Shen Ke looked at Feng Jian.
Feng Jian’s skin was pale, the corners of her eyes reddened, and she looked utterly broken as tears streamed down her face.
Though her features resembled Shen Yi’s, Feng Jian’s lacked that cold edge and held a touch more delicacy.
Her pitch-black pupils made her look like a soulless doll.
Shen Ke bit her lower lip, her beautiful cat-like eyes blazing with fury. “So what if you like me! Ever since you showed up, my life’s turned into a complete mess!”
“Do you know how people at school cursed me out the moment the truth came out?!”
“Do you know where I’ve been living these past few days?!”
“You don’t know anything! What right do you have to like me!”
As she spoke, Shen Ke’s nose began to sting.
This was her first world. To help her adapt, the System had placed her here from the age of one, using acceleration in between.
Her memories were blurry, so she didn’t have much attachment to the Shen Family. But her time in the Shen Family had truly been good.
No one dared defy her when she did bad things. She could buy whatever she wanted and lived in a villa waited on by servants hand and foot.
When she wanted to chase someone, all it took was a crook of her finger, and they’d come running.
The Shen Family’s Third Miss—how many people wanted to curry favor with her.
But Feng Jian’s appearance had sent her plummeting from the clouds. The fall was too great, and Shen Ke resented her the most.
“Feng Jian! I don’t want your like!”
She should have been furious, roaring and beating Feng Jian senseless. But toward the end, an unstoppable wave of grievance welled up, and tears poured down her face. “What’s the use of your like? Can it turn me back into the Eldest Miss?” Her voice softened, sounding utterly pitiful.
Feng Jian listened in a daze, her heart aching in waves.
“Shen Ke, I’m sorry.”
Shen Ke turned her head away, not wanting Feng Jian to see the sadness on her face. “If sorry worked, what would we need police for?”
Feng Jian clenched her palms tightly, her voice hoarse and terrifying. “Shen Ke, wait for me.”
“I’ll take the Shen Family.”
“And offer it to you.”
She just wanted to make Shen Ke happy. She craved power, and she would present that power to her goddess.
She had desires, she felt jealousy, she went mad.
But all those negative emotions vanished the moment she saw Shen Ke’s tears.
Feng Jian bowed her body and pressed a kiss to Shen Ke’s slippers. From start to finish, her posture was as low as it could go.
Shen Ke caught the action in her peripheral vision and shuddered violently. “W-what are you doing!”
Feng Jian lifted her head, the love in her eyes so scorching that Shen Ke clutched at the front of her clothes. She could feel how genuine that love was.
Feng Jian said softly, “I love you, my—” goddess.
The last two words vanished between her lips, unheard by Shen Ke. But she heard “I love you,” and her heart skipped hard.
Shen Ke’s lashes trembled as she curled her lips into a wicked smile. “How disgusting! Get out of here!” With that, Shen Ke strode away.
In the bathroom, Shen Ke burst into tears with a wail.
“Stupid Feng Jian! Why’d you have to say you like me! I hate you so much!”
The bathroom was huge with excellent soundproofing, so Shen Ke wasn’t worried about being heard.
[I told you not to be too soft-hearted.]
The System’s electronic voice suddenly rang out. Shen Ke sniffled. [I’m not being soft-hearted!]
The System had just arrived, but with its privileges, it reviewed what had happened.
Without much thought, it guessed Tasker 56417’s mental shift.
Because someone truly liked her, she started avoiding it.
Even if her words were harsh, her act of running away showed she just didn’t want to face it.
Tasker 56417 was too kind.
But it hadn’t expected the protagonist of this novice world to like women.
[However, she said she’d give you the Shen Family. That means the protagonist is working hard.]
[Tasker 56417, you won’t have long to wait before completing the task and leaving this world.]
Shen Ke wiped her tears. [I hope that’s true.]
The System had only stopped by briefly. Seeing that Tasker 56417 wasn’t mad at it anymore, it said: [It will be.]
