65. Cat Mother and Daughter

Ann was the first to ask.
“You must be overthinking,” Agnes shook her head.
Calysia covered her mouth and chuckled: “How cute~”

Several figures suddenly jumped out from the sides of the road. They were a few young humans who had been lurking by the roadside for a long time. The leader was a female Holy Knight with long brown hair. She was petite and had a pretty face, and her serious eyes revealed a naive youthfulness. She wore a silver-white armor and a blue cape, different from the regular armor. Compared to those warriors who worshipped gold, she was more like a traditional knight of a human kingdom.
She waved her small hand, jumped to the center of the road, and drew the holy sword at her waist, pointing it at the two carriages.
“I am the new human hero, Pesa! I order you to hand over the Goddess of Light immediately!”
Suddenly, a sneaky mage walked up to her and whispered loudly enough for Reina to hear: “This carriage is full of high-concentration magic reactions, this is not good…”
“No, I must save the Goddess of Light today!”
The girl named Pesa’s voice became a little softer, as if she were putting on a brave face.
Only then did Reina realize that this self-proclaimed hero was only about sixteen or seventeen years old.

Two of the Holy Knights opened the door of the half-orc carriage, drew their bows, and threatened:

Saying that, one of the Holy Knights picked up the smallest cat girl from the carriage.
“Mom!”
The cat girl cried loudly, but she had no chance to struggle in the burly man’s grasp. The half-orc mother inside rushed forward but was pushed back by the Holy Knight beside her, while also shouting: “Let go of my daughter!”

At the same time, Calysia, sensing Reina’s state, moved her fingers, forcefully protecting the cat girl with gravity and sending the knight flying. The latter rolled on the unrepaired deserted street and crashed into the stone wall behind him.
And just then, the Saintess helped Reina out of the carriage.
Only then did the Holy Knights realize what had happened. They didn’t dare to approach—because they all knew that this woman in a bishop’s robe was probably the Goddess of Light herself!
Reina, relying on gravity, barely walked to the side of the carriage, held the small, trembling cat girl in her arms, and gently patted her back, which calmed her down a lot.
The Saintess, suppressing her jealousy, said to the knights, “I don’t think you all need to be so nervous.”
Agnes clasped her hands together, and a holy light emanated from her body.
Pesa was so flustered she couldn’t say a word, her body deflating.
“Goddess of Light… Saintess… Your Holiness, why are you here?”
Pesa asked, trembling. She lowered her sword, her expression blank, as if she had thought of something bad. The Holy Knights also retreated embarrassedly.
The Saintess smiled terrifyingly: “I’m escorting the Goddess of Light to the God Slaying Society. What are you all doing?”
“We heard that the Goddess of Light might be in danger, so we all came out!” one of the Holy Knights replied.
At this moment, Pesa couldn’t say anything. She knew she had messed up.
“Who told you?” Reina put the little cat girl back in the carriage. The young cat-folk mother was crying, her mouth full of grateful words, but Reina’s attention was entirely on Pesa.
The self-proclaimed hero, Pesa, stammered: “It was… it was… the Pope… who told us.”
