Chapter 41

Little Snake opened her eyes, unable to see. She could only lift her head and sniff forcefully, anxiously flicking her pink tongue. Once she smelled the human’s familiar scent, she finally quieted down, whimpering as she burrowed into Ah Wan’s arms.

“Human.”

“Mm.” Ah Wan’s gaze was as gentle as water, stroking her lightly. “What’s wrong?”

Little Snake didn’t speak. She buried her head in Ah Wan’s embrace, rubbing against her for a long time, loosening her clothes, the tip of her nose unconsciously brushing against the skin of Ah Wan’s chest. She even opened her mouth, looking like she wanted to take a bite with her teeth.

Warm breath puffed against her chest. Ah Wan suddenly reached out to separate her face from herself, then let out a deep, heavy couple of breaths. Her gaze darkened, and her hand involuntarily slid towards Little Snake’s waist.

“Snakey can’t see, Snakey is scared.”

Not being allowed to taste, Little Snake pressed her cheek against her chest, clutching her clothes as she spoke tearfully, her little expression pitiful beyond measure.

Ah Wan hesitated for a long moment, sighed, then placed her hand back on Little Snake’s back. Patting her gently, she coaxed patiently: “Don’t be afraid.”

Little Snake heard but didn’t speak. She just tilted her head slightly in her embrace, blinking her big, misty blue eyes.

Thinking for a moment, Ah Wan lowered her head and pressed a kiss to her mouth, then soothed: “I’m here, don’t be afraid now.”

“Mm.” Only then did Little Snake feel reassured. She lowered her head to rest on her shoulder, burrowed a couple of times to find a comfortable spot, and peacefully fell asleep.

The early morning wind carried a faint mist, dampening the fine hairs on her face. By noon, it turned dry again, the sun shining lazily on the ground.

Wind passed over the bamboo tops, creating a rustling sound, natural and relaxing, coaxing a wave of drowsiness over people for no reason.

In a shady spot, Ah Wan lay on a rattan chair, holding a small palm-leaf fan and gently swaying it occasionally.

Little Snake lay asleep on her chest. Her big eyes were closed, half her cheek pressed flat against her, sleeping exceptionally soundly.

Ah Wan put down the fan, picked up her phone to check: 11:30 AM. Time to make lunch.

But the human in her arms was clinging to her like a piece of sticky rice cake, and she was so delicate and fragile now; the slightest movement and she immediately woke up.

Ah Wan still didn’t dare move. She only carefully lowered her head to look at her.

From this angle, Little Snake looked like an exquisite porcelain doll.

Not only with thick brows and big eyes, but her curled, long eyelashes could cast a small shadow. And an elegantly upturned nose.

Additionally, her slightly plump cheeks held a healthy, natural blush. Her lips were full and moist, like cherries after the rain, making one unable to resist plucking them.

Ah Wan held her tighter, her throat bobbing slightly. She used her fingertip to dot the space between her brows, then traced down along the bridge of her nose. After pressing a gentle rub on that tiny pink mole, she touched her lips.

Soft and springy, like crystal-clear jelly.

Ah Wan couldn’t help but turn her head, pinch her chin, and lift it slightly, then lower her head and bite down.

Little Snake was woken up, whining and huffing to express her displeasure, even reaching out to push against Ah Wan’s chest.

But Ah Wan simply ignored it, directly catching her wrist and pressing it against her own heart. With one hand cupping the back of her neck, she lowered her head and kissed her forcefully.

This posture allowed a deeper kiss. Little Snake’s mouth was already sensitive to begin with, and combined with the exponentially heightened perception during her blindfold period, she was quickly defeated.

Panting delicately, groaning muffledly, the slick, wet kissing sounds transmitted into her ears, magnified countless times, striking against the tip of her heart with each beat.

Aching and weak, her waist turned to jelly.

Ah Wan’s kissing skill was excellent. She also kneaded her fingers gently to soothe her. The few short, panting breaths that occasionally escaped were even more alluring and mesmerizing.

