Chapter 11: Rushing
The cooperation was much simpler than Su Yu had imagined. The colleague from the company had just arrived, and the next day they had gone to talk to the other party about cooperation. He had originally thought that it would be a tough battle. He was waiting outside, and the documents were crumpled in his hand, and then he had let go and had smoothed them.
He had entered the conference room and had met them. The other party was so kind that it was ridiculous. He had looked at the documents, had signed them, had said a few words of a happy cooperation, and had not seen them off… it was almost in one go, and it had completely broken the original psychological expectation of a long and hard battle.
The colleague who was with him was stunned. He had said that this was the easiest business deal he had ever had in his life, and it was such a large share. It was as if a pie had fallen from the sky and had hit him on the head. He was so excited that he had pulled Su Yu and had said that he would treat him tonight.
Su Yu had said okay, but his whole person was still in a daze. He was also surprised, but he didn’t have many clues.
The colleague had called a few local friends to come and join them. There were men and women, and after a dinner party of seven or eight people, they had gone to a KTV.
They were toasting and drinking, and the dim and unclear private room was filled with lights and wine. The colleague was happy that he had gotten this big order, and he was singing one song after another. He was holding a heavily made-up girl in his arms, and they were exchanging glances. But Su Yu remembered that he seemed to have a girlfriend who was about to get married.
Su Yu was sitting in a corner of the sofa, and his expression was a little uneasy. The pounding of the speakers was making his ears feel stuffy, and he was a little wanting to go back.
The colleague had asked him if he wanted to sing a few songs. He had shaken his head and had finished a glass of wine and was going to the bathroom.
He had left the private room and had washed his face at the sink. He didn’t really want to go back. He was looking at the thick night outside the window in a daze. Many people were gathered in the corridor, smoking. The smell of alcohol, the smell of smoke, were mixed in the enclosed space, and it was very pungent. It was in his chest, and after a while, he was dizzy.
The few years of a blank had completely worn away his pursuit of fame and fortune. Now he just wanted to be ordinary, and to be safe. But after he had started to work, there were inevitably all kinds of social engagements, and his work was also busy. He had very little time at home. He also tried his best to avoid developing towards a position that required a lot of social engagements, even though those promotions were faster. But the beginning was always difficult. He needed a good resume to free up more time in the future to pave the way for his life.
This was not simple. He had to endure the lights and wine, but the most difficult part had already passed. There was no reason to shrink back.
Coming out of the restroom, a girl from somewhere bumped into him at the corner. Su Yu apologized in a low voice. The girl was dressed provocatively, large patches of her snow-white skin exposed, her perfume rich and alluring. With nowhere else to put his hands, he had to hold her shoulders to gently create some distance. Only then did he see her bewitching and beautiful face in the drunken haze of the lanterns. Her features were somewhat familiar.
“You are?”
The girl introduced herself generously, “My name is Song Ni.”
“Oh, you’re that high school classmate.”
Su Yu immediately remembered. He chatted with her outside for a few minutes, and they slowly became familiar.
Song Ni was a generous and enthusiastic girl. The corners of her eyes were drawn long, charming and alluring. She licked her lips and asked him a little shyly, “So… do you want to exchange contact information?”
“I also saw you inside with…”
“Just playing around with him…” Her gaze suddenly became aggressive, like a tiger or leopard entering a hunting state. Her eyes unabashedly scanned his features, his waist… a tickling sensation in her heart, her senses blurred, wanting something to happen.
Sparks fell from between her fingers, smoke drifting past her cloudy, lust-filled eyes, a savage desire growing. “With you, it’s serious, hmm?”
“No.” Out of respect for their acquaintance, Su Yu didn’t want to expose her. It was better to be direct now. “Have fun. I’m leaving.”
The woman exhaled a puff of smoke, watching him enter the private room and then leave directly a moment later. She sighed with some disappointment.
His features were handsome without being effeminate, his voice gentle, his personality calm and kind. She had finally met a man who was fatal to her, but it seemed someone had already claimed him.
…
He had taken the last bus of the night. The old and dilapidated car was not very crowded. The air conditioner was on and was making a whirring sound. There was no moon in the clouds. The dim yellow light was under the shadows of the trees, and the figures were getting longer and longer. Behind him was a night of endless lights and wine, alcohol, and desire…
Suddenly… he was a little wanting to go back. It was very strange.
Su Yu was sitting in the last row, and his head was on the yellowed car window. His gaze was out of focus.
