Chapter 35: Day 35 of Transmigrating into an Object

She waited a long time, until Shen Wenyi had fallen asleep, before quietly creeping up.

Shen Wenyi’s Bluetooth earbuds were the same brand as hers, they charged quickly, reaching full in just two hours. She only needed to wait until Shen Wenyi was asleep, connect the fully charged earbuds to her own phone, then place them into Shen Wenyi’s ears. She’d turn the volume down to the lowest setting, just enough so there was sound.

She knew this might not work. Shen Wenyi could wake up at any moment. Maybe she wouldn’t even get the earbuds in before Shen Wenyi’s eyes opened.

Just imagining that scene was awkward enough to create a whole galaxy.

But this was the best plan she could think of. Time was limited. If she waited until tomorrow morning, her chances would be even slimmer.

No matter what, she had to try tonight. Even a 1% chance was better than none.

She crept up, tiptoed out of bed, and walked over to the nightstand to check the earbuds’ charge.

Not full yet. She’d wait a bit longer.

She’d calculated the time. Generously speaking, she only had two hours of listening tonight. After Shen Wenyi woke up, she’d need to keep listening for at least another two hours or so.

In other words, as long as Shen Wenyi didn’t take the earbuds off after waking, keeping them in until she was done with makeup and about to film, the battery should just about run out.

She still needed to figure out how to keep Shen Wenyi from removing the earbuds in the morning. For now, the most urgent thing was getting through tonight’s two hours.

She hopped back into bed with the charging case. Having no sense of touch was so inconvenient. She didn’t even dare wear shoes, afraid she wouldn’t feel the floor and the sound would wake Shen Wenyi.

She couldn’t feel the bed either, needing her phone’s screen as a light just to slip smoothly back under the covers.

She absolutely dared not let go of her phone. She relied entirely on sight now to find things; her hands couldn’t feel a thing.

Clutching her phone, she lay in bed, the charging case by her pillow, and finally closed her eyes.

Even with eyes closed, she didn’t dare sleep. She was afraid of missing the moment the earbuds fully charged. Plus, she still needed to ponder how to keep Shen Wenyi from taking them off tomorrow, so she couldn’t sleep anyway.

Couldn’t sleep?

Exhausted from a long day, and having tossed and turned half the night, before she could even come up with an idea, she fell asleep.

In the dimness, Shen Wenyi silently propped herself up in bed. She glanced at Jiang Shiyang at the foot of the bed, then checked her phone and the nightstand.

The Bluetooth earbuds’ charging case was gone.

Shen Wenyi looked towards Jiang Shiyang again, a thoughtful expression on her face, and slowly lay back down.

Jiang Shiyang had a nightmare. She dreamt her mission had failed. Every night, Shen Wenyi would put her in the blankets, roasting her over an open flame every single night. Yet she couldn’t move a muscle. In the dream, she was so tormented she wished her soul could leave her body, push Shen Wenyi down, and then do this and that and this and that again, really teaching Shen Wenyi a lesson!

But she just couldn’t move, couldn’t move at all. If she’d known, she would have clung shamelessly and used every trick in the book to complete the mission!

The mission? Right, the mission!

She jolted awake.

What time was it?!

The phone was still in her hand. Even though she couldn’t feel it, she could just barely make out its outline in the faint light from the window.

She unlocked it with muscle memory.

The screen lit up. She checked the time first. Good, it was about when she’d planned, didn’t miss the crucial moment.

Only then did she use the screen’s light to find the charging case. The earbuds were fully charged. It was time to act.

As a model, upstanding youth, it was her first time doing something like this. Her heart couldn’t help but pound, her hands trembling a little as she connected the Bluetooth earbuds to her phone.

With the earbuds connected, she tiptoed out of bed, still barefoot. Without her sense of touch, she had to occasionally shine the light on the floor to walk steadily.

After much difficulty, she silently made her way to Shen Wenyi’s side. She took out one earbud, using the phone’s glow to carefully slip it into Shen Wenyi’s right ear.

Shen Wenyi was lying flat on her back. She stirred slightly, seemingly uncomfortable. Jiang Shiyang froze, the half-inserted earbud pinched between her fingers, not daring to move a muscle.

