Chapter 65: Waiting for You

Before Gu Yu arrived, Jiang Bomu had been searching Weibo for news of her National Day performance.

She’d assumed the university’s official account would quickly post all the performances, but she hadn’t expected that account to be practically a zombie account, only stirring back to life once every half a month.

She could only refresh the real-time search results every few minutes, which also yielded no useful information.

Jiang Bomu was a bit puzzled. Did college students just not like using Weibo anymore?

She was just about to download Douyin when Tao Tao sent a WeChat message saying she had something to give her. Unaware of anything, she got up to open the door, never imagining that the person outside would be Gu Yu.

A gigantic wave of surprise overwhelmed her, leaving her unable to react. She stared blankly at the other person, briefly thinking she was dreaming.

Gu Yu’s enthusiasm waned. The sexy pose and flirty line she’d painstakingly thought up, and Jiang Bomu had absolutely no reaction whatsoever!

“Forget it,” Gu Yu made a move to leave. “Looks like someone isn’t very happy to see me.”

Her wrist was tightly grasped by soft fingertips, the pulse beneath beating faster. Only by holding her hand in a fist could she stop herself from instinctively holding Jiang Bomu’s hand in return.

Another half month of separation. Longing had turned into a vast, flat plain; even a single tiny spark could ignite a prairie fire, dyeing the jade sky twilight, intertwined like a painting.

“Don’t go,” Jiang Bomu pleaded softly. “Xunxun, I was just too surprised.”

“Then do you know what I just said, what pose I struck?” Gu Yu shook off her hand with tremendous self-control and crossed her arms, looking at her. “Repeat it back, and I won’t leave.”

Jiang Bomu had been too busy just staring at her face to notice anything else. She was about to shake her head when a brilliant idea came to her: “Come inside and teach me.”

Get her inside first, then figure out the rest.

Gu Yu blinked slowly and let herself be led by the hand into the room. Would she really not regret this?

As soon as the door closed, Jiang Bomu immediately turned around and pulled Gu Yu into her arms.

“Why did you suddenly come find me?” She kissed the tip of Gu Yu’s ear. “Didn’t you say you were going on a trip with your roommates?”

So she had been tricked. Yet Jiang Bomu didn’t feel sad; instead, she was utterly overjoyed.

Sandwiched between the door and Jiang Bomu, half icy cold and half blazing hot, the tingling sensation from her ear nearly made Gu Yu unable to process what Jiang Bomu was saying. It took a moment for the words to register.

She couldn’t help teasing her, making up a story on the spot: “I am going on a trip. It’s just the train ticket is for tomorrow night. So I came to see you first today.”

Jiang Bomu froze. Her eyes lowered, long lashes casting a faint shadow over those bright eyes.

“You have to leave tomorrow?” Jiang Bomu bit her lip and pleaded, “Stay just one more day, please?”

The earlier surprise seemed to turn to nothing. At the thought that Gu Yu might be gone the moment she woke up tomorrow, Jiang Bomu felt a stab of pain and held her even tighter.

“No can do,” Gu Yu said self-righteously. “I already made plans with them. Can’t go back on my word.”

Then she comforted her: “I can still spend tonight with you. You want to waste this wonderful time on trivial things?”

Even though she was unwilling, Jiang Bomu didn’t say anything more to make her stay. She knew she had no right to ask Gu Yu to ditch her roommates for her. Just seeing Gu Yu once was already very good; she couldn’t be too greedy.

She straightened up and forced a smile. “Alright, tonight is enough.”

Just then, Gu Yu also looked up at her. Their gazes tangled, breath hot as fire.

Gu Yu reached out, her fingertip gently tracing Jiang Bomu’s jawline. She sighed lowly, “You seem to have gotten even thinner.”

It tickled unbearably. Jiang Bomu caught her mischievous hand and placed it on her own waist, answering softly, “The places that should be plump… haven’t lost a single ounce of flesh.”

Her words were swallowed between lips and teeth. Gu Yu thoroughly verified the claim, confirming it was indeed true.

When the lingering kiss finally ended, both their faces were burning hot. Yet, as if still not close enough, they pressed their cheeks together, sharing breaths, punctuated by occasional light pecks, the flutter spreading.

“Sister,” Gu Yu’s hands wandered aimlessly, her voice muffled, “one more kiss?”

