Chapter 12: The Dormitory Building
And judging from Geya’s pointed remarks about the Pope’s reputation, it seemed Asier’s methods weren’t exactly winning her popular support.
“Hah, the Iron-Blooded Pope, is it…”
Yier Meng let out a derisive laugh.
It seemed that by killing her, a “traitor,” Asier may have been hailed as a hero among humans, but as a member of the clergy, her actions weren’t so well-liked. Moreover, the humans were likely quite wary of her—one of their own kind who had managed to do so well among the non-human races.
Yueshen Ji. That surname was not given for nothing.
It was the surname of the heir to the Yeling Empire. One could say that if anything were to happen to Yier Meng, she was the sole, designated successor. Even if the demons themselves resisted a human ruler, the high-ranking demons would have been compelled to enthrone her as the next emperor and prop her up.
Yier Meng had been “asleep” for about a month. It wasn’t a very long time, but for Asier to gain the support of the cardinal archbishops, the great nobles of the Holy Light Kingdom, and ultimately seize the papal throne from among numerous other candidates in such a short period… she must have made quite a few moves behind the scenes.
But it was useless to think about these things now. She was already someone who had died once.
And she couldn’t shake the feeling that the cause of her death back then was perhaps not so simple. After all, for a trap to be able to annihilate 300,000 of the Yeling Empire’s elite troops… the manpower of the Holy Light Kingdom alone, along with Asier—a human who was not well-liked in the Yeling Empire—was far from enough to pull it off.
To achieve something like that, there had to have been an inside agent. And it must have been an inside agent with considerable ambition and skill, coordinating from within to bring about the collapse of Yier Meng’s army.
The reason Yier Meng was willing to become a teacher now was because she wanted to hear Asier’s explanation with her own ears.
Stepping out of the academic building, Yier Meng stopped a female student to ask for directions and headed straight for the dormitories.
The paths along the way were very clean. There were many human-style landscape rocks, as well as rockeries and artificially planted evergreen trees. Seeing them for the first time, Yier Meng felt a sense of novelty.
Thanks to the directions from the student, she had her bearings, and there was no shortage of signposts. Walking along a cute stone path embedded with small pebbles, Yier Meng felt quite at ease. She didn’t even want to use magic to speed up her journey; she just walked normally, without calling for a carriage.
Like this, she walked for over two hours. Compared to the proximity of the cathedral and the academic building, the Holy Light Academy was rather large. At least, Yier Meng had been walking for quite some time before she finally made it from the academic area to the dormitory area.
Glancing at the side of the building—yep, Holy Light Dormitory 1.
Looking at the plaque affixed to the base of the structure, Yier Meng began to figure out which room A7201 would be.
“Hoo…”
She took a deep breath.
Then, Yier Meng cast a spell on her legs, and her entire body shot upwards like an arrow released from a bow.
With a light tap of her foot on a railing and a flip of her body, Yier Meng landed in the room’s corridor.
“Teacher Yier Meng?”
Because the dormitory corridor and the rooms were so close together, Elise spotted Yier Meng at once.
However, as Elise and Yier Meng’s eyes met, the expressions on both their faces became very strange.
“The second time…” Yier Meng muttered in a barely audible voice.
Right.
Because of Yier Meng’s sudden arrival, not only was Elise not wearing her school uniform this time, but she was in a state of just her underwear. The bath towel wrapped around her body, while effectively blocking an outsider’s prying eyes, simultaneously left even more to the imagination.
