Chapter 24 p2
Su Guan was twenty minutes late when she got downstairs.
On the way, she had been trying to come up with a suitable excuse.
Gu Yixi’s messages had never been very frequent. Today, she had just tactfully told Su Guan where she was and what car she was driving.
Then, seeing that she was late, she had asked, “Are you busy?”
Her emotions were surprisingly stable.
With that thought, Su Guan got into the car. As she opened the door, she was already apologizing. “I’m sorry, I ran into some trouble at closing time and was held up.”
Although she had already explained it to Gu Yixi on her phone just now, she couldn’t help but explain it again when she got in the car.
“It’s fine. I happen to be free today.”
Their eyes met in the rearview mirror.
You CEOs are really free, Su Guan grumbled internally.
She sat properly in the back seat and finally took the initiative to speak. “Where are we going?”
Gu Yixi replied, “To my place.”
Su Guan’s heart skipped a beat. She was inexplicably reminded of her mom’s instructions from a few days ago, telling them to put the matter of living together on the agenda as soon as possible.
She was still thinking about how to bring up this difficult request, and Gu Yixi was already taking her to her place.
The car was silent. Gu Yixi didn’t say anything else, and Su Guan didn’t either, until Gu Yixi drove into a wealthy residential area. Only then did Su Guan ask in confusion, “Ah, Gu… CEO, does your whole family live here?”
Seeing her usual elegant and luxurious attire, Su Guan had always thought Gu Yixi would live in some kind of ancient, grand courtyard, not a large, modern apartment.
“No, I live alone,” Gu Yixi replied as she parked the car. “I don’t like to be disturbed. My family lives at the Gu Estate.”
“Oh, I see.”
The neighborhood was indeed quiet, matching Gu Yixi’s earlier statement.
But if she didn’t like to be disturbed and chose to live alone, why would she pick someone up from work and take them to her place…
Su Guan’s thoughts came to a halt.
It seemed that Gu Yixi was, at least on the surface, quite concerned and serious about their marriage.
But why?
Su Guan couldn’t ask directly, and Gu Yixi had no intention of explaining—she seemed to think it was a matter of course, just as she had said before, it was a wife’s duty.
The moment the door opened, Su Guan heard a rustling sound, and soon a guinea pig was nudging at their feet.
The guinea pig’s round, black eyes stared at the stranger, Su Guan.
“Uh…” Su Guan was about to take off her shoes but paused, having a staring contest with the tricolor, smooth-coated guinea pig.
The subtle atmosphere between the human and the pig was soon noticed by Gu Yixi, who had already changed her shoes.
Su Guan shot Gu Yixi a look for help.
“Well, come here,” Gu Yixi bent down slightly, calling to the guinea pig. “Susu, come to Mommy.”
Su Guan: ???
What’s this pig’s name? Susu?
She looked at Gu Yixi in disbelief. Gu Yixi had already picked up the guinea pig and was holding it in her arms, stroking its fur.
The awkward, subtle atmosphere between the human and the pig had now shifted to between the two humans.
Gu Yixi also realized this. She stopped stroking the fur, and her tone became unnatural. “Well, I was just calling it. This guinea pig’s name is Susu.”
The name “Susu,” rather than a pet’s name, sounded more like an intimate, affectionate nickname.
“Ah, how did you come up with the name Susu?” Su Guan picked up the conversation.
“I have two pets,” Gu Yixi said. “Susu is one, and the other is a West Highland White Terrier, which is currently at the Gu Estate with my grandmother…”
Two pets, one to keep her company, and the other to keep her grandmother company. There must be a hierarchy of affection.
Su Guan spoke without thinking, a random thought popping out. “Then does CEO Gu like Susu more?”
The moment the words left her mouth, Su Guan began to regret it. She had just found the guinea pig’s name quite strange.
However, Gu Yixi just smiled gently and said, “Yes. Although Susu hasn’t been with me for long, I like Susu more.”
She likes Susu more.
Gu Yixi’s eyes crinkled with a smile as she spoke, her tone extremely gentle.
The light of the setting sun filtered through the curtains, landing on her face.
Breathtakingly beautiful.
Su Guan suddenly felt a wave of elegant, sweet pheromones wash over her nose.
…Was Gu Yixi releasing them unconsciously, or was it intentional?
An Alpha has little resistance to the pheromones released by a highly compatible Omega, especially since she had already marked Gu Yixi. Su Guan felt she couldn’t handle it with just one sniff.
As she stumbled past Gu Yixi, she inadvertently saw a look of triumph in her eyes.
It seems this woman did it on purpose, Su Guan thought.
