Chapter 1: Am I Not Cute Now Too?
It was June, and students continuously passed along the tree-lined paths of Linhai University. A few students, already dismissed from class, gathered, books in hand, to gossip.
“Did you hear? A first-year grad student from our school confessed to Shen Xun this morning.”
“Hiss, he really isn’t afraid of death, is he? How many is that now? Still not giving up?”
“Exactly. Our campus belle, Shen Xun, is perfect in every way, except she has no romantic inclination whatsoever. How many people have confessed to her over the years, and she hasn’t agreed to a single one? This time will be the same, right?”
“Isn’t that the truth? That first-year grad student usually acts so pretentious, but he got shot down by Shen Xun. I almost died laughing.”
“Sigh, to put those arrogant, ‘daddy-esque’ men in their place, you need our campus belle, Shen Xun. It’s so satisfying to watch.”
Shen Xun, the subject of their conversation, was utterly unfazed. She was walking out of the teaching building with her roommate, Zhang Qiao. The two planned to grab a meal at the cafeteria and then head back to their dorm.
Zhang Qiao chattered beside Shen Xun, “I’m seriously impressed. There are still people brave enough to court death, knowing full well you don’t date, but still insisting on confessing.”
“Just refuse them. These things are a waste of time. With that time, I’d rather go to the family company and learn more.”
Shen Xun’s face was stern. The diligent little dumpling of yesteryear had long grown into a graceful young woman. Her dark hair fell casually behind her, her skin was as fair as snow, and her cat-like eyes, when not smiling, were deep and exuded a chill. Her red lips were lightly pressed together, giving her an unapproachable demeanor.
Zhang Qiao glanced at Shen Xun’s face and couldn’t help but shiver. “It’s definitely more comfortable to be with you in the summer. You’re like a walking human refrigerator.”
“Get out of here,” Shen Xun looked at her, and Zhang Qiao only felt even cooler.
“Yes, yes, that look! Give me a few more glances; this weather is just too hot,” Zhang Qiao said with a laugh.
The two walked and chatted, and after arriving at the cafeteria, Shen Xun simply got some food and sat down to eat with her roommate.
She had been impeccably raised since childhood, so even in the noisy cafeteria, Shen Xun’s back remained perfectly straight.
Zhang Qiao, sitting opposite her, complained, “Is that really necessary, sis? We’re eating, not in military training. You don’t need to be so prim and proper, do you?”
Shen Xun looked at her. “It’s a habit.”
After saying that, Shen Xun continued to eat. She actually didn’t like talking much while eating.
Ding ding~
Shen Xun heard the notification sound from a nearby phone. She glanced at the screen. She didn’t like playing on her phone while eating, so she had no intention of picking it up to look.
However, after seeing the contact name on the WeChat pop-up, Shen Xun immediately picked up her phone.
Zhang Qiao, seeing that she actually picked up her phone, teased, “Oh, our campus belle actually plays on her phone while eating? Hey, whose message is it?”
Shen Xun looked up and saw her roommate’s gossiping face. As she quickly opened WeChat, she looked at her roommate. “My sister.”
“Tsk, ‘sister’? More like a lover,” Zhang Qiao retorted.
Shen Xun gave her a cold glance, and Zhang Qiao immediately quieted down, quickly burying her head in her food, no longer provoking Shen Xun.
It wasn’t that Zhang Qiao was spreading rumors; it was mainly because Shen Xun was truly a very hypocritical person. She always treated other alphas in a business-like manner and wasn’t usually a smiling person. Even Zhang Qiao, as her roommate, rarely saw Shen Xun smile.
There was an exception, though. Whenever Shen Xun’s “sister” video-called her, Shen Xun would smile with crescent eyes. Every time Shen Xun talked to her sister, Zhang Qiao felt like a third wheel.
Shen Xun didn’t have time to bother with Zhang Qiao. She picked up her phone and saw that Su Jianyue had sent her a WeChat message.
Little Moon: Sister, I don’t have class on Friday. I want to come see you. I’m taking the plane tomorrow morning. Can I stay and play with you for a few days? Do you have time, Sister? (doggy winking jpg)
Shen Xun’s eyes curved into a smile. Ever since Su Jianyue started university, she would come to visit whenever she had free time, and Shen Xun would never refuse.
Shen Xun typed gently on her phone, her eyes soft.
Shen Xun: Okay, but I have class tomorrow morning. I’ll arrange for the family driver to pick you up.
Meanwhile, Su Jianyue, lying on her dorm bed, rolled around twice happily when she saw her sister had agreed. She almost rolled onto the floor.
She quickly got up and earnestly sent a message to Shen Xun.
Little Moon: No need, I’ll just take a taxi. It’s not my first time going to your place anyway. (doggy obedient jpg)
Shen Xun: No, I don’t feel at ease with you alone. Let the driver pick you up.
Little Moon: Okay~ Thank you, Sister.
Su Jianyue got Shen Xun’s approval and sat on her dorm bed, her eyes curving in a smile.
Her roommate on the opposite bunk saw her smiling so happily and asked, “What’s up? So happy all of a sudden?”
“No class tomorrow, I’m going to see my sister in the morning,” Su Jianyue replied, her hands busy as she quickly booked her plane ticket.
