Chapter 49: Slender Waist
After seeing clearly who was in her arms, Ye Qizhen let go as if electrocuted, extremely embarrassed.
Wen Yu quietly cast her gaze in Ye Qizhen’s direction, looking nonchalant. She faintly heard Ye Qizhen call out “Senior Sister,” and then the two started chatting. Separated by distance, she couldn’t hear clearly what they were chatting about, only seeing Ye Qizhen smiling continuously. Is it necessary to smile so sweetly at everyone? No wonder she attracts a bunch of people who like her.
“Don’t forget about the meeting.”
“Mn…” Ye Qizhen responded to the senior sister while glancing at Wen Yu from time to time, distracted.
Wen Yu stood in place for a while, then leisurely walked towards Ye Qizhen. When passing by Ye Qizhen, she slowed down slightly, swept a glance at Ye Qizhen from the corner of her eye, and then quietly walked downstairs.
Seeing this, Ye Qizhen hurriedly ended the chat with the senior sister and followed Wen Yu closely.
The two went downstairs one after the other.
Around the corner behind the teaching building, there was a small shaded area. Wen Yu turned around and saw Ye Qizhen trotting over under the sunlight.
Ye Qizhen walked to Wen Yu’s side. “Why did you come down?”
Wen Yu looked at Ye Qizhen without saying a word.
This reaction, is she angry? Ye Qizhen fell silent too. She thought it was Wen Yu just now and hugged quite clingily. If she saw Wen Yu hugging someone else like that, she would definitely feel uncomfortable too. She hurriedly explained to Wen Yu, “I thought it was you, so… hugged the wrong person.”
Hugged the wrong person. Hearing Ye Qizhen say it helplessly and aggrievedly, Wen Yu wanted to laugh a little, but her expression remained unchanged. “Mn.” After responding, she turned her head to look into the distance, quietly enjoying the breeze.
Ye Qizhen breathed a sigh of relief and stood side by side with Wen Yu. The leaves of the old plane tree beside them rustled in the wind, sounding very pleasant.
Half a minute later, Wen Yu said lightly, “I saw you guys chatting quite happily.”
Ye Qizhen was stunned for a moment before coming back to her senses; she thought the topic had passed. She turned to look at Wen Yu and confessed honestly bit by bit: “Talking about the summer practice. We have a meeting tomorrow night.”
Wen Yu immediately asked, “Is she the senior sister you often mention?”
Although Wen Yu’s tone was as calm as ever, Ye Qizhen still had a foreboding feeling. Shu Chen was her direct senior in the department and also a senior in the campus TV station, always taking care of her. She had mentioned her in front of Wen Yu twice before, which couldn’t be counted as often.
“Quite a good-looking senior,” Wen Yu didn’t wait for Ye Qizhen to speak, blinking and adding, “A beauty.”
Specifically emphasizing “beauty” made Ye Qizhen realize something immediately. Looking at Wen Yu’s face, she bit her lip to suppress a smile. Because they were together, even a little jealousy was incredibly obvious, doubly sour. She walked up to Wen Yu, standing face to face with her, and asked softly, “Are you angry?”
Wen Yu lowered her eyelids. She couldn’t say she was angry, just uncomfortable. She admitted she was very possessive of Ye Qizhen; any intimacy between Ye Qizhen and others made her feel very uncomfortable. But she also felt she was making a mountain out of a molehill, so facing Ye Qizhen’s inquiry at this moment, she chose to remain silent.
Without Wen Yu saying anything, Ye Qizhen could feel it. She muttered, “Just unhappy.”
Wen Yu simply went along with Ye Qizhen’s words: “Shouldn’t I be?”
Ye Qizhen answered quickly: “Should!”
Seeing Ye Qizhen’s survival instinct maxed out, the corner of Wen Yu’s mouth hooked up slightly.
Seizing the opportunity, Ye Qizhen took another step forward, took one of Wen Yu’s hands, and tugged it. Staring at Wen Yu’s eyes with wide eyes, she said gently, “I admit my mistake, okay? Don’t be angry anymore.”
Palm warmed, Wen Yu’s heart softened instantly. When Ye Qizhen coaxed people with a smile like this, it was hard not to soften.
Seeing Wen Yu still not speaking, Ye Qizhen tugged Wen Yu’s palm again, calling repeatedly in a low voice: “Wen Yu, Wen Yuyu—” She was patient to begin with, let alone coaxing her girlfriend.
The corners of Wen Yu’s mouth finally rose. She raised an eyebrow and said half-jokingly, “Admitting a mistake is this easy?”
Ye Qizhen thought for a moment, tried acting a little coquettish, and said in a voice only the two of them could hear: “You can bully me however you want, is that okay?”
Bully however I want. She really dared to say it. Wen Yu’s gaze landed on Ye Qizhen’s cheek and didn’t move away. She liked Ye Qizhen talking like this in front of her; her whole being seemed soft, making her want to hug. After gazing for a while, she wrapped her arm around Ye Qizhen’s waist, leaned closer, and asked, “Bully however I want?”
