Chapter 128: Jealous of a Cat
Xiao Luohan’s words stunned all four of them.
“There’s no such rule!” Dan Yuanyuan, never one to miss a chance to stir things up, and also a firm supporter of Jiang Xue and Xiao Luohan’s relationship, gently pushed Jiang Xue towards Xiao Luohan. “Come on! Be brave and take a picture!”
“What’s there to be brave about?!” Jiang Xue said, amused and exasperated. Holding hands was something they did almost every day, although doing so at school was indeed a rare experience.
She was about to say something to Dan Yuanyuan when she felt a warmth on the back of her hand. Looking down, she saw Xiao Luo’s hand covering hers.
It was impossible not to be nervous. Jiang Xue hurriedly looked around, making sure there were no teachers or gossipy classmates nearby, before breathing a sigh of relief and urging Cang Ling, “We’re holding hands! Take the picture! Then it’s your turn!”
It was definitely not because she wanted to let go quickly!!
Cang Ling slowly replied, “Okay,” found some interesting angles, and took a dozen different pictures, then showed them to the four for “review.” “If they’re not good, we can take a few more.”
Half of the pictures focused on Jiang Xue and Xiao Luohan, while the other half were normal group photos of the four of them.
Jiang Xue hadn’t expected to take such pictures with Xiao Luohan. In some of the photos, they were clearly just talking, but the way Cang Ling captured them, they looked like kissing scenes from movies and TV series, making her blush.
She even tried to negotiate with Xie Xitong. “Maybe… maybe we shouldn’t print those? I’ll just keep the digital copies…”
Xie Xitong hummed. “Sure, then you can print them out together with your wedding photos later.”
Jiang Xue: …
She felt her entire body heat up, her face burning.
She had chosen her friends poorly!!
“I’ll take your solo photos!” Dan Yuanyuan, very satisfied with the pictures, excitedly approached Cang Ling, bringing the gift bag with the speech bubble hair clips and banners. “You can choose one too.”
Cang Ling’s eyes lit up for a moment, then she shook her head vigorously.
“She’s shy, I’ll take the pictures,” Xie Xitong said, taking the camera and the gift bag and putting an arm around Cang Ling. “Come on, let’s discuss what to take. This is different from what we talked about before.”
Cang Ling was a soul, so taking pictures or videos of her directly wouldn’t work. They had to stick a visibility talisman on the camera beforehand, and the photographer also had certain requirements—this was a conclusion Cang Ling herself had reached.
Currently, only Xie Xitong and Grandma Xie met these requirements. The others still needed to be observed.
Cang Ling was dragged away, camera and all. The remaining three exchanged a look and decided to buy some snacks and drinks from the school store before returning to the classroom.
“Although I saw from your M-Station post that you two are dating, when did it start?” Dan Yuanyuan asked on the way.
“This… actually, we’re not sure either,” Jiang Xue said, even more confused than her. “We officially confirmed our relationship around the New Year, but before that, our familial affection, or friendship, might have already changed.”
“Just treat it as us having just started dating,” Xiao Luohan said.
Considering that the fewer people who knew about the time travel, the better, and it was difficult to explain how their bond and feelings had developed, they could only use vague words like this.
Fortunately, Dan Yuanyuan was even more carefree than Xie Xitong and had only asked casually. Seeing that both of them were “too embarrassed” to elaborate, she changed the subject. “Are you hungry? What do you want to eat or drink later? It’s rare for Xiao Luo to come to school, let me treat you!”
It was almost 10:30 AM now, and she was hungry.
Neither Jiang Xue nor Xiao Luohan had decided yet, but as soon as they entered the school store, Xiao Luohan smelled a savory aroma and instinctively looked over, her gaze drawn to the skewers in the small compartments.
“That’s ‘oden,’ a dish from the island nation next door,” Jiang Xue whispered, noticing her gaze. “Do you want some?”
Xiao Luohan leaned in for a closer look at the food on the bamboo skewers, swallowed, and nodded.
So they each bought a cup of oden, while Dan Yuanyuan bought a cup of ice cream. The three sat outside the store and ate.
The steaming oden seemed freshly made, and the broth was more flavorful than usual. Jiang Xue, having just recovered from a cold, felt much better after drinking the hot broth and finishing the fish balls, luncheon meat, “tempura,” and meatballs with seaweed.
Xiao Luohan had also asked for a crab stick, but because of her sensitive taste buds, she immediately tasted the strong seasoning and starch, and it wasn’t as delicious as it looked.
She wasn’t very satisfied and planned to tell Sister Cheng when she got back. Perhaps she would like the homemade version better.
However, occasionally eating this kind of heavily seasoned “street food” with her girlfriend was also an interesting experience.
Before leaving, Xiao Luohan took a bottle of Red Scream and, under Dan Yuanyuan’s shocked gaze, took a few sips, finally masking the taste of the seasoning.
—The real ghost was currently being posed by Xie Xitong.
Cang Ling was actually very photogenic, and perhaps because of her “nature,” she had a gentle aura, like water, easily adapting to whatever Xie Xitong wanted, quickly achieving the desired effect.
