Chapter 47: The Fool Who Abandoned His Wife and Child in the Apocalypse (Part 17)

That night, as Shen Ke lay on the bed, she figured it out—why being the leader felt so unreal.

Because Wen Su was pressing down on her from above.

The leader was just a title; she might not even have real power.

Those people only listened to Wen Su anyway.

The idea that becoming leader would let her suppress Wen Su was utterly stupid.

Without absolute strength, no one would listen to her.

But when Wen Su emerged from the bathroom, Shen Ke asked, “Wen Su, what is your supernatural ability?”

Wen Su was wrapped only in a bathrobe, the ends of her hair damp with water. She walked to the bedside, leaned down, and kissed Shen Ke on the lips. “My supernatural ability is Blood Control. It can turn a person into a puddle of blood in an instant.”

Shen Ke’s eyes flashed. This supernatural ability was extraordinarily powerful—likely because of that meteorite.

Shen Ke continued, “Wen Su, take me to the laboratory tomorrow.”

Wen Su reached out and traced Shen Ke’s lips with her fingertip. “Mm, but let’s not talk about that now.”

“I want to do something more important.”

With that, Wen Su lowered her head and peppered kisses from Shen Ke’s forehead—over her eyelashes, the tip of her nose, her cheeks, her red lips, and down her neck—until she nipped at Shen Ke’s collarbone.

A flush crept across Shen Ke’s face. Her body was truly hopeless; any intimate touch from Wen Su made her feel it.

Shen Ke lowered her head, pressed Wen Su’s head down, and said in a coquettish voice, “Wen Su, do you not even see me as the leader?”

Wen Su said nothing. She simply pulled away Shen Ke’s hand from her head and kissed the soft palm.

Seeing Wen Su like this, Shen Ke knew she wouldn’t get any answers.

She might as well clamp her legs around Wen Su’s waist and enjoy it.

The atmosphere in the room gradually heated up, the air growing thick and sticky with their exhaled breaths.

Shen Ke’s breathing grew ragged, her body slick with sweat. The bedsheet beneath her was soaked, and her knees and cheeks felt especially sticky where they touched.

Shen Ke twisted her head to look behind her. All she could see was the top of Wen Su’s head, her own raised hips, and her tail sticking straight up.

“Mmm, Wen Su,” Shen Ke’s voice was both coquettish and seductive, enough to make anyone’s heart flutter.

Wen Su seemed especially fond of taking her in this position.

Sensing Wen Su’s hand now touching her—like playing with a toy, poking lightly one moment and slapping the next, but always staying on the outside—Shen Ke wiggled her waist. “Wen Su, ah—”

Shen Ke arched her back sharply, her ten fingers clutching the bedsheet tightly.

“Wen Su—” Her voice broke in gasps as she kept crying out Wen Su’s name in that coquettish tone.

Wen Su sat on the back of Shen Ke’s calves, a faint blush tinting her pale cheeks.

She loved hearing her own name come from Shen Ke’s mouth.

As she watched her three fingers disappear completely inside, Wen Su bit down on Shen Ke’s wildly thrashing tail.

Shen Ke buried her face in the pillow, her cheeks rubbing frantically against it along with her body’s movements. Wen Su’s fingers were too long; they always reached so deep inside.

The night grew deep, but the little bed in the room still creaked rhythmically. The shadows on the wall revealed two overlapping bodies on top.

The moans rose from low to high, slow to fast, interspersed with pleasure-inducing sounds that made one’s face flush and heart race, filling the entire room shallowly and deeply.

The next morning, Wen Su took Shen Ke to the laboratory.

The zombie with the mouthparts from last time was gone, leaving only an iron cage stained with black blood. Shen Ke glanced at it casually before fixing her gaze firmly on the crimson meteorite covered by the protective cover on the lab table.

A flash of greed passed through Shen Ke’s eyes. She was convinced Wen Su was so powerful because of this meteorite. If she could get her hands on it, she would be more than just the leader of Dawn Base.

Shen Ke slowly approached the meteorite. Like a moth to a flame, she reached out to touch it—only for Wen Su to grab her wrist the next second.

Wen Su’s voice, laced with amusement, sounded in her ear. “Shen Ke, that meteorite is very dangerous.”

