Chapter 101: Electronic Intrusion

Mizar’s smartphone had a passcode lock that Tsukiyomi Ruri couldn’t bypass on her own. But she felt there was someone who could solve that problem for her.

That person was Kanazawa Maki.

The Reincarnator Forum was a massive organization with no shortage of tech-savvy Reincarnators. Getting one of those members to help unlock a phone’s passcode shouldn’t be too difficult a request, right?

Before long, Tsukiyomi Ruri arrived near Kanazawa Maki’s residence. Her true body didn’t approach. Instead, she sent the Faceless drifting over with Mizar’s phone in hand.

Currently, Kanazawa Maki was scrolling through the Reincarnator Forum… For all Reincarnators, browsing the forum was an extremely common action. To them, it wasn’t just idle chat; it was a place to gather all sorts of crucial intelligence. This vital information might very well save their lives one day.

“Kanazawa Maki.” A hoarse voice came from right beside her.

Kanazawa Maki nearly jumped out of her skin. The voice had originated from an incredibly close distance, yet she hadn’t detected the presence at all?

She whipped around quickly. But the moment she saw the Faceless, the corner of Kanazawa Maki’s mouth twitched involuntarily.

Kanazawa Maki naturally wouldn’t forget the Faceless. Seeing her immediately reminded Kanazawa Maki of the last encounter with that person in the little bear costume, which in turn reminded her of the SSR-Grade Ability Card, Hellfire, that she had lost.

That was the sting of heartache!

Taking a deep breath, Kanazawa Maki forced out a smile. “My Lord, what brings you here with your free time?”

Tsukiyomi Ruri didn’t waste any time. She had the Faceless gesture towards Mizar’s phone. “Unlock this.”

Kanazawa Maki paused briefly, and her expression became a little strange. This was the last kind of request she’d expected.

Could she refuse? Of course not.

“No problem at all. I specialize in these matters. Let me handle it,” Kanazawa Maki agreed.

To handle diverse problems across various environments, Reincarnators usually had a wide range of specialties. This became even more pronounced with stronger Reincarnators.

As a Top-Level Reincarnator, Kanazawa Maki had quite a broad range of expertise.

After taking the phone, a silver light emerged from Kanazawa Maki’s hand, seeping into the device.

‘This is the Electronic Intrusion ability? I feel like I’ve seen it before. It’s an SR-Grade ability.’

Tsukiyomi Ruri quickly made her judgment. She had witnessed a staggering number of abilities in her time.

In no time at all, Kanazawa Maki finished analyzing the smartphone and handed it back to the Faceless.

“My Lord, the passcode lock has been removed,” Kanazawa Maki said politely.

The Faceless took the phone and immediately opened it. Tsukiyomi Ruri, sharing the Faceless’s vision, read the contents on the screen, automatically filtering out Kanazawa Maki beside her.

Big Dipper Group.

Commander Dubhe.

Experiments.

Dreams.

A multitude of information poured in, and Tsukiyomi Ruri quickly absorbed it all from the phone. The tangled threads of events were gradually becoming clear in her eyes.

“So that’s how it is.”

With a soft sigh, Tsukiyomi Ruri had the Faceless set the phone down, then turn around and leave.

Watching the Faceless drift out the window, Kanazawa Maki glanced at the phone left behind and quickly called out, “My Lord, you didn’t take your phone with you.”

“No, it’s your phone,” came the Faceless’s voice, its figure already receding into the distance.

Kanazawa Maki was left bewildered. How had it become her phone?

She walked over to the phone and picked it up.

‘Could this Lord Faceless be giving this phone to me? But what use does this phone have for me?’

Curious, Kanazawa Maki picked up the phone and began to examine it.

After browsing for a moment, Kanazawa Maki’s expression grew increasingly serious.

She had been dispatched here precisely because of the Reincarnator experiment case in Natsuki City. Before now, she hadn’t been able to obtain any further information on the matter, leaving her with no leads to investigate.

But now, she had a lead.

…

Inside the laboratory.

Inoue Meiran smoothed his long hair, gazing out the window in silence.

Behind him stood two people. One was a melancholic-looking middle-aged man, Megrez. The other was a woman who appeared intelligent and refined, with a graceful bearing; this was Phecda.

The atmosphere was a heavy silence at the moment. Just moments ago, they had all received a notification from the Reincarnation Space, informing them of Mizar’s death. Faced with this news, they truly couldn’t remain calm.

The Big Dipper Group originally consisted of seven members: Dubhe, Merak, Phecda, Megrez, Alioth, Mizar, and Alkaid—all codenamed after the stars of the Big Dipper.

Alkaid had betrayed them and left. To this day, Inoue Meiran didn’t know the reason for that betrayal. Alioth had died mysteriously, and Inoue Meiran also didn’t know the cause of that death. And today, Mizar was dead, and again, Inoue Meiran didn’t know why.

All Inoue Meiran knew was that both Alioth and Mizar had died while searching for test subjects for his sake.

Just then, a ringtone broke the silence. Inoue Meiran took out his phone, glanced at it, and answered.

“Mizar is dead. What’s going on now? Why have there been so many incidents lately?” An annoyed female voice came from the other end of the line, clearly dissatisfied with the current state of affairs.

“I don’t know,” Inoue Meiran replied flatly. “But I will find out.”

The caller fell silent for a moment.

Inoue Meiran continued, “Merak, you need to come back here.”

“I’m not coming,” Merak’s voice was cold and composed on the other end. “Commander, you should focus on resolving the current mess first. I’m not optimistic about our team’s prospects. If another member dies or quits, then I’ll simply withdraw as well.”

With those words, Merak hung up directly.

Though it was a phone call, Phecda and Megrez behind him had also overheard Merak’s words.

“Merak has gone too far. How can she speak like that?” Phecda pursed her lips, looking deeply displeased.

“Yes, to abandon us in a time of shared hardship—I suggest we kick her out of the team immediately,” Megrez added, his displeasure evident.

Inoue Meiran raised a hand to stop them. “Enough of that. We can deal with Merak later. For now, let’s first address the uninvited guests.”

Clap. Clap. Clap…

The sound of slow clapping echoed from outside.

Immediately after, Alkaid’s voice drifted in: “As expected of the Commander. We’ve barely arrived, and you already know we’re here. But Mizar is dead too? Died just as mysteriously as Alioth? That’s quite strange, isn’t it? Could it be that the heavens are watching, Commander? Are you due for some retribution?”
