Chapter 31: The Fool Who Abandons Her Wife and Child in the Apocalypse (Part 1)

Half a year ago, a black rain suddenly fell from the sky. Those who got drenched in it developed high fevers that night. Some woke up with supernatural abilities, while others turned into zombies. Thus, the apocalypse arrived.

“Damn it! The door won’t hold!”

“Wahhh, Mama, I want Mama!”

“Help! Somebody help us!”

The dilapidated warehouse was filled with chaotic voices—curses and pleas echoing everywhere.

The gate was suddenly smashed open, and a horde of gray-skinned, rotting-faced zombies rushed in.

“Aaah! Someone save us!”

Not far away, atop an armored vehicle, Shen Ke held binoculars as she watched the zombie-sieged warehouse. Her red lips parted and closed. “Zhao Qi, the zombies have broken through. We shouldn’t bother saving them.”

The woman called Zhao Qi slapped Shen Ke’s back. “Fuck, Shen Ke, how many times have I told you? Say that shit again and I’ll kick you out of the team.”

Zhao Qi’s palm was large and her strength immense. The sudden smack on the back made Shen Ke cry out in pain.

“Zhao Qi, take it easy! That really hurt.”

Her voice wasn’t loud, carrying a hint of coquettishness.

Zhao Qi tsked. “Quit acting slutty. Grab your gear, quick!”

Shen Ke sluggishly picked up her gun, while Zhao Qi had already charged ahead.

Just a few zombies—what was there to panic about? Dead was dead. Anyone hiding in a place like this clearly had no value anyway.

By the time Shen Ke arrived, the zombies had been cleared, leaving only patches of charred ash.

Zhao Qi had burned them with her supernatural ability.

Seeing Shen Ke approach, Zhao Qi grabbed her collar, veins bulging on her forehead. “Shen Ke, no food for you today!”

Shen Ke furrowed her brows, displeasure clear on her fair face. “Why not? I came out with you guys!”

“Zhao Qi, you’re just the acting captain. You have no right to deny me food.”

Her collar tugged tight around her neck, feeling uncomfortable. Shen Ke patted Zhao Qi’s arm behind her. “Let go!”

Zhao Qi took a deep breath. Facing a deadbeat like Shen Ke made it hard for her to control her temper. She still didn’t understand why her big sis kept a lazy good-for-nothing like this on the team.

All because of a pretty face and a slutty personality—moaning at the slightest touch.

As Zhao Qi’s expression darkened, someone stepped in to mediate. “Zhao-jie, ignore her for now. Let’s get these people back to base first.”

Zhao Qi released Shen Ke and clapped her hands, turning to the people crouched on the ground. “Load up anyone not bitten. Kill the rest.”

Shen Ke pursed her lips and muttered, “Fake kindness. Better not to save them at all.” As soon as she spoke, Zhao Qi shot her a death glare.

Shen Ke huffed coldly and walked up to the newly rescued group, arms crossed. “Hey, we just saved your asses. Got nothing for us?” She was blatantly demanding payment.

Shen Ke was beautiful, with a soft voice and fair, moist skin that stood out in the dingy surroundings.

Someone stared blankly before tremulously pulling a pack of compressed biscuits from their pocket. “Th-this is my last food.”

Shen Ke glanced over and wrinkled her nose in disdain. “No thanks. Anyone else?” Her brows held arrogance, eyes upturned at the corners, looking particularly charming when peering down.

In the apocalypse, food was paramount, yet Shen Ke demanded it from them as if it were her due.

After all, her team had saved them. Payment was only right.

Seeing them freeze and stare, Shen Ke puffed her cheeks. Her dark pupils turned into pale blue vertical slits, and two fluffy white cat ears sprouted from her head.

Shen Ke bared her teeth, her sharp little fangs elongating. She wrinkled her nose and snarled fiercely, “Hey! See this? I’m an ability user! You do what I say! Hand over your food now!”

