Su Xijing had originally loved going to school.
After all, just as Aunt Rong Jin had said, school meant playing with lots of other kids and learning all sorts of knowledge—it sounded so fun.
That was what she thought, right up until she got into a fight with Song Chuyi.
By the time Su Xijing reported for class, it was nearly nine o’clock. Most of the kids in the class had already arrived one after another and were sitting in their seats. The ones who knew each other chatted away, chattering back and forth with occasional giggles. Su Xijing couldn’t quite make out what they were saying, but she felt a little envious.
She wanted to play with the other kids too.
She watched them eagerly until a familiar figure appeared at the door.
Song Chuyi was the last one in the class to arrive. Her mommy, Qu Yiling, had brought her and chatted with Teacher Yu at the door for a bit before leaving.
With her little backpack on, Song Chuyi walked into the classroom, still sporting her pigtails, lips pursed, and tears glistening in her eyes.
The last empty seat in the class was right next to Su Xijing. Su Xijing waved at her happily. “Weiwei, sit with me!”
Song Chuyi glared at her, scanned the whole class, and realized there really was no other spot. Only then did she reluctantly shuffle over to Su Xijing’s side and plop her backpack on the desk.
Song Chuyi sat down, not even glancing at Su Xijing the whole time.
Su Xijing found it very strange.
Even though she and Song Chuyi tended to argue whenever they met, Su Xijing still considered her a good friend—just the kind whose friendship was a bit unusual, like Aunt Rong Jin and Mommy used to be.
But Song Chuyi completely ignored her.
Feeling a little wronged, Su Xijing called out softly, “Song Chuyi, why are you ignoring me…”
Song Chuyi whipped her head around, staring at her intently. “Su Xijing, did you do it on purpose?”
Su Xijing was baffled. “What?”
Question marks practically floated above her head.
What had she done on purpose?
Song Chuyi glanced around—no one was listening to them anymore.
She whispered, “During the entrance exam, you finished so fast, so I asked you to pass me the answers. I copied yours and only got ten points!”
Su Xijing: “…Huh?”
The entrance exam scores had been automatically sent via the system backend to the phones of every parent who had registered for it before school started. Aunt Zhao had taken Su Xijing to the exam, so her score went to Aunt Zhao’s phone.
Su Xijing had gotten first place in the grade with a whopping 96 points, far ahead of everyone else.
Aunt Zhao had shown the score notification text to Su Qingqiu. Su Qingqiu knew it wasn’t Su Xijing who had taken the test—Rong Jin had done it—so she hadn’t paid it any mind.
Su Xijing shook her head vigorously like a rattle drum. “Xixi doesn’t know anything about it.”
She hadn’t taken the entrance exam at all!
Then Su Xijing seemed to think of something. “Why did you want me to pass you the answers?”
Song Chuyi: “Because I didn’t know how to do them!”
Su Xijing said in surprise, “That’s cheating. You can’t cheat.”
Song Chuyi: “You knew if I did badly, my mommy would laugh at me and not let me play games or watch TV!”
She really had been banned from games and TV for a whole week because her entrance exam score was so terrible!
It was all Su Xijing’s fault!
Song Chuyi got even angrier, puffing up like a little storm cloud. She huffed, turned her face away, and refused to look at Su Xijing anymore.
When her mommy got the score notification, Song Chuyi had sneaked a peek from her little room.
She had been looking forward to it because she knew Su Xijing was smart. If she’d copied the whole paper from her, the score had to be good.
But her mommy stared at the score text on her phone for a long time before sighing worriedly.
Her other mommy, Song Limo, had just come home and pulled her mommy into a hug for a kiss… Eww, shameless grown-ups!
Her mommy showed the phone to Song Limo. After reading the text, Song Limo raised her brows in surprise.
Song Chuyi heard Song Limo say, “I knew this little thing was dumb, but I didn’t think she’d be this dumb.”
Her mommy’s voice was soft and gentle: “…Don’t say that about Weiwei.”
“She only got ten points. Even if she’d bubbled C for every question, it’d be more than ten.”
“…”
She heard her mommy’s troubled voice: “Sigh, do you think I should take her to get her IQ tested? It’s all my fault—I never even considered that possibility before.”
“The day I picked her up, the weather was pretty cold, and she had a high fever. Do you think that’s when her brain got fried?”
“…”
How could she have only gotten ten points?
Panicking over her ten points, she dashed out of her room. In her haste, she tripped over a toy on the carpet and face-planted with a thud.
It was the most humiliating moment of her short five years of life.
Her mommy rushed over to help her up. “Weiwei, how did you trip and fall like that?”
She lifted her head, not looking at her mommy, but at Song Limo’s face.
Song Limo’s expression was indifferent, but Song Chuyi knew she was laughing at her!
“…”
Song Chuyi thought about how Song Limo had mocked her for days, dragged her for an IQ test, and banned games and TV for a week!
She swore she wouldn’t talk to Su Xijing for three days to show her how mad she really was!
Then Song Chuyi suddenly wondered: What if Su Xijing hadn’t known the answers either and had just filled it out randomly, which was why she’d finished so fast?
Had she wronged Su Xijing?
She couldn’t wrong Su Xijing!
Song Chuyi whipped her face back around huffily and asked, “How many points did you get?”
Su Xijing blinked. “I don’t know. Mommy didn’t tell me the score.”
Song Chuyi thought maybe Su Xijing had done badly too, just like her, so her mommy hadn’t told her either. That was normal.
So they were still good friends!
Song Chuyi sneaked a glance at Su Xijing and asked awkwardly, “I heard you went abroad to play? Was it fun?”
