Chapter 15: Bridal Carry
Wan Feng, Xiao Feng, and the others all looked at her in surprise. Xiao Hou wanted to say something, his lips moved, but in the end, he didn’t say it.
“Sister Can’er, we’ll all listen to you. We don’t want to listen to her,” Xiao Feng said, turning her face to the side.
“Xiao Feng, be good. Sister Feng has the highest combat power in our team. With her leading us, I’ll feel more at ease,” Zhang Can’er said gently.
The group exchanged glances, all somewhat hesitant. They were still angry in their hearts. How could they forgive her so quickly and even listen to her commands? It felt awkward no matter how they thought about it.
“Is your life more important, or your pride?” Zhang Can’er looked at them and asked seriously.
“We understand,” the group said in unison.
Wan Feng sat on the side, quietly watching Zhang Can’er. Is she openly using me?
This feeling didn’t seem too bad.
Zhang Can’er turned her head to face Wan Feng and smiled. “We’ll have to trouble you from now on.”
Wan Feng shook her head. “You should still hold the command. They won’t listen to me in the short term.”
“Don’t worry, I know them better than you do.”
Afterward, under Wan Feng’s arrangement, the group left the house. The Mutants outside the courtyard gate had long since dispersed, but there were still some wandering on the main road outside, so they couldn’t go out through the gate. They had to climb the wall.
After everyone was on the wall, Wan Feng checked the situation below. She saw five Mutants on the flat ground next door. They no longer had mud to cover their human scent, so they had applied a large amount of floral water all over their bodies and even poured some on their clothes.
Looking at the Mutants’ reaction, it seemed to have worked. Wan Feng turned to Zhang Can’er and said, “It looks like your method was successful. I’ll go down first to see their reaction. I’ll come and get you after I’ve scouted out the situation.”
“Okay, be careful.”
Wan Feng nodded and jumped down lightly, landing without a sound.
She first assessed the situation. Seeing that no Mutants were coming over, she stepped onto the flat ground. The house here was the village’s small convenience store and mahjong parlor. It had two floors and was a self-built house where a family of five lived.
As Wan Feng recalled the information Zhang Can’er had told her, she stealthily walked to the main door of the house. The main door was currently open. Inside, there were two rows of mahjong tables, six in total, mostly on the right side of the entrance. The doorway directly opposite the main entrance led to the kitchen and backyard. The room on the left near the main entrance was a bedroom, and next to the bedroom were the stairs to the second floor.
Because Wan Feng smelled of floral water, the Mutants on the flat ground didn’t react at all. Plus, Wan Feng’s footsteps were light, almost silent.
There was no wall around the flat ground in front of the house, and it was connected to the main road, so Wan Feng needed to be extremely careful.
After entering the house, Wan Feng went to the right. Besides the two rows of mahjong machines, there were also two rooms. The smaller one on the left was a mahjong room with four mahjong tables inside. The one on the right was where various snacks, drinks, and seasonings were sold. The items were quite miscellaneous, but most were snacks.
Wan Feng’s eyes lit up when she saw the untouched shelves of goods. She looked for a moment and then went out.
There was nothing on the right side, so Wan Feng headed to the left. The bedroom door on the left was open, and inside was a large pool of blood. It had already dried, and the color had darkened. The blood trail led from the doorway into the kitchen.
Wan Feng became even more cautious. The entrance to the stairs next to the bedroom was blocked by a sliding glass door, so Wan Feng wasn’t worried about Mutants suddenly coming down from upstairs.
Entering the kitchen, the bathroom door on the left was closed. Directly opposite was the entrance to the backyard. On the right were all the necessary kitchen items. The stove was currently in a chaotic state, covered in bloodstains, and the smell was, needless to say, foul.
Wan Feng walked to the backyard entrance, observed for a while, and seeing no movement, she quietly closed and locked the door.
Then she walked to the bathroom door, pressed her ear against it, and listened for a moment. She heard low panting and growling from inside. Wan Feng frowned. From the sound of it, there seemed to be more than one.
But the most important thing now was to get the people outside in.
Wan Feng quietly walked to the main door. Seeing the others still on the wall, she immediately waved.
Seeing her appear, the worry in their eyes vanished, replaced by pleasant surprise.
Xiao Hao took the lead and jumped down first, then helped the others down one by one. But the sound of Xiao Hao jumping down was still too loud. Although he tried to absorb the impact, he was no match for someone like Wan Feng who had trained for years.
The Mutants on the flat ground heard the noise and slowly walked toward them.
Seeing the situation, Wan Feng was alarmed and quickly ran over. She picked up Zhang Can’er, the last one still on the wall, and without putting her down, she gestured for the others to follow her.
It was the first time Zhang Can’er had been carried bridal-style. Her hands subconsciously wrapped around Wan Feng’s neck, and her face turned slightly red. But she didn’t dare to speak now. Even if she was shy, now was not the time to talk. She could only let Wan Feng carry her into the house.
The situation was urgent. The others were only stunned for a moment before following behind Wan Feng.
Because their footsteps were not as light as Wan Feng’s, the Mutants heard them and were slowly walking toward them from behind.
And because they didn’t smell any living creatures, they didn’t roar and lunge at them.
Seeing the Mutants coming toward them, the group quickened their pace. After entering the house, Xiao Hou, the last one in, quickly closed and locked the door.
The group, who thought they could finally breathe a sigh of relief after getting inside, tensed up again after seeing Wan Feng’s gesture.
After being put down, Wan Feng explained the situation in her ear. She learned that there were at least two Mutants in the bathroom.
Wan Feng led them straight to the convenience store room. After closing the door, Wan Feng went to check the front door of the small shop. The rolling shutter was only half-pulled down, but it effectively blocked the view from outside because the other half was blocked by the glass counter in front. Only a little light shone in.
There wasn’t much sun today. The sky had been gloomy since morning, feeling like it could rain at any moment.
“Phew~ I can finally talk. I was scared to death just now. Luckily, that Mutant didn’t scream, or we would have been in trouble,” Xiao Feng said, leaning against the glass and looking outside.
The others also found a place and sat on the floor. Squatting on the wall just now had made their legs go numb. Coupled with their worry for Wan Feng and fear of the Mutants, they didn’t know how they had endured that period. It was truly a double torment of mind and body.
“Later, come with me to take care of the Mutants in the bathroom, just in case something happens,” Wan Feng said to the group after taking a sip of mineral water.
The group all nodded, then began to choose things to eat from the shelves. They found a few more boxes of instant noodles here, as well as several boxes of mineral water. Of course, there were also drinks, alcohol, and some other things. They took what they could and even what they couldn’t. Food and water were of the utmost importance after the apocalypse, followed by medicine and energy sources.
Moreover, with so many of them, the consumption of food and water was the greatest.