After playing with her for a while in a secluded area, Xie Xitong felt that if Cang Ling joined the cosplay community, she would definitely become a popular model for photoshoots.
Unfortunately, Cang Ling was a soul.
“Since you’re here, let’s attend class. We can go to the cafeteria for lunch later, and then go back with Xiao Luo,” Xie Xitong said to Cang Ling as they walked towards the classroom.
“Don’t think I haven’t seen the schedule!” Cang Ling frowned. “The next two classes are English! I don’t want to listen!”
She could even sit through the most boring and difficult math classes, even solving problems with them, but for some reason, she was nowhere to be seen during English classes.
“Then go to the library and sit for a while. We’ll come find you at lunchtime,” Xie Xitong suggested.
Since it was still early, she took Cang Ling to the school library, then returned and told Jiang Xue and Xiao Luohan about it.
Xiao Luohan had been wondering whether to stay with Jiang Xue. After all, it was the final sprint towards the college entrance exam, and they always did practice tests during English class in the morning. She, an auditor without official student status, felt a little awkward sitting in the classroom and reading other books.
Hearing that Cang Ling was already in the library, she immediately stood up. “I’ll go with her.”
There were spacious study desks in the library, perfect for staying until lunchtime.
As the figure in white floated away, Jiang Xue instinctively grabbed Xiao Luohan’s hand.
She didn’t know what she was thinking, her mind feeling as fuzzy as when she had a high fever a few days ago.
Two girls behind them, who were refilling their water bottles, saw this and looked at Jiang Xue in surprise.
Xiao Luohan thought for a moment, then, under their gazes, sat back down and took out the notes she had been memorizing.
She quickly reflected and realized that her actions and words just now might have unintentionally startled Jiang Xue.
Their thought processes didn’t always align. This time, it was her fault. She had been too focused on whether her staying in the classroom would make the teacher uncomfortable and had forgotten that Jiang Xue actually wanted her to stay by her side.
By the time Jiang Xue recovered and was about to say something to Xiao Luo, the girls getting water had already left, but the English teacher had also entered the classroom, organizing the test papers and about to distribute them.
So this small matter had to be put aside for now.
During class, everyone was still working on the practice tests, the classroom silent, only the noise from outside filtering in.
Jiang Xue went to the bathroom. When she returned and saw Xiao Luo diligently working on the problems, she resisted the urge to write her a note.
Finally, when the last morning class ended, Jiang Xue collected the test papers and handed them to the teacher, then hurried back to Xiao Luohan’s side and asked tentatively, “Do you still want to go to the cafeteria with me?”
Xie Xitong, having sensed that something was going on between them since before class, had gone to find Cang Ling as soon as class ended, deliberately giving them some alone time.
“Of course,” Xiao Luohan took her hand. It wasn’t until they were outside the teaching building that she spoke. “Sorry, I wasn’t thinking clearly before.”
This seemed to be something she had learned from Jiang Xue. Sometimes, when Jiang Xue became anxious and spoke harshly, she would apologize like this afterwards.
“Oh! Why are you apologizing to me?!” Jiang Xue was startled. “It was clearly my fault before English class, I acted strangely!”
She had also calmed down and thought about it while doing the practice test. She had probably wanted Xiao Luo to stay and accompany her, but she also understood the reasons why Xiao Luo didn’t want to stay in the classroom, so if it happened again, she would probably just nod and let Xiao Luo leave.
But at the time, she had been driven by her emotions, and with other people watching, she had only grabbed Xiao Luo’s hand, unable to say anything!
For such a small matter, having Xiao Luo apologize to her, Jiang Xue wanted to dig a hole and hide in it!
Before entering the cafeteria, she finally explained everything to Xiao Luohan, adding, “If something similar happens again, I’ll try to control my emotions. There won’t be a next time!”
Xiao Luohan paused, then shook her head with a smile. “There’s no need, just communicating is enough.”
It was truly a small matter. After the college entrance exam, when they officially announced their relationship to everyone, putting aside their studies and learning to be a couple, they would definitely encounter many similar situations.
Adjusting to each other was to understand each other better, not to “smooth out” their individual traits and quirks.
Jiang Xue still felt apologetic. She had thought she was a calm and rational person, but whenever it came to Xiao Luo, especially in public, she seemed to lose her composure.
But encouraged by Xiao Luo’s gaze, she quickly recovered.
What was this? If she didn’t know how to do something, she would just learn! Who was born knowing how to be in a relationship? If there was such a person, it wasn’t her.
So she happily took Xiao Luohan’s hand and went to Old Cat Noodle Shop for lunch.
Perhaps because it hadn’t seen Xiao Luo for so long, the aloof dairy cow cat was exceptionally friendly today. While they were still ordering, it jumped down from the cat tree, came through the small door, its tail held high, and brushed against Xiao Luohan’s leg.
Normally, Jiang Xue would have been happy to see the dairy cow cat being so affectionate towards Xiao Luo, but today, she felt a pang of jealousy. After some hesitation, she squatted down and picked up the cat. “Owner, your Mian Mian is out here.”
