Chapter 049: Destiny’s Belonging
The two sat quietly by the lake, neither saying a word, yet there was no awkwardness between them.
They had been at this lake for more than two days, but they had never truly appreciated the scenery. It was only after Chen Ran had finished the Holy Cone that his mood relaxed a little. But even so, facing the possible attack at night, his heart was still a little heavy.
On this point, Elena was more open-minded. There was not a trace of fear of death on her face. Facing the sparkling lake, her eyes held a hint of fascination.
“If only we could sit like this forever, how wonderful that would be…”
Chen Ran turned his head and said in a gentle voice, “Don’t worry. After tonight, I’ll accompany you to watch it for as long as you want. I promise, nothing will happen to you.”
Elena smiled, but her smile held a bitterness that even Chen Ran couldn’t quite understand. She then leaned against Chen Ran’s shoulder.
“Fate brought us together, to know each other, to fall in love. I thank the heavens for letting me meet you. No matter what the outcome is, this will be an unforgettable memory. But no one knows what will happen in the future. So, cherish the present. Perhaps that is the most beautiful part of life.”
“Don’t be so pessimistic,” Chen Ran said, gently patting Elena’s back with a knowing smile. “The road ahead of us is still long. Today will be good, but tomorrow will be even more worth looking forward to. You have to believe that life will get more and more exciting every day.”
“I hope so.”
A gentle breeze blew, lifting strands of Elena’s silky hair. A captivating, light fragrance drifted in the air. She asked Chen Ran, “If we have a child in the future, would you want him (or her) to be more like you, or more like me?”
“Is there even a need to ask?” Chen Ran said without hesitation. “Of course, they have to be like their mother. If they’re like me, it would be a disaster. No one would like them.”
“Isn’t there still me?” Elena smiled.
“But not everyone can be as lucky as me.”
Elena laughed, like a blooming lily, so pure, so moving. She stood up, took off her shoes, and walked barefoot into the water, walking on the soft sand, and then gradually began to dance.
Her dance was bright and moving, her figure graceful, showing the most gentle side of a girl, like a spirit dancing in the water, so beautiful that it was unforgettable.
In that mesmerizing scenery, Chen Ran gradually had an inexplicable illusion. Between him and the spirit in the water, there seemed to be a subtle, unreachable distance…
Another night came, and the atmosphere was strangely tense.
The black knight’s time of appearance was not in broad daylight, nor in the dead of night, but often at dusk and dawn. This time, it seemed that it would most likely arrive before dawn again.
The waiting time seemed so long, until dawn arrived.
The moonlight in this world was very bright, and there were no dark clouds tonight. Although it was night, the road was still clearly visible.
Chen Ran brought Elena onto the white horse early and cast all the necessary buffs.
Chen Ran’s initial plan was simple: stall.
The black knight’s excursions were never long, perhaps due to other restrictions. This was a very important step in Chen Ran’s plan.
He stayed on a familiar path to ensure that he wouldn’t panic and lose his way. Although Chen Ran’s riding skills were still a bit clumsy, the absolute speed of Wings of Light could alleviate a lot of his burden.
Dawn was about to break. Suddenly, a huge red dot finally lit up on Chen Ran’s map. His anxious heart finally tensed up. He pulled the reins and shot out…
The black knight’s warhorse was clearly a fine steed, as fast as the wind, much stronger than an ordinary horse. It chased relentlessly after Chen Ran. Although Chen Ran’s horse was just an ordinary one from the town, not as cool or swift as the black knight’s fiery steed, and it was carrying an extra person, after being enhanced with the support spells of Divine Power, Endurance, and Wings of Light, this seemingly ordinary horse burst forth with unprecedented power and was not caught by the black knight’s swift fiery steed.
The two horses, one in front and one behind, began a full-speed chase on the path.
While riding the white horse, Chen Ran kept an eye on the situation behind him, paying attention to the black knight’s every move. He was looking for the right opportunity.
The black knight had better horsemanship. The two horses were about the same speed, but with the black knight’s superb skills, the distance between them gradually closed. But without a major mistake from Chen Ran, it was obviously not an easy task to catch up in a short time.
He had placed the Holy Cone well. Chen Ran was calculating the timing of the black knight’s attack. He was waiting for an opportunity. When the black knight became impatient, it would throw the black crystal magic sword in its hand. At that time, at high speed, it would be difficult for Chen Ran to make a sudden change of direction, even if he had superb riding skills.
But only at that time, when it had temporarily lost its magic sword and its strength had dropped to Tier 4 or even lower, would he have a chance to strike, once and for all. The black knight’s battle armor was not a physical armor, but was made of demonic qi. It would definitely not be able to block the penetration of the Holy Cone. And there was only one chance!
As Chen Ran had expected, after an hour of frantic running on the road, when the morning light began to shine on the earth, the black knight really became impatient. It let out a roar. The dense demonic qi on its body was also gradually weakening, no longer as arrogant as before. The speed of the fiery warhorse also slowed down a bit.
Seeing the distance between them gradually widening, the black knight indeed raised the longsword in its hand.
Chen Ran noticed this detail, and his pupils suddenly constricted. In that instant, he hugged Elena and jumped off the horse…
A sword wheel, dancing with black flames, flew over, as fast as a shooting star. Its tyrannical power instantly blasted Chen Ran’s mount—that pitiful white horse—into a pile of flying flesh and blood. Then, following its inertia, it continued to fly forward and deeply embedded itself in the trunk of a red maple tree by the roadside. The tree withered at a visible rate, and its yellowed leaves fell. Chen Ran pulled Elena and ran toward the magic sword.
Chen Ran fiercely pulled out the magic sword, but it was clearly a magic weapon that recognized its master. The surging black fire instantly burned Chen Ran’s hands. Seeing the black knight approaching, he endured the severe pain and used the white electric current of Holy Purge to dispel the black flames on it, cutting off the black knight’s spiritual connection. He then threw the magic sword heavily to a place where it would not be easily picked up, and then looked at the black knight, whose aura was gradually weakening.
Heal instantly healed the terrible burns, and it took some more time to dispel the demonic qi on his hands. Facing the charging fiery warhorse, Chen Ran only had time to push Elena away and hold the Holy Cone in front of him…