He had called Xia Qiange, and after a while, the call had connected. This was a rare occurrence.
The voice on the other end was a little noisy. He had frowned and had asked her what she was doing.
Xia Qiange: “I’m shopping at the mall.”
“It’s already dark. Are you alone?”
“I’m hungry. I’ll go out and have a bite. I’ll also take a walk.”
“That’s good.” He had lowered his eyes, and the dark black asphalt road under the light was plated with a golden foil. He had paused for a moment and had suddenly asked again, “What did you eat?”
“I…”, Xia Qiange had choked, and the noise in the phone had suddenly disappeared. “I had hot pot.”
“You had hot pot alone?”, he was a little confused.
“I was craving for it.” She had immediately taken the initiative, and her voice was aggrieved. “But isn’t it because someone is not with me?”
“My work is almost over. It might not even be a month.”
“Yeah, yeah. I know.”
“Then… you should go back early. It’s not safe outside at night.”
Su Yu had licked his dry lips and had hesitated for a few seconds.
The bus had arrived at the station. He had stood up and had walked to the door of the car. The retractable door had opened with a clatter. The evening wind was mixed with a cold air, and it had made him shiver. He had shrunk his neck. “Turn up the air conditioner when you sleep. It’s easy to catch a cold.”
She had said okay readily, and the phone had been hung up.
Su Yu had messed up his hair, and the uneven bangs were under his eyes, and they were dim. His eyelashes were trembling in the wind.
He had also wanted to say that he could actually go back early. It didn’t matter if he left the rest of the work to his colleagues.
…
He didn’t know if it was because of the alcohol, but he was very sleepy after he had gone back. His eyelids were trembling, and he couldn’t open them.
Su Yu had fallen on the bed without taking off his clothes. He had played with his phone for a while and had asked a few friends. He had roughly known that the company that had cooperated with them so smoothly had a background of the Gu family. But it was not much. It was a marginal person who had come here to open it.
He had also checked the villa. The day before yesterday, it had already been sold at a low price.
Su Yu had stared at the screen for a long time. He was so tired that he couldn’t hold it in. His head was hot. He had been thinking of turning off the air conditioner, and he had accidentally fallen asleep in a daze.
He had been woken up by the cold. The temperature difference between day and night here was very large. When he had woken up, he was so cold that his nerves were trembling. He had sneezed a few times before he had turned off the air conditioner with a trembling hand.
He had touched his forehead, and it was burning hot. It seemed that he had a little fever. It was in the middle of the night, and the downstairs was dark. The streetlights were giving off a dim light, and a few scattered people were passing by.
The pharmacy was probably also closed. He had to have a rider deliver it.
People seemed to be very sensitive when they were sick. Their mental defense was as fragile as glass. The lights in the house were very dim, and it was so quiet that he could only hear the wind scraping against the window. His heart was pounding.
His mind was empty for a long time, and then he had fallen back. He had turned over and had covered himself with the blanket, and he was ready to continue to sleep.
The doorbell had rung at this moment. Su Yu had sat up with a confused look. He had been thinking that he had not yet called a rider. He had opened his phone app and had looked at it a few times to confirm that he was not already so feverish that his nerves were in a mess.
He had walked to the door and had looked out through the peephole.
He had seen the person who had come, and his whole person was completely in a mess.
The girl was waiting by the wall, and by her side was a large suitcase that was up to her waist. She was wearing a pink undershirt, jeans, and white sneakers.
Her long hair was drooping with a light and thin bangs, and the ends of her hair were slightly curled. Her skin was very white, and the corners of her dark black eyes were well-behaved. Her forehead was on the wall, and her eyelids were slightly closed. She was a little tired, but she could not hide the joy in her eyes.
A little cat that had come to knock on his door at night.
The next second, Su Yu had lowered his head and had unlocked the lock, and he had pushed open the door.
He had looked at the little girl, who was standing there obediently. Her eyes were filled with a dark green from her rushing. Her forehead seemed to be even hotter, as if she were in a dream.
The wind was in the corridor, and it had also messed up her hair. The light above her head was flickering, and her vision was a little blurry.
After two or three steps, she had smiled and had run towards him. A very cold hand was on his wrist, and a soft and gentle voice was in his ear.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t listen to you this time.”
His feet had not moved, and his lips were slightly parted. “Why are you here?”
She had raised her head, and a pair of eyes that were filled with moisture. “Because… I missed you.”