Shen Ke’s eyes darkened. She clicked her tongue. “Wen Su, you really are a stingy ghost. I didn’t even touch it yet.”

“Whatever, let’s go. It’s creepy in here; I don’t want to look anymore.”

With that, Shen Ke turned and headed for the door.

Wen Su’s expression remained one of faint amusement from start to finish. No one could read her true thoughts.

Meanwhile, after a good night’s sleep, Zhang Yuxian suddenly remembered the person Qu Xi had asked her about when she showed up at her door.

Big eyes, sharp chin, cat-like— wasn’t that the new leader from yesterday?

With that in mind, Zhang Yuxian quickly washed up and headed to Qu Xi’s house.

All the A-Rank Ability Users lived in the same area; it was just a few steps from her door to Qu Xi’s.

Zhang Yuxian stood at the entrance, knocked, and shouted, “Qu Xi! Are you back?”

She hadn’t heard from Qu Xi in days. After waiting a moment with no response from inside, she figured Qu Xi probably wasn’t back yet.

Just as Zhang Yuxian turned to leave, the door slowly creaked open.

Zhang Yuxian whipped her head around and came face-to-face with a deathly pale visage. She let out a shriek. “Holy shit, Qu Xi, are you dying?!!”

Qu Xi turned her blood-red eyes toward Zhang Yuxian and said in a low voice, “It’s because of my supernatural ability. What do you want with me?”

Stared at by those crimson eyes, Zhang Yuxian felt a chill, but Qu Xi’s manner of speaking seemed normal enough.

Pushing aside her faint suspicion, Zhang Yuxian grinned. “Qu Xi, I found the person you described.”

Qu Xi clenched her fists and curled her lips. “Where is she?”

Zhang Yuxian touched her face. “Qu Xi, don’t you have anything to say to me?”

Qu Xi opened her mouth and spat out three words: “I’m sorry.” After a moment’s thought, she pulled a green crystal nucleus from her pocket and handed it to Zhang Yuxian. “This is my apology.”

Zhang Yuxian beamed at the sight. She took the crystal nucleus and coughed dryly. “We’ve known each other forever; it’s no big deal.”

“By the way, that person you were looking for seems to be looking for you too. Yesterday, she asked me where you were.”

“She’s the new leader. You might not know since you’ve been out so long, but the leadership changed again yesterday. I think her name’s Shen Ke or something.”

As Zhang Yuxian spoke, a deafening thunderclap exploded by her ear, scaring her into bolting away.

Staring at the ground pierced by lightning, Zhang Yuxian swallowed hard. How was the electricity this strong?

Qu Xi smiled. “Sorry, I got a little excited.”

“Zhang Yuxian, take me to the new leader.”

Zhang Yuxian rubbed her nose. “I don’t know how to contact her.”

“You’ll have to ask around. And don’t zap me again from now on!” With that, Zhang Yuxian scampered off.

Qu Xi stood in place, slowly narrowing her red eyes. Perhaps she had a way to draw everyone out.

“Hurry! Hurry! Go find the leader! A massive zombie horde is incoming!!!” The messenger’s voice trembled. There were too many.

How had so many appeared out of nowhere, all gathered together?

The news quickly reached Shen Ke.

The moment she heard it, Shen Ke turned to Wen Su. “Wen Su, I order you to take people and wipe out those zombies.”

Wen Su looked at the messenger. “How many zombies?”

The man’s face was ashen. “A lot. I’ve never seen so many, and there are tons of ability zombies too.”

Shen Ke shoved Wen Su’s arm and snapped, “Wen Su! Go kill those zombies now! If they break in, I’ll die!”

Wen Su caressed Shen Ke’s cheek and planted a kiss on her forehead. “Shen Ke, stay here obediently. Don’t touch that stone, or you’ll turn into a monster.”

Shen Ke frowned impatiently. “Wen Su, what do you take me for? Just go already!”

Wen Su gave Shen Ke a deep look, her dark pupils filled with an almost eerie tenderness. “Shen Ke, don’t do anything stupid.”

Shen Ke paused, anger furrowing her brow. What did she mean by “stupid”?!

She wanted to curse, but Wen Su had already turned and left with the others.

