Wei Shu was biting hard on Li Yuanxi’s neck. Annoyed by the wailing, she reached up and clamped her hand over Li Yuanxi’s mouth.
Her lips were painted with the most vivid red imaginable. She looked at the bleeding gland in confusion. “Why isn’t it working?” she murmured.
“Wah wah wah~~~”
Li Yuanxi was crying from the pain. She held Wei Shu tightly, sobbing loudly. “Wah wah wah~~ Wei Shu, you’re going too far~~”
Wei Shu was pinned against Li Yuanxi’s body. She leaned into her, staring blankly at the bleeding wound. Tears welled up in her own eyes. “Why isn’t it working?”
“Why isn’t it working?” Wei Shu kept repeating the question, unable to believe it. Her nose twitched as she looked at the pheromone gland on Li Yuanxi’s nape. Her usually rational, beautiful black eyes were clouded with a layer of tears.
Li Yuanxi was still bawling. She picked Wei Shu up and threw her back onto the bed. Tears kept falling. The searing pain in her pheromone gland was maddening. It hurt so much. Anyone would be in agony after being bitten like that.
She touched her neck and her hand came away covered in blood. Li Yuanxi sniffled hard, tears and snot streaming down her face. She had never felt such pain in her life. Her pheromone gland was the most delicate part of her body.
Being bitten and torn by Wei Shu had left her pacing in circles inside the cave, frantic with pain. She walked back and forth, her tears dripping onto the floor. She felt so wronged.
She would never have let anyone else get close enough to bite her. Anyone who tried would have been beaten to a pulp!
Wei Shu lay down on the bed with a look of despair, still muttering to herself. “Why isn’t it working?”
“Did I bite in the wrong place?” Wei Shu stared at the uneven cave ceiling, questioning her life choices. Li Yuanxi, fuming, picked up a small mirror and struggled to look at her ravaged pheromone gland.
“How could you do this?!” Li Yuanxi’s long, curled lashes were wet with tears. She sniffled, enduring the tearing pain in her nape. She picked up the alcohol and carefully sprayed it on to disinfect.
“Ahhh!” The sharp sting of the alcohol made Li Yuanxi cry out. Her forehead was beaded with sweat. She took several deep, ragged breaths before the pain subsided slightly.
Hearing Li Yuanxi’s scream, Wei Shu snapped out of her self-doubt. She sat up and quietly walked toward Li Yuanxi again.
Hearing the movement, Li Yuanxi jumped back seven or eight steps in fright. She was never letting Wei Shu near her again.
“You… you… you… stay back!!” Li Yuanxi stammered, telling Wei Shu to stop. Whenever she got close, misfortune followed.
Wei Shu pouted, looking hurt. She hunched her shoulders, looking utterly pathetic and pitiful. If it weren’t for the dried blood on her lips, Li Yuanxi might have actually believed she had wronged her.
Li Yuanxi backed away further, keeping her distance. She kept waving her hands, stopping Wei Shu from approaching. “Don’t come near me. My neck still hurts!”
“Let me see. Let me take a look and put some medicine on it, okay?” Wei Shu’s eyes were filled with guilt. Tears glistened in her eyes, threatening to spill over at the slightest movement.
Her tears were truly like pearls falling onto a jade plate, full of a sense of fragility. The unbearable guilt and sorrow in her eyes made Li Yuanxi’s mouth twitch.
She looked at Wei Shu’s tears. She knew Wei Shu was acting, but she couldn’t help but soften.
“Alright, fine. You can look. But no biting me again!!” Li Yuanxi sighed, emphasizing the most important point.
Wei Shu nodded docilely, the tear tracks on her face making it seem like Li Yuanxi was the one who had bullied her.
Li Yuanxi carefully sat down on the stool, her toes pointed outward, ready to bolt at the slightest hint of trouble. She was not giving Wei Shu a second chance.
