Chapter 70: Kicking Someone When They’re Down Part 2

Wang Ya unhooked her descender, gripped the climbing rope tightly, kicked off the thick Yellow Springs Other Shore Flower roots—formed from countless tendrils, sturdy as a colossal tree—and swiftly dashed into the opened door. Demonic Aura radiated from her body in bewitching red light; the falling debris that struck this glow bounced away harmlessly, unable to harm Wang Ya in the slightest.

Zhang Qingshui summoned her Azure Dragon Vine, enveloping Old Tang and herself in its glow, and leaped through the door after Wang Ya.

Wang Ya landed in the passage, hearing the rumbling from above like neighbors upstairs demolishing their apartment—bang-bang-boom in endless succession, mixed with human screams, roars, and the howls of unknown beasts. It was livelier than fireworks at midnight on New Year’s Eve, but unlike the festive joy of celebrations, the commotion here was one of carnage.

The entire passage trembled as if in an earthquake. Fortunately, though simply constructed, the place was sturdy; it shook but the walls did not crack, and no debris fell.

The Yin Qi here was so thick that even the Strong Flashlight’s beam could not penetrate it.

Zhang Qingshui had to use the Azure Dragon Vine to dispel the surrounding Yin Qi to see the path ahead.

Bathed in the dense Yin Qi, Wang Ya, surrounded by Demonic Aura, felt utterly comfortable, and she could see the surroundings crystal clear. She stood in an arched passage about two meters wide and three meters high, straight as an arrow extending deep into the mountain, with no end in sight.

Wang Ya dashed forward along the passage.

Zhang Qingshui and Old Tang followed closely.

Suddenly, an excruciating scream accompanied by a man’s bellow rang out: “Min’er!”

Zhang Qingshui halted at the familiar voice, exclaiming in shock, “Zhang Min!” She murmured, “It’s Fourth Uncle’s voice!” Her face turned deathly pale. A direct descendant of the Zhang Family was in the Labyrinth.

“Retreat! Retreat now!”

“Da-da-da—” The rapid fire of assault rifles erupted!

Zhang Qingshui had known that Zhang Family members would enter the Labyrinth to clear paths and break arrays, but knowing and hearing their voices amid the peril were different matters. These were her kin in distress. Though she and her siblings had clashed fiercely over inheritance in the past, the bond from growing up together remained—they had studied, been punished, caused trouble, and competed side by side.

Old Tang’s voice rang out: “Little Zhang, what are you spacing out for? Let’s go!”

Zhang Qingshui knew what Wang Ya intended; she had come down here for one purpose: to slaughter everyone in the Labyrinth. But her kin were in there! Help Wang Ya or save her family? Zhang Qingshui did not know. At this point, Wang Ya’s value no longer outweighed the lives of Zhang Family direct descendants; she did not want to see her relatives perish here. Yet she also did not want Wang Ya to die. She knew well that if Wang Ya could not stop them, Wang Ya would be in danger. Wang Ya had fled, endured humiliation, and finally reached her home turf—would she abandon this chance for vengeance, let her enemies go, hand over the Feng Family’s everything, and keep running? Impossible! No one would!

Wang Ya ignored Old Tang and Zhang Qingshui behind her entirely. The ceaseless screams, fierce combat, and gunfire sounded like death knells in her ears, coming from not far above her.

Above were not only Zhang Family members but also the Military. Zhang Family, Xuan Men, Military—which of these could she, Wang Ya, handle alone? Especially since the three had allied!

The passage was long; Wang Ya ran for seven or eight minutes before reaching the end. First to come into view was Optimus Prime. This Bronze Pillar resembled the Ruyi Jingu Bang that Sun Wukong fixed at the sea bottom, firmly embedded in the abyss before her. The abyss was an irregular circular pit, about twenty meters in diameter, pitch-black and bottomless. The Bronze Pillar, five or six meters thick, stood eerily there, exuding an ancient, chilling aura. Wang Ya clearly saw countless strands of Yin Qi converging in the Bronze Pillar, flowing with faint glimmers of Talisman Patterns.

A faint groan sounded. Wang Ya then noticed a person lying at the edge of the dark abyss. She walked over and looked down to see a young man in his early twenties.

Amid the chaos of noises and shouts from above suddenly came a man’s deafening roar: “This is the Array Pillar—the source of energy for this entire Magic Array!”

Another shout followed: “Zhang Min, you okay?”

“Wait, what’s with the red light below!”

“Never mind, destroy the Array Pillar first!”

Wang Ya figured the situation above was dire; from their yelled dialogues, everyone was shouting at the top of their lungs. Just from the frantic cries, she could imagine their urgency—faces flushed, necks bulging, eyes bloodshot.

Zhang Qingshui and Old Tang caught up. Zhang Qingshui spotted the man on the ground and cried out, “Zhang Min!”

Hearing Zhang Qingshui, Zhang Min called, “Qing Jie!” He rolled over, trying to get up but fell back. He looked up at Wang Ya standing nearby and saw her staring back at him.

Wang Ya sneered coldly and kicked him straight into the abyss before her.

“Ah—”

“Zhang Min—”

Zhang Min’s scream and Zhang Qingshui’s cry rang out simultaneously. At the same time, the Azure Dragon Vine shot out like a soaring dragon, plunging into the abyss after Zhang Min.

Heaven had sun and moon; the world divided into yin and yang. The Yang Realm had people, so did the Underworld have ghosts? Where was the Underworld? Where were the ghosts?

One day, a girl born on the fifteenth day of the seventh lunar month—the Ghost Festival—flipped open an ancient, faded scroll and suddenly discovered that it brimmed with vibrant colors.
