Amelia swept her gaze around and said to Eileen, “Eileen, go ring the doorbell.”
Eileen immediately went to the gate and pressed the bell.
Before long, a middle-aged man wearing a double-breasted black suit arrived at the entrance. He had short brown hair and carried himself with impeccable poise. “This is the Hicks family residence. I am the Butler, Jason Peters. Who might you be, and what is your business here?”
“Mr. Peters,” Amelia stepped forward, raising her right hand to display the sapphire ring on her pinky. “My name is Lily Hicks, from Hale Town. I am here to see Count Hicks.”
Jason did not understand the significance of the ring, but his brow twitched slightly upon hearing the name “Hale Town.”
From what he knew, some time ago, the senile and muddle-headed Mayor of Hale Town had been captured by bandits while out drinking. A coward at heart, he had even disclosed the town’s defenses to the bandits. As a result, the bandits contacted more of their kind, forming a massive force that stormed into Hale Town for a bloody massacre.
It was a significant event for the entire Luban Duchy. Grand Duke Ogden Luban himself had appointed a General to lead troops to Hale Town to suppress the bandits.
In the newspapers these days, the topic’s popularity hadn’t waned.
Moreover, the visitor’s surname had also piqued Jason’s interest.
Lily Hicks?
Her surname was Hicks?
“May I ask what relation you hold with our Lord Count?”
“We are relatives.”
With a refined smile, Amelia carefully explained her relationship with Count Victor Hicks.
They were somewhat distantly related, having to trace back many generations. How else could they be called distant relatives?
After Amelia’s explanation, Butler Jason understood the situation. He promptly said, “Please wait here for a moment, both of you. I will notify the Lord Count immediately.”
Having said this, Jason placed his right hand across his chest, gave a slight bow, and departed.
Amelia fell into thought.
Different nations had different etiquette. These were all called a gentleman’s bow or a lady’s curtsy, but the movements varied.
From the records in the bandits’ books, the real Lily Hicks, though living in a remote corner, had been very ladylike and well-versed in various manners. Because of this, when the bandits found someone to impersonate Lily Hicks, they had put special effort into this aspect.
If Amelia wanted to convincingly pose as Lily, she couldn’t overlook the etiquette.
Fortunately, her predecessor, being a Princess, had studied many forms of etiquette, which naturally included the etiquette of the Luban Duchy. So, this posed little difficulty for Amelia.
Amelia didn’t have to wait long before Butler Jason returned.
He came back following another person, staying one step behind.
The man in front had short, deep blue hair and matching deep blue eyes, dressed in magnificent black attire. An air of nobility emanated from him naturally. This was none other than Victor Hicks, the Count himself!
As Victor approached, his gaze settled on Amelia. “You are Lily Hicks.”
Amelia grasped both sides of her skirt, lifting them slightly as she dipped about an inch, her right foot placed behind her left. She performed a lady’s curtsy in the Luban Duchy style. “It is a pleasure to meet you, Count Hicks. I am indeed Lily Hicks.”