Her roommate, Liu Yujia, hissed and then continued, “Going to see your Sister Shen Xun again? Speaking of which, I watched that variety show of yours when I was little. That show was super popular back then, called ‘Pastoral Little Cuties,’ right?”
Su Jianyue smiled and nodded. “That’s right, you remember it better than I do. But you weren’t that old back then, were you?”
“That’s true. I watched the second season when I was three or four, and then I liked it so much that I asked my mom to find the first season for me. But I have to say, you were really cute when you were little!” Liu Yujia couldn’t stop smiling when she thought of Su Jianyue as a child.
Su Jianyue tilted her head back, looking very proud. “Of course. Am I not cute now too?”
Liu Yujia pouted, but she had to admit, Su Jianyue had really grown up well. Many child stars end up looking worse as they age, but Su Jianyue had only grown more beautiful.
When Liu Yujia started university, she had met Su Jianyue’s Mama and Mommy. Her first impression of the two was that time never defeats beauty. Mo Yuxin and Su Yubing were still so young, looking much like they did on TV when she was little, and even more elegant now.
And Su Jianyue’s face perfectly inherited all the best features of her Mama and Mommy. Their entire school couldn’t find an alpha more beautiful than Su Jianyue, which led to her being pursued by many omegas from the moment she enrolled in her first year.
“Tsk, conceited,” Liu Yujia scoffed at Su Jianyue and went back to her game.
Su Jianyue quickly got out of bed. Their dorm was a four-person room, but two of her roommates had apartments outside the school, so they didn’t often come back to the dorm. Su Jianyue usually only went home on weekends so she could play at school.
It was already past four in the afternoon, and Su Jianyue got dressed, preparing to go home for a bit.
Su Jianyue walked towards the parking lot, encountering many people who greeted her along the way, and Su Jianyue kindly responded to each one.
Upon reaching the parking lot, Su Jianyue immediately spotted her red Panamera. This car was specially bought by Mommy for her commute. The family’s other cars were too expensive and would be too conspicuous at school, so they bought this car worth over a million as a daily driver.
Su Jianyue started her car and drove towards her family’s villa.
Half an hour later, Su Jianyue parked the car in the underground garage. She happily returned to her villa.
“Aunt Li, I want watermelon juice!” As soon as she entered the door, Su Jianyue habitually whined to the family’s aunt.
Aunt Li had long been accustomed to Su Jianyue’s way of speaking. This little one had always been affectionate and sweet-tongued since childhood.
“Okay, I’ll go make you fresh watermelon juice right away. You wait there for a bit,” Aunt Li said with a smile as she entered the kitchen.
Su Jianyue sat on the sofa and stretched. She lowered the air conditioner in the living room by a few degrees before she felt less hot.
After sitting for a while, Su Jianyue changed to lying on her stomach on the sofa. She took out her phone and started bothering her Mama, Mommy, and sister one by one.
Su Jianyue: Mommy~ I’m home, I miss you so much. When are you coming back to be with me? (doggy starry eyes jpg)
Su Jianyue: Mama~ I’m home, going to see Sister tomorrow! (doggy spinning jumping jpg)
Su Jianyue: Xingxing, when are you coming home from school? I miss you~ (doggy nuzzling jpg)
After sending private messages to everyone, Su Jianyue opened the family group chat and sent an old childhood emoji of herself, the one where she was covered in lipstick marks from Mommy’s kisses. Later, someone had Photoshopped the words “I’m back from my wild antics” onto it.
After bothering everyone in the family, Aunt Li conveniently returned with the watermelon juice. “The watermelon juice is ready. I put some ice cubes in it; it tastes better.”
“Thank you, Aunt Li,” Su Jianyue said with a beaming smile, reaching out to take the cup and taking a big sip.
The sweet watermelon juice with ice cubes made Su Jianyue feel refreshed after a couple of sips.
Just then, someone had already replied to her WeChat. Su Jianyue saw it was Mommy, and the smile on her face became even more undeniable.
Mo Yuxin: You’re already in your first year of university, and you’re still so clingy. I’ll be back to be with you soon. (rubbing dog’s head jpg)
Su Jianyue was overjoyed. She took another big gulp of watermelon juice and typed a reply to her Mommy.
Su Jianyue: Waiting! (doggy anticipating jpg)
After she happily replied to Mo Yuxin, her Mama also replied.
Su Yubing: You, you’ve been clinging to your sister since you were little. Did you ask Xunxun? Does she have time tomorrow?
Su Jianyue quickly replied: Of course, Sister said it’s fine for me to come, and she insisted on sending a driver to pick me up. I originally wanted to take a taxi myself to find her.
Su Yubing: Be good and listen to your sister. If she wants someone to pick you up, let them pick you up. It’s safer that way.
Su Jianyue: Mhm mhm, I’m the most obedient~ (doggy obedient jpg)
Still at the company, Su Yubing shook her head with a chuckle. Her little moon, she was always good at acting cute and coaxing people since she was little, and she was still the same now that she had grown up.
Meanwhile, Su Jianyue finished her glass of watermelon juice and hadn’t received a reply from her sister yet. She walked and said to Aunt Li, “Aunt Li, I’m going upstairs to take a shower. When my Mommy and them come back later, please remember to tell them.”
“Okay, I understand.” This young miss of theirs had been clingy and loved to whine since she was little.