As expected, this woman’s emotional stability was just an act. Now she had shown her true colors.
Fortunately, she was smart and wouldn’t easily fall into the scum Omega’s trap!
Gu Yixi didn’t need many things living alone. The house was simply furnished, and Gu Yixi just gave her a quick tour.
“I didn’t bring you to my place for any other reason today,” Gu Yixi said, holding the guinea pig and standing in front of the wide floor-to-ceiling window, her tone serious and firm. “Although our marriage can’t be made public for some reason, I don’t want to treat you unfairly.”
Su Guan stared at her profile. “So what do you mean, CEO Gu?”
Just as she finished speaking, Susu in Gu Yixi’s arms suddenly let out a “gurgle” and flapped a little, continuing to stare at Su Guan with its round, black eyes, as if to determine who the rightful owner of the affectionate nickname was.
Gu Yixi turned around, not answering Su Guan’s question. Instead, she said, “Now that you mention it, I realize we haven’t changed how we address each other.”
Su Guan was stunned.
Change how we address each other?
Was Gu Yixi going to give her the name she had given the guinea pig?
To be fair, the name Susu was quite cute.
But she didn’t want to share a name with a pet pig for now.
Su Guan asked, “Then how does CEO Gu plan to change how you address me?”
Unexpectedly, Gu Yixi wasn’t planning to change how she addressed her.
“You’re not my subordinate. You don’t have to call me CEO Gu,” Gu Yixi lowered her eyes, a thoughtful expression on her face. “And it’s just the two of us now. You should call me by the last two characters of my name.”
Yixi, or Xixi?
Su Guan was taken aback, her face flushing. The two characters were stuck on her lips, and she couldn’t say them.
She had just been saying yesterday that getting married was like a dream.
Then she would call her Yixi.
So, under the gaze of Gu Yixi’s almond-shaped eyes, she slowly said, “Yixi.”
Gu Yixi’s “mm” was quick, and a satisfied smile soon appeared on her face. “Good, good girl.”
Su Guan: ?
“Huh?”
Gu Yixi raised an eyebrow and said casually, “Oh, I said Guan-guan.”
Guan-guan or good girl? She had been shy and flustered just now and hadn’t been paying attention, so she couldn’t tell the difference.
“After all, changing how we address each other is a two-way street. You’re already calling me Yixi,” Gu Yixi smiled faintly, looking at Su Guan, and automatically omitted the second half of the sentence.
She called her Yixi, so it was only natural for her to call her Guan-guan.
But Su Guan had a feeling she hadn’t just called her Guan-guan. She felt she had been played by Gu Yixi again.
As expected, the scum Omega who had been two-timing since middle school was quite skilled.
That sweet pheromone scent began to spread again.
Su Guan was not sensitive to pheromones. She didn’t know that the bitter orange scent of her own pheromones was also beginning to spread.
Outside the window, the red sun sank behind the distant mountains. Light and shadow mingled, along with the two different scents of pheromones. An ambiguous atmosphere began to weave itself around the window.
Su Guan lowered her head, trying to avoid that clear gaze.
Although the space in front of the floor-to-ceiling window was wide, it was still a limited size. Soon, Su Guan saw the cluttered items on the small marble table.
The furnishings in Gu Yixi’s house were neat and simple. From what she had seen so far, she hadn’t seen such a mess—Su Guan’s gaze was immediately drawn to it.
As Su Guan glanced at the items, Gu Yixi was still standing by the window, stroking Susu’s fur, and suddenly spoke. “Did you know?”
Although the packaging of the items looked unfamiliar, Su Guan still recognized them—suppressors and suppressor patches.
They were brands she had never seen before.
Gu Yixi’s health was not good—this was something she had heard from Wen Shijin, and Doctor Yang had confirmed it. So it was normal for her to use special, high-end suppressors.
A sudden sound pulled Su Guan back to reality.
She couldn’t help but ask, “Know what?”
Fascinated by identifying the suppressors, Su Guan only knew that Gu Yixi’s health was not good and that she needed special suppressors.
At some point, Gu Yixi had also turned around and was staring at Su Guan, deducing something from her just-retracted gaze.
In the air, the fresh, sweet scent and the bitter orange scent were still intertwining.
After being marked, an Alpha and Omega’s resistance to each other was naturally weakened.
The pressure was too strong.
Gu Yixi was about to get to the point, so Su Guan couldn’t look at those suppressors anymore.
“Guan-guan, I need you.”
The orange sunlight cast layers of light and shadow on the woman’s face, and her eyes were misty.
She needed her, not the suppressors.