After a few words, it had to head to another tasker’s world. Before leaving, it added: [Don’t be sad over people in a small world. They’re just fake.]
Shen Ke muttered under her breath, “They’re not fake.” Everyone she’d met felt unbelievably real to her.
But the System was already gone, so there was no reply.
Shen Ke grabbed a bath puff and flung it away in frustration. Though she was bad, when it came to someone who truly liked her…
Even if she hated that person, she didn’t want to trample their feelings.
“Feng Jian is so annoying!”
“Sister, I’m so hot.”
Shen Yu narrowed her eyes at Shen Ke, who sat on her bed in a sailor uniform.
Shen Ke’s pretty face was flushed, making her look especially alluring.
Shen Yu walked over and stopped in front of Shen Ke.
Shen Ke blinked her moist cat-like eyes and reached out, wrapping around her like a snake, forcing Shen Yu’s waist to bend.
With her palms braced on the bed’s edge, Shen Yu stared at the face before her—innocent yet seductive—and curled her lips. “Shen Ke, if you’re hot, take off your clothes.”
Shen Ke pouted her red lips and planted a kiss on Shen Yu’s face. “Sister, help me take off the sailor uniform, okay?”
Her sweet, cloying coquetry melted in the ears and heart.
Shen Yu smiled and pressed Shen Ke onto the bed. In an instant, their clothes vanished without a trace.
Shen Yu straightened up and gazed at the naked Shen Ke, her eyes narrowing.
Shen Ke propped herself up on her elbows, her upper body raised, red lips gasping continuously.
“Sister, come play with me—”
Ding!
Shen Yu’s eyes snapped open as she sat up in bed.
Another dream.
A dream about Shen Ke.
The Shen Ke in the dream was wildly wanton.
She drew her close, guiding her hand fast or slow.
They indulged in the bathroom, on the bed, by the window, in the garden.
She kissed every one of Shen Ke’s lips until they swelled.
Recalling those scenes made Shen Yu’s head throb. It had been so long since such dreams, but one not-quite-kiss yesterday had reignited them.
She was going crazy, parched to this extent.
Shen Yu went into the bathroom, stripped off her sticky clothes and pants, and took a cold shower without hesitation.
Downstairs, she saw a crowd swarming around Shen Ke, taking her measurements and chattering noisily.
An inexplicable irritability surged in Shen Yu. She went to Shen Mother and asked softly, “Mama, it’s just an engagement banquet. Does it need to be such a big deal?”
Shen Mother glanced at her and said flatly, “Little Yu, what’s wrong? You’re the one who said that even for an engagement banquet, we have to do it the best and not lose face for the Shen Family.”
Shen Yu: …
“Mama’s right. I have training today, so I’ll head out first.”
As Shen Yu left, she glanced at Shen Ke and met her big eyes. Shen Ke smiled sweetly at her.
Shen Yu’s heart trembled inexplicably.
What was that? Didn’t she hate her? Why smile like that?
Shen Yu looked away, her inexplicable irritability swelling in her chest.
HT Racing Club.
“Wow, Sister Yu’s driving so aggressively today. Not holding back at all.”
“Yeah, she usually lets us off during training.”
“Damn, that turn! She pulled way ahead of Wang Su’s car!”
“Is Sister Yu mad? Her expression wasn’t great when she arrived. She usually smiles, but her low pressure when angry is too obvious.”
And in distant M Country.
“Shen, you’re truly bold. I admire you greatly.” The blonde, blue-eyed young woman praised Shen Yi in broken Chinese.
“You’re too kind, Temiri.” Shen Yi withdrew her hand from the shake and nodded slightly. “It’s been a pleasure working with you.”
Temiri smiled. “By the way, my husband heard something in Z Country yesterday.”
“Your sister is getting engaged.”
Shen Yi lowered her eyes and gazed idly out the window. “Mm.” The Shen Family hadn’t told her, so it was probably Shen Yu. But she didn’t care about Shen Yu’s affairs.