Only after a very long time did she reluctantly let her go. Yet, seeing Little Snake’s red, swollen lips glistening with moisture, she couldn’t help but lean in and press against them again.

Their lips touched. Compared to the fierce kiss just moments before, this was more like post-passion comforting.

Very gentle, touching with great tenderness, not daring to probe her tongue in again, otherwise, Ah Wan feared she truly wouldn’t be able to control herself.

Little Snake had finally regained her freedom, curling up in Ah Wan’s arms, gulping in fresh air.

Ah Wan looked down at her, reaching out to tidy the stray hairs on her forehead, then caught her hand and kissed her fingertips one after another.

The Little Snake in her arms trembled lightly from time to time, her soft whimpers still carrying the hook of passion, as if she had been bullied terribly, even her fingertips flushed with pink.

Looking at her like this, Ah Wan felt both love and heartache. She lifted her arm slightly to raise her higher, then leaned down, took her earlobe into her mouth, licked it gently, then caught it between her teeth, nibbling slowly.

“Mmm~” Little Snake’s face flushed. She fumbled to find Ah Wan’s shoulder, pushing weakly, softly, whimpering in pain.

Ah Wan locked her hand down, turned her head, and bit her finger as if venting, the sound of her voice a bit low, blaming the other first like a guilty party: “Don’t provoke me, I can’t hold back.”

Little Snake was angry. She glared with her sightless blue eyes, balled up her fist, and wanted to hit someone.

Afraid she might miss, Ah Wan proactively leaned in, solidly taking a cotton-soft punch before feeling satisfied. Then she opened her big hand, enveloping her small fist, pulling her entire body into her embrace.

“No more messing around. Sleep. Sleep for another half hour, then I’ll make food.”

After saying this, Ah Wan set an alarm, then lightly pushed off with her foot, making the rocking chair sway slowly.

Just like that, she held Little Snake, leisurely and content, dozing off for just a little while longer.

The time for an afternoon nap flowed away like water. When Ah Wan woke up, it was already 1:00 PM.

She put down her phone and sighed, just feeling that this nap had been really deep; she hadn’t heard the alarm at all.

The human in her arms was baked warm by the sun. Ah Wan sat up, held her vertically, and headed straight into the house.

Little Snake woke up quickly. She lay on her shoulder, dazed for a moment, then turned her head to lie on the other side. Sleep marks were imprinted on her face. She opened her mouth, yawned lazily, and let out a tiny sigh.

Ah Wan secretly turned her head to glance at her, gently stroking her back, her voice gentle as she asked, “Hungry?”

“Mm.” Little Snake lay on her shoulder, looking a bit listless, her voice soft and cottony, “Want to eat Crispy Noodles.”

“Eat a proper meal first.” Ah Wan refused without hesitation. Little Snake grew anxious upon hearing this, “Why?”

Ah Wan halted her steps, looked down at her for a moment, took a deep breath, then replied, “Meal first to nourish your body. No snacks allowed for now.”

After speaking, she carried her towards the table, intending to set her down so she could go busy herself in the kitchen.

But as soon as her hand loosened, Little Snake immediately stretched out both arms, grabbing her clothes and scrambling up, then clinging to her tightly like a koala.

Stickily, no matter how you pulled, she wouldn’t let go.

Ah Wan struggled briefly but couldn’t break free. In the end, she could only compromise, wrapping her arms around her waist to hold her, saying helplessly, “Do you know what you’re like right now?”

“Like what?”

Little Snake countered, pressing her face against hers, unwilling to move even an inch away.

“Like a lump of freshly steamed sticky rice cake. Once it sticks to you, you can’t shake it off.” Ah Wan pretended to be distressed as she explained.

Hearing this, Little Snake gave a soft snort. She wrapped her arms around her neck, resting against her shoulder, trying hard to squeeze in, as if wanting to meld desperately with the human. Then, childishly, she replied, “Then Snakey is now Sticky-Rice-Cake Snakey. Human can’t abandon Snakey.”

