Give Me Heartthrobs 32

Chapter 32: Sweet and Sour

Wen Yu was obviously focused on the first half of the sentence. Even though Ye Qizhen said she would accompany her, she still said that.

Ye Qizhen thought about it again. She stammered, then paused before asking Wen Yu, “You don’t want me to date?”

“Just asking casually,” Wen Yu answered quickly this time. “Just never seen anyone who wants to date as much as you.”

When saying these things, her emotions were untraceable.

This was what she was best at.

Those earlier thoughts were just her one-sided conjectures. It was perfectly normal for Ye Qizhen to want to find a boy to date. Thinking this, Wen Yu smiled calmly at Ye Qizhen again.

So don’t care, and don’t expect anything. Otherwise, there will be hurt and disappointment.

Seeing that unfathomable smile, Ye Qizhen lowered her head, chuckled along with Wen Yu, then looked up to defend herself, “When did I?”

“You didn’t?” Wen Yu questioned. She saw envy flow from Ye Qizhen’s eyes every time she saw couples in pairs.

Ye Qizhen scraped her finger on the bench. Glancing at Wen Yu, she pretended to be carefree and replied, “Say whatever you want.”

After chatting and laughing for a few sentences, both turned their heads to look into the distance in unison. It was windy today, and many children were flying kites on the square, lively and jumping around.

Ye Qizhen was a bit out of it, just watching quietly. Normally, she would probably have dragged Wen Yu to join the fun.

At night, Ye Qizhen was the last one in the dorm to shower again. Standing in front of the mirror blowing her wet hair, the hairdryer buzzed incessantly, but she could still faintly hear chatting and laughter coming from the bedroom.

After drying her hair, Ye Qizhen turned off the hairdryer and heard clearly that they were talking about horoscopes. Luo Bei was a horoscope expert and habitually superstitious, paying attention to weekly fortunes.

Ye Qizhen wasn’t very interested in horoscopes, but when Luo Bei explained, she would listen politely and sometimes felt it was quite accurate.

“Ye Ye, Pisces might encounter Mercury Retrograde next week,” Luo Bei said to Ye Qizhen while squatting on a chair. Besides paying attention to her own sign, she would subconsciously check for her roommates too. “Says there will be pressure from love life.”

“It’s okay, I don’t have a love life anyway.” Ye Qizhen smiled at Luo Bei. She was open-minded about it; just listening for fun, not superstitious.

Luo Bei continued scrolling down her phone. “The signs with the best luck in love next week: Virgo, Sagittarius, Scorpio. Old Zheng, we two have luck! How about spending more time in the library next week?”

“Your luck predictions are never accurate.” Zheng Qianyu turned her head and choked Luo Bei.

Hearing Scorpio, Ye Qizhen subconsciously paid attention. Wen Yu seemed to be a Scorpio.

Regarding luck in love, Luo Bei and Zheng Qianyu chatted endlessly. Ye Qizhen was ready to go to bed, but they were still babbling, straying further and further from the topic.

“Still, Scorpios are the scariest.”

“That’s right, number one in holding grudges.”

“I have a friend who is a Scorpio. You completely can’t guess what she’s thinking.”

“Right, right, right.”

…

Completely can’t guess what she’s thinking. Indeed. Listening to this sentence, Ye Qizhen secretly praised its accuracy. Wen Yu’s attitude towards her seemed somewhat ambiguous, but Wen Yu looked more like she was joking.

Perhaps because she was tired from walking during the day, Ye Qizhen felt groggy not long after her head hit the pillow.

…

A narrow dorm bed.

She and Wen Yu squeezed together. Wen Yu leaned close, staring at her, fingertips gently rubbing her lips. Getting closer, she felt her cheek tickle; it was Wen Yu gently rubbing her nose tip against her cheek, fingers still touching and rubbing her lips. The exhaled breath seemed scorching hot.

She lowered her eyes halfway, rubbing nose tips with Wen Yu.

Her body trembled with every breath.