Jiang Bomu didn’t quite approve. Thinking of Gu Yu’s health, she immediately rejected the proposal and restrained herself. “No, you need to wash up.”

Being busy yesterday, rushing around today, and having to travel again tomorrow—her body would definitely not be able to take it.

“I spent so long putting on this makeup,” Gu Yu kept leaning closer, acting cute to make Jiang Bomu look closely. “Isn’t it shimmery? Doesn’t it look like an idol’s stage makeup?”

“It looks beautiful.” Jiang Bomu rewarded her with a kiss. “Now go take it off.”

Hmph, so perfunctory.

Gu Yu was dissatisfied now and pouted. “You still haven’t done the move yet.”

Only then did Jiang Bomu remember the request she’d casually agreed to when coaxing Gu Yu inside. “What move?” she asked.

Gu Yu pulled her in front of the full-length mirror and earnestly taught the key points of the pose: “Left hand up, right hand on your hip, hip out…”

After teaching for a bit, Gu Yu fell silent.

Someone who was a work of art just standing there turned stiff as a robot—stiffer than a robot—the moment they tried to do a pose.

“No wonder you’ve only ever sung and never danced at the New Year’s Gala since your debut,” Gu Yu grumbled. “If you danced, half your fans would run away.”

Jiang Bomu was still holding the pose as instructed. She studied her reflection in the mirror with a blank look, then silently turned her face away. It truly had no aesthetic appeal whatsoever.

Since she had no talent for this, Gu Yu didn’t press her. She held up her phone, grinning. “You’ll definitely nail the line. Read this out loud with passion and emotion.”

Jiang Bomu glanced at her phone. Just one look, and a crimson blush flew across her cheeks. She said softly, “That’s not what you said earlier. Otherwise, I definitely would have remembered.”

In seven years since her debut, even when playing a courtesan belle, she had never uttered a line like that. If Gu Yu had said it, she would have heard it for sure.

“If you won’t say it, fine,” Gu Yu didn’t argue, drawling her words, “I’ll just reschedule my ticket right now.”

“Don’t!”

Jiang Bomu stammered for a moment, then, her face red, said the words: “Miss, beautiful lady…”

Gu Yu crossed her arms watching her, like a strict teacher, and spat out two solemn words: “Continue.”

In their current stance—one standing, one sitting—Jiang Bomu lifted her face, glanced at her stiffly, started to speak, then hesitated, and finally after a long pause said, “I forgot the rest.”

She truly couldn’t say it out loud.

“So inattentive,” Gu Yu glanced at her nonchalantly and asked softly, “How should I punish you then?”

Jiang Bomu barely dared to meet her eyes, looking down as she watched Gu Yu slowly close in. She bit her lip, stiffened her resolve, pulled Gu Yu by the waist, and tumbled onto the soft, large bed.

“Beautiful Teacher Xunxun,” she flipped over, lifting Gu Yu’s chin, her breath like orchids, “do you need some… special services?”

Jiang Bomu was wearing a nightgown. The belt, tied perfectly proper when they first met, had somehow become loose and unruly, the garment slipping down to reveal a smooth, slender shoulder hinting at allure. The red flush extending to her collarbone proved just how shy she really was.

Gu Yu didn’t expose her, playing along with a teasing smile: “What services are available?”

In a flash, a string of inappropriate thoughts ran through Jiang Bomu’s mind. She forced them to a halt and answered primly, “Heart-to-heart talk, head massage, and hand massage.”

“Such a formal, standard establishment? I’ll pass,” Gu Yu propped herself up on her arms to rise. “Bori…”

The “-ing” was swallowed between lips and teeth, only a few ambiguous, breathy moans spilling out.

Just as Gu Yu was kissing with total abandon, she sensed Jiang Bomu pulling back and immediately leaned forward, yet they still separated.

Foreheads pressed together, Jiang Bomu asked lazily, “Is kissing interesting enough?”

“It’s alright.” Gu Yu gave her a fierce kiss. “I’ll wash up first. Service later.”

Jiang Bomu flopped lazily onto the bed, lying on her side watching her, legs crossed, left knee bent. Her soft, beautiful silhouette was half-hidden, half-revealed in the black nightgown. “Waiting for you,” she said, her red lips parting lightly.

Like a black mandrake—mysterious, bewitching.