Ah Wan laughed out loud. She pressed her lips to her forehead and simply carried her straight to the kitchen. Since leaving her would just make her cry anyway, better to keep her close by.

“Have you ever eaten sticky rice cake?”

Only after asking the question did Ah Wan realize how silly it was. What had Little Snake eaten, played with, worn—which of these wasn’t she clear about? Why bother asking here?

Even her intimate clothing was personally chosen, hand-washed, and put on by her own hands. Asking such a question seemed somewhat neglectful.

Fortunately, Little Snake was a bit simple-minded, often only interpreting the most literal meaning from the words. So she didn’t overthink at all, instead replying gluttonously, “Never eaten it. Is it tasty?”

“It’s delicious. When your eyes get better, I’ll take you to eat some.”

After speaking, Ah Wan secretly breathed a sigh of relief, then as usual, placed her in her usual spot to sit before going to wash the beef.

It was the fresh beef she had taken out of the freezer first thing that morning, placed in the sink to thaw. Now was the perfect time to cook it.

Little Snake was already excited about the prospect of eating sticky rice cake. Now, smelling the beef, she was even more ravenous, unable to stop flicking her tongue.

Ah Wan finished cutting the beef, picked up a scrap piece from the cutting board, and brought it to her lips. But she didn’t feed it to her right away, instead holding it up and dangling it, as if deliberately teasing.

Little Snake smelled it. After carefully sniffing, she was overjoyed, desperately flicking her tongue, trying to eat the beef.

Too bad the human was wicked, deliberately teasing her, letting her reach but never quite get it.

Ah Wan mischievously teased her for a long time, her smile always brilliant, meeting the whimpering Little Snake’s gaze without any avoidance.

The strip of beef in her hand seemed to have become a cat teaser. Little Snake sat there, within a suitably sized, safe space framed by Ah Wan’s body. Then Ah Wan lowered her head to watch the little one flicking her tongue while reaching out with her hands, grabbing blindly.

Like a little cat.

The sunlight streamed through the kitchen window. Little Snake tilted her head up. Her blue eyes faintly revealed the light, with whitish parts starting to appear, like hazy mist.

More like a little cat-snake.

Ah Wan’s thoughts wandered again. Then she fed the beef in her hand to Little Snake.

Little Snake was very happy after getting the meat, wolfing it down in two or three bites. She flicked her tongue, slowly turning her head to ask: “More, Human?”

“Yes, but it has to be saved to make you Beef Hotpot.”

As Ah Wan spoke, she prepared the hotpot broth. The rest of the side dishes were ready-made, just waiting for the soup in the pot to boil.

While eating, Little Snake sat alone on one side. Although she still wasn’t completely used to it, compared to the day before, it was much better.

Ah Wan used serving chopsticks to cook the meat, dipped it in sauce, blew on it to cool it, and then fed it to Little Snake’s mouth.

Actually, choosing to eat hotpot for lunch today had a reason. Little Snake’s eyes couldn’t see, so she needed to be fed.

Ah Wan had to feed her and also eat herself. A single meal would take a bit longer, and if they ate stir-fried dishes, they would get cold rather quickly. So, it wasn’t as convenient as hotpot.

“Careful, it’s hot.”

Hearing the voice, Little Snake subconsciously leaned forward, even stretching her neck out a bit, then opened her mouth and quietly waited for Ah Wan to feed her. “Ah~”

Ah Wan smiled, gazing tenderly at the young girl before her.

Usually, she rarely smiled. Most of the time, she hid her emotions, whether joy, anger, sorrow, or happiness, keeping them completely concealed. Her outward expression was always calm.

But ever since Little Snake entered her blindfold period, the smile on her face hadn’t stopped, and the affection in her eyes no longer hid away.