Ye Qizhen’s body was hooked over. The same words spoken by different people felt different. For example, when Wen Yu said it, it made her feel… Wen Yu could “deal with” her however she wanted.
Wen Yu leaned close, staring at Ye Qizhen, and stroked her slender waist.
Caught off guard, Ye Qizhen straightened her waist slightly. How could she have been confused about her feelings for Wen Yu before? She clearly liked Wen Yu so much; as soon as she got slightly close to Wen Yu, she couldn’t control her heartbeat.
Seeing Ye Qizhen’s reaction, Wen Yu snickered secretly, unable to resist stroking again.
Leaning close and watching Wen Yu smile, Ye Qizhen couldn’t look away. In the spirit of reciprocity, one of her hands slowly groped towards Wen Yu’s waist too. So thin. Wearing cool clothes in summer, when her palm stroked the waist through the thin fabric, she could even feel the warm touch of the skin.
Wen Yu inhaled, becoming addicted to this feeling, even hoping Ye Qizhen would touch her more. She used to dislike physical contact with people, but Ye Qizhen was the absolute exception.
Whenever they were alone, she couldn’t help wanting to do intimate things. Ye Qizhen didn’t know if Wen Yu was the same, but her mind was full of such thoughts and impulses anyway.
The afternoon air was hot, and no one was around. Somehow, the two ended up hugging, resting their heads on each other’s shoulders. Their shallow breaths brushing against each other’s necks felt hotter than usual. Quietly, secretly being intimate behind the teaching building brought a different kind of thrill.
This area was a secluded corner, rarely frequented by anyone. Precisely because of this, once someone passed by, the footsteps were obvious.
When the footsteps came, Ye Qizhen and Wen Yu were still hugging.
Next to them was the classroom where the Fine Arts Department often had classes this semester; running into acquaintances was understandable.
Someone seemed to be coming. Ye Qizhen felt a bit embarrassed, losing the clinginess from just now. Perhaps to others, they were just two girls hugging simply, but her hug wasn’t pure at all—she felt guilty.
Wen Yu glimpsed an acquaintance from the same major passing by and let go of Ye Qizhen at the right time.
When let go, Ye Qizhen felt inexplicably empty in her heart. She always thought too much because of a small action or detail. For example, did Wen Yu let go of her at this time because she felt being too clingy outside was bad? Or was she worried about people around them knowing their true relationship? Impossible, Wen Yu wouldn’t care about other people’s opinions…
After separating, the two stood silently for a moment, each lost in thought.
Wen Yu glanced at the back almost disappearing in the distance from the corner of her eye, then looked back at Ye Qizhen. “What are you thinking?”
“Nothing.”
“Afraid of being gossiped about?” Wen Yu asked Ye Qizhen anyway.
“Gossiping about our relationship?” Ye Qizhen asked.
“Mn,” Wen Yu responded indifferently.
Ye Qizhen guessed Wen Yu was considering her feelings. Back in the art studio, when Wen Yu rejected that guy’s confession and was scolded so badly, she didn’t retort a single word. But as soon as she was scolded, Wen Yu immediately picked up the palette and threw it at the guy. Wen Yu protected her everywhere like this; she knew it all in her heart.
“Do you think I would be afraid?” Ye Qizhen asked back stubbornly. She used to live obediently under others’ expectations, caring about others’ opinions everywhere; it could be understood as a kind of cowardice. She wanted to become a little braver. After falling for Wen Yu, this thought became even stronger. Wen Yu was the most resilient girl she had ever seen; she wanted to be like Wen Yu…
Wen Yu didn’t answer. Rather than being afraid, it was more like she didn’t want it. She understood too well the taste of being gossiped about behind one’s back; she had come through it like that. She didn’t want the person she liked to experience these things too, didn’t want Ye Qizhen to fall into the vortex of gossip. Regardless of whether those discussions were good, bad, or otherwise, they would always make people uncomfortable.
“Are you afraid?” Ye Qizhen asked again.
Wen Yu shook her head. having experienced such things a lot, naturally, she looked past them.
“I’m the same as you,” Ye Qizhen blurted out. Perhaps there would be uncomprehending gazes, but she felt there were many things worth persisting in and protecting. Then she smiled and said, “Even if others gossip, most of it must be envy—envying my girlfriend for being beautiful.”
Wen Yu could always be warmed by Ye Qizhen. Taking advantage of her height, she rubbed Ye Qizhen’s head. “My girlfriend is more beautiful.”
Ye Qizhen pretended to be serious: “No way, my girlfriend is prettier.”
This childish dialogue made both of them laugh in unison.
“Although I cry easily, don’t think of me as very fragile…” Ye Qizhen was a little dissatisfied, but at the same time could understand Wen Yu’s sensitivity to being gossiped about. Just as Wen Yu always protected her, she also hoped she could protect Wen Yu, so Wen Yu wouldn’t be wronged or sad in the future. Thinking of this, her tone became serious: “I will protect you in the future.”
I will protect you.
Wen Yu looked at Ye Qizhen, stunned. In an instant, she had a very strange yet strong urge to cry.
