Shen Ke struggled, flailing her hands wildly and landing all the blows on Chi Wan. “I want to get out.” She was just a little short—she could complete the task.
The thought made Shen Ke’s tears flow even more fiercely. “I’m going to get out!”
Chi Wan was strong and completely unfazed by Shen Ke’s struggles. She carried her into the bathroom.
Lu Yanbai also got up from the ground and entered the bathroom.
An unspoken rift had formed between them at some point. Chi Wan wouldn’t let her be alone with Shen Ke, and she wouldn’t let Shen Ke be alone with Chi Wan.
It seemed their sisterhood was too fake after all.
She had originally thought she could tolerate sharing Shen Ke with Chi Wan.
She had overestimated herself.
Lu Yanbai looked at her reflection in the mirror. The wound on her forehead wasn’t too big, and the blood had already coagulated around it, forming dark red patches.
There were bite marks of various sizes on her face, all left by Shen Ke.
Lu Yanbai curved her eyes into a smile. Shen Ke was still too gentle.
With that thought, Lu Yanbai walked up to Shen Ke and gathered her long hair up. “There, you look beautiful.”
Chi Wan had just stripped off Shen Ke’s clothes—a process that wasn’t easy at all, since Shen Ke struggled fiercely and had to be firmly restrained.
Shen Ke’s eyelashes were wet. She couldn’t figure out what Lu Yanbai and Chi Wan were up to.
If they were imprisoning her to possess her, it should have happened the first day during her bath.
But a week had already passed, and the most they’d done was kiss.
Shen Ke was placed naked into the bathtub, the water level rising past her chest.
Shen Ke looked at the two people staring at her, scooped up water from the tub, and splashed it at them—one handful after another, nonstop.
Neither Lu Yanbai nor Chi Wan dodged, letting their clothes get soaked.
Both were wearing the school’s signature white shirts, which clung tightly to their bodies once wet.
Chi Wan’s expression remained cold from start to finish. “Stop playing around. You’ll catch a cold.”
Shen Ke pouted, tears welling up in her eyes. “Why are you locking me up? It’s been so long.”
Lu Yanbai’s eyebrow arched slightly as she smiled brightly. “I told you—I don’t want you to leave.”
Shen Ke scooped up another handful of water and splashed it at Lu Yanbai, yelling angrily, “I didn’t go anywhere!”
“I’ve been in the school the whole time. Why lock me up?!”
Lu Yanbai leaned close to Shen Ke and pinched her earlobe, sighing. “Shen Ke, I’m afraid you’ll leave this world.”
The words stunned Shen Ke into place. “What do you mean?”
Suddenly, a loud crash came from the door outside.
Lu Yanbai’s smile faded as she looked at Chi Wan. “We’ve been found.”
Chi Wan frowned, stood up, and headed outside.
Lu Yanbai shook her head. “Looks like we can’t finish the bath properly.”
Shen Ke’s eyes widened as she grabbed Lu Yanbai’s clothes. “You haven’t explained what you mean by leaving this world!”
Lu Yanbai grasped Shen Ke’s wrist and pulled her close, lightly nipping her lip before smiling. “This world is fake, isn’t it?”
Shen Ke’s heart skipped a beat. How was that possible? How could someone in the task world realize?
Shen Ke was completely dazed, not even noticing when she was picked up.
Lu Yanbai wrapped her in a bath towel, her voice light and airy. “Shen Ke, I’ve investigated you.”
“You entered Noah Academy at seventeen, bully the weak and fear the strong, look down on special admission students and yellow gem class people.”
“A very ordinary profile. But Shen Ke, you forgot one thing.”
“Someone as spoiled and delicate as you—why would you actively choose to go with Qi Yuan, knowing she was a special admission student?”
“She bullied you, didn’t she? You wouldn’t even give someone like that a second glance.”
“Yet all your interactions with Qi Yuan were initiated by you.”
“She’s your target, isn’t she?”
Lu Yanbai had started investigating Shen Ke the moment she noticed her own emotions.
No one changes that quickly in a short time.
Shen Ke’s trip to Qi Yuan’s hometown had seemed too deliberate to her.
It could be explained as love at first sight, but there was no love in the way Shen Ke looked at Qi Yuan.
She had also suspected Si Qing and Leigh.
But there was no love in the way Shen Ke looked at either of them—and she interacted most actively with Qi Yuan.
These things all had holes in them, but Lu Yanbai trusted her instincts.
Shen Ke was special. One day, she would completely disappear from this world. So she chose to imprison her. Regardless of whether her guess was right, she would take this step.
She only hoped Shen Ke would stay.
Lu Yanbai carried Shen Ke and opened the bathroom door. “I was planning to take you somewhere else once things quieted down, eliminate Qi Yuan, and make sure you could never leave this world. But we were discovered too soon.” She should have gotten rid of Qi Yuan from the start.
“Your expression says I hit the mark.”
The bathroom door opened, and Shen Ke stiffly turned her head to look.
“Baby!”
“Shen Ke!”
Leigh, Qi Yuan, Si Qing.
Chi Wan took advantage of Leigh’s distraction to deliver a hard kick to her stomach.
Leigh couldn’t dodge in time and took the hit squarely. She laughed wildly, grabbed Chi Wan’s leg, and twisted hard. “So it was you hiding Baby. She must have been terrified.”
“I should kill you all.”
Chi Wan used the momentum from her leg to spin and swing a fist at Leigh’s face. “Leigh, this isn’t your country.”
Leigh blocked Chi Wan’s punch and clicked her tongue, calling out to Qi Yuan and Si Qing. “What are you waiting for? Go grab Shen Ke! Are you stupid bastards?”
Qi Yuan reached Shen Ke first. Seeing her drenched state, she said gravely, “I’m sorry, Shen Ke.”
Si Qing’s health was poor, so she lagged behind Qi Yuan. But upon seeing Shen Ke unharmed, she coughed heavily.
Lu Yanbai had no intention of fighting. She gently set Shen Ke down.
She tenderly stroked Shen Ke’s cheek, a faint love appearing in her eyes. “Looks like I can’t keep you. Goodbye.”
Shen Ke had been dazed from start to finish, but now she snapped to and looked toward Qi Yuan, whose face was full of worry.
Seeing Shen Ke look at her, Qi Yuan opened her arms, her tone pleading. “Shen Ke, come here, okay?”
Shen Ke bit her lip and threw herself into Si Qing’s arms nearby in two or three steps.
She burst into tears. “Si Qing! Why did you take so long to come?!”

