Clockwork and the Vicious King 11

Chapter 11: A Teacher’s Protective Streak

“Alright, it was only a suggestion.”

Seeing how insistent Yier Meng was, the headmistress knew better than to persuade her further. In fact, she was rather looking forward to seeing what would happen when the Lady Saintess was placed with the problem class. She had a feeling that this year at the Holy Light Academy was going to be very interesting.

“In that case, which course would you like to teach?”

“Let’s go with the practical combat courses.”

It seemed the headmistress assumed she already knew which courses were available, as she didn’t even bother to offer any recommendations.

“Oh my~ That’s quite a surprise. For the Lady Saintess to choose this type of course right from the start.”

The headmistress pushed up her glasses once more.

A color that Yier Meng couldn’t quite decipher flashed in her eyes—dangerous, yet alluring to any who might stray into its path.

“I must say, the Lady Saintess is truly worthy of being the successor to this generation’s Pope. You dislike the Holy Light Kingdom’s typically long-winded regulations, and you have no fondness for healing magic or holy magic, am I right?”

Though phrased as a question, she used the tone of a statement.

“The prestige and methods of the ‘Iron-Blooded Pope’ can only be forged anew through a new, iron-willed policy.”

“By the way, my name is Geya. Geya Cynthia Levi. If you have any problems in the future, you’re welcome to come find me in the headmaster’s office at any time.”

With a final, flirtatious flick of her purple hair, she exuded a rich, womanly fragrance, signaling that their meeting had come to an end.

It had to be said, conversing with a mature dajie (big sister) like this felt quite nice. But since she had said as much, Yier Meng knew it was time for the conversation to end.

“Understood, thank you. I’ll be on my way then.”

Having gotten the answer she wanted, Yier Meng had no intention of lingering. She turned and walked toward the door.

“Ah, that’s right. The next time you speak ill of the Pope in front of me, please mind your words. Otherwise, I might not be able to stop myself from tearing your office apart.”

As she gripped the doorknob, ready to leave, she waved over her shoulder at Geya without looking back. She left behind a harsh parting shot, her own way of saying goodbye to the very memorable and beautiful headmistress.

Click.

Behind the closed door, what Yier Meng didn’t see was the handle turning a full circle as the lock re-engaged, nor the deep, probing gaze that Geya cast in her direction.

Well, that’s the business of becoming a teacher here all settled. Lazily stretching her arms, Yier Meng thought that all she had to do now was enjoy campus life.

“This temper of mine… I really can’t seem to control it, no matter where I am.”

Walking down the school corridor, Yier Meng couldn’t help but shake her head at her final burst of anger.

The truth was, in her life as the sovereign of the Yeling Empire, her protective streak was second to none. This was especially true when she saw herself as a teacher; she had treated Asier almost as her dearest family. As a result, if anyone dared to gossip about Asier behind her back, she would absolutely ensure that person never saw the light of another day.

Thinking about it that way, her temper must have improved quite a bit now, right?

As for what a teacher actually does, she figured a practical combat class couldn’t be too different from sparring in the army. The only thing she’d need to pay attention to was the amount of force she used when sparring with these adorable children. Otherwise, if every “friendly exchange” during a normal class ended with her sending students to the infirmary, it would become a real headache.

After all, she was a teacher at the Holy Light Academy now, not the sovereign of the Yeling Empire, and certainly not one of her army’s terrifyingly brutal commanders.

“Speaking of which, what exactly is a Saintess supposed to do? What a headache, this is such a headache…”

She tapped her head in frustration.

Since she was now the Saintess, shouldn’t she act like one when she was teaching her students? But what was a Saintess supposed to be like? At the very least, she imagined, they were supposed to be gentle and intellectual.
