Over the past few days, while repairing Prima’s body, Wang Yue had been purchasing high-end experimental instruments and specialized building materials. Her eighty million Merits were almost gone, entirely sunk into the lab’s construction.
However, the architecture of supernatural power in this world was mature and stable. These instruments wouldn’t be rendered obsolete by new models anytime soon, making them a solid long-term investment.
Inside the test tube, a clump of gray Life-fibers vibrated and coiled. As she leaned in closer, she soon noticed the anomaly.
the gray color wasn’t the fiber’s natural hue; it was a visual effect caused by a chaotic mix. It was a tangle of fibers in different colors—at least several hundred different color codes. It was useless for weaving a human body.
Wang Yue reached for a test tube containing dark green fibers. She had obtained these by deconstructing insects. She put it back and picked up a tube of light blue fibers, which she had extracted from fish.
Her gaze returned to Pandora’s multicolored fibers. She frowned. “What exactly are you?”
These multicolored fibers felt strangely familiar.
She remembered something and pulled a Sealing Box from a display shelf, placing it on the workbench.
She removed the Wedge Pillars and opened the four sides, revealing a glass jar reinforced with metal. The jar was locked tight with alloy caps and steel pillars. Inside was a mass of muddy-gray substance that looked like rotting meat.
This was what she had obtained by decomposing a Shoggoth. According to her deductions, it was likely cellular tissue from the Source of All Things, Ubbo-Sathla.
It had originally been stuck to the Star Stone Tablet before Dagon removed it to create Shoggoths for the construction of the underground complexes.
Although Ubbo-Sathla was an Outer God, its body was the Protoplasm of the origin of life. For now, it showed no signs of pollution.
Wang Yue’s fingers elongated into illusory, transparent cones. She channeled her Primal Rule to attempt a deconstruction of the Outer God’s cells. However, the cells displayed a powerful inertia, completely ignoring the Power of Rules.
She tried several times, but the result was always the same.
Wang Yue’s mind raced. The Primal Rule she had obtained from the Rebirth Center’s Control Console was merely a fragment of what Dagon had gleaned from the Star Stone Tablet in his early days. That tablet undoubtedly held the ultimate Truth of life’s origin.
A ‘Rule’ was merely a part of ‘Truth’—or perhaps, a crude and low-level application of it.
She stopped her work, and the image of the massive stone tablet, known as the Key of the Elder Gods, rose in her mind.
Suddenly, Wang Yue felt a surge of loathing for her current life.
Humans were so small. So mediocre. So ignorant. The animalistic pursuits of food, sex, safety, and comfort they spent their lives chasing… were all meaningless.
Because they were so weak—fragile as a single reed—their primary task was survival. They chased a higher quality of life and personal safety, a pursuit that was as pathetic as it was necessary. Compared to the laws of the universe, natural Truths, endless secrets, dimensions, and time… those things were beneath mention.
She gasped and recoiled, her hands trembling violently. A sudden urge seized her to abandon everything, to flee the mortal world and sit before that stone tablet. She wanted to face the Truth directly, like retreating into a silent, empty library to wander through an ocean of knowledge…
Wang Yue’s pupils dilated. Her soul shuddered with an uncontrollable, overwhelming sensation.
As she stumbled backward, she fell into a warm embrace. Medeili’s voice drifted into her ear.
“What’s wrong, Yue?”
Wang Yue didn’t speak. Her mental emptiness made it impossible to focus; she was drowning in a nihilistic dissolution of the self.
“Is it like last time? It hurts, doesn’t it? It’s okay. I’ll help you.”
Amidst the rustle of clothes, a young girl’s fragrance wafted past her nose. Her body began to sink, as if she were being laid down.
Soon, her head rested on an exceptionally soft and springy support. Her face was buried against a soft belly, and the comfort was so profound she almost let out a moan.
Fingers gently kneaded her temples, accompanied by the faint sound of a soothing hum.
Once she felt a bit better, her head was gently straightened, and a cold towel was placed on her forehead, pulling her scattered thoughts back together.
Wang Yue’s eyes cleared. She realized she was enjoying Plum’s lap pillow. Looking up, she saw the orange-haired girl’s smooth forehead and delicate features framed by hanging locks of hair. Wang Yue sat up, the towel sliding off. She turned and gripped Plum’s slender shoulders, her fingers tightening. Human desires were surging back within her. Medeili tilted her chin up, her lips slightly parted as she proactively offered herself. Her lips glistened with a crystalline sheen, but her eyes shyly looked away, a blush of anticipation blooming on her cheeks. Wang Yue kissed Plum’s lips, savoring their softness and warmth. Her thumb stroked Plum’s collarbone and the hollow of her shoulder. She felt the delicate, shy trembling beneath her palm. She thought silently: Being human… is wonderful.ful.*