Su Xijing blinked, not sure why Song Chuyi was suddenly talking to her again.
She answered honestly, “It was okay, but I was in the hospital the whole time.”
Song Chuyi asked anxiously, “Were you sick?”
Su Xijing shook her head. “Not exactly sick…”
She furrowed her little brow, unsure how to explain it to Song Chuyi.
Teacher Yu finished checking off the class roster and confirmed everyone was there. She walked to the podium and clapped her hands.
“Alright, all the kids are here. We’re going to spend the next six happy years together. I’m your homeroom teacher, Teacher Yu.”
The kids chorused in their tender voices, “Hello, Teacher Yu!”
Teacher Yu looked at the cute, well-behaved little beans and couldn’t help smiling.
As expected of kids from the affluent district—such good manners, all so obedient.
This was going to be an easy six years.
“Hello, kids! Today is the first day of school, so the teacher will call roll one by one. Let’s start with self-introductions, okay?”
The little beans shouted together, “Okay!”
Teacher Yu silently clutched her heart.
So cute.
The little beans went up one by one for self-introductions. Some were lively and outgoing, some clever and quirky, some shy and timid—but all good kids.
Soon it was Su Xijing’s turn.
She was a bit nervous, blinking her big eyes timidly at Teacher Yu.
Teacher Yu: “Xixi, come introduce yourself to the class, okay?”
Su Xijing was still scared.
She had never spoken in front of so many people before.
Teacher Yu encouraged her, “Come on, everyone, lend Xixi a bit of courage. Xixi got first place in the grade on the entrance exam—she’s super impressive!”
Su Xijing: “First in the grade?”
Aunt Rong Jin had gotten her first place?
Song Chuyi was stunned when she heard that.
Su Xijing was first in the grade, and she’d copied her paper but only got ten points!
Her eyes instantly reddened, nose wrinkling, lips bitten, the corners of her eyes turning pink. She felt so wronged that tears welled up, and it looked like she might burst into sobs any second.
“Su Xijing, you’re a big liar!”
All the kids turned to look at them.
Teacher Yu looked at them in surprise too.
Song Chuyi stood up, shoving her chair back hard. The desk was a bit small; she wobbled and tripped right over, falling straight onto Su Xijing.
Teacher Yu hurried down from the podium to help her up.
Then she saw them rolling around on the floor together.
Song Chuyi started it, crying and tugging at Su Xijing’s clothes. Su Xijing was dazed at first, but she quickly realized why Song Chuyi was so mad.
Aunt Rong Jin must have done something.
But the root cause was Song Chuyi wanting to cheat! If she hadn’t cheated, nothing would have happened!
And now she was hitting people too.
So Su Xijing fought back.
The two rolled on the floor, scrapping it out.
The whole class erupted. The once-obedient little beans forgot to sit still at the sight of this heated spectacle and stood up to get a better look.
Chaos reigned.
Teacher Yu rushed over and scooped both scrapping beans into her arms, forcibly separating them.
“Alright, alright, stop fighting.”
Song Chuyi, furious, still tried to scratch at Su Xijing.
“You’re a big liar!”
“I’m not a liar!”
“It’s all your fault!”
“It’s your own fault!”
…
They definitely couldn’t sit together anymore.
Teacher Yu moved Song Chuyi and Su Xijing to opposite corners of the classroom, as far apart as possible. Even then, they glared daggers at each other across the room, neither backing down.
Teacher Yu had no choice but to call the parents, deeply worried.
On the first day of school, calling parents over a fight.
What about the rest of the six years?
…
Rong Jin and Su Qingqiu hurried back. From afar, they spotted the two kids standing at the door.
The other little beans were still in the classroom, with a dozen heads poking out the windows to peer outside.
“Don’t push me!”
“You’re the one pushing—move!”
“Stop moving, I’m gonna fall!”
Su Xijing saw Mommy and Aunt Rong return, and the tears she’d been holding back spilled out. She wailed pitifully, “Mommy, Weiwei hit me…”
Song Chuyi was just as aggrieved. “Xixi lied, she tricked me, waaah…”
Both kids burst into loud cries, their sobs echoing up and down the hallway.
Su Qingqiu hugged Su Xijing, heartbroken. “Don’t cry, Xixi. You’ve cried twice today already. Any more and you’ll turn into tabby-cat Xixi.”
Su Xijing sniffled and hiccuped.
Song Chuyi saw no one comforting her while the other mommy had arrived, which made her even sadder.
Teacher Yu hurried to soothe Song Chuyi.
Just then, Song Limo and Qu Yiling rushed over too.
Song Limo hadn’t worked since retiring from the industry, and Qu Yiling had conveniently called in sick with a “sore waist” today, so they arrived quickly.
Song Chuyi threw herself into Qu Yiling’s arms. “Mommy, waaah…”
Qu Yiling cooed, “Why are you crying again, Weiwei? Tell Mommy what happened.”
Song Limo stood behind with her arms crossed.
Rong Jin kept glancing at Song Limo—she looked so familiar.
She knew Qu Yiling had a partner and a kid, but she’d never imagined it was a woman, let alone a retired superstar.
And she happened to be that very superstar’s fan.
Rong Jin rubbed her hands, her fangirl urges bubbling up.
The two kids were still crying, the mommies fussing over them heartbrokenly, while the culprit quietly wheeled herself over to Song Limo’s side. “You’re Song Limo?”
Song Limo nodded coolly.
Rong Jin: “Your movies are all so good. It was such a shame when you retired… Could you sign something for me?”
Qu Yiling: “…”
Su Qingqiu: “…”
Song Limo: “…Sure.”
Gotta grab the chances when it comes.🤭
