Chapter 89: Epilogue – Proposal p1
A faint light of dawn.
Jiang Youshu stood under the locust tree at the entrance of the residential complex, gently patting Jiang Mi’s face. “You must rest. Don’t be too tired.”
Jiang Mi’s eyes were slightly red. Time seemed to have disappeared in an instant. The daylight was getting brighter, shining on her mother’s face, on her hair, and so the white hair at her temples was even more obvious.
She stepped forward and hugged Jiang Youshu. “Your foot is not good. Don’t stand for too long, and don’t walk too much.”
Jiang Youshu’s hand gently stroked Jiang Mi’s back. “I know. You just take good care of yourself. Don’t worry about me. I’m fine at home.”
Jiang Mi hummed, “Okay.”
“Let Yan Wei also take care of her body. Come back when you’re free.” Jiang Youshu glanced at the car on the roadside. It was not convenient for Yan Wei to get out, so she could only say goodbye to Jiang Youshu from the car.
Jiang Mi replied on Yan Wei’s behalf, “Okay.”
She didn’t dare to say too much, afraid that if she said any more, she would cry in front of Jiang Youshu.
She was reluctant to leave Jiang Youshu, reluctant to leave the home-cooked meals, reluctant to leave the warm quilt that had been sun-dried for her, reluctant to leave every doting look from Jiang Youshu.
Jiang Hu sighed from the side. “If you don’t leave now, you’ll be stuck in traffic.”
Only then did Jiang Mi say goodbye to Jiang Youshu. Before she left, she glanced at Jiang Hu and said awkwardly, “You should be careful too.”
Hearing this, Jiang Hu laughed. “Oh, it’s not easy to get your concern.”
Jiang Mi couldn’t be bothered to talk to her anymore.
Just as she was about to get in the car, she heard Jiang Hu from a few steps behind her, “Call me if you need anything.”
Jiang Mi lowered her head. “I know.”
Jiang Mi and Yan Wei were going to different cities, so the two cars merged into the morning rush hour traffic one after the other.
Jiang Mi was leaning in the back seat, still a little immersed in the atmosphere of parting. Her phone vibrated slightly in her palm.
Yan Wei’s voice came through the receiver, “Tell the driver to pull over.”
Jiang Mi looked ahead. The front car’s hazard lights were flashing. She said to the driver, “Master, follow the car in front and pull over.”
“What’s wrong?” Jiang Mi asked.
Yan Wei said, “You’ll know in a bit.”
The call was not hung up. Yan Wei asked, “Are you sad?”
“A little reluctant,” Jiang Mi said. “It’s always like this. The time at home is always so short. Most importantly, I can’t be with you. Soon, we’ll be in two different places again.”
Yan Wei was silent for a moment. “This was a previous job. The arrangements for the future are all around you. It will be convenient to meet then.”
Hearing this, Jiang Mi felt a little guilty. “It’s clearly the same job, but you have to accommodate me. Teacher Yan, I’m not holding you back, am I?”
“Don’t worry. You’re not at that level yet.” Yan Wei let out a soft laugh.
She continued, “I can’t be separated from you for too long. If it’s too long, there will be problems.”
Yan Wei saw further than Jiang Mi.
Her personality would not become cheerful and sociable with time. On the contrary, because she had someone like Jiang Mi, she was even more annoyed with other people.
She wouldn’t feel that making friends outside of work would be an easy and pleasant thing for her.
And Jiang Mi was different.
Jiang Mi liked to make friends, and even, it was very easy for her to attract friends.
For a short time, a year, two years, Jiang Mi might not ignore her because of these external attractions. But one day, they would be separated for a long time, or because they met less often, and a distance would be created.
She would have a temper tantrum with Jiang Mi because of these things, and even the bad habits in her bones would come out again and again.
She would want to control Jiang Mi.
She might even do some things that would make Jiang Mi unhappy—she couldn’t guarantee it.
It could be said that Yan Wei did not trust herself.
So no matter if Jiang Mi could accept a long-distance relationship or meeting less often, she could not accept it.
She would change this situation. No matter what means or method, she had to change it.
Jiang Mi didn’t know what Yan Wei was thinking in her heart. “Mmm… it’s easy to have problems. I’ll discuss it with you when I have work later. It’s best if we can be together.”
“If you like something, just do it. You don’t have to worry about me.”
“That won’t do…” Jiang Mi said with a smile. “Besides, if I really don’t care, you’ll be unhappy then.”
“I’ll naturally go to you.”
Hearing this, Jiang Mi was silent for a moment.
At this moment, the car happened to stop.
The car window rolled down, and an assistant brought a velvet box.
Yan Wei whispered in her ear, “This is for you. Open it and see.”
The car started again. Jiang Mi lowered her head and opened it. It was a thin gold bracelet with a small and exquisite pendant in the center—a small sun.
