Chapter 55: Clubs
“You’re Senior An Lin’s sister? We never heard him say he had a sister. He never mentioned it to us.”
The boy with thick eyebrows and big eyes looked at the well-behaved girl sitting in front of him, who was so nervous she barely dared to breathe. He couldn’t believe that the sunny and cheerful senior would have such a shy sister.
“Da Zhuang, get lost. Don’t scare the little girl.” A girl with short hair and pretty features pushed the boy away. “Look at her eyes. She really looks like An Lin. Besides, why would she lie about something like this?”
“Y-Yes, my brother said this was his old club and asked me to come and see it.”
An Zhi’s watery, deer-like eyes were wide, but her voice was pitifully small. She kept her hands in her pockets, surrounded by people, like a little white rabbit surrounded by big monsters. “My name is An Zhi. An Lin is my brother.”
“An Zhi? What a beautiful name. And you’re so cute.”
The girl’s eyes sparkled. She smiled and pinched the soft flesh on An Zhi’s cheek. “Your family has good genes. You really look like Senior An Lin’s sister.”
“Wuwu~ How should I address you… senior sister?” An Zhi whimpered reluctantly as her cheeks were being kneaded.
“Me? Just call me Sister Hong.”
“Okay, Sister Hong.”
An Zhi escaped from Nie Hong’s clutches and rubbed her flushed cheeks, smiling shyly. “Well… if there’s nothing else, I’ll be going now.”
“Where are you going, little An Zhi? It’s not right to leave as soon as you arrive.” Nie Hong put her arm around An Zhi’s shoulder, and her short legs, which were trying to escape, could only stomp on the spot.
“I still have something to ask you.”
“Go ahead, Sister Hong. I’ll tell you everything I know.”
An Zhi obediently turned around and looked at Nie Hong’s kind smile, not daring to make any rash moves.
“It’s nothing.” Nie Hong licked her lips, a mischievous smile on her face. “Your brother has been graduated for a year now. Has he found a girlfriend?”
“Oh, yes. My brother met my sister-in-law not long after he graduated. He even brought her home last year.”
An Zhi nodded and giggled, even though Da Zhuang was staring at her and winking at her. But the little white rabbit still didn’t recognize the dangerous atmosphere and continued to introduce her sister-in-law. “My sister-in-law is very beautiful, and she’s very gentle.”
“Crack…”
“Huh? Sister Hong, what’s wrong?”
“Nothing.” Nie Hong hid the broken pen behind her back and forced a gentle smile. “So, An Zhi, tell me, who is prettier, me or your sister-in-law? Who is more gentle?”
“Cough cough…” Da Zhuang coughed desperately.
“Well…” An Zhi tilted her head and thought for a moment. “Um… it’s better not to compare. Sister Hong is very pretty too.”
Da Zhuang immediately came to the rescue. “Alright, Nie Hong. Since the senior already has a girlfriend, you should just let it go.”
“Who asked for your opinion? I’m just a little upset that I lost. But am I the kind of person who can’t handle losing?” Nie Hong glared at Da Zhuang, then turned to An Zhi, smiling at the girl’s innocent and naive expression. “An Zhi, since your brother was in our youth association, why don’t you… stay with us too?”
“Huh? But I…”
An Zhi was stunned. Her brother had just asked her to say hello to his old friends. Joining a club… she had no intention of doing so. She knew it was a volunteer association, but she could barely take care of herself…
“No buts. Since the senior introduced his sister to us, we have no reason not to accept her.”
Da Zhuang shouted loudly, as if full of hope, attracting the attention of many youth association members who were handing out flyers nearby.
“We welcome you, Junior An Zhi.”
“I… I…” An Zhi’s face flushed red, the stares of the people around her burning. She wanted to curse her brother for calling her here. Why was everyone so presumptuous?
“Okay, I understand.”
An Zhi looked pitiful and reluctantly nodded.
“Then it’s time to start business.”
“Business? What do you mean?” An Zhi looked at Nie Hong, who was slowly approaching her, and took two steps back warily.
“Oh, I forgot to tell you. Your Sister Hong… is also in the anime club.”
Nie Hong was heartbroken, so she was a bit unhappy. Looking at An Zhi, who was slowly being cornered, she touched the girl’s sweet and cute face, as if she had discovered a blank canvas.
Forget it. I’ll just consider this a gift from you, An Lin.
…
“We’re not playing games, so why did you have to drag me out?”
Su Yu scratched his messy hair and reluctantly followed Gu Chuan to the plaza.
“These past few days… there have been a lot of club recruitment booths in the plaza. It’s quite lively. Let’s go check it out.”
“What about those two? Why did you have to torture me?”
“Old Lu is in the student union, and Chu Feng is busy with his part-time job and isn’t interested in this. So it’s just you, right? You should expand your horizons too.”
“Do you have a club you want to join? You? Aren’t your interests all about women? You probably won’t find a suitable club for you here.” Su Yu sneered, clearly not believing Gu Chuan’s excuse.
“Who says? I’m going to the light music club. I’m going to sign up now.”
“You play music?”
“Didn’t Xiaoxiao form a band? I’m going to check it out for her.”
“Tsk tsk, why are you so nice to Luo Xiaoxiao?” Su Yu looked at Gu Chuan with suspicion. “You’re not… interested in her?”
“Of course not. How could I be with her? I’m not even worthy of carrying her shoes. I’m just paving the way for the future. To put it bluntly, I’m just sucking up to her.”
“What do you mean?”
“Do you know who Luo Xiaoxiao is? She’s the young lady of the Luo family, the most beloved granddaughter of the Luo family head. She’s even higher up than Gu Zhi.”
Gu Chuan rolled his eyes. Although it sounded bad, he didn’t hide it. “I can do poorly in my studies. At worst, I can take over my dad’s business in the future. But if I offend someone I shouldn’t offend, hehe…”
“Oh, that’s impressive.”
Su Yu nodded. He wasn’t interested in these things, and it didn’t have much to do with him. Everyone has their own expertise. He would never be as good as Gu Chuan in these social games, even in a second life.
“I still need your help with something.” Gu Chuan nudged Su Yu, his expression serious.
“What is it?”
“You’re not going back for National Day, right? Xiaoxiao is planning to hold a concert at school. Old Lu and Chu Feng don’t know Xiaoxiao well, and you know her temper. Can you go and check on her for me then?”
Su Yu raised his eyebrows. “What about you?”
“I have a family dinner that day. I didn’t want to go, but my name is on the list, so I can’t get out of it.”
“Fine, but I still don’t understand why you dragged me here.”
“I have to say hello to Xiaoxiao first. Otherwise, if she finds out I sent someone else, I can’t guarantee what will happen when she gets angry.”
“Luo Xiaoxiao is also recruiting new members?”
“You don’t get it. A pretty face is the most important thing for recruiting new members!” Gu Chuan pouted. “You’re so clueless.”
A flyer was suddenly handed to them. A soft, sweet voice, laced with a hint of shyness.
“Um… please learn about the youth association. Welcome, meow~”
“An Zhi?”
Su Yu and Gu Chuan looked at the girl’s outfit and were stunned.
“Ah, Su Yu?” The girl looked up, her watery eyes instantly becoming dazed. She recited her numb lines, “Meow?”