…

Ye Qizhen opened her eyes, undoubtedly blushing with a racing heart. She probably hadn’t slept for long because the lights weren’t off yet. Whispers from Luo Bei and Zheng Qianyu came to her ears, saying she seemed to be asleep and asking if they should turn off the lights first.

With a soft click, the surroundings plunged into darkness, but Ye Qizhen’s consciousness was much clearer.

Yesterday in the art studio, when Wen Yu stared into her eyes and played with her hair, the thoughts in her mind were completely impure. As a result, interacting with Wen Yu today, she was also distracted from time to time.

Couldn’t quite fall asleep anymore. Ye Qizhen exhaled lightly. She didn’t know what Wen Yu thought, but she herself seemed to have some rather impure thoughts about Wen Yu…

In short, heart chaotic.

Tuesday afternoon, the last class ended at six.

Ye Qizhen quickly organized her books and heard her roommate ask her, “Ye Ye, not going to the cafeteria with us again?”

“Mn, you guys go.” Ye Qizhen ate dinner with Wen Yu most of the time. Today was an exception because she had class during the third and fourth periods in the afternoon, and Wen Yu had class during the first and second periods in the evening. There was only a thirty-minute gap in between, not enough time.

After leaving the classroom, Ye Qizhen went to a convenience store, bought two sandwiches and milk, sent a WeChat message to Wen Yu, and then hurried towards the Fine Arts Department classrooms.

When Wen Yu arrived at the classroom, Ye Qizhen was already waiting for her in the corridor, stuffing a dinner into her hands.

“Remember to eat.” Ye Qizhen didn’t even ask if Wen Yu had eaten. This was probably the tacit understanding developed over time.

Wen Yu looked at the sandwich and milk. Basically every Tuesday, Ye Qizhen would come over to bring her dinner. She knew Ye Qizhen was worried she wouldn’t eat when alone. She liked Ye Qizhen’s thoughtfulness, but the more Ye Qizhen cared about her, the more she pushed her luck hoping this was more than just concern between friends.

“What did you eat?” Wen Yu asked Ye Qizhen.

“I ate this too, but couldn’t resist and ate it just now. You eat quickly, class starts soon.” Ye Qizhen said with a smile, then asked Wen Yu, “Are you running tonight?”

“Running,” Wen Yu said.

“Then I’ll wait for you at the old place at nine. I’m leaving first.” The “old place” Ye Qizhen referred to was a large flowerbed on the way from their dorm to the playground.

Qi Yun came out of the restroom and saw Ye Qizhen bringing food to Wen Yu again. “Sweetie came to bring you dinner again? You’ve got her completely bewitched. Looks promising.”

Wen Yu suddenly remembered Ye Qizhen’s sentence “Even if I date” from that day. She gave a cold smile to Qi Yun. “She’s like that to all friends.”

Qi Yun sighed, “Then I need a friend like that too.”

Before nine o’clock, Ye Qizhen was waiting for Wen Yu by the flowerbed. Watching students swarm out after class and gradually disperse, still not seeing Wen Yu arrive, she put her hands in her pockets and looked down, kicking pebbles by her feet to kill time. Until a pair of black and white sneakers came into view. She looked up; it was Wen Yu standing in front of her.

The two looked at each other and smiled, needing no words, and walked side by side towards the playground.

Passing by the basketball court was the shortest route. The basketball court was quite lively at night, with many people playing. Ye Qizhen turned her head to look. A basketball hit the ground and bounced slowly towards them.

“Wen Yu.”

A shout from the court. Ye Qizhen looked in the direction of the voice. It was a tall boy with a buzz cut—a hairstyle that tested one’s features, and his features could withstand the test.

“Throw the ball over.” The person took a few steps and said.

Ye Qizhen thought Wen Yu wouldn’t help him pick up the ball and was prepared for awkwardness. Unexpectedly, she saw Wen Yu actually bend down, pick up the basketball from the ground, and throw it back to him.

“Thanks.”

A burst of self-evident jeering erupted from the court. Ye Qizhen understood why those boys reacted like that. It was like this in high school too; boys would ask the girl they liked to help throw the ball. If the girl agreed, she was mostly interested in that boy too. Like an agreed-upon code.

