Chapter 269: Master of the Celestial Ship
A few days later, the Supreme Council unexpectedly passed a bill, mandating the Ground-Based Tower Project.
This caused a huge uproar in the Suspended High Towers. The Tower Society and the Abandoned Tower Society led protests, and there were even attempts to storm the Supreme Council.
But these were all suppressed by the Council President, who, usually known for his moderate stance, showed an unprecedented firmness.
And throughout all of this, the Great Sage hadn’t appeared. Even the bill’s presentation in the council was done by the President himself, who emphasized that this was his own decision.
But everyone knew that without the Great Sage’s approval, the President wouldn’t have dared to do this. His position relied on balance and compromise.
While this matter continued to ferment, Ling Ling, with Luo Xue and Su Yiyao, left the Suspended High Tower and returned to the surface.
But they didn’t go directly to the ruins of the previous civilization. They went to another place first.
“This is…”
Luo Xue looked at the dilapidated camp and was momentarily disoriented.
After thirty cycles, three thousand years, this Wastelander settlement, where she had spent over a decade, looked almost the same.
Its dilapidated state seemed like the result of just a couple hundred years of neglect, not three thousand.
“I’ve placed a time-slowing ability here. Of course… it only works on objects, like extending their shelf life.” Ling Ling said softly. “But… three thousand years is still too long.”
Luo Xue didn’t speak. She walked past the burned tents, the rusty pot, the bloodstained cellar, and finally, as usual, sat down before a cluster of small mounds.
These were the graves of her and Ling Ling’s companions who had died in the disasters. And the uncles and aunts who had left to find a new settlement were also long gone.
Her few years of memories, against such a long passage of time…
Ling Ling and Su Yiyao remained silent, not wanting to disturb Luo Xue.
They both knew Luo Xue’s situation, that this older sister who had taken care of them was still… the same as before.
They had grown up, but she hadn’t, still that young girl, not yet fully mature.
“Let’s go.” After a long silence, Luo Xue stood up, turned to them, her gaze calm, and said, “It’s time.”
Ling Ling and Su Yiyao nodded silently, exchanging glances, having reached a tacit understanding.
—A temporary truce, no more… tormenting Luo Xue.
The food Su Yiyao had painstakingly prepared had almost given Luo Xue internal injuries. If not for her being a cultivator, any ordinary person would have been poisoned.
And for Luo Xue, it wasn’t about the poison… but the taste.
To be precise, Su Yiyao had used Ling Ling’s experimental potions as seasonings, creating something akin to a chemical concoction, its complex flavors enough to destroy anyone’s taste buds.
And Luo Xue, not wanting to embarrass Su Yiyao, had forced herself to finish it.
Ling Ling hadn’t eaten any, because she recognized the ingredients… as her own potions…
Su Yiyao hadn’t known this until she excitedly prepared dinner, and Ling Ling quickly stopped her and explained.
As for Ling Ling… although she usually acted like a caring older sister, she mainly… bothered Luo Xue at night, so Luo Xue would simply… disappear when it was time to sleep.
Of course, nothing much happened. Luo Xue would just wake up in Ling Ling’s arms…
Compared to thirty cycles ago, the natural disasters on the surface didn’t seem to have weakened much. Besides the scorching heat of Eternal Day, which reached fifty or sixty degrees Celsius, there were also sandstorms, earthquakes, and mutated beasts.
But these were nothing to them now.
Luo Xue, experiencing the natural disasters firsthand, could sense the terrifying spiritual power within them, each disaster equivalent to an attack from a Nascent Soul cultivator, not to mention the ever-present scorching sun.
And the closer they got to the ruins of the previous civilization, the more frequent the disasters became. In such a violent environment, even Su Yiyao couldn’t use her techniques and abilities, and they could only walk.
After what seemed like a long time, they crossed a certain boundary, and everything became clear.
The scorching heat was gone, the air fresh and clean, without the unpleasant smell of the natural disasters.
However, the surroundings were enveloped in a white light.
“We’re almost at the ruins.” Ling Ling’s expression turned serious. “There’s an illusion formation here. We need to follow a specific path to enter. Follow me…”
“No need.”
Luo Xue interrupted softly, closed her eyes, and when she opened them again, the surrounding formation nodes began to collapse, the white light fading, revealing what lay within.
Ling Ling stared at this in disbelief. It had taken her decades to break through this illusion, but Luo Xue had done it in just a few breaths.
Seeing Ling Ling’s surprise, Su Yiyao explained, “The formation nodes here are already very weak, Ah Chou could easily find their weak points and destroy them.”
“If it were a complete formation, it would probably take a few hours.”
“…”
Ling Ling was silent. As expected, professional matters should be left to professionals…
Luo Xue, however, was preoccupied, looking at what lay beyond the dissipating white light, and upon seeing the familiar celestial ship, she sighed.
“So… it’s really like this…”
Just as she guessed, it was a complete celestial ship, a “living” one, identical to the five dead ships in the Primordial Chaos.
The only difference was that this celestial ship wasn’t dead, just dormant, the flickering formation lights showing that it was still intact.
But for some reason, the previous civilization hadn’t used this ship to leave this world, but chose another method.
