Dwight had left, but Amelia’s mind remained unsettled.
The information in the bullet comments concerned her greatly.
If Dwight was indeed connected to the Red Moon Society, had he truly come just to thank her for saving Princess Verna? Could he have other motives? After all, she had discovered the people captured by the Red Moon Society and caused their rescue.
“Miss Lily, dinner is ready.” Eileen emerged from the kitchen.
“Let’s eat, then.”
Amelia set aside her worries for the moment and went to the dining room.
During the meal, Amelia also glanced at the Luban Evening Post and the Red Maple Evening Post. Both reported on the resolution of the missing girls’ case, stating that all the missing persons had been found.
Her name, however, was not mentioned. She was simply referred to as a “concerned citizen”—a form of protection, she assumed.
Just as Amelia was reading the newspaper, the doorbell rang.
Another visitor?
“I’ll get it.” Eileen started toward the door.
“No, Eileen, stay here. I’ll answer it.” Amelia stood up hurriedly.
She couldn’t let Eileen open the door, not while she was still under the influence of the curse and unable to interact easily with others.
Hearing Amelia’s words, Eileen stopped in her tracks, her heart sinking.
Because of this strange curse, she couldn’t even do something as simple as answering the door. If her curse remained unresolved for a long time, would she truly be doomed to a life of being cared for?
By now, Amelia had opened the door.
Upon seeing the person standing outside, a look of surprise crossed her face. “It’s you?”
The figure before Amelia was the very same cool-headed girl she had met at the abandoned factory that day. Long, crimson hair was tied into a low ponytail cascading down her back. She wore a beautiful, ornate red dress, exuding an air of innate nobility that made her extraordinary status clear at a single glance.
“Miss Lily, a pleasure to see you.” Verna smiled slightly. “I am Verna Luban, one of the people you saved today. For that matter, I’m immensely grateful.”
“So it’s Princess Verna. Please, come in.” Amelia felt both surprise and a sense of understanding.
She had learned from Dwight that a princess was among those she saved, but she hadn’t known which one. She’d had her suspicions before she even met Verna, as this girl had left a unique impression on her.
Now, hearing Verna’s confirmation, Amelia felt a sense of “I knew it.”
After escorting Verna into the living room, Amelia brewed her a cup of hot tea.
“Does Miss Lily not have a maid to attend to her at home?” Verna asked after taking her seat.
“I did have a maid, but she’s fallen ill, so I’ve let her rest,” Amelia replied with a smile.
“I see.” Verna didn’t dwell on the matter and instead moved to her main concern. “I heard my brother, Dwight, visited you earlier today?”
This was what truly occupied Verna’s mind.
“His Highness Prince Dwight did come by, saying he wished to thank me for saving his sister—that would be you, Your Highness. It seems you and your brother share a very close bond.” Amelia replied with a smile.
Hearing this, Verna’s expression remained somber. Instead, she said, “Actually, my relationship with my brother Dwight is quite poor. We rarely even speak to each other, practically strangers. Him doing this genuinely surprised me.”
“Is that so?”
Amelia paused, her heart simultaneously sinking.
If Dwight and Verna truly had a good relationship, his visit earlier would have made perfect sense.
But if their relationship was bad, why had he come?
The possibility raised by the viewers once again surfaced in Amelia’s mind, giving her an ominous feeling.
The viewers, too, immediately erupted into discussion, clearly sensing something was amiss.
[Dwight and Verna barely get along. He has absolutely no reason to come thank her in person. He’s suspicious!]
[He probably really is connected to the Red Moon Society.]
[Looking at it this way, in the original plot, when First Prince Vincent killed Dwight, what he said might not have been a false accusation after all?]
[If Dwight is connected to the Red Moon Society, it’s perfectly natural for Amelia to catch their attention since she discovered the people they captured.]
[This Dwight might even know that Amelia’s residence was once rented by Red Moon Society members.]
If Dwight was linked to the Red Moon Society, that was undeniably bad news for Amelia. Especially since he had already found a reason to visit—he was definitely watching her. This was a very dangerous sign.
As thoughts swirled rapidly in Amelia’s mind, Verna continued, “My birth mother died early. My other siblings and I all have different mothers, so naturally, our relationships are quite shallow. Dwight coming to find you must have another reason. How about we investigate his motives together? After all, those motives might be detrimental to you.”
“Surely it wouldn’t come to that? I’ve only just arrived in Bild City recently. Why would Prince Dwight fixate on me?”
Although Amelia was internally wary of Dwight, she wouldn’t show it. Instead, Verna’s words left her somewhat puzzled. Just what was this princess thinking?
“Many things can seem inexplicable, their origins hard to trace. But they still require our attention. A single oversight could invite trouble.” Verna spoke in a cryptic tone.
“Does Your Highness dislike Prince Dwight?” Amelia asked, catching her drift.
“I dislike all my siblings.” Verna’s reply was blunt and decisive.
This stark coldness toward her own brothers and sisters made Amelia feel she was understanding Verna even less.
“I’ll say it again.” Verna looked deeply into Amelia’s eyes. “It’s necessary for us to cooperate and help each other. This will only benefit us both, Amelia.”
” What you’re saying… Hm?”
Amelia had been about to fob her off with a polite remark, but mid-sentence, something felt wrong. Her gaze instantly locked sharply onto Verna.
What had Verna just said?
Did she just call her Amelia?
“The glaring eyes in the shadows are truly fierce… Miss Amelia, tell your people to calm down. I mean no harm,” Verna added, unhurriedly.
Although Eileen hadn’t appeared, she had been observing from the shadows all along. The moment she heard Verna address Amelia by name, she immediately went on alert. Should Amelia give the order, she would not hesitate to strike Verna down!
