Chapter 63: The Argument

Zhao Shutong was stunned for a moment. “What’s it to you?”

Ren Queyue frowned.

“Don’t you need your stomach anymore?”

“Your stomach was never good before. Now that you’re a boss, you skip meals even more?”

This left Zhao Shutong speechless for a moment. Her eyes flickered as she stubbornly replied:

“What do you care? I know my own stomach. Besides, this is called eating little and often—it’s the healthy new trend. Get it?”

“Eating little and often means having five or six proper meals a day, not just nibbling on a piece of chocolate for lunch!”

Ren Queyue’s occupational habit kicked in.

“With that stomach of yours, you used to break out in cold sweats from even a little hunger…”

“Stop, stop, stop!”

Zhao Shutong raised her hand to cut her off.

“Ren Queyue, what are we now? Exes! Got it? Outdated concern is more nauseating than spoiled rice. Pack away your healer’s parental heart and use it on your new flames instead.”

These words were a bit harsh. Ren Queyue’s face darkened, and she pressed her lips together without speaking, clearly quite upset.

Inside the restaurant.

Xiong Yibai answered a phone call and had just put down her phone when Feng Miwan leaned over to ask, “What happened? Whose call was it?”

Xiong Yibai replied, “My dad. He reminded me to go to Grandma’s for dinner tonight—it’s her birthday. Little Honey, I’ll have to head out right after we eat.”

Feng Miwan muttered softly, “Ah… Will it be a long time?”

Seeing her a bit downcast, Xiong Yibai said, “Yeah, Grandma lives in the mountains. It’s not a short trip.”

They had just confirmed their relationship and things were still fresh and exciting. Feng Miwan wished she could turn into Xiong Yibai’s personal accessory.

She hesitated for a moment but couldn’t hold back. “Um… Yibai, I… can I go with you?”

Hearing this, Xiong Yibai teased her on purpose. “Oh? Wanting to meet the parents so soon?”

Feng Miwan’s face turned red.

“No, no, no! Not meeting the parents! We’ll… we’ll just say we’re friends! Right, friends! Meeting parents is a big deal—it needs careful planning, not something so rash!”

Xiong Yibai found her flustered explanation utterly adorable and nodded.

“Alright. Grandma loves a crowd anyway—the more people, the happier she is.”

Feng Miwan cheered, “Yay! Awesome!”

The two finished their lunch.

As they checked out and headed out, they saw Zhao Shutong and Ren Queyue still standing at the restaurant entrance.

It was less of an argument and more Ren Queyue unilaterally lecturing on health knowledge, while Zhao Shutong stood with her arms crossed, wearing an exasperated “I can’t hear you, you’re chanting like a turtle” expression.

When Zhao Shutong spotted Feng Miwan coming out, she ditched Ren Queyue and hurried over.

“Miwan! You guys done eating? Where are you headed? Take me with you!”

Feng Miwan answered honestly, “I’m going to Yibai’s grandma’s with her.”

Without a second thought, Zhao Shutong linked arms with Feng Miwan. “I’m going too!”

Ren Queyue walked over then and was surprised to see Xiong Yibai.

“Yibai? What are you doing here? And you, the pilot—”

She pointed at Feng Miwan.

“How’d you end up hanging out with her?”

The scene instantly descended into chaos as everyone talked over each other. Xiong Yibai couldn’t get a word in, so she didn’t answer Ren Queyue’s question.

Ren Queyue glanced at Zhao Shutong and blurted out, “Then I’m going too!”

Zhao Shutong bristled. “Why are you going?”

Ren Queyue shot back, “Why are you going?”

Zhao Shutong: “To keep my bestie company!”

Ren Queyue: “I… I’m supervising your meals! So your stomach issues don’t drag everyone down!”

Zhao Shutong: “Do I need your supervision?!”

Ren Queyue: “I’m a doctor—it’s my duty to remind every potential patient!”

Zhao Shutong: “Pfft! You just want to sabotage things!”

Ren Queyue: “You’re the one who wants to sabotage!”

The two went back and forth, their voices growing louder and drawing glances from passersby.

Xiong Yibai’s head throbbed from the noise. She simply took Feng Miwan’s hand and turned toward the parking lot.

