Chapter 17: Whose Teacher Is She?
The feeling was strange, as if a person she fancied was about to leave, to go somewhere far away. The heart-wrenching feeling of being powerless and unable to hold on compelled Eirya to resort to the crude method of freezing Yier Meng on the spot.
“Well, it’s quite normal that you haven’t seen me before.”
Seeing that Eirya had calmed down, Yier Meng seized the opportunity to give her an easy way out of the situation. She had no desire for a dispute between classmates to escalate into a dispute between nations. Besides, this was all just a misunderstanding, and clearing it up was better than anything else.
“I’ve come from a remote place. Starting today, I will be taking over all of the practical combat courses for Class 2-1.”
Her explanation was delivered with great patience. Her deep voice added considerable weight to her words.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Ice Dragon Princess. I am this generation’s Saintess of the Holy Light Kingdom—Yier Meng Aili Shengguang. From now on, I will be your teacher. I hope we can get along.”
This time, it was clearly Eirya’s turn to be shocked.
What had she just heard? Not only was the person she had just frozen their new teacher, but she was the teacher for the most valuable course of all, practical combat. And on top of that, she was this generation’s Lady Saintess of the Holy Light Kingdom. Which meant that the attack she had just launched… was an attack on the Lady Saintess herself.
Clearly different from the worldly-unaware princess Elise, Eirya got along quite well with her other classmates and had naturally heard many rumors about this new Saintess.
So this was the Lady Saintess, Yier Meng Aili Shengguang?
The one from the rumors, the new Saintess whom the Pope had recently brought back with great fanfare. The one for whom the Pope had personally overruled all dissent, canceled the candidacies of all other potential Saintesses, and directly appointed her to the position.
One could say that, judging by the Pope’s own attitude, she was the nailed-on successor to the papacy. As long as no accidents befell her, no one could shake her position.
As for Eirya, although she was a princess of the Ice Dragon clan, she wasn’t the only princess of the dragons.
The Black Dragons governed Annihilation, the White Dragons governed Revival, the Red Dragons governed Fallen Flame, the Ice Dragons governed Absolute Zero, the Gold Dragons governed Holy Light, the Silver Dragons governed Space, the Green Dragons governed Time, and the Thunder Dragons governed Violet Lightning.
Pure dragon blood placed even greater importance on the purity of one’s lineage. And among the dragons, besides the pure-bloods, there were countless descendants of lesser dragons who coveted their bloodline.
“I am terribly sorry, Teacher Yier Meng.”
A thousand thoughts raced through her mind, but Eirya bowed deeply, not forgetting to apologize to her teacher. Although she was a princess of the Ice Dragon clan, Eirya was by no means a spoiled and willful one. Since it was a misunderstanding, she would not be completely unreasonable. Besides, if one were to be technical about it, wasn’t Yier Meng also a princess of the Holy Light Kingdom? An apology was a necessity.
“If Teacher feels that I am not sincere enough, then please, Teacher, right here, right now, punish me fiercely! Please don’t worry that I won’t be able to handle it if you use too much force. In fact, it would be better that way!”
This was the second time today that a beautiful girl had requested Yier Meng to strike her fiercely, which made Yier Meng’s expression a bit strange.
Although she understood what Eirya meant—that by letting her strike her, she would demonstrate her sincerity, a different reason from Elise’s request due to her constitution—Yier Meng still felt incredibly awkward.
Should she strike her, or not?
However, it was clear that someone else had made the decision for Yier Meng. Elise leaped forward and, like a little kitten protecting its food, shielded Yier Meng behind her. Her eyes were filled with hostility, clearly unhappy that someone was trying to steal her teacher.
“Teacher is my teacher! You’re not allowed to have any ideas about her!” she declared righteously, cordoning Yier Meng off behind her.
