Chapter 139: Money Is Really Tempting (12)
Jiang Zhiyan folded her arms, determined not to speak to Xie Liaoyi until they reached the restaurant, no matter what Xie Liaoyi said, she wouldn’t even look at her.
And wouldn’t you know it, since she wasn’t speaking, Xie Liaoyi also remained silent.
Jiang Zhiyan desperately wanted to turn and look at Xie Liaoyi, using all her willpower to suppress the urge. As soon as they arrived at the restaurant, she turned to look at Xie Liaoyi.
As expected, Xie Liaoyi was looking at her with a smile.
“Still angry?” Xie Liaoyi asked.
Jiang Zhiyan raised an eyebrow: “You haven’t even coaxed me, and you expect me not to be angry? What are you thinking? Xie Liaoyi, are you dreaming?”
“Because I believe my dearest baby wouldn’t be angry with me.”
“Watch fewer cheesy short videos,” Jiang Zhiyan said, pushing Xie Liaoyi’s shoulder and getting out of the car.
Xie Liaoyi followed, shamelessly taking Jiang Zhiyan’s hand and kissing her cheek.
Jiang Zhiyan glanced at her and punched her arm lightly. “I feel like you’ve learned a lot of new tricks.”
“Indeed, after ascending, my learning speed has increased significantly,” Xie Liaoyi nodded. “In every aspect.”
“Sigh, Sister has already ascended, you won’t look down on your little sister, will you?”
Xie Liaoyi pinched her ear: “You’re the older sister.”
“Is that the point?” Jiang Zhiyan was speechless.
“Changing the subject, are we?”
Jiang Zhiyan took a deep breath; she wasn’t going to argue.
Xie Liaoyi had booked a private room and pre-ordered the dishes. As soon as they sat down, the food started arriving.
Jiang Zhiyan looked at Xie Liaoyi, her chin resting on her hand.
“Why are you staring at me?” Xie Liaoyi asked.
“Seeing how much thicker your skin has gotten.”
“About this much thicker.” Xie Liaoyi spread her arms wide.
Jiang Zhiyan nodded: “Modest.”
After all the dishes were served, Xie Liaoyi looked at Jiang Zhiyan, took a small box out of her pocket, and pushed it towards her.
“What’s this?” Jiang Zhiyan asked curiously, looking at the box.
“A little something for the occasion.”
Jiang Zhiyan had assumed it was an ordinary ring, but after opening the box, even she, who had seen countless worlds, was slightly taken aback.
On the ring setting was a dark blue gem. Jiang Zhiyan could sense the aura of a world consciousness: “The world consciousness you devoured?”
“A different one,” Xie Liaoyi said, resting her chin on her hand. “The one that caused us trouble… I merged three worlds together.”
Jiang Zhiyan glanced at Xie Liaoyi. Although she made it sound simple, she knew the reality must have been incredibly complicated.
“That’s too dangerous,” Jiang Zhiyan said, touching the gem, carefully examining it. “It doesn’t seem to be completely dead.”
“Mm, if it were completely dead, the gem wouldn’t change color,” Xie Liaoyi nodded. “That wouldn’t look as nice. Don’t worry, there’s no danger now, its remaining energy is only enough to change color.”
Jiang Zhiyan’s lips twitched, she hadn’t expected this to be the reason: “And you call me ruthless?”
“Do you like it?” Xie Liaoyi asked, looking at Jiang Zhiyan, her chin still resting in her hand. “I spent a long time making this ring, I was planning to give it to you as a reunion gift, I didn’t expect you to recognize it.”
“And you’re just giving it to me like this? What about the occasion? Aren’t you even going to put it on my finger yourself?” Jiang Zhiyan pushed her luck.
“Look outside,” Xie Liaoyi said. Usually, it was Jiang Zhiyan who went to great lengths to create surprises for her, she was always a step behind, but this time, she was finally ahead.
Jiang Zhiyan looked outside and couldn’t help but laugh, she had the System take a few pictures. “How did you even force it to do that?”
The clouds in the sky formed silhouettes of the two of them, the starlight giving the clouds a faint golden glow, it looked like a unique wedding photo.
Xie Liaoyi put the ring on Jiang Zhiyan’s finger: “My negotiation skills have always been excellent.”
“I’ve been agonizing over what to give you when we met again. After all, we’ve been together for so long, I’ve given you everything. I didn’t expect this to just fall into my lap.” The corners of Xie Liaoyi’s mouth lifted. “This is the only ring of its kind in the universe, and now it’s yours.”
Jiang Zhiyan pulled Xie Liaoyi closer and kissed her.
“Weren’t you abstaining?” Xie Liaoyi asked during a pause in their kiss.
“I’ve always had poor self-control,” Jiang Zhiyan said, tugging on Xie Liaoyi’s sleeve. “And I’ve always been shameless.”
Xie Liaoyi laughed and cupped Jiang Zhiyan’s face.
Usually, the System would hide at times like this, but this time, it took several pictures of them.
It even took close-ups of Jiang Zhiyan’s ring and posted them in the System group chat.
[System: Look how awesome my Host is, a ring made by a world consciousness.]
Jiang Zhiyan gently stroked Xie Liaoyi’s hair: “As expected, it’s difficult for me to stay angry at you.”
