In a small alley within Rhine City, Amelia and Eileen walked forward slowly.
Because it was an overcast day, the alleyway appeared quite dim. The sound of every footstep echoed clearly.
“Eileen, we’re going to infiltrate the Iris syndicate next,” Amelia whispered a warning to Eileen first.
Before Eileen could even react, a sea of question marks drifted across the bullet comments.
[???]
[What’s going on? We’re just talking about Iris, and Amelia wants to infiltrate them?]
[This plot development really caught me off guard. Why would Amelia suddenly want to infiltrate Iris?]
“Miss Lia, isn’t Iris a criminal syndicate?” Eileen also recalled what Iris represented now.
“Correct, a criminal syndicate.” Amelia said unhurriedly, “Right now, we’re stuck in Rhine City and can’t travel north. This isn’t safe. Who knows if some unforeseen trouble might arrive and bring us problems. At a time like this, finding a way to infiltrate a criminal organization might actually be a good method. They definitely know more information than we do. Once we’re in, we can undoubtedly learn more about the situation and react in time.”
“But Miss Lia, infiltrating a criminal organization can’t be an easy thing,” Eileen expressed her confusion.
“You don’t know this, Eileen. I once accidentally learned the passphrase for Iris. It can get us inside. As it happens, Iris is a very loosely organized criminal syndicate. They only recognize the passphrase, not the person.” Amelia explained with a slight smile.
“So that’s how it is?”
Eileen still felt something was a bit forced, but perhaps her understanding of Your Majesty was insufficient. Maybe she just couldn’t think as far ahead as Your Majesty did.
Amelia’s explanation was directed at the viewers as much as it was at Eileen. For the audience, this explanation was a fairly reasonable one.
Next, Amelia quietly told Eileen the Iris passphrase.
The two stopped in the depths of the alley.
Here, in the corner against the wall, an old newspaper from several months ago was plastered there. It looked torn and ragged. However, this newspaper had a small, barely perceptible barrier placed on it. Once the newspaper was torn, the barrier would be triggered, alerting the organization that someone had arrived.
Amelia promptly walked over and tore the newspaper down.
Now, all they had to do was wait.
The Iris member responsible for Rhine City matters would come. All they had to do then was exchange the passphrase. If it wasn’t an organization member, but just a random person who accidentally tore the newspaper, they would simply put up a fresh newspaper and set up a new barrier.
Amelia didn’t have to wait long. The sound of footsteps soon approached.
It was a woman, tall and full-figured, wearing a black dress. Her long purple hair cascaded loosely over her shoulders. A pair of eyes, the same shade of purple, settled upon Amelia and Eileen, carrying a hint of scrutiny.
The woman drew closer. As if speaking to herself, she murmured: “The valiant griffin fell in love with the goblin.”
“The goblin preferred the dwarf’s gentleness,” Amelia immediately responded.
The woman’s eyes lit up. “The dwarf wished to be the elf’s dog.”
Amelia answered with a smile: “The elf lady gave birth to a half-elf.”
The passphrase was confirmed.
“Welcome to Rhine City.” The woman approached and introduced herself: “I am Beth Bireel.”
“Hello, Ms. Bireel. I am Lucy Coffey, and this is my elder sister, Winnie Coffey,” Amelia said, making up identities for the two of them on the spot.
Hearing this, Eileen was briefly stunned, hardly expecting Amelia to give her the role of an elder sister. But despite her surprise, she controlled her expression well, not letting it change.
“Miss Coffey, Miss Coffey. Do the two of you have a mission in Rhine City? Do you require the organization’s assistance?” Beth asked with a smile.
“Our mission isn’t in Rhine City, but further north. But as you can see, the North City Gate of Rhine City has been sealed by a barrier. We are currently unable to leave,” Amelia replied.
“The barrier won’t be there forever. How about waiting a while longer?”
“That might delay our mission.”
“That’s also true.”
Beth thought for a moment and then smiled. “In that case, would you be willing to help other organization members complete their tasks first? This might help expedite the breaking of the barrier. Furthermore, if you help, you can receive corresponding compensation.”
She issued the invitation directly, without worrying that Amelia and Eileen lacked the strength to help.
Because the prerequisite for joining Iris was to be an Apostle. And as long as one was an Apostle, even a Trainee Apostle, they could provide at least some help.
“What is your mission?” Amelia asked after a moment of thought.
“I can only tell you details like that if you agree to help,” Beth said with a smile.
Although she refused to say it, the bullet comments had already laid it out.
Even if the viewers hadn’t experienced the events of Rhine City during this exact timeframe, they could still deduce a great deal from the later plot. Specifically, the matter of Iris snatching the spoil of war that the Three Great Kingdoms were competing over.
So what the Iris members’ current mission was, it was completely obvious.
“Whether or not you agree, please make your decision quickly. Because we don’t have much time to prepare. Once the powerful Apostles from the Three Great Kingdoms arrive, we won’t be able to complete our mission,” Beth added.
“Since it’s trouble encountered by our companions in the organization, naturally we will help properly.” A smile spread across Amelia’s face. She turned to Eileen beside her and said, “Isn’t that right, Elder Sister?”
The term “Elder Sister” made Eileen briefly zone out for a moment.
But she quickly snapped back to her senses and said, “Of course it is.”
Beth nodded with satisfaction.
She currently had little confidence in the mission the organization was undertaking. After all, there were very few people from the organization stationed in Rhine City.
Once the organization learned the nature of the spoil the three kingdoms were fighting over, they dispatched personnel immediately. But time was too short, and the number of people who could arrive was severely limited.
So having two more people come to help at this moment was, to some degree, a good thing.
As for Beth herself, she hadn’t come to Rhine City because of this specific operation. She was a member of the organization who had been stationed here all along.
“Now, follow me. Let’s go meet the other members of the organization first.”
With that, Beth turned around and walked unhurriedly into the distance.
“Elder Sister, let’s go.” Amelia smiled lightly at Eileen, took her hand, and followed.
Before long, after winding through several streets with Beth, the two arrived in a cold, quiet residential area and entered a courtyard.
