2. On the Path of Purifying the Soul Every Day
Reina, having sworn to reverse her fate, ate her breakfast and quickly threw herself into her work.
Sitting in the pavilion outside the bedchamber, a comfortable nightgown draped over her, its pattern wrapping around her shoulders. A pair of azure and purple dragon wings swayed up and down, and her bluish-green eyes were intently focused on the scroll resting on her black-stockinged legs, looking exceptionally serious.
“Financial analysis… borrowing the blood race’s methods.”
“Operations research and commerce…”
“Analysis of the Bukonica incident…”
“The rampancy of the Shadow of God…”
As she read the documents handed to her, she muttered to herself, her hand gently resting on the dragon egg in her belly.
Two months into her pregnancy, Reina’s belly was already slightly swollen.
With a little attention, one could see the slight bulge of her lower abdomen, nurturing a new life—a magical offspring, a life that would soon become a new, powerful dragon.
The dragon race’s reproductive cycle was long, and both conceiving and incubating dragon eggs required a certain amount of time.
Therefore, Reina spent most of her time recuperating.
But even so, she still handled most of the affairs. To usurp the Dragon King’s authority, she resolutely carried out her personal will… It was impossible to let Calysia do it.
Among them, after reading the words “Shadow of God,” Reina’s brow furrowed slightly, her hand movements stopped, and the air around her seemed to freeze.
The Shadow of God, a recently rising cult, seemed to worship the Goddess of Light, but their actions were evil, engaging in large-scale destruction against the whole world. It seemed they would soon complete a terrifying ritual that would plunge the world into crisis.
While Reina was busy handling the relationship between the dragon race and the blood race, this organization was quietly launching further attacks on humanity.
If it were just a group of riffraff, Reina wouldn’t have cared.
What concerned Reina more was the text published by the Shadow of God organization.
Reina took out a purple crystal—a magic crystal that recorded images. Following Reina’s will, it projected a string of words, gruesomely carved on a wall:
“Let the Goddess of Light descend and make the world feel fear.”
“Interesting.”
Reina laughed, put away the documents, and neatly arranged them.
To be honest, Reina also wanted to teach the Goddess of Light a lesson.
Thinking of how Calysia had once wanted to give her precious soul to the Goddess of Light, a surge of murderous intent welled up within her.
Calysia deserved a good ending.
But being led astray or taken away by someone else wasn’t a good ending.
She had to make Calysia follow her “good ending.”
She couldn’t let the Goddess of Light take away her soul fragments and then use some method to take her away—thinking of this, Reina trembled with anger.
“I will kill anyone who poses a threat to Calysia, I definitely will…”
What so-called Shadow of God?
What so-called Beast King?
The current Reina already had the capital to be arrogant.
She was a high-ranking demon.
But fortunately, because of her clone’s existence, her way of thinking hadn’t changed.
The only thing that bothered her was that she might never be able to turn back into a human.
It took Reina three whole days to accept this.
But things like the Shadow of God still disturbed her thoughts. So, Reina decided that after giving birth, she would find a way to become human again, and at the same time, defeat the Goddess of Light who was trying to seduce Calysia.
Not only that, but through her own operations and efforts, she had finally become a bishop of the human Church of Light.
In one month, Reina, in her capacity as bishop, had retaken the hills and cities west of Eisentapha, liberated tens of thousands of uncorrupted humans, and personally killed an orc named [Thunder Colossus]. This news had already spread throughout the world.
If the hope of all humanity were represented as a percentage, then this battle had undoubtedly increased it by 30 points.
At the same time, her Light level had also increased to 50.
On paper, it was level 50, but due to the cumulative effects of her levels, her clone could now be considered a powerful human close to level 90, proficient in various kinds of magic.
Next, Reina would find the Shadow of God and personally eliminate the so-called Goddess of Light and that group of self-righteous people.
But having achieved so much, Reina suddenly began to doubt her own actions. She was always worried, feeling that she was no longer the same person as before. But strangely, all her actions were logically sound, which made her feel very strange.
She even subconsciously felt that she had been mentally reformed.
But Calysia wouldn’t do that kind of thing…
Her so-called rationality seemed to be running amok in a strange direction.
“What’s wrong with me…?”
Thinking this, Reina controlled her clone and stretched along with her main body.
Her clone was currently in the most magnificent church in the theocratic nation.
When Reina told Agnes that she needed a long period of prayer, the latter expressed understanding and comfort, and carefully prepared a place for the bishop.
The place, originally for the prayers of all the saints, had now become Reina’s private sanctuary. Besides the faint light from the chandeliers and stained-glass windows, there was only a sacred statue of the Goddess of Light, emitting ripples of light.
The goddess statue was in a praying posture, as if it could purify the soul.
Reina knelt on both knees. Her well-fitting nun’s habit had been replaced with a white dress and a black robe due to her promotion, the sacred lace adorning her beautiful figure, making her look somewhat alluring.
“May the Light purify my body…”
This was a “procedure” that ordinary followers of the Church and humans had to go through after being burned by the so-called “Purifying Flame,” said to be able to purify the body.
But only Reina knew that it would be a miracle if it could even purify a roasted meat ice cream.
Reina’s entire body was enveloped in power. Perhaps due to the contrast of the golden light, a strange black pattern, identical to the Dragon Mark, appeared on her chest.
The pattern emitted a strange luster, and as the prayer continued, hot black smoke slowly rose from it. If seen by a follower of the Church, they would undoubtedly think that Bishop Reina had been demonified or even corrupted, and was now emitting a dark miasma.
Unfortunately, this wasn’t darkness, but true light.
Perhaps it was because she had received too much of Calysia’s magic power that Reina’s clone was also showing signs of corruption. If her clone were corrupted now, there would be no turning back!
“Purify, purify, purify…”
Before she knew it, a massive pair of white wings appeared behind Reina.
And the more she focused, the more miasma erupted from her clone like a bursting dam. And even if that magic power was forced out by devout prayer, it would re-enter Reina’s body, returning to her main body.
