Wang Ya’s excessively young and beautiful face, pretty to the point of flamboyance, revealed a mocking smile. She raised her voice and asked, “You think you can keep me here?” As soon as the words left her mouth, the Ancient Old Ghost appeared before her and raised her cane to smash down on her head.
Ghosts were spirit bodies, mere electric waves or clumps of yin qi, formless entities by nature. Yet this old ghost’s staff swung down with a “whoosh” of wind, sounding heavy and powerful.
Wang Ya neither dodged nor evaded. She flipped up both palms and slapped them onto the falling cane. The palms she struck out contained hidden force and immense power. The old ghost’s cane was no ordinary thing either—it was a solid object, firm and icy to the touch, shaped like wood but feeling like stone when it struck her palms. The cane hit Wang Ya’s hands, causing them to ache fiercely and her palms to go numb from the shock. She took the full blow of the cane head-on, and the tremendous force sent her staggering back half a step before she steadied herself.
The old ghost was also jolted back by Wang Ya’s power, her body arching backward as the cane nearly flew from her grasp. She retreated several steps before steadying herself, a sinister smile creeping across her face as she swung the cane at Wang Ya once more.
As a spirit body, the old ghost wasn’t using ghostly power to clash brute force with a living person who had a physical form—Wang Ya naturally had no fear and was happy to trade blows with her! She channeled her energy and slapped her palms toward the descending cane.
Now knowing the old ghost’s cane was a solid object, Wang Ya wasn’t foolish enough to meet this iron-hard cane with her soft fleshy palms. She infused her palms with energy; each strike unleashed a surge of gang qi that made her slender hands seem to possess the weight of ten thousand jun, like two delicate yet unbreakable iron palms.
The old ghost and Wang Ya tangled in combat, their movements lightning-fast and every strike immensely powerful. The air filled with the “whoosh! whoosh!” of whipping palms and swinging staffs!
Wang Ya’s feet followed the Bagua positions of the Tai Chi Array as she circled the old ghost, weaving and darting endlessly. Surging power flowed from her feet into her dantian, circulating through her body and gathering in her palms. As her battle intent rose, her movements became as fluid as flowing clouds and running water, faster and faster, her lifelong techniques coming effortlessly to hand.
The old ghost was no pushover either. Her form flickered like a phantom, attacking from treacherous angles. Cane, ghostly claws, and ghost shadows assaulted together, while ferocious souls and malevolent ghosts with green faces, fangs, and hideous features lunged at Wang Ya from time to time.
With her feet treading the Tai Chi Array, Wang Ya’s reactions and senses sharpened to an extreme degree. Every move and technique from the old ghost became predictable; dodging and countering came effortlessly, as if she had rehearsed them a million times—like executing familiar routines step by step. The power gathering in her body grew denser, her palms striking with ever heavier force. When Wang Ya felt the accumulated power reach a critical point, she formed seals with both hands and roared, “Sealing Gods Four Symbols, subdue ghosts!” Her thunderous shout rang like a great bell. As the seal struck out, the Tai Chi Bagua Array glowed beneath her feet, and the Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, and Black Tortoise emerged together, four divine lights blasting toward the old ghost.
The old ghost thrust her cane before her chest and spun it rapidly, like a high-speed rotating electric fan!
The divine lights of the Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, and Black Tortoise crashed into the whirling cane, shaking the very air. The old ghost was hurled into the air, tracing a seven-to-eight-meter arc before fluttering back to the ground like a falling leaf. She let out a “jie jie” sinister laugh and said, “Come on, show me everything you’ve got!”
Wang Ya gritted her teeth and glared at the old ghost. This old ghost was tougher than she had imagined! That cane in her hand was definitely a treasure—unassuming yet capable of blocking her Four Symbols Power! No wonder the old ghost dared to engage her in close-quarters brute force and even let her form seals; she had this to rely on. Wang Ya shouted loudly, “Dead old lady, since you have this cane and these skills, you’re no ordinary ghost—why did you kill so many people?”
The old ghost planted her cane on the ground and spat hatefully, “They destroyed my coffin and damaged my corpse—didn’t they deserve to die?”
Wang Ya said, “What if I perform a Taoist ritual for you, relocate your grave, and rebury you properly?”
“Giggle giggle giggle, little girl, are you joking? Heh heh heh heh, that’s hilarious!” The old ghost clutched her mouth in laughter, her already hunched back bending almost to a right angle.
Wang Ya cursed inwardly, “That ghostly laughter is so grating!” She lifted her small face, tilted her chin arrogantly, and glared at the old ghost, though her heart grew heavier.
Suddenly, Wang Ya felt the ground soften beneath her feet, her body sinking a few inches. The asphalt road felt like a mass of soft mud. A skeletal, chicken-claw-like ghostly hand, icy and hard, emerged from underground, grabbing her ankle and dragging her down. The old ghost’s “jie jie jie jie” eerie cackles rang in her ears: “Little girl, come down and keep me company.” The hand yanked hard on her ankle, and she sank instantly up to mid-calf like quicksand, her body still descending. The ground felt unreal, yin-cold and spongy, as if she had stepped into another world.