Just like this, in front of this little blind creature, Ah Wan openly and honorably revealed her feelings, with a time limit—

Six days.

Little Snake failed her heavenly tribulation and was nearly struck to death by divine lightning. Gravely injured, she hid deep in the mountains to recover.

Then one day, a woman adorned with jingling silver ornaments parted the grass and picked her up.

Terrified, Little Snake could only try to look fierce. She bared her fangs and hissed threateningly.

The woman responded by flicking her forehead.

"Wuwu~ It hurts."

Not only that, the woman even threatened her.

"Show your teeth at me again, and I'll turn you into medicinal wine."

"Wuwu~ So scary."

Little Snake immediately tucked her head down and didn't dare make a sound.

But what she hadn't expected was that after being brought home, she wasn't thrown into a giant wine jar. Instead, she was given fresh meat to eat and soothing ointment for her wounds.

"Wuwu~ The human feeds me. The human treats my injuries. The human is nice."

Delighted, Little Snake swished her tail and crawled over, rubbing against the woman's finger affectionately.

Only to receive another flick on the forehead.

"Heal quickly. You'll make better wine once you're healthy."

With that, the woman tossed her into a room full of venomous creatures.

"Wuwu~"

Tears welled up in Little Snake's eyes.

Curling herself into a tiny ball in the corner, she lowered her head and wiped her tears on her scales.

Scary.

Need to find the human.

Swinging her tail, she squeezed through a crack beneath the door and followed the direction where the woman had disappeared.

Ah Wan was a herb gatherer from the Miao region. Reclusive by nature, she rarely interacted with others. Over the years, she had taught herself the art of Gu and filled her home with poisonous insects and venomous creatures.

While gathering herbs in the mountains one day, she came across a tiny snake no thicker than her finger. It looked badly injured.

Feeling unusually soft-hearted, she picked it up.

To her surprise, the little thing immediately bared its fangs at her.

One flick to the forehead was enough to set it straight.

Afterward, she tossed it into the room where she kept her venomous pets and returned to her bedroom to sleep.

But...

In the middle of summer, why did it keep getting colder the longer she slept?

Frowning, Ah Wan turned over and slowly opened her eyes.

The moment she did, she found herself staring directly into a pair of bright, innocent eyes.

"Human... scared."

A thin, childish voice spoke awkwardly beside her, deliberately mimicking her way of speaking.

Ah Wan pinched herself hard.

She wasn't dreaming.

Mini Theater

Winter had arrived.

Snow fell heavily outside, while inside, the charcoal brazier glowed warmly.

After sneaking a piece of candy, Little Snake climbed into the cozy bed.

She burrowed into Ah Wan's arms and squirmed happily from side to side, waking Ah Wan just moments after she had fallen asleep.

"Stealing candy again?"

Ah Wan's voice was hoarse with sleep, her eyes still closed.

Little Snake blinked innocently.

"Nope."

The instant the lie left her mouth, Ah Wan opened her eyes.

She lifted Little Snake's chin, her gaze deepening.

"I'll have to check."

"Check how—wuwu~"

Little Snake had barely opened her mouth before Ah Wan leaned in and kissed her.

Startled, she squirmed beneath Ah Wan, her tail curling around Ah Wan's ankle.

Wuwu~

The human's lips are soft.

Little Snake likes them very much.

Ah Wan pressed her lightly against the bed. Her long, pale fingers traced over the beautiful scales along her body as though searching for evidence.

Suddenly, Little Snake's expression changed.

The enthusiasm she'd shown moments earlier vanished, replaced by panic.

Holding onto Ah Wan's arms, she cried out pitifully,

"Human, don't touch Snakey there!"

Ah Wan lowered her head and kissed her once more, but her hand didn't stop.

"Oh?"

"Where exactly is 'there'?"

Little Snake's breathing grew uneven.

Tears shimmered in her eyes as she glared at Ah Wan in accusation.

"Human is bad."

"Human always bullies Snakey."
