“Who’s there?” Liang Sheng felt a twinge of fear. Could it be that Scarface had broken free from Ling Dang’s restraints and tracked her all the way here?
She peered through the peephole and saw a woman she didn’t recognize. Judging by her uniform, she was probably one of the front desk service staff.
Liang Sheng double-checked that no one else was lurking around the service staff member, then slipped back inside the room. She grabbed her trusty anti-wolf stun gun and small dagger, hiding them behind her back before slowly cracking open the door.
“What do you want?” Liang Sheng only opened the door a sliver, glancing warily left and right, terrified that some burly thug might leap out from a dark corner and snatch her away.
The female service worker smiled warmly and placed a hand on the door to hold it steady. “We’re here for the daily linen change. Is this a convenient time?”
“Sure, come on in.” Liang Sheng scanned the surroundings again and saw no one else besides the service worker. She relaxed a little, swung the door open wider, and stepped aside to let her in.
The service worker headed straight for the bed and began tidying the sheets. Suddenly, she turned to Liang Sheng, who was still hovering by the door. “Miss, is this your phone?”
Huh? A phone? Liang Sheng patted her pocket—her own phone was right there where it belonged. Had Cha Susu or Ou Lu left theirs behind?
“Let me take a look.” Liang Sheng started toward the service worker.
But the woman sidestepped her, circling around to the window side of the bed. Liang Sheng glanced at the mattress and saw nothing there.
Oh no! It’s a trap! This time, Liang Sheng reacted swiftly. She bolted for the door.
The service worker lunged and grabbed her arm.
Zzzzt—zzzzt!
The service worker crumpled to the floor. Liang Sheng trembled from head to toe, the stun gun still crackling with electricity in her hand.
“Holy crap! That Scarface—this Su Ze guy is way too sneaky!” Liang Sheng’s first instinct was to dash to the door, slam it shut, and lock it tight.
Then she hurried back to the service worker, yanked a sheet off the bed, and bound her up securely, wrapping her like a mummy.
Call 110? Nah, better to phone those girls instead.
Everyone knew that in these brainless romance Mary Sue novels, the cops were useless props—nothing like the sharp, heroic officers in real life. The genre just wrote them out entirely.
So, calling the police wouldn’t help. That was Liang Sheng’s conclusion.
“Hey, Senior Sister Yuqi!” Liang Sheng’s voice cracked with tears. “Hurry back! I—I just got attacked!”
“Huh?” Gu Yuqi was smugly thrilled to get a call from her beloved little junior sister and wanted Bai Zhen nearby to hear it. She’d put it on speakerphone. Liang Sheng had shouted loudly enough for everyone, and now the girls crowded around like mice spotting cheese, chattering nonstop.
“Liang Sheng, what happened?”
“A-Sheng, did you just say you were attacked?”
“Liang Sheng, are you okay?”
Gu Yuqi frowned. “Do you all have time to ask pointless questions right now?”
After scolding the others, Gu Yuqi’s expression softened instantly, her tone turning gentle. “It’s okay, little Junior Sister Liang Sheng~ Stay right there. I’ll be back soon. Just wait for me nicely, alright~?”
Well, well, that was the legendary face-changing magic in action. Yep, blatant favoritism—no even bothering to hide it.
Gu Yuqi took off running first to hail a taxi. The other girls followed suit in a rush, some whipping out their phones to summon a Gua Gua Taxi.
Liang Sheng bit her lip, eyes glued to the service worker sprawled on the floor, dreading the moment she might wake up.
What shouldn’t have happened did anyway. Before the girls could return, the woman slowly fluttered her eyes open.
Liang Sheng snatched up the small dagger and pressed it to the woman’s throat, looking fiercely but timidly like a puffed-up kitten. “D-don’t move! My blade doesn’t have eyes!”
The woman glanced at her and dropped the act completely.
“You, a pampered little miss like you—think you can actually kill someone?” She smirked with clear contempt.
“Well, excuse me?! You look down on me, huh!” Liang Sheng pouted. “Fine, maybe I can’t bring myself to kill… but…”
Zzzzt—zzzzt!
She struck again.
“Phew~” Liang Sheng mimicked the cool gun-blowing pose from movies, flipping her bangs with flair. “Zapping someone unconscious? That’s my specialty!”
By then, the girls had arrived, panting and out of breath.
Bang bang bang! They pounded on the door.
Liang Sheng cautiously checked the peephole, saw it was them, and flung the door open.
“L-Liang Sheng…” Gu Yuqi, in the lead, clutched her stomach—she’d run so hard she’d gotten a stitch.
“Hey, Senior Sister, no need to push yourselves like that. I already took her down!” As she said it, Liang Sheng felt an inexplicable surge of pride and struck a pose with hands on hips.
Gu Yuqi stepped inside and eyed the mummy-wrapped service worker on the floor. “Just her?”
“Yeah, that’s her. She grabbed my arm and wouldn’t let go.” Not wanting to bring up Scarface just yet, Liang Sheng played dumb and pretended she had no idea what was going on.
The other girls trickled in behind her. Without exception, they were all doubled over, clutching their sides from the stitch.
“W-where is she?” Lu Ziqing gasped between breaths, wiping sweat from her forehead.
“Right there—” Liang Sheng pointed at the “mummy” on the floor.
“Do you know her?” Bai Zhen frowned slightly and nudged the service worker with her foot.
Liang Sheng shrugged. “Nope, never seen her before today. First time, and bam—she attacks me.”
“Heh, easy fix.” Lu Ziqing flexed her family wealth and that classic “My Dad’s the Governor” vibe, pulling out her phone to snap a photo of the woman. “I’ll send this to our butler. Tell him she tried to mess with me too. He’ll dig up her background in no time.”
A butler? It sounded kinda funny, and Liang Sheng had to stifle a laugh—but deep down, she was genuinely grateful to Miss Lu.
“As expected from our Young Miss!” She flashed a thumbs-up.
Praised by the girl she liked, Lu Ziqing couldn’t stop the grin spreading across her face, though she played it cool with false modesty. “It’s no big deal, just a small favor. Besides, I don’t want her coming after me next.”
Amid the chatter and commotion, the service worker on the floor stirred and woke up.
“Hey! She’s awake! She’s awake!” Little Loli Zhen Zhu, with her sharp eyes, pointed at the “mummy” and yelled.
Awake? The girls swarmed her, surrounding the service worker completely.
Caught under the gaze of so many, the woman felt a flicker of panic at first. But then she realized they were all just immature teens or fresh-faced young girls, and her nerves settled a bit.
“What are you all staring at me for? What did I do wrong? Huh? Why am I all tied up? What do you want from me!” To everyone’s surprise, she started playing the innocent victim.
