Chapter 116: Landing
On the last day of the holiday, the ingredients in the refrigerator were running out. They had agreed to go to the wet market together the next morning. Su Yu got up very early. The alarm he had set had not yet had a chance to go off when he had turned it off. The first thing he did when he opened his eyes was to subconsciously look at the side of the pillow.
The pillow was empty. A small tuft of dark black hair was on the snow-white pillowcase. Of course, it was not his. The hair was very long, and the ends were slightly split and yellow. The quality of the hair seemed to have become not very good for some reason. They were in the hollow of the pillow, and there was still a lingering warmth on the fabric.
He ruffled his messy and thick hair with some annoyance. It had grown a little long without him realizing it. The ends of his hair were on the back of his neck, and the hard black stubble was slightly upturned.
She had still woken up so early on these two days of vacation. Had she woken up early… or had she not slept at all?
Perhaps it was because of his morning grumpiness, but some baseless thoughts suddenly rushed into his mind, making him more and more anxious.
Su Yu lifted the blanket and got out of bed. He pulled open the tightly closed curtains, and the dazzling sunlight shone through the thick and heavy clouds, and it fell gently on his face. A square silhouette was cast on the mahogany floor behind him. He was framed in it, and the whole house was like a narrow and cramped cage.
He turned off the air conditioner in the bedroom and left the room. He had just buttoned the collar of his shirt when he bumped into Xia Qiange, who was walking out of the kitchen with breakfast. Their gazes met. She was only wearing a very thin, dark green undershirt, and she was wearing a pink apron underneath. Her hair was also messy. The strange color combination made her look a little lazy and casual.
But she rarely had such a time when she did not pay attention to her appearance. Su Yu walked up to her with some curiosity and took the plate from her hand. He was stunned to find that she had actually gotten up early to put on makeup.
The pink and white base was on her face, and her lips were also painted with lipstick. It was too bright, as if it had been smeared with chili oil. She looked up at him, and the dark black eyeshadow was on her eyelids, which made her eyelashes look slender and long, and her eyes were deep. She was still beautiful, but her makeup was too thick, and it had torn apart her usual plain and gentle appearance. In a daze, she had fallen into the mortal world, and she was bright and charming, and vulgar.
“Why are you wearing makeup?”
Su Yu was a little not used to the Xia Qiange in front of him. He reached out in a daze, but his hand was held before it could land on her cheek. He almost thought that the cold wind had rushed in through the closed window. The coldness that was transmitted from his palm was a little prickly. His fingertips were slightly pink, and his jade-like, translucent palm had clear lines, and it had slid into the gap between his fingers.
“I need it for work. I have to go to work tomorrow. I thought that if a person can’t grow up quickly, at least they should make themselves look a little more mature. What… are you not used to it?”
“Yeah, a little not used to it.” Su Yu held Xia Qiange’s hand in return, and he slightly bent his neck and pressed his forehead against hers. “But I like you in any way. As long as you are always Xia Qiange.”
“Haha… what are you thinking about?
Xia Qiange suddenly withdrew her hand and smoothed the messy hair on her forehead when they were intimate. She turned her head away, and her fair and white earlobes were a faint pink. “You’re so glib. Where did you learn that? How many girls have you said that to?”
“I’ve only said it to you…” Su Yu grabbed her hand, which she had quickly withdrawn, and held it tightly in his palm. “Now it is… and it will be in the future.”
“I know. Let go quickly. You’re hurting me.”
Xia Qiange lowered her gaze and stared at his heaving chest. Her voice was as light as a gentle and soft wind, and it had dispelled the stuffiness that had accumulated in his chest when he had woken up early.
“Let’s go and eat. The porridge will get cold if we delay any longer.”
“Shall we go and buy groceries after we’ve eaten?” He was still holding her and refused to let go, and he was like a child, repeatedly confirming. “We’ve agreed…”
“Yeah, we’ll go in a while.”
She comforted his slightly trembling hand because of his happiness and promised very seriously.
…
The days after he had come to the capital were very busy, and the two of them had rarely gone out together. His knowledge of the prosperity and liveliness of the capital was only limited to this old and backward urban area near the neighborhood.
Xia Qiange had to be busy preparing for the interview, which was very important to her, and she had no time to take care of the house. The burden of tidying up the new house had fallen on him. But he felt that there was no need to be so hardworking. But Xia Qiange was very persistent in making their lives better.
He couldn’t find a reason to refute her. So the two of them could only be busy with their own things during that time. When they were free again, his floating heart had suddenly settled down, and he had rarely proposed to go out again.
Now that he thought about it, it was just that he had been too concerned about this hard-won relationship at that time. His fragile heart was always hanging high in the sky, as if it would fall to the ground and be shattered in a moment if he was not careful.
Su Yu pushed a cart that the supermarket had given him when he had bought oil and went out first. He looked back at the elevator and saw Xia Qiange closing the door behind him. Then she ran a few steps to catch up with him. The two of them looked at each other and smiled, and they walked into the elevator, which had already been waiting, side by side.
The enclosed iron box was suddenly closed, and the sound of the rope sliding was heard in the quiet atmosphere. Su Yu lowered his head and silently counted the distance between his and the girl’s toes. It was probably just one or two steps, and he could reach her with just a stretch of his hand. His palm began to secrete sweat.
The height of a few floors was fleeting, and it stopped steadily on the first floor. With a click, the iron door popped open, and the fresh and cold air instantly rushed in. He squeezed his fingertips and expelled the turbid air from his chest. He had just taken a step when a warm and soft hand was suddenly stuffed into his palm.
A few scattered footsteps were heard from the entrance of the corridor, and the sound of someone talking was approaching them.
Su Yu froze, and his heart was pounding in his chest, and his ribs were aching. But his thoughts were so slow that he couldn’t react. He was simply happy because of this. So outside, in front of others, she wouldn’t dislike him…
He really shouldn’t have had these baseless suspicions. Out of guilt, he held her hand a little neurotically, tighter and tighter, afraid that happiness would just slip away. He didn’t even notice that the girl next to him was frowning in pain.
They were just holding each other’s hands and walking out of the narrow corridor. The warm and dazzling sunlight was pouring down, and it was stretching their shadows. They were walking on the small path of the square, and they were facing a wide and straight road.
On one side was a stream of traffic, and on the other side was the girl’s light breathing. “Why are you always looking at me? Is there something dirty on my face?”
A pressure suddenly came from his shoulder. Xia Qiange slowly turned her head and looked at him. She looked sideways and saw his lush black hair and his long and narrow, dark black eyelashes.
Su Yu also looked at her in a daze, staring at her dark and deep eyes. Her eyes seemed to be able to speak, telling him that he had already fallen.
“N-Nothing.” He shook his head and denied it at the first moment.
Love really always makes people stupid.
He bit his lip and secretly laughed at himself.
A heart had finally and steadily landed.