Ye Qizhen turned to look at Wen Yu, and Wen Yu looked at her too. They continued walking towards the playground behind the basketball court.

Jogging two kilometers around the playground. Wen Yu looked at Ye Qizhen. “You’re so quiet today?”

“Do I talk a lot usually?” Ye Qizhen smiled at Wen Yu. She was sweating slightly, cheeks rosy.

“More than today,” Wen Yu said.

“Do you dislike me talking too much?” Ye Qizhen asked, then quieted down. She saw a figure approaching from diagonally ahead, seemingly heading for Wen Yu—it was the guy she just saw on the basketball court. Ye Qizhen looked at Wen Yu and reminded her, “Someone’s looking for you.”

Noticing it, Wen Yu said to Ye Qizhen, “Wait for me a moment.”

“Mn.” Ye Qizhen responded, watching Wen Yu walk a short distance away. She remembered the faint smile on Wen Yu’s face when she threw the ball to that boy on the court. They must know each other.

In just a short while, Wen Yu walked back. Ye Qizhen stood in place rubbing her arms, pursing her lips as she looked at Wen Yu. After coming back to her senses, she hesitated, then smiled and asked, “…Is there a situation? Student Wen.”

Wen Yu gazed silently at the expression on Ye Qizhen’s face. Why did it feel a bit awkward? Or did she want to see Ye Qizhen mind too much? She simply answered, “In the same group for English class, have a group assignment.”

Ye Qizhen smiled noncommittally.

“Still running?” Wen Yu asked.

“Two more laps?” Ye Qizhen proposed.

Heartbeat accelerating, sweating in the wind—running seemed addictive. half a year ago she hated running so much, but now she liked it, just because of Wen Yu.

Ye Qizhen ran forward mechanically. Some things, she couldn’t help thinking about. Wen Yu wouldn’t pay attention to just anyone, so…

That boy was roguishly handsome but not frivolous, with a strong aura. Standing with Wen Yu just now, their temperaments matched well, looking compatible.

If Wen Yu liked someone, she would get together with that person very quickly, right? Ye Qizhen thought as she ran. Wen Yu is so good and so good at flirting; no one can refuse her.

She hoped the person who would be with Wen Yu in the future could be gentle and considerate to Wen Yu, making Wen Yu truly happy…

Facts proved that zoning out too much while running was dangerous. Ye Qizhen didn’t know how she fell on the track. By the time she reacted, her palms were supporting her on the ground, knees in excruciating pain. She turned over to sit on the ground, opened her palms to look, skin scraped by the ground.

Wen Yu hurriedly squatted down and took Ye Qizhen’s hand. Knowing Ye Qizhen was very afraid of pain, she subconsciously blew gently on the wound.

Ye Qizhen pursed her lips tightly, wanting to cry from the pain, and perhaps for other reasons too. Anyway, all sorts of messy, indescribable emotions churned together, making her heart stifled.

“Let’s see the knees.” Wen Yu said, helping Ye Qizhen roll up the loose sweatpants leg, revealing a section of slender, fair calf. Pushing the pant leg up past the knee, sure enough, the knee was also scraped, faintly oozing blood.

Seeing blood, Ye Qizhen felt even more pain and gritted her teeth.

“Cry if you want to, no one else is here.” Wen Yu looked at Ye Qizhen’s reddening eyes and teased her.

Being told so by Wen Yu, Ye Qizhen’s tears fell.

Wen Yu helped Ye Qizhen up. Seeing Ye Qizhen’s tears falling incessantly, she reached out to cup half of Ye Qizhen’s face, wiping them for her. “Crybaby.”

Perhaps taking the opportunity of wiping tears, she couldn’t help but gently stroke Ye Qizhen’s cheek.

Ye Qizhen looked at Wen Yu, crying and laughing at the same time, letting Wen Yu touch her cheek and carefully wipe her tears. They were just like before, but Ye Qizhen felt it was different. With Wen Yu treating her like this right now, she completely couldn’t control her restless heart.