Zhao Qi noticed the commotion and called to a teammate, pointing at Shen Ke. “A Si, get this stupid bastard out of here.”

The one called A Si acknowledged and walked over, grabbing Shen Ke’s arm. In the next instant, they vanished from the spot.

Shen Ke realized they were in the open area outside. Unhappy, she shook off A Si’s hand. “What the hell? I didn’t get any food yet.”

A Si adjusted her glasses. “We’re a proper ability user squad, not bandits.”

A Si pulled a pack of fish jerky from her pocket and handed it to Shen Ke. “Don’t make trouble. Zhao Qi isn’t as gentle as Big Sis.”

Shen Ke’s cat ears twitched. “Hmph, I’m not scared of her. I’m an ability user too.”

A Si chuckled. “You pop out ears and a tail—what else besides being cute?”

“Zhao Qi could burn all that pretty fur of yours to ash with one burst of fire.”

Shen Ke pouted and tore open the bag, chomping a piece of fish jerky in her mouth. “If I fully beast transform, I could smack a zombie into paste with one paw.”

A Si sighed. “Anyway, don’t piss off Zhao Qi. Wait for Big Sis to get back.”

Today’s rescue mission was complete.

The armored vehicles headed back to base.

When distributing food at base, Shen Ke got none.

She furiously confronted Zhao Qi. “Where’s mine?!”

Zhao Qi sneered. “You didn’t help at all today and you have the nerve to ask for food?”

That made Shen Ke’s eyes blaze red with anger. She grabbed at the share in Zhao Qi’s hand. “I don’t care! I want food!”

Zhao Qi frowned, a spark of flame igniting at her fingertip before flicking onto the back of Shen Ke’s hand. “Let go. Want food? Earn points and buy it yourself.”

Shen Ke yelped from the burn and quickly released her grip, looking at the reddened spot on her hand.

She whimpered, eyes glistening prettily enough to stir the heart.

A teammate spoke up. “Shen Ke, you really didn’t do shit today. Zhao-jie’s allocation is fair.”

Soon, others chimed in agreement.

They’d long been fed up with Shen Ke freeloading points and food. She never did anything on missions, but the boss doted on her, making their complaints useless. Now with Zhao Qi in charge, she wouldn’t tolerate it.

A Si sighed beside them and walked over, offering her food to the teary-eyed Shen Ke. “Shen Ke, take mine. Give it to your kid and wife first.”

Shen Ke slapped her hand away. “I don’t want yours.” She wiped her face and spat at Zhao Qi’s feet before storming off.

Zhao Qi’s brows stayed furrowed. She turned to A Si. “Shen Ke has a wife and kid?”

A Si nodded. “Yeah, Zhao-jie, you just joined recently so you wouldn’t know. Shen Ke’s been married seven years, kid’s seven too.”

“Her wife and child are both ordinary people, so Shen Ke’s always been the one fetching food for them.”

Zhao Qi rubbed her temple, annoyed. “Fine, drop it. She’s lazy and useless—you saw it yourself. She always shows up after we’ve done all the work.”

A Si had nothing to say to that.

Shen Ke stormed home in a huff.

Her home was a mere thirty square meters—a cramped one-room apartment.

But in the apocalypse, even a safe place to sleep was a luxury.

Shen Ke entered and found only her seven-year-old daughter obediently asleep on the sofa.

She had a wife of seven years’ marriage—an arranged family union with zero feelings involved.

The only reason they hadn’t divorced was her wife Wen Su’s prowess in bed.

Shen Ke went over and woke her daughter. “Wen Zhao, where’s your Su Mama?”

Wen Zhao slowly opened her eyes, a smile blooming on her snow-white little face. “Su Mama went to the factory. She’ll be home late today.”

Shen Ke frowned at that, turned, and headed into the bedroom. As she closed the door, she glanced back at Wen Zhao. “No food today. Go hungry.” Her tone wasn’t gentle—cold, even.