Li Yuanxi cautiously glanced at Wei Shu’s expression. She still had that pitiful, vulnerable look, like a delicate white lotus.
Li Yuanxi felt a surge of helplessness. When Wei Shu had bitten her earlier, she had done it with vicious force. She bit down hard and refused to let go.
Wei Shu held a cotton pad, carefully lifting the collar of Li Yuanxi’s shirt. When she saw the pheromone gland, with the flesh torn open from her bite, she panicked a little.
Had she really bitten that hard?
She looked at Li Yuanxi’s wary, defensive expression and felt a lump in her throat. The fog of her Bonding Heat cleared for a few seconds.
“I’m sorry.” Wei Shu’s clear, hoarse voice was full of apology. Li Yuanxi turned her head to look at the now slightly more lucid Wei Shu. What could she do? She couldn’t exactly hold her accountable.
Li Yuanxi looked down awkwardly. “It’s okay. I don’t blame you. I know you couldn’t control yourself. Just… don’t bite me again…”
As Li Yuanxi muttered under her breath, Wei Shu’s gaze deepened as she looked at the torn, bleeding gland. Her black pupils were like ink, hiding a storm of emotions beneath the surface.
She lowered her head, her nostrils flaring as if she was smelling something. Feeling the hot breath on her neck, Li Yuanxi immediately straightened her back. She tried to run, but Wei Shu wrapped her arms around her waist from behind.
A slender, soft body pressed against her. Li Yuanxi didn’t find it attractive. She just felt a bitter taste in her mouth. She had been completely bewitched.
Why had she agreed to let Wei Shu look?
For heaven’s sake! Wei Shu was a liar! Didn’t she fear divine retribution?
Wei Shu lowered her head until her nose touched Li Yuanxi’s nape. She turned her head slightly, remembering not to let the wound get infected.
Then she lowered her head and kissed the wound she had inflicted. The taste of iron in her mouth didn’t disgust her; instead, it brought some comfort to her parched, burning soul and body.
Li Yuanxi held her breath, terrified that the person behind her might decide to bite her again. There were no rabies vaccines on this island!
“Wei Shu… I think you can get up now.” Li Yuanxi’s voice trembled as she tried to reason with her. She was about to turn her head and tell Wei Shu to let go of her neck.
But her chin was grabbed by Wei Shu, who told her to stay still. Li Yuanxi was on the verge of tears. When would Wei Shu ever be gentle and listen to her?
Wei Shu, who was very busy, refused to comply.
“You’re indulging me.” Wei Shu’s hot, iron-tinged breath whispered in Li Yuanxi’s ear, piercing through to her hidden thoughts.
Li Yuanxi’s face turned red. Her body stiffened, and she couldn’t speak. She had, indeed, indulged Wei Shu’s actions. She wanted to make Wei Shu feel better, at least to mitigate the negative effects of the heat.
Wei Shu pressed against her back. Her right hand let go of Li Yuanxi’s waist. She reached out, slowly sliding her hand down Li Yuanxi’s arm until their fingers were intertwined.
“I really owe you one.” Li Yuanxi looked at their intertwined fingers. She tried to stand up, but Wei Shu lowered her head and kissed her pheromone gland again. The warm, soft tongue soothed the pain of the torn wound.
Wei Shu was now like a big cat ready to pounce. She was stalking her prey, letting them let their guard down bit by bit, before sinking her fangs in when they least expected it.
Li Yuanxi tilted her head back in distress, a pained expression on her face. “I’m telling you, I’m going to run away. You just stay here in the cave. I’ll come back later to make you dinner.”
She swallowed, pulling her hand free from Wei Shu’s grip. Just as she was about to get up, a wave of pheromones crashed into her own gland.
Li Yuanxi’s eyes flew wide open. She threw her head back and let out a howl. “Wei Shu, if I ever let you get close to me again, I’m a dog!!”