Shen Ke swallowed her rage. She wasn’t planning to head to the laboratory just yet. She’d wait a few days to see if Zhao Qinghe brought people. If not, she’d go take that meteorite for herself.

Shen Ke paced back and forth a few times, then decided to check out the zombie horde anyway.

If there were really that many—even too many for Wen Su—she’d better escape early.

If even Wen Su couldn’t handle them, no one else could.

Staying would mean death.

Thus, Shen Ke hurried to the base gates.

Climbing the tall perimeter wall, she looked down, and her mind went blank.

There were way too many.

Not all ability users were at Dawn Base.

Most went out during the day to scavenge supplies, some far away.

So there weren’t many combat-ready ability users inside.

“Fuck! How did Liu Fang that kid not sense this? A horde this size?!”

Zhang Yuxian used her vines to crush approaching zombies, their foul blood raining down and soaking her clothes.

Zhang Yuxian looked around, not seeing Qu Xi, and started cursing again. “Where the hell is Qu Xi, that little ghost?! Missing at the critical moment!”

“Zhang Yuxian, shut up! Save your energy!”

Zhang Yuxian scoffed, then spun sharply to dodge a wind blade.

Her gaze locked viciously on the direction the wind blade came from, meeting a pair of dull gray eyes—clearly zombie eyes.

She’d seen plenty like them, but this time, Zhang Yuxian’s heart clenched hard. “Fuck!!! Damn it! These zombies have minds now!!!” She clearly saw it: that zombie was thinking, figuring out how to kill her.

Zhang Yuxian’s words hit like a bombshell. Mindless zombies were already hard enough; ones that could think like normal people were impossible.

Dodging another oncoming wind blade, a deep sense of powerlessness welled up in Zhang Yuxian. At this rate, could they really hold off the zombies?

Wen Su’s gaze swept faintly over the wind ability zombie. She raised her hand lightly.

“Bang!” The wind ability zombie, along with those around Wen Su, exploded into sprays of blood.

Wen Su smiled faintly. “You need to fight seriously, miss.”

Zhang Yuxian blinked rapidly. She’d forgotten in her panic—zombies could evolve, so humans could too. Soon, there might be more s-level ability users as powerful as Wen Su.

Wen Su’s strength was beyond doubt.

She simply stood there, and any zombies lunging at her turned to minced meat.

Her clothes were only slightly dirtied at the hem—that was Wen Su right now.

Shen Ke watched clearly, gritting her teeth. Wen Su was far more powerful than she’d imagined.

It had to be that meteorite. Soon, it would be hers.

Shen Ke was so focused she didn’t notice the figure creeping up behind her.

Until a familiar voice rang out. “Shen Ke, I found you.”

Shen Ke froze and turned to see who it was. Before she could make out the face, she was pulled into a cold embrace.

“Shen Ke, I thought I’d never see you again.”

Shen Ke’s tense body relaxed. Oh, it was just Qu Xi, that little ghost.

“Qu Xi, where have you been? You didn’t even show up yesterday—that was my big day becoming leader.”

Qu Xi buried her face in the crook of Shen Ke’s neck. “I’m sorry, Shen Ke. I didn’t mean not to come.”

Shen Ke wasn’t too hung up on it. She patted Qu Xi’s back. “Alright, go help wipe out the zombies first.”

“This base is mine now. You have to protect it well.”

Qu Xi lifted her head, released Shen Ke, and glanced at the zombies. She smiled lightly, then scooped Shen Ke up in her arms. “It’s fine. In a bit, the zombies will leave.”

Her voice was soft; Shen Ke didn’t catch it. As she opened her mouth to ask, Qu Xi leapt off the high wall with her.

The intense weightlessness made Shen Ke cling tightly to Qu Xi’s neck.

Once they landed steadily, Shen Ke scolded, “Qu Xi, how could you do that! What if you dropped me!”

“And I told you to go kill zombies, not carry me!”

Qu Xi lowered her head slowly. “Shen Ke, listen.”

Shen Ke frowned. “Listen to what?”

No sooner had she spoken than shouts erupted from outside. “Wait! The zombies seem to be retreating!”

“Damn, I almost thought I was gonna die here!”

