People of unknown origin always make others uneasy, but the Star Auction House only cared whether a guest had money, not whether they hid their identity. So, everyone glanced over before looking away.
The host beamed a full smile. “This new guest bids 1.1 million Kerr! Do I hear any higher?”
The God of War’s Sword Mindscape Diagram, with a realism level of 30%, was priced around 1 million Kerr. That wasn’t just the starting bid; it was usually the final hammer price. Therefore, when Amelia added another 100,000 Kerr, the entire hall fell silent.
“1.1 million going once, 1.1 million going twice, 1.1 million going three times, sold!”
The host loudly announced the result.
Seeing this, Amelia also breathed a sigh of relief. As long as the bidding didn’t cause any unexpected waves, it was fine.
She hadn’t expected to arrive just as the bidding for the God of War’s Sword Mindscape Diagram was happening. If she had been a step slower, she might have missed it.
“Eileen, this is wonderful. Now you can improve your strength even faster,” Amelia said to Eileen in a low, happy voice.
Eileen’s emotions were somewhat complicated.
Was splurging 1.1 million Kerr for her really worth it? Did she truly deserve a Mindscape Diagram with a realism level reaching as high as 30%?
At that moment, a staff member from the auction house approached them, asking whether they wished to continue participating in the auction or go backstage to complete the transaction first.
Amelia naturally chose to complete the transaction.
She had come specifically for this Mindscape Diagram and had no interest in the remaining items.
After she made her intentions clear, the staff member led Amelia and Eileen to the backstage of the Star Auction House, where other personnel received them.
The transaction process was without incident.
Amelia took out 1.1 million Kerr for the auction house staff to count. Once verified, they handed the God of War’s Sword Mindscape Diagram to Amelia.
It was a yellowed sheet of paper with a crimson sword drawn upon it. It looked incredibly lifelike, giving the impression it was about to fly out of the picture.
With just a single glance, Eileen confirmed that this Mindscape Diagram’s realism level had indeed reached 30%.
Amelia glanced at Eileen, and seeing her nod, put away the Mindscape Diagram.
“The transaction is complete. Let’s go.”
The two gathered their belongings and left the auction house directly.
The night breeze blew gently, stirring up drifting red maple leaves.
Once Amelia and the other reached Moonlight Square, they immediately blended into the crowd, heading back towards the Red Maple District.
However, before they had walked long within the crowd, Eileen drew close to Amelia’s side and whispered, “Miss, we’re being followed.”
Followed?
Amelia narrowed her eyes.
She wasn’t too surprised by this situation. After all, this world never lacked people motivated by greed at the sight of valuables.
“Can you determine their strength? Is it someone we can handle?” Amelia asked quietly in return.
“I’m not entirely sure,” Eileen shook her head.
Couldn’t be sure?
This made Amelia hesitate. If she could be certain, she could choose their course of action based on the pursuer’s strength. But uncertainty made things difficult.
==========
Gale cautiously weaved through the crowd, his gaze locked onto the two figures ahead—females dressed in black robes and masks, completely bundled up.
He wore common adventurer’s leather armor typical of Bild City, with messy brown hair and eyes of the same color.
‘Damn it. Our Beck Adventure Party had already spread the word that we needed that God of War’s Sword Mindscape Diagram. Other factions wouldn’t deliberately clash with us, so why did someone still compete for it?’
‘I wonder what strength these two possess. As a Trainee Apostle, can I make a move directly? Forget it… I better be careful. They are most likely Apostles as well.’
Thus, Gale thought to himself, maintaining a distance that was neither too far nor too close as he continued his pursuit.
==========
【So this is the pursuer? Just one person?】
【Beck Adventure Party? Never heard of them. A new faction appears.】
【This guy is only a Trainee Apostle? And he’s actually thinking about making a move against Amelia and the other? How ridiculous. If you actually attack, you’re done for.】
【In the end, he decided to just track them, wanting to find out their location? That’s more sensible. But Eileen has already noticed this guy. He can’t escape.】
Just as Amelia was pondering what to do, the bullet comments floating before her eyes made her pause. But understanding dawned on her quickly.
It was the camera. The camera had just shifted to the pursuer.
When an anime plays, the screen naturally can’t always stay on the protagonist. It occasionally shifts to a side character, using them to reveal some information to the audience.
Right now, the scene had shifted to the pursuer, even revealing the pursuer’s inner thoughts for the audience to see. The audience then spoke through the bullet comments, and Amelia thus learned the truth.
Once she had confirmed the pursuer’s strength, Amelia felt relieved. “Eileen, let’s find a deserted alley,” she whispered.
“Understood.”
The two had traversed many places in Bild City during the day, familiarizing themselves with most areas. It didn’t take long before they found a dark, secluded alley.
The alley entrance originally had a streetlamp, but it was now broken, flickering with dim, inconsistent light. The alley’s interior consequently appeared extremely eerie.
When Amelia and Eileen entered the alley, a sneaky figure slipped in after them.
“Hmm? Where did they go?”
Shortly after entering the alley, Gale realized he seemed to have lost them. An ominous feeling rose in his heart.
After thinking for a moment, he turned around, intending to leave the area.
“After following us for so long, you think you can just leave whenever you want? Isn’t that a bit inappropriate?”
Gale had just turned around when he found the original path blocked by two figures in black robes. Seeing this, he immediately retreated without hesitation, trying to create distance.
But however fast his reaction was, it couldn’t be faster than Eileen’s.
Eileen stepped forward, lunging, and arrived beside Gale in an instant. Then, her right hand clenched into a fist and slammed directly out, landing heavily square in Gale’s abdomen.
“Ah!”
Gale screamed in agony. A sharp, twisting pain exploded from his abdomen, his entire body doubling over from the blow.
By the time Eileen withdrew her fist and stepped back, Gale had collapsed weakly to the ground, lacking even the strength to stand.
Amelia walked up, looking down at Gale. “Now, I will ask the questions, and you will answer them.”
Gale’s face was pale, but he remained silent.
“First, what is your name?” Amelia asked.
“Gale… Gale Ross,” Sensing the danger he was in, Gale reluctantly answered.
“Where are you from?”
“The Beck Adventure Party.”
Gale gave an honest answer, choosing not to lie.
Because the Beck Adventure Party was a fairly well-known adventure party. In such a situation, Gale felt that only by bringing up the Beck Adventure Party’s reputation could he ensure his own safety. Hiding the truth or making something up would only harm him.