“You’re still thinking about being angry at a time like this?” Xie Liaoyi said, her voice a low hum, noticing Jiang Zhiyan’s slightly reddened eyes.
Sensing the increasingly intimate atmosphere, the System immediately yelled: “This is a restaurant! This is a restaurant! Just a reminder, this is a restaurant!”
Jiang Zhiyan, speechless, looked at Xie Liaoyi: “It’s yelling again, are we really taking it with us?”
“Let’s take it. We can extract its consciousness and put it in an android later,” Xie Liaoyi said.
“Then we won’t be able to mute it anymore?”
“But we can lock it in another room.”
“Let’s have it stay next door. We can’t have it living with us. It’s too annoying.”
System: …
It considered itself to be fairly quiet and unobtrusive.
“That’s settled then. Let’s eat.” Xie Liaoyi picked up her chopsticks, then paused and asked, “Does this mean my pursuit was successful?”
Jiang Zhiyan folded her arms, feigning indifference: “I suppose so.”
Xie Liaoyi planned to leave after the company was back on track and public opinion had shifted in Jin Shuang’s favor. She wanted to ensure Jin Shuang had what she needed to avoid repeating her past mistakes.
On the day of their departure, Xie Liaoyi was a bit nervous. She was worried that Jin Shuang would call Mu Chen as soon as she left.
Respecting one’s fate was one thing; letting go was another.
Jiang Zhiyan was calm. She felt she and Xie Liaoyi had done everything they could. As long as they felt they’d acted correctly, it didn’t matter what happened after they left.
Jiang Zhiyan was usually unconcerned with the aftermath of their actions, but Xie Liaoyi was always interested in seeing if things unfolded as she hoped.
Having informed the Main God of their intention to leave, they didn’t return to the System space. Their consciousnesses lingered in this world, accompanied by a small spark of light – the System, which was much freer than the two of them, frequently roaming the digital world. Jiang Zhiyan could do the same, but she chose to stay with Xie Liaoyi.
Thankfully, Jin Shuang hadn’t contacted Mu Chen, just going to work as usual. Her relationship with the original Jiang Zhiyan wasn’t as close as before, but at least civil.
Mu Chen, shocked by seeing Jiang Zhiyan and Xie Liaoyi kissing, after recovering, went straight to Jin Shuang’s residence, yelling, arguing, and making demands, the scene descending into chaos.
However, Jin Shuang didn’t deny Mu Chen’s accusation of her kissing the original Jiang Zhiyan, even though she had no memory of it.
Jin Shuang broke free from Mu Chen’s grasp, fled to another room, and calmly called the police, then contacted the original Jiang Zhiyan. Upon arriving and hearing what had happened, Jiang Zhiyan lost her temper, confronting Mu Chen and slapping him across the face. If the police hadn’t arrived in time, he probably would have received a few more blows. Mu Chen, dazed from the slap, couldn’t speak for a good while.
“Good heavens,” Jiang Zhiyan said, shocked. When had the relationship between the original owner and the female lead become so close? They seemed like ordinary colleagues.
Xie Liaoyi smiled, relieved.
The dramatic, old-fashioned, angst-ridden story had a dramatic ending, as expected. But the earlier drama revolved around the tumultuous romance between the male and female leads, the female lead’s suffering. The current drama, however, focused on Mu Chen’s downfall. Jin Shuang was starting a new chapter in her life, ascending to new heights.
Jin Shuang refused the Mu family’s attempts at a private settlement, and the scandal exploded, trending for five days straight, impossible to suppress. News of Mu Chen’s infidelity also surfaced, the once highly-regarded young master of City A now the subject of public disdain.
Mu Corporation’s stock plummeted, and the Jin and Su families profited from his misfortune, the Su family rising to the ranks of top-tier wealthy families.
A few days ago, Mu Chen was still CEO; now he was a criminal suspect, likely facing jail time, and the Jin family, along with other rivals eyeing the Mu Corporation, would be pushing for his conviction.
“Satisfied?” Jiang Zhiyan looked at Xie Liaoyi.
“Very. So cathartic. I would have been tormented for a while if she had gone back to him. Thankfully, she came to her senses.” Xie Liaoyi took a deep breath. “I’ve wanted to see scumbag male leads like this end up in jail countless times, and finally, it happened. And it’s even more satisfying that it was the awakened, lovestruck version of me who sent him there.”
“So, where to next?” Jiang Zhiyan asked. “After such a long-awaited reunion, we’re just watching other people’s stories unfold.”
“Didn’t I say? We’re going to revisit the worlds we’ve experienced,” Xie Liaoyi said, her consciousness connecting with Jiang Zhiyan’s, soothing her anxieties.
“The System hasn’t returned yet, should we just leave without it?” Jiang Zhiyan glanced at the System’s status; it was a social butterfly online, chatting with countless netizens.
“I’m back! I’m back! Don’t you dare leave without me!” the System yelled. “Just give me three minutes to say goodbye to my friends!”
“Tsk,” Jiang Zhiyan scoffed. “See? Not all Systems are as mature as I am.”
“You? Mature?” Xie Liaoyi looked at her, a bit dubious. “It might be childish, but you’re not much better, and… rather vicious.”
“Miss Xie, I suggest you choose your words carefully. Praising your partner strengthens a relationship more than criticizing them.”
“Oh, what should I do then? I fell for you because you’re vicious,” Xie Liaoyi said with a sigh.
