Chapter 114: Those People Have Arrived
Li Linger looked at the foolishly grinning Dong Manying and reluctantly raised her gun.
Bang. Bang. Bang.
She gave them the quickest end possible, then tossed the bodies out the window, hearing three faint, muffled thuds from below.
Outside, Tang Ze restored the power to the suite. The central air conditioning was unusable, but he had his supply depot. A few portable air conditioners solved the problem easily.
He thought about the man who had died on the bed. To be so young and yet rule over a hotel, he must have had some skill. The three women were probably the most beautiful in the hotel, and possessing beautiful women at a time like this was no easy feat.
But in the end, he was still ambushed and killed by women. Women in the apocalypse… they really couldn’t be trusted.
Even now, he wouldn’t let them sleep with him. They were just experience points to him, plus some badass fighters.
…
At the Jiang Family Manor, while other areas had lost power, the estate was brightly lit. Servants could be seen moving about inside from time to time, as if the apocalypse outside had nothing to do with them.
The Jiang family was renowned in Yunhai City. For Ye Qingyi to marry into the Jiang family was a stroke of luck so great it was as if her ancestors’ graves were emitting smoke. When the news broke, countless socialites had despised Ye Qingyi for shattering their dreams. But who could blame them, when Jiang Zihui was so infatuated with her?
Inside a luxurious bedroom.
The handsome Jiang Zihui caressed the sexy woman before him, murmuring tenderly, “Yiyi, you’re so beautiful today.”
The woman pulled Jiang Zihui’s head into her chest. “Zihui, I’m all yours.”
Suddenly, Jiang Zihui shoved the woman away, shouting, “Yiyi would never be like you! Start over!”
The woman he had pushed over, Bai Qing, was no simple character herself. She was the treasured daughter of the head of the Bai Corporation and one of Jiang Zihui’s most ardent pursuers. On the night the apocalypse began, she had shown up uninvited, knowing that Ye Qingyi was away.
From the start of the apocalypse, she had been hoping for Ye Qingyi’s swift demise. Ever since communications were cut off, Jiang Zihui had been acting erratically, until one night, he mistook her for Ye Qingyi…
But Bai Qing didn’t want to be Ye Qingyi’s stand-in forever.
With no other choice, Bai Qing propped herself up and said again, “Zihui, I love you.”
Jiang Zihui’s angry expression instantly softened. He gently pushed Bai Qing down, undoing the various constraints. It had to be said, Bai Qing was also a top-tier beauty.
Just then, the door was pushed open. Jiang Nana stood at the entrance. “Brother! You’re at it again! How can you do this to Sister-in-law?!”
“Get out! Can’t you see I’m with your sister-in-law?! Yiyi is back!”
“Brother! Can’t you just wake up? Sister-in-law will definitely come back.”
But Jiang Zihui grabbed a nearby cup and threw it at her. Jiang Nana cried out in alarm. Her brother had gone mad.
“Dad wants to see you!” Jiang Nana said before leaving in a huff.
Jiang Zihui’s breathing was ragged. He looked at Bai Qing beneath him, his tone softening. “Dad wants to see me. I’ll be back in a bit.”
“Mm, I’ll wait for you, Zihui.”
Jiang Zihui playfully tapped Bai Qing’s nose, then got up and put on his formal wear. Like a wife, Bai Qing helped her husband dress neatly, ending with a farewell kiss.
After Jiang Zihui left, Bai Qing’s face twisted in fury. She grabbed her makeup and began smashing it.
Arriving at the study, Jiang Zihui saw that everyone was already there: his father, his second uncle, his third uncle, and their sons.
Jiang Zihui had been curious from the beginning. His cousins had all been studying abroad, but they were suddenly called back and forbidden from going out. Not long after, the apocalypse began.
At first, he thought the family had no food or drink and suggested going out to find some. But it turned out the family had stockpiled a massive amount of supplies, enough to even support the servants and a group of bodyguards.
The only rule was that they couldn’t leave.
He always felt his father knew something. If he knew, why hadn’t he told him, so he could have gotten Ye Qingyi to come back sooner?
In truth, they had told him, but hadn’t Ye Qingyi stayed at her sister’s house for a meal? Otherwise, she would have returned to the Jiang Manor a day earlier.
Jiang Zihui sat down casually, glancing at his cousins sitting opposite him. They were yawning as if they had just woken up.
“Someone will be here soon.”
Jiang Tongshan, the head of the Jiang family, possessed a commanding presence. To his left sat his second brother, Jiang Yuan, who wore glasses and had a refined yet ruthless air. His third brother, Jiang Qingguang, was a bit overweight but had dimples when he smiled, giving him a very affable appearance. But anyone who knew Jiang Qingguang knew that in the business world, he often drove his competitors to ruin and never showed mercy.
“Big Brother, is it the people who gave you the information?” Jiang Qingguang asked in a low voice.
Jiang Tongshan picked up his teacup and took a sip. “Yes.”
“Who on earth are they? How did they know this would happen?” Jiang Yuan asked, taking off his glasses, puzzled.
Jiang Tongshan didn’t answer. He remembered a morning one year ago when a message had suddenly appeared on his phone, telling him to stockpile supplies because a disaster was coming a year later.
At first, he dismissed it as a prank, but after several consecutive nights of nightmares, he figured he might as well stockpile a bit. It wasn’t that much money, anyway.
Then, a few days before the disaster, the strange number sent another message, telling him to gather his family and not go out, and to prepare as many bodyguards as he could.
After that, it warned of a major drop in temperature, and then told him to wait.
Jiang Tongshan was worried about this terrifying power, but if it weren’t for them, his entire family would probably be dead by now.
Jiang Yuan’s son suddenly laughed. “Dad, have you seen The Purge? Isn’t this just like it? We’ve been chosen to re-establish order.”
The statement sounded a bit ridiculous, but it also seemed to make sense.
Ding-dong.
The phone placed in front of Jiang Tongshan chimed. A text message had arrived.
“They’re here.”
Jiang Tongshan stood up. The others followed him out of the study, their hearts filled with trepidation.
On the road, a snowplow cleared the way, followed by three Range Rovers and two tractor-trailers. The containers on the trailers were marked with a strange logo.
However, these vehicles were still using tires, seemingly unaffected by the conditions.
The snow had piled so high that the manor gate could no longer open. The snowplow simply rammed it open and entered. From the entrance, the Jiang family saw the convoy approaching from a distance.
“Dad, what is that? Why aren’t their tires melting?” Jiang Nana’s voice suddenly came from behind.
Jiang Tongshan immediately shouted, “What are you doing out here?! Go back upstairs and don’t come out!”
Jiang Nana pouted and ran back inside, fuming.
“Could this be the legendary Umbrella Corporation?” Jiang Yuan’s son exclaimed. He was clearly a movie buff.
Jiang Zihui said flatly, “You mean they’re the ones who started this disaster, to rewrite the rules of the world?”
“Cousin Hui, what’s so impossible about that? You should be glad they chose our family.”
No one else spoke. They should indeed be glad.
The convoy slowly came to a stop at the entrance. Jiang Tongshan wanted to go and greet them, but he didn’t dare step outside.