Shen Ke didn’t like Wen Zhao. Seven years ago, one day Wen Su brought home an infant, claiming it was made from their genes—their biological child.

But Shen Ke felt no bond. Already no love in the marriage, and now a kid? Total burden.

The door shut. Wen Zhao still smiled innocently, seemingly unaffected by Shen Ke’s indifference.

Night fell quietly, the post-apocalyptic chill bone-deep.

But Shen Ke woke from heat. After awakening her supernatural ability, this happened periodically—lasting three to five days. The only relief was sex.

In plain terms, she was in heat.

“Shen Ke, you’re awake.” Wen Su’s slightly hoarse voice came from beside her.

Shen Ke sat up in bed and saw Wen Su standing there. She reached out, grasping Wen Su’s wrist, her voice sticky and needy. “Wen Su, I want it now.”

Wen Su lived up to her name—elegant and refined all over, save for her overly pale skin.

Shen Ke’s hand burned hot, but Wen Su’s was ice-cold.

Wen Su smiled, lowered her head, her phoenix eyes locking onto Shen Ke’s lust-filled gaze. “Mm, I’ll give it to you now.”

Lewd sounds spilled continuously from Shen Ke’s mouth.

Wen Su sat quietly in a chair, watching Shen Ke on the bed with cold eyes.

Shen Ke’s legs were spread wide, her cat ears trembling atop her head, tail thrashing wildly.

The room door opened then, but it didn’t faze Shen Ke at all.

Her body flushed red, eyes glazed, her mature form at peak seductiveness.

Full red lips, heaving breasts.

Wen Su tapped the laptop on her lap lightly. “Your heat period should be coming soon too, Wen Zhao.”

Wen Zhao wore an innocent smile, her childish voice piping up. “Why’s Ke Mama leaking so much water down there?”

Wen Su glanced at Shen Ke, taking in her tear-streaked flushed face. She rose, went to the bedside, and pressed a hand over Shen Ke’s red lips.

Feeling the cool touch, Shen Ke parted her lips and took Wen Su’s fingers inside.

“She’s fully ripe.”

Wen Su addressed Wen Zhao behind her. “Can you control your body size?”

Wen Zhao tilted her head. Her body suddenly stretched, turning from a seven-year-old girl into a seventeen- or eighteen-year-old young woman—sharing five parts resemblance with Wen Su. But the next second, she shrank back to a little girl, except now her lower half was a serpentine tail.

Wen Zhao wagged her scaled tail regretfully. “Not really. Can’t control the beast transformation yet.”

Wen Su withdrew her fingers from Shen Ke’s mouth, pinched her chin to force her lips open, gazing at the red tender tongue tip. “Go to the lab for a checkup tomorrow.” She said this to Wen Zhao.

“Mm—Wen Su—you—slow down—too many fingers—” Shen Ke’s voice broke with pleasure leaking through.

Wen Su’s lips curved faintly. “If you don’t check in time, you’ll end up like your Ke Mama when your heat hits.”

“But I won’t give you mental suggestions.”

Wen Zhao lifted her little face, big eyes full of innocence. “Then Ke Mama can help me when it happens.”

Wen Su gripped Shen Ke’s tail with one hand. The fluffy tail coiled up her arm. Wen Su pinched the base.

Predictably, Shen Ke shuddered all over.

Wen Su said coolly, “Out.”

Wen Zhao’s eyes crinkled in a grin. “Okay.”

The door closed.

Wen Su kneaded the tail base, eyes indifferent. “Do cats have the same mind-beguiling power as foxes?”

Shen Ke whimpered, arching her chest, blinking unfocused eyes. Her soft, sweet voice tickled the heart. “Don’t kiss there—”

“Urgh—”

Wen Su looked down at her dampened hem.

“Ah, you got me wet. Such a naughty cat.”