Luckily, Shen Wenyi settled after just that one motion. Jiang Shiyang let out a sigh of relief.

Honestly, the fright people give you can kill. Even in your sleep, you manage to scare me to death, Shen Wenyi!

She finished placing the right earbud and took out the other one.

The right ear was on the bedside, easy to reach. The left ear was on the inside, much trickier to get to.

She cautiously leaned over, holding her phone out for light. In the screen’s glow, Shen Wenyi slept peacefully. Her long lashes were closed, her lips slightly pursed. You usually didn’t notice, but looking this close, her face really was small.

Gently, she placed the left earbud in. Her gaze remained fixed on Shen Wenyi’s eyes. Shen Wenyi’s eyelashes didn’t even flutter.

Shen Wenyi, oh Shen Wenyi, you sleep so soundly, someone could carry you off and sell you without you even knowing.

Mission accomplished. She padded barefoot back to her side of the bed, opened her music app, and randomly searched for a soothing light music track to put on single-repeat.

She hadn’t woken when the earbuds were being put in, so she probably wouldn’t be woken by the sound now, right? The volume was at its lowest. Any lower and there’d be no sound at all.

She cautiously observed Shen Wenyi’s direction through the gloom. A good while passed. There was no movement at all.

She breathed a sigh of relief.

Lying on her side, facing Shen Wenyi, she pondered again how to keep her from taking the earbuds off in the morning. There was definitely no flawless, foolproof idea. She’d just have to risk it and be shameless.

With her mind made up, drowsiness gradually crept in. Before she could fall asleep, Shen Wenyi suddenly stirred and turned over.

The perspective of the earbud didn’t look right. The right one had fallen out!

She was instantly wide awake.

Having a shared soul with the Bluetooth earbuds at least had one benefit: she noticed things instantly.

Holding her phone for light, she crept out of bed, found the earbud, and put it back in Shen Wenyi’s ear.

She sighed in relief and got back under the covers.

Before she could fall asleep, Shen Wenyi turned over again!

The earbud fell out again!

She got up again and put it back in again.

She crawled back under the covers, waited a while, grew sleepy, and was just about to drift off when the earbud fell out yet again?!

She hadn’t noticed Shen Wenyi being such a restless sleeper before. What was going on now? Why was she constantly turning over?

Had Shen Wenyi woken up? Was she pretending to be asleep?!

No, no way. If Shen Wenyi were awake, she’d definitely ask what she was doing. She wouldn’t just hold it in.

Besides, she’d only slept in the same bed as Shen Wenyi once before, and this was only the second time. And last time, she’d fallen asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow. How could she know if Shen Wenyi was a restless sleeper or not?

Shen Wenyi probably just slept like this.

Since Shen Wenyi slept so deeply, and moved around so much, she probably wouldn’t wake easily. So maybe…

She was too lazy to keep getting out of bed. Every time she walked, she had to shine a light on the floor; not a single step felt steady. Plus, climbing up and down was a hassle. The foot and head of the bed weren’t that far apart anyway, might as well stay close.

She crawled out from her covers, didn’t get off the bed, and followed her phone’s light across the bed to Shen Wenyi’s side. Shen Wenyi was facing away from her, the earbud fallen to the other side of her face.

Raising her phone, she carefully reached out and retrieved the earbud. She gently brushed aside the hair covering Shen Wenyi’s ear and reinserted the earbud, afraid to push too hard in case she woke her.

Just as she was about to head back after placing it, Shen Wenyi stirred slightly, still facing away. But the earbud on the pillow side had loosened and slipped out of her ear canal too.

She could sense the earbud’s perspective was wrong.

She looked to the heavens, speechless. How could they fall out so easily? First one side, then the other. Couldn’t she just have some peace?!

With a sigh, she resignedly went back. Carefully leaning over, she took the earbud out, gently nudged Shen Wenyi’s head, and put it back in.

This time, she didn’t bother returning to her side. She simply lay down right next to Shen Wenyi. She wanted to see if the earbuds would keep falling out!