“Shen, your sister is so cute. Oh, totally different from you. She’s like a noble little cat.”
“We’ve worked together so long, and you didn’t tell me your sister is getting married the day after tomorrow? Not cool.” Temiri teased.
Shen Yi turned her head stiffly, her voice hoarse and frightening. “Can you show me the news about my sister’s engagement?”
Temiri nodded. “Of course.” She opened her phone and showed Shen Yi the screenshot her husband had sent. “Your sister’s fiancée is the same sex. I thought Z Country was conservative about that, but—”
Shen Yi lowered her long lashes and said softly, “Temiri, I might not make the party tomorrow.”
Temiri swallowed. “N-no problem.”
Even after Shen Yi left, Temiri stood stunned for a moment. Her secretary called her, and she patted her chest in fright. “Nalin, did you see? Shen’s expression was terrifying. I felt like she was going to kill me. Oh God, never make Shen mad again.”
The secretary patted her boss’s shoulder. “I can’t understand Chinese.”
A blazing white crystal chandelier hung high from the ceiling. The opulent, retro estate blazed with lights.
Shen Mother stood on stage with a microphone, a rare smile on her face. “Welcome, everyone, to my daughter Shen Ke’s engagement banquet—”
But no one paid attention to what Shen Mother said. All eyes were on Shen Ke and Yue Lingqing on stage.
Shen Ke wore a pure white gown with light makeup. She held onto Yue Lingqing, who wore a dress in the same color palette, smiling sweetly.
The white dress made Shen Ke look pristine and unattainable, but her cute smile made everyone sincerely think she was happy.
The same white on Yue Lingqing inspired awe, like a towering snow-capped mountain, cold and forbidding. Yet her occasional glances at Shen Ke were so gentle.
Shen Ke clung closely to Yue Lingqing’s arm, and from below, they looked impossibly well-matched.
“I thought the fake young lady was forced into it, but she really seems to like that Yue Family one.”
“No way, I thought girls together was weird, but now it looks perfect. Thanks Dad for bringing me.”
“They match so well. Shen Ke used to strut around with her nose in the air, so annoying. Turns out she’s this pretty.”
The voices around were loud, one after another reaching Shen Yu’s ears.
Shen Yu sat on the sofa, expressionless, continuously downing drinks.
The bitter alcohol slid down her throat into her stomach, bringing a sense of fullness.
“What a nauseating sight.”
Up on the second floor, Feng Jian stared fixedly below. Her already pale face turned ashen.
The scene was far more stinging than imagined, leaving her breathless.
The engagement banquet was more exhausting than expected.
After being dragged around to toast, Shen Ke’s legs went soft from fatigue.
She leaned into Yue Lingqing and whispered in her ear, “I don’t want to go anymore. So tired.”
Yue Lingqing’s voice was gentleness itself. “Then go upstairs and rest first, Baby.” Once tonight ended, Shen Ke would be her fiancée. Just thinking about it made her thrilled to death.
Shen Ke nodded and released Yue Lingqing, heading to a quieter spot.
As she walked, she spotted a server holding a glass of orange juice.
Shen Ke called out immediately, “You with the orange juice, stop right there.”
The server froze, then slowly turned. His clear-featured face was filled with tension and guilt. “Uh, is there something wrong?”
Shen Ke approached, took the orange juice, and drank a big gulp.
“Ah, that—”
Shen Ke glanced at the server and put the juice back. “What?”
That pretty, clear cat-like eye glance turned the server’s ears bright red. He lowered his head. “N-nothing.”
The server returned to his station, where a coworker nudged his arm.
“Hey, did it work?”
The server sighed and shook his head. “No.”
Shen Ke finished the orange juice and headed upstairs.
The engagement banquet was held at the manor owned by the Shen Family, and the second floor consisted of guest rooms.
When Shen Ke arrived on the second floor, her wrist was suddenly gripped by someone, and her whole body was pinned against the wall.
Shen Ke frowned as she looked at the person, her tone very impolite. “Shen Yu, what the hell are you doing!”