The heated arguers, Zhao Shutong and Ren Queyue, froze simultaneously when they saw the leads leaving.

Zhao Shutong: “Hey! Wait for us!”

Ren Queyue: “Hey! Don’t walk so fast!”

Forgetting their spat, the two hurried to catch up.

In the parking lot.

The four faced each other.

Xiong Yibai scanned the trio. “Who’s driving?”

Feng Miwan raised her hand. “Me, me, me!”

The other three chorused, “Anyone but you!”

Feng Miwan pitifully lowered her hand and muttered in protest, “…I drive very steadily.”

No one paid her any mind.

Ren Queyue spread her hands. “I didn’t drive here today.”

Zhao Shutong smugly jingled her car keys and shot Ren Queyue a glance.

“I knew you couldn’t be relied on. Looks like it’s up to me…”

Xiong Yibai’s gaze fell on the sky-high heels on Zhao Shutong’s feet, with heels thin as murder weapons.

“You can forget it too. Driving in those? You trying to send us all straight to the trauma department at my hospital?”

Zhao Shutong: “…………”

She looked down at the shoes she’d forgotten to change out of back at the shop and had nothing to say.

Xiong Yibai walked to her own car and opened the door. “I’ll drive.”

In the end, Xiong Yibai took the driver’s seat, and Feng Miwan climbed into the passenger seat and buckled up.

Zhao Shutong and Ren Queyue exchanged a glance, each “hmph”-ing before reluctantly sitting side by side in the back.

The doors closed, and the engine started.

Xiong Yibai said flatly, “Buckle up.”

The two in the back pulled on their seatbelts and fastened them.

Once on the road, Feng Miwan turned around with a smile to Ren Queyue in the back.

“You’re Doctor Ren Queyue, right? I’m Feng Miwan—’seal’ from blockade, ‘diffuse’ from spread, ‘night’ from evening. I’m a race car driver.”

Ren Queyue nodded. “I see… No wonder.”

Feng Miwan blinked curiously. “No wonder what?”

Ren Queyue: “No wonder you drove that ambulance so fast before.”

Her gaze shifted to Xiong Yibai. “So, Xiong. Yi. Bai—is Little Wan your girlfriend?”

Xiong Yibai gripped the steering wheel, eyes on the road ahead. “Yes.”

Ren Queyue wore a “just as I thought” expression.

“Little Wan, let me tell you—yesterday afternoon, I heard Xiong Yibai say she was single, so I invited her to a singles mixer. Guess what? This morning, she replies: Not single anymore. How long has it even been?! I kept asking what happened, and she straight-up ghosted me—no replies at all!”

Feng Miwan smiled at that. “Maybe… Yibai was just busy…”

Xiong Yibai glanced at Feng Miwan and smiled gently. “Exactly.”

Zhao Shutong scoffed. “Normal people don’t reply to you anyway.”

Ren Queyue turned to her. “Shoo, shoo—mind your own business.”

Zhao Shutong glared back before turning her gaze out the window.

Not long after, Ren Queyue seemed to remember something.

“You sneaky Xiong Yibai! Now I remember! That day we met Little Wan, I even told you to treat her to a meal for me and get her contact info! And you played dead, no response!”

That day, because the ambulance driver suddenly fell ill, Feng Miwan temporarily took over. She utilized her racing skills to speed along in the ambulance, and the people on board exclaimed, "Are you flying a plane?"

Upon arriving at the hospital, she turned and called her good friend Zhao Shutong.

Zhao Shutong: "Where have you been?"

Feng Miwan: "I went racing."

Zhao Shutong: "Your car is still parked perfectly fine here! What did you race with? A shared bike?"

Feng Miwan: "Haha, not a bike—an ambulance."

Zhao Shutong: "…What car? An ambulance?! You raced an ambulance???"

Xiong Yibai recalled her first meeting with Feng Miwan.

Feng Miwan: "By the way, white-clothed angel, my name is Feng Miwan. The Feng from 'seal,' the Mi from 'diffuse,' and the Wan from 'night.'"

Xiong Yibai: "Feng Mi…Wan?"

The words "Honey" flashed through her mind—little Bear just couldn't resist such sweetness.

She praised with intention:

"Mm, nice name."

Fate was never a scripted play.