The king-size bed wasn’t small, plenty of room for both of them. However, she was lying outside the covers, and Shen Wenyi was inside them.

Not a few minutes passed before Shen Wenyi rolled onto her back, and the right earbud fell out again.

Hah. Haha.

Looks like sleep was out of the question tonight.

She put the earbud back in. After so many tries without Shen Wenyi waking, she gradually relaxed. She just lay there beside Shen Wenyi, not pulling the covers over herself. The heater was on anyway, it wasn’t cold. So she waited for the earbud to fall again.

As she lay there waiting, she fell asleep.

Some unknown time later, the sky outside began to lighten. Shen Wenyi opened her eyes and turned her head to look at Jiang Shiyang sleeping beside her.

The gentle music was still playing in the earbuds. It was a tune she hadn’t heard before; she didn’t know its name, but it was very pleasant and relaxing, with sounds of birdsong and the feeling of a forest.

Why had Jiang Shiyang put earbuds in her ears in the middle of the night, making her listen to this?

And how was Jiang Shiyang so sharp, instantly noticing when the earbuds fell out?

The first time, she thought it was an accident. The second time, she assumed it was a coincidence that Jiang Shiyang noticed. But then she’d deliberately let them fall out so many times after, and it was a coincidence every single time?

The bedding beside her shifted. Jiang Shiyang, deep asleep, presumably felt cold, and instinctively sought warmth, burrowing into her blanket.

Jiang Shiyang’s way of burrowing into the blanket was strange. When others are cold, they subconsciously tug at the covers. Jiang Shiyang did make a tugging motion, but even though she had clearly touched the blanket, her hand was still fumbling in the air. She groped around for a long time before finding her way under the covers, and then her whole body wriggled in after.

Yes, wriggled. Like a kitten or a puppy nuzzling into its mother’s embrace. Even though a simple pull of the blanket would have sufficed, her hand seemed unable to feel the fabric, her body just seeking warmth on pure instinct.

Jiang Shiyang burrowed into the bed. The bedding billowed. Shen Wenyi watched the approaching figure. The morning light was dim, the room hazy, making it hard to see clearly. Yet that familiar silhouette still made her heart uncontrollably skip a beat.

She knew perfectly well that Jiang Shiyang was only moving closer because she was cold. So why couldn’t she control her racing heart?

She reached out and pulled the blanket, covering Jiang Shiyang’s exposed shoulder. She couldn’t understand how someone so grown up could be like a little kid, unable to even cover herself properly with a blanket. Was it so hard to pull the blanket when feeling cold?

She sighed. Just then, her phone alarm rang. She quickly reached out to silence it, turning her head to look at Jiang Shiyang.

Jiang Shiyang’s eyes were closed, her long hair spread across the pillow, her breathing deep and even. She hadn’t woken.

Shen Wenyi lowered her long lashes, stuffing her phone back under the pillow. She knew she should get up. She shouldn’t keep lying in the same bed with Jiang Shiyang. Shouldn’t entertain any more fantasies.

But… her mind was clear, yet her body completely refused to listen.

She gazed longingly at Jiang Shiyang, so close at hand. The woman she’d liked ever since the first stirrings of love. Her hand moved disobediently, reaching out, inch by inch, towards that face she longed for day and night.

Just as her fingertips were about to touch, she suddenly clenched her hand into a fist.

No. No, she couldn’t.

After all these years, don’t you see clearly yet? Stop deluding yourself.

Jiang Shiyang staying here was probably just another ploy she’d thought up to annoy you. Wasn’t it always like this?

Forget it, just get up. It would be even more awkward once Jiang Shiyang woke. She really had no energy left to keep sparring with Jiang Shiyang.

Shen Wenyi closed her eyes and sighed. Just as she was about to prop herself up, an arm suddenly draped over her.

Shen Wenyi opened her eyes. She lifted the blanket to glance at the arm, then looked at its owner. Her crystal-clear eyes trembled slightly, her heart once again beating wildly out of control.

Jiang Shiyang is just… just doing it unconsciously. She hasn’t woken up, she’s still asleep. Don’t flatter yourself, Shen Wenyi. It’s impossible that Jiang Shiyang did this intentionally.