“Me too! My supernatural ability was almost depleted!”

The noisy clamor outside indicated they were safe now.

Shen Ke widened her eyes and stared straight at Qu Xi’s blood-red eyes. “Qu Xi, you—”

Qu Xi blinked, only to hear Shen Ke continue. “You wore colored contacts? They look pretty good, but seeing them at night might be a bit creepy.”

Looking at that snow-white beautiful face and the slightly reddened corners of her eyes, Qu Xi laughed and hugged Shen Ke tightly as she hurried toward home.

She now couldn’t wait to devour Shen Ke.

Imagining Shen Ke’s beautiful eyes filled with tears, her fair cheeks flushed with arousal, her smooth skin marked with her kisses—she wouldn’t spare a single inch of Shen Ke’s body.

Hearing such cute words from those full lips, how could she not be moved?

In every world, there was such a type of character. They bullied the protagonist, framed the protagonist, and kept courting death right in front of the protagonist. Shen Ke had to play these roles. [World One: The Fake Young Lady in a Wealthy Family] Shen Ke was the fake young lady who had taken someone else's identity. Later, the real young lady was found back, and everyone pitied the real young lady. Shen Ke grew jealous of her and frantically framed her until one day the truth came out. Everyone's gazes turned to her. Shen Ke was chased out of the Shen Family. However, what no one expected was that those heavenly daughters, who should have despised her to the extreme, lowered their proud heads and begged her to return. [World Two: The Little Follower in an Aristocratic School] Tesiya Aristocratic School had four top figures, and Shen Ke was the Little Follower of one of them. Every day, she bullied others using that person's power. Seeing those people seemingly intimidated by her and not daring to look at her, Shen Ke grew even more smug. Little did she know, those people were simply charmed by her cuteness and harbored dark fantasies in secret. But because of those four people's statuses, they didn't dare to act too much. Shen Ke had no idea about this. Every day, she strutted around like a proud little rooster until one day, a Special Admission Student slammed her hard onto the ground. Shen Ke burst into tears. The Special Admission Student panicked and held her in her arms, coaxing, "Don't cry. I didn't mean to. How about you hit me back?" [World Three: The Social Butterfly in the Slums] Shen Ke came from a poor family. Her father was in prison, and her mother had died early. She was forced to grow up quickly and smiled at everyone, becoming the social butterfly everyone despised. Shen Ke had been jealous of her childhood sweetheart since childhood. They both lived in the slums, but her childhood sweetheart had loving parents and later found a rich partner. Shen Ke came up with a scheme. She seduced her childhood sweetheart's partner and used her to enter the upper circles. Everyone in the upper circles knew Shen Ke, the little social butterfly from the slums. They verbally expressed disdain for her, but in private, they fought each other to the death over this little social butterfly. Her childhood sweetheart, whose partner she had seduced, pinned her in a corner and kissed her ear. "Keke, I've been waiting so long for you to come. Why didn't you come seduce me?" [World Four: The Stupid Bastard in the Apocalypse Who Killed Her Wife and Abandoned Her Child] The apocalypse arrived. To survive, Shen Ke pushed her wife into a zombie horde and then abandoned her seven-year-old child. She latched onto an Ability User and was brought back to the base. However, the moment she saw the base leader, Shen Ke's face turned pale. That leader was none other than the wife she had killed. The moment the leader grabbed her by the neck, Shen Ke cried uncontrollably. "Please, let me go." But the leader chuckled softly. "Let you go? I'm afraid not. Someone as wicked as you is only suited to be locked in bed for life." [World Five: The Lawless Dandy Eldest Miss.] There was a famous dandy in Upper Yan City: the Eldest Miss of the Prime Minister's Mansion, Shen Ke. That Shen Ke bullied men and dominated women, committing all kinds of evil, until one day the Prime Minister's Mansion was raided. The woman Shen Ke had forcibly taken as a wife turned out to be the exiled Imperial Princess. The Shen Family's crimes piled up even higher. Shen Ke could only plead tearfully with those people she had previously looked down on. Those people had originally despised Shen Ke to the extreme, but in the instant those teary eyes looked over, a different kind of thought arose in their hearts. "Want me to help you? Sure, become my bed warmer."