Gu Yu gazed at her for a moment, then subconsciously touched her own nose. This was a million times s.e.x.ier than the pose she’d tried to teach.

After washing up, Jiang Bomu had already slipped under the covers. An open script lay on top of the blanket, but she was half-reclined, playing on her phone.

Curious, Gu Yu leaned over for a look, thinking she was handling some important work matter. To her surprise, Jiang Bomu was intently playing Xiaoxiaole.

Gu Yu: “…Why aren’t you reading the script but playing Xiaoxiaole instead?”

“The moment I think about you being here, I can’t focus on the script.”

Even while saying sweet things, Jiang Bomu’s eyes were fixed on her phone, brows furrowed in deep concentration.

Gu Yu laughed despite herself. She never imagined Jiang Bomu would actually play games. Pouring out some toner, she asked, “What level are you on?”

“Over a thousand.”

“How long have you been playing?”

“About two years I guess. Ah!” Jiang Bomu cried out in frustration. “Failed again!”

Two years and only just over a thousand levels? Gu Yu shook her head in amusement. After finishing her skincare routine, she leaned over to guide her, smoothly beating the level in five minutes.

Jiang Bomu immediately looked at her with an expression of pure admiration. “I was stuck on that one for a whole week!”

“Clumsy sister.” Gu Yu affectionately tapped her nose, then asked, “But how come I never saw you playing during the summer?”

“I didn’t want you to know back then,” Jiang Bomu pursed her lips slightly, explaining. “Even Tao Tao doesn’t know I play this.”

“And why let me know now?”

“Because I like you.” Jiang Bomu wrapped her arms around her neck and said seriously, “Another reason is, I hoped that after seeing the real Jiang Bomu, you would still like her.”

Gu Yu blinked, utterly baffled. “You thought I’d stop liking you just because you play games?”

Jiang Bomu answered without hesitation. “It’s a possibility. The things people like or dislike can be odd and random sometimes.”

“But to me, this is a bonus,” Gu Yu laughed and hugged her tight. “Have you heard of the ‘gap moe’? It’s you.”

On the surface, the aloof, untouchable Best Actress, unruffled even if Mount Tai crumbled before her, yet in private, a little noob who loved playing Xiaoxiaole—frustrated when she failed a level, full of admiration when you helped her pass it. Who wouldn’t be utterly charmed?

The more Gu Yu thought about it, the softer her heart became, and she couldn’t help planting several kisses on her.

“You don’t need to worry. I will always, always like you.”

Without almost any hesitation, Gu Yu laid her sincere heart before her.

“I fell for you the year I turned sixteen.”

“That day, I wanted to strike up a conversation with you, but a single indifferent glance from you sent my heart into chaos. I fled in panic, and yet my feelings grew along with it, taking four years to grow into a towering tree, blooming with flowers over the summer. As long as you come close to me, you can smell their fragrance.”

Under Jiang Bomu’s astonished and delighted gaze, Gu Yu kissed her lips, sighing deeply. “Sister, I love you far more than you could ever imagine.”

By chance, Gu Yu ended up living together with the Best Actress, Jiang Bomu.

Faced with the person she'd secretly loved for years, Gu Yu couldn't remain indifferent.

So today she gave her flowers, tomorrow a personally painted picture, and the day after, learning she had insomnia, offered free sleep-coaxing services.

Jiang Bomu accepted it all, but aside from necessary communication, the other party never truly opened her heart to her.

Gu Yu had an epiphany: Jiang Bomu was just like her name, something visible but unreachable.

How could one expect a person so far away to descend to the earthly realm?

She steeled herself, ready to leave.

She never expected that late at night, she would hear a regular knocking at the door.

Opening it, the woman with an exquisite figure raised her eyes in response, her voice cool and clear: "I can't sleep. Does what you said that day still hold true?"

Evening, lingering clouds forming splendid patterns.

Sixteen-year-old Gu Yu agonized over how to greet the big star whose every gesture radiated elegance and brilliance.

Just sitting there quietly, she was a richly colored oil painting.

Summoning her courage to approach, just as she drew near, a casual glance from the other made her heart flutter chaotically, and she fled in panic.

Gu Yu thought the other hadn't seen her, not knowing that behind her, the big star's lips curved into a radiant, dazzling smile.

That was the first time Gu Yu's heart stirred.

That was the first time in two years Jiang Bomu had shown a truly genuine smile.