Shen Wenyi managed to somewhat steady her breathing. Just as she was about to move Jiang Shiyang’s arm away, Jiang Shiyang suddenly tilted her head, burying her entire face against her chest!

Jiang Shiyang, what is she…

No, don’t overthink it. Jiang Shiyang is just disoriented from sleep, don’t read into it. There’s absolutely no way Jiang Shiyang is doing this deliberately.

Shen Wenyi looked down at Jiang Shiyang, her chest heaving violently. The sight before her was a powerful jolt to her nerves. For a moment, her mind went completely blank.

Jiang Shiyang’s eyes were still closed, her red lips slightly pursed. Her face, buried against her chest, even nuzzled back and forth. Shen Wenyi even saw Jiang Shiyang’s nostrils twitch, like an underage kitten rooting around for its mother’s scent.

Rooting… kitten?

Rooting?

Shen Wenyi’s heart ached with the force of its beating.

Suddenly!

Jiang Shiyang full-on hugged her!

Shen Wenyi went completely rigid. Her slender back instinctively straightened, the small of her back arching deeply. She looked down at Jiang Shiyang, who was now wrapped around her with all four limbs, face still buried against her chest.

Is… is this a dream?

Shen Wenyi’s consciousness blurred. She felt this must be a beautiful, seductive fantasy. Everything was fake, a product of her own wishful thinking.

How could Jiang Shiyang possibly be hugging her? Hugging her this tightly? And…

A wave of warmth spread across her chest. It was Jiang Shiyang’s moist, hot breath, and it was her own steadily rising body temperature.

Shen Wenyi’s mind was in chaos. She was utterly unable to think, all logic tied in knots, not one thread able to explain the scene before her.

Why on earth was Jiang Shiyang insisting on staying in her room?

What exactly did Jiang Shiyang want?

Don’t be delusional, Shen Wenyi. It’s impossible. How could Jiang Shiyang be doing this on purpose?!

After all these years, and countless probes, don’t you understand yet?

Jiang Shiyang simply doesn’t…

A sudden chill grazed her waist. Shen Wenyi’s breath caught. The last vestiges of thought scattered like smoke. Her already racing heart now drummed with wild abandon, as if her very blood was flowing in reverse!

Shen Wenyi’s lips were slightly parted, panting, barely able to breathe.

She knew what was under her pajamas. It was Jiang Shiyang’s… hand.

Was Jiang Shiyang really… not doing this on purpose?

Jiang Shiyang was born incompatible with Shen Wenyi.

In elementary school, Shen Wenyi fought her for the Three-Bar Armband; in middle school, for Top of the Grade; and in college, even the title of School Flower?!

After finally entering the entertainment industry, Shen Wenyi, who has a family mine to inherit, actually followed her into the business to snatch resources?!

She and Shen Wenyi became Best Actresses one after the other, and fans of both sides tore each other apart like an alien galaxy, each convinced their idol was the number one in domestic entertainment.

Her fans: "Our Yangyang made it entirely on her own, a truly inspirational Best Actress in the industry, unlike someone who only relies on capital to get ahead!"

Shen Wenyi's fans: "Our Yiyi can go home and inherit billions if she doesn't become Best Actress, unlike someone who shamelessly steals others' titles!"

She: "Tear them apart! Go all out! The fans follow the idol, tear them to shreds!"

Just as she personally logged into a sockpuppet account to post a fake fan message with advanced shade: "Our Yiyi's Cartier ring was bought to match Jiang Shiyang's same style. Matching styles isn't scary; who's ugly is who's embarrassed!~"

The next second, she transmigrated into Shen Wenyi's Cartier ring.

And later, lipstick, soap, body lotion, underwear, pillowcase, toothbrush... nothing she hadn't turned into.

At the same time, she bound a Time-limited Task System. Only by completing various tasks could she exchange for human form duration.

[First task: Please make Shen Wenyi kiss the ring for ten seconds. Reward: eight hours of human form duration.]

Coughing up three liters of blood.

How could a ring that can't talk or move make Shen Wenyi kiss her?!?