Qi Yuan’s body trembled. She stared blankly at her empty arms, then stiffly turned around.
Chi Wan wasn’t as good a fighter as Leigh. Leigh kicked her aside and came to Shen Ke, yanking her from Si Qing’s arms and into her own. She glared coldly at Lu Yanbai, who was smiling nearby. “I won’t let you off.” She had to find someone to kill these two pieces of trash.
Lu Yanbai’s smile didn’t change.
Si Qing reached out and patted Shen Ke’s head. “Shen Ke, I’m sorry. We should have found you sooner.” She couldn’t lift Shen Ke, so she didn’t resist when Leigh snatched her away.
Shen Ke wiped her tears on Leigh’s clothes and looked up at Si Qing. “It’s okay. Who can blame you for being Si Qing?”
Qi Yuan stepped closer, a strange smile on her face. “Shen Ke, what about me?”
Shen Ke’s gaze fell on Qi Yuan. This was the first time she’d seen her so disheveled.
Bloodshot eyes, messy hair, an exhausted face—like she was on the verge of madness.
Shen Ke frowned. “You? I’ve always said it—you’re just a dog.”
“Didn’t you hear it on the phone last time? I’m not dependent on you.”
Leigh cracked a grin and burst out laughing, tightening her hold on Shen Ke. She sneered, “What garbage confidence makes you even ask that?”
Chi Wan got up from the ground and leaned against the wall. She glanced at the space outside the door, which was beginning to warp, and let out a light scoff. Her gaze fell on Lu Yanbai. “You really are smart as always.”
Lu Yanbai shrugged. “Goodbye.”
Their words were like riddles to Leigh and Si Qing—they had no idea what they meant.
Leigh had no time to waste here.
She held Shen Ke and turned to leave, but the ground beneath her feet suddenly shook violently.

Shen Ke’s eyes widened instantly. She was so close! She clung to Leigh and chimed in, “Exactly, exactly. Leigh’s right. I’ve always treated her like a toy from start to finish, but she keeps wanting more. She has no self-awareness.”
Even though the terrifying Lu Yanbai had figured it out, her task was about to succeed. She didn’t care at all!

[Task Failed—]
[Ding! Major incident in Task World 777!]
Shen Ke nearly fainted from anger. It failed like this?!!
What was this blackening value? The system had never mentioned it!
Shen Ke looked toward Qi Yuan and met her gaze. In that instant, Shen Ke’s body shuddered violently.
Qi Yuan cracked her lips into a smile, her body twisting, but she seemed unaware, staring straight at Shen Ke. “Shen Ke, you lied to me.”
“I don’t like those words, but it’s okay. As long as you stay by my side, you’ll stop saying them eventually.”
Shen Ke panicked and looked around, only now realizing that Leigh and the others had vanished at some point. It was pitch black, leaving only her and Qi Yuan.
[Ding! Task World 777 will restart soon!]
[Countdown: One minute]
As Qi Yuan approached, Shen Ke retreated helplessly. She didn’t understand the message in her mind and could only frantically call out to the system.
But her head was silent—no response from the system.
Shen Ke couldn’t hold back her tears. [System! Where are you?!]
Half of Qi Yuan’s body had dissolved into light particles. She reached out slowly toward Shen Ke, smiling foolishly. “Shen Ke, next time, I’ll become rich. Will you be with me?”
[Countdown: 10, 9, 8…]
Shen Ke couldn’t take it. She squeezed her eyes shut and yelled, “System!!!”
[Tasker 56417! Grab my hand quick!]
The pitch-black space suddenly tore open a rift. The system extended its matchstick-thin arm toward Shen Ke. [Hurry!!!] Damn it! The blackening value in this world maxed out suddenly, hitting the world’s threshold limit. The world would auto-restart.
Tasker 56417 was being assimilated. It hadn’t been prepared at all, so it was expelled as a foreign object. Once the small world fully restarted, the tasker would lose her memories and become part of the small world.
[Countdown: 3, 2… 1…]
[Shen Ke!!!]
[Ding! Rules reconstructed, order reconstructed. World restarted—]
