing fell to her knees with a thud, clutching her stomach and convulsing, her face pale.

Li Mi picked up the rope and walked towards her.

“I told you, you can’t beat me.”

Blood trickled from the corner of Chen Jianing’s mouth. She looked up, but her gaze was on something behind her, and a cold smile appeared on her face.

“Is that so…”

Li Mi’s pupils shrank. Before she could turn around, the butt of a gun had already hit her on the temple, and she fell to the ground.

“You’re finally here.”

Old Eight squatted down, untied the rope on her, and turned around. He looked at Li Mi, who was on the ground, and loaded his handgun.

Chen Jianing grabbed his hand.

“Don’t… don’t kill her. She’s still useful!”

Old Eight squinted at Li Mi’s delicate face and the budding curves under her clothes, and put away his gun.

“Alright then. It’s been a long time since I’ve had a taste of something so tender.”