And judging by the active formations, this celestial ship was probably still in standby mode, they couldn’t just enter like they did with the ones in the Primordial Chaos.
Fortunately, Luo Xue had prepared and didn’t have to worry about how to enter.
Ling Ling’s previous explorations hadn’t gone beyond the outer deck, so she knew almost nothing about this massive relic.
“Let’s go to the central control room first.” Luo Xue said in a deep voice. “There should be a log there, so we can at least know… what happened to this ship from another world.”
Ling Ling and Su Yiyao naturally had no objections and followed Luo Xue towards the ship’s entrance.
When they reached the entrance, several formations within the ship suddenly activated, and Ling Ling became slightly anxious, while Su Yiyao, her guard up, condensed her power.
Luo Xue raised her hand to calm them, then infused a bit of spiritual power into the formations.
Soon, the flickering formations stopped, and the hatch slowly opened.
“Actually, any spiritual power would do. This ship was used for escape, the verification procedure is just to prevent demonic beasts or other creatures from entering, normal spiritual power can bypass it.” Luo Xue explained.
There were similar formations on Immortal Slaughter, she recognized them.
“I see.” Ling Ling nodded, relieved.
She had only explored the outer deck before and hadn’t encountered this verification procedure.
And if it were just her, it wouldn’t be a problem, but it was Luo Xue who triggered it, which made her nervous.
Stepping inside, Luo Xue saw the same things she had seen in the dead celestial ships, but since this ship was just dormant, the formations along the way were operating at a minimal level.
Three thousand years was a long time for ordinary humans, but for high-level cultivators, it was just a “while,” so time hadn’t eroded these formations.
Ling Ling was seeing this kind of ship for the first time. A large part of its internal structure was made of special materials refined through immortal methods, jade and gemstones everywhere, each with a specific function.
This technology, far more advanced than the Suspended High Towers, fascinated Ling Ling, but Luo Xue, in a hurry, didn’t give her much time to study it and headed straight for the control room.
The ship’s interior was much more spacious than it appeared from the outside, different cabins connected by spatial formations, using teleportation for travel.
Its complexity would require hundreds of years to fully understand, even Li Guijiao would struggle.
Therefore, Luo Xue could only follow the path she remembered, and after passing through several cabins, she finally reached the teleportation formation to the control room.
But unlike the dead celestial ships, the control room here was still functional. As Luo Xue and the others stepped onto the teleportation formation, the familiar flickering lights appeared.
“This time… it’s not just ordinary spiritual power, is it?” Su Yiyao asked.
“…I don’t know.”
Luo Xue frowned slightly. She hadn’t seen this formation on Immortal Slaughter, and the fallen celestial ships were all inactive.
However… it seemed to be just a normal verification formation. Luo Xue, after a moment of thought, infused a bit of spiritual power into it.
The flickering lights dimmed, and the teleportation formation activated.
“It worked!”
Luo Xue was surprised. Even the teleportation formation to the control center could be so easily activated. Was the security inside the celestial ship… this lax?
Ling Ling and Su Yiyao were also puzzled, but the teleportation formation seemed normal, and so did its destination.
Just as they were about to be teleported, Su Yiyao, out of curiosity, also infused a bit of her spiritual power into the formation.
And as they vanished, the verification formation suddenly glowed red, alarms blaring.
But Luo Xue and the others, having entered the celestial ship’s control center, were unaffected. After a moment of disorientation, they arrived in a spacious room.
Everything was the same as what Luo Xue had seen in the fallen celestial ship, the only difference being the active formations, even the disaster engine was intact, resting in the center.
This made Luo Xue even more puzzled. This celestial ship was clearly functional, why did the previous civilization abandon it here?
“I’ll check the navigation log first.” Luo Xue said in a deep voice. “You two prepare. If I encounter any danger, take me away immediately.”
She intended to use her understanding of Immortal Slaughter’s formations to bypass the ship’s security and access its core information.
Ling Ling and Su Yiyao nodded seriously, activating their powers, on high alert.
In this tense atmosphere, Luo Xue approached the control center, closed her eyes, and placed her hand on it.
A faint spiritual power fluctuation spread, and Luo Xue carefully sensed the surrounding formation nodes, trying to disrupt them.
But the moment her consciousness touched these nodes, the formations activated automatically, and the dim control center lit up.
“Unknown authority detected, initiating identification.”
A cold, ethereal female voice echoed, startling Su Yiyao and Ling Ling.
They immediately rushed forward, trying to pull Luo Xue, who was meditating, away.
But just then, the cold voice rang out again.
“Identity confirmed—Supreme Authority Holder, access granted to all data.”
At the same time, Luo Xue opened her eyes, her expression filled with shock and confusion.
Facing the two who were trying to pull her away, Luo Xue raised her hand and stopped them.
“I’m fine,” Luo Xue’s expression was strange and serious, “This is… what’s going on? How…”
“Sister Xue’er/Ah Chou, what’s wrong?”
Ling Ling and Su Yiyao looked at Luo Xue with concern.
“I seem to be… the master of this celestial ship?” Luo Xue scratched the back of her head. “Anyway, I can access the navigation log now, and not just that…”