Li Yuanxi’s face was flushed. Her expression was a mixture of pain and struggle. The forceful injection of pheromones was overloading her gland. The pain was driving her crazy.
It was like a water valve that wasn’t open, but the pressure was constantly increasing. Eventually, the valve would give out.
Wei Shu’s eyes were red. Her brows were furrowed. Why was there still no scent?
Stubbornly, Wei Shu bit down on Li Yuanxi’s gland again. She was using a marking method, trying to mark Li Yuanxi.
Such a high concentration of high-level omega pheromones should have been enough to mark an alpha. But Li Yuanxi still wasn’t responding.
Just as Li Yuanxi was about to break free, Wei Shu caught a whiff of agarwood. Her eyes lit up. She was about to increase the flow of pheromones when she suddenly passed out.
Wei Shu fell backward, landing on the ground. Li Yuanxi hunched her shoulders, her back arched. Her brow was furrowed. “Ssss… you really are a dog!”
The pain in her nape was unbearable. Large teardrops streamed down her face uncontrollably. Her pheromone gland was throbbing, as if it had come alive.
She sat on the stool for a long time, recovering, before finally wiping away her tears. She rolled her eyes at Wei Shu, who was lying on the floor, and reluctantly carried her back to the bed.
Strangely enough, the heat seemed to have subsided from Wei Shu’s body. Li Yuanxi quickly felt her forehead and arms. “She’s not hot anymore.”
Li Yuanxi was surprised for a second. She squinted at the purple-brown blood that had dried on Wei Shu’s lips. Without another word, she pulled a blanket over Wei Shu and went outside to tend to her own wound.
Li Yuanxi sat at the mouth of the cave. She pulled open her collar. The blood had dried, sticking to her clothes. It hurt when she pulled it away. “Sss! Mmm!”
Li Yuanxi’s face was twisted in pain. She couldn’t treat the wound herself. She could only use alcohol and cold water to rinse it clean, then spray on some iodine. Iodine was less harsh on the wound than alcohol.
“Ahh~ sss… thank goodness for Miss Anna’s first aid kit.” Li Yuanxi tilted her head back, holding her breath. She pressed a clean cotton pad firmly onto the wound to stop the bleeding.
When Wei Shu woke up, her whole body was sore. She opened her eyes. The cave was dim, lit only by the faint, flickering glow of the fire.
The dim light made her eyes blurry. Her throat was parched. She looked around the cave for a long time but didn’t see Li Yuanxi.
She had to drag her exhausted body to the stove and pour herself a cup of warm water. The scent of lemon leaves helped clear her head a little.
“You’re awake?” Li Yuanxi’s brown eyes were hidden in the darkness. She stood silently at the mouth of the cave, expressionless, watching Wei Shu drink her tea in small sips.
Startled by the sudden voice, Wei Shu jumped. She nearly dropped her cup.
“You… what are you doing? You scared me.” Wei Shu clutched the cup, looking at Li Yuanxi. She didn’t know why, but she could have sworn she heard Li Yuanxi snort.
“Looks like you don’t remember.” Li Yuanxi’s words came out of nowhere, leaving Wei Shu confused.
Wei Shu wanted to ask what she meant. But seeing Li Yuanxi’s angry expression, she decided against it. She was feeling unwell. She would ask Li Yuanxi what was wrong when she felt better.
Li Yuanxi glanced at the woman drinking water. She reached out and pushed her away. She was now terrified of Wei Shu standing behind her. Who knew when she would take another bite? How was she supposed to survive?
Wei Shu thought she was in Li Yuanxi’s way. She deliberately moved aside. Seeing this, Li Yuanxi let out another dissatisfied snort.
Wei Shu’s brow twitched. She lifted her eyes and quietly watched Li Yuanxi, who was clearly displeased with her. Li Yuanxi curled her lip. She lowered her head and put the clean taro into the iron pot to boil.
She didn’t want to talk to Wei Shu right now. Her neck hurt too much.