Jiang Mi’s fingers gently stroked it. “That day, you said you had a gift for me, but you never gave it to me. I was wondering.”
She touched it lovingly. “And then I was too embarrassed to ask you.”
“You can ask,” Yan Wei’s voice was suddenly closer, like a whisper in her ear. “You can ask anything.”
Jiang Mi then asked with a smile, “Then, will you miss me?”
The other end of the line was silent for a moment. “I will. I’ll miss you a lot.”
“Me too. Weiwei, we have to meet soon.”
“Okay.”
**
Time flew by. Three months passed in a flash, and a new year quietly arrived.
The sunlight shone through the glass window, casting a faint warmth in the makeup room of the Trial Love variety show. The temperature in January had completely dropped, and the weather forecast said that it had already started to snow in some places.
The makeup room was warmly heated, and a wave of drowsiness came over Jiang Mi. She had stayed up all night last night. At two in the morning, she had received a call from Yan Wei and found out that the other party had also just finished work.
The second half of the night, she had fallen asleep while on the phone with Yan Wei. When she woke up in the morning and heard the voice on the other end asking her good morning, she had even asked, “Will I not have a wife when I come back from recording today?”
This was the first time they had used this form of address.
Yan Wei clearly paused. “What did you call me?”
“Wife.”
After Spring went online, they had both gained a lot of wife fans. Every day, when she went online, she would see countless wives, whether in her own comments or in other video comments.
Jiang Mi wasn’t very resistant, but because of her relationship with Yan Wei, she always felt that it was a little strange.
Just now, she had just tried to call her that. If Yan Wei had been by her side at that time, she would have definitely come and pinched her red ears.
“Can I call you that?” Jiang Mi asked with a grin. “Wife?”
Yan Wei: “You can.”
Jiang Mi heard the smile in Yan Wei’s voice.
She said, “So you’re really not angry? You really agree for me to go?”
“Mmm, I agree,” Yan Wei’s tone was very calm.
“Then I have to tell you first. Besides me, there’s also a mysterious guest today. You’ll see her on TV later. We’ll chat for a while, and then we might have a meal. At most, that’s it, because I’m only recording for two episodes. Then the program team will explain that it’s not a CP segment, but to invite friends to experience this program. By the second episode, I’ll take the initiative to explain…”
Yan Wei suddenly interrupted Jiang Mi, “Mimi.”
Jiang Mi: “Huh?”
“No need to explain so much. I know. I won’t be jealous.” Yan Wei let out a low laugh on the other end. “The more you explain, the more guilty you are.”
“I’m not. I’m just afraid of not taking your feelings into account.”
That sentence was a little meaningful. “I won’t be angry. You can go… perform well.”
The air was filled with the faint smell of foundation and various cosmetics.
At this moment, Jiang Mi was sitting in front of the makeup mirror, letting the stylist do her hair. In her heart, she still felt a little unreal—Yan Wei would actually agree for her to participate in this program.
“To be honest, I’m also very shocked,” Zhao Jia leaned against the door, holding a schedule in her hand, and confirmed the contract terms again in front of Jiang Mi.
Jiang Mi looked at herself in the mirror and nodded slightly. “Maybe because it’s only two episodes as a guest, she thinks it won’t have much of an impact.”
Her fingertips slid across the phone screen, and it was still on the voice record with Yan Wei from this morning.
For this participation, the program team had clearly stated that they would not force a CP pairing, and the company also believed that this would be very helpful for the promotion of Spring. Thinking of the popularity record that Spring had set on the first day it went online, Jiang Mi let out a light breath. It was indeed a good opportunity to increase her popularity.
Most importantly, Yan Wei had nodded—although she knew that if the program really had an intimate segment, Yan Wei would never have let her go so easily. After all, even for a faked kissing scene in a drama, Yan Wei would repeatedly scrutinize the camera.
Thinking of this, Jiang Mi’s heart relaxed again. Before she left, she even sent a message to Yan Wei, “I miss you~ my dear wife.”
There was no harm in being sweet.
The rules for the second episode of Trial Love were quite ingenious.
The program team had invited a mysterious guest and asked them to hide their identity and interact with the other guests. But this was the original rule for the audience. After filming began, the program team would announce again that there would be another mysterious guest today. Before interacting with the other guests, the two mysterious guests would interact first.
Jiang Mi would show surprise at the right time, and then chat normally, using the questions from the program team to ask…
Jiang Mi chose a white rabbit mask and a fluffy one-piece suit as her props, which cleverly hid her from her hairstyle to her figure.
She stepped into the recording venue. The winter sun was covering the lawn, and in the center was a dining table and chairs. The wind gently brushed against the tips of the grass, bringing a fresh smell of earth.
There was sunshine, and because she was wearing a one-piece suit, it was not so cold.
