Chapter 31: Don’t Knock, It’ll Make Me Dumb

“Sis, which one down there do you think is Xiao Yi?” Su Mengyao glanced downstairs, but from the loft, she could only see part of the scene below.

The restaurant’s first floor had about seven or eight tables, and from up here, they could only make out less than half of them.

Yet every table was packed with at least three or four people—some even needed extra chairs from the waitstaff to squeeze in seven or eight.

Out of the dozens of people, at least half were fiddling with their phones, guys and girls alike.

After all, at a college student group meal, who cared if their classmates or friends were scrolling? Everyone chatted a bit, checked their phones a bit—online and offline hustle, no downtime.

Su Mengli pulled up his photo, swiped to enlarge it with her small hand, studied it carefully for a moment, then compared it to the crowd below for a good long while before saying, “Judging by the photo’s background and angle, he seems to be sitting on the right side. Hmm, since Xiao Yi said he’s out with roommates, it should be that table.”

Su Mengli pointed to the table nearer the door on the right. From up here, they could see four guys eating together—or rather, two guys hugging and bawling their eyes out while the other two played on their phones, occasionally grabbing a bite of chicken from the hotpot and chomping away.

“What about the table next to it?” Su Mengyao examined the photo for a while too, then pointed to the larger table beside it, which had both guys and girls, nearly seven or eight people crammed in. “I actually think this one’s more likely.”

Sigh, this silly little sister was hopeless.

If her classmates weren’t right there, Su Mengli would’ve really wanted to pat her foolish head and say, “Good girl, go play dumb somewhere else.”

But with classmates eating and watching nearby, she had to give her silly sister some face in front of outsiders.

“Xiao Yi bragged about being a hunk—and yeah, there’s no one on that table who looks the part.” Su Mengli patiently explained. “He has no reason to use a voice changer just to play a game like you do.”

“You do it too,” Su Mengyao shot back, displeased.

Su Mengli just blinked at her, saying nothing.

“Fine, go on,” Su Mengyao quickly backed down, though she grumbled inwardly that it wasn’t a big deal to have figured it out a bit earlier.

“And he said he’s eating with roommates. What kind of guy roommates are girls?”

“You’re right.” Su Mengyao nodded thoughtfully, but then something occurred to her. “What if it’s his dorm and some classmates from class eating together?”

“Then he’d say he’s with classmates, not just roommates,” Su Mengli shook her head. “Even if he didn’t word it carefully… look at their postures.”

Su Mengyao peered left, right, up, down, but after a long look, she couldn’t make heads or tails of it.

Su Mengli watched her, silently repenting in her heart for one second.

Had she robbed this silly little sister of nutrients meant for her brain while they were still in the womb, leaving her a bit dim now?

“Look at faces where you can see them; for the rest, check their movements and how they sit,” Su Mengli couldn’t help reminding her. If she let this silly sister keep staring, the guy might leave without her figuring it out.

“Notice how the guys at the table with girls don’t seem the least bit awkward or stiff.”

Su Mengyao stared silently for a good while, then nodded against her better judgment. “Yeah, kinda like you said.”

“Could a total shut-in like Xiao Yi act that natural? Toss him in that setting, and he’d be squirming, uncomfortable as hell.”

Su Mengli sighed. “And you’re asking him to act like those guys down there—either calling out to the girls across from them to drink or chatting them up, or fawning over them. Aren’t you just making things hard for him?”

Su Mengyao thought it over for a long time, then nodded vigorously. “You’re right, it does make sense… but I’m telling Xiao Yi you called him a shut-in again.”

Su Mengli couldn’t hold back and knocked her silly sister’s head—this time without holding back much. Su Mengyao yelped and clutched the spot, wincing in pain.

Su Mengyao grumbled in dissatisfaction but ultimately didn’t dare defy her big sister’s authority—more importantly, she still wanted to hear the rest.

Most people would’ve figured out how to pinpoint Xiao Yi by now, but why rack her brain when Sis was doing the thinking for her?

“And then?”

“Then send something fun and see how they react. That’ll tell you who it is.”

Su Mengli looked at her silly sister in exasperation. “Or do you need me to think of that for you too?”

Su Mengyao shook her head frantically, pulled out her phone, and tapped out a few words on the screen.

Pass One Charm: @Human-Dragon Unity Quick, look—I’m outside with the President.

Mo Xiangwen had just spotted the message and instinctively glanced toward the door—plenty of students passing by outside, but no one lingering.

He immediately knew this silly kid was messing around again. With a wry smile and a shake of his head, he shut off his phone screen and pocketed it.

As long as he waited a bit to reply, she’d lose interest on her own.

Up in the loft, the two girls naturally caught his reaction and quickly ducked their heads back.

“Looks like the one in the gray shirt is Xiao Yi,” Su Mengyao said thoughtfully. “Didn’t expect him to be pretty handsome, though he doesn’t look like a hunk at all.”

Su Mengli sighed. “Can’t you say something useful?”

“Sis, I admit it—you’re just a tiny bit smarter than me.” Su Mengyao held up her fingers to show a minuscule gap.

Su Mengli gazed at her with fond exasperation. “So, what are you gonna do now?”

“Do about what?” Su Mengyao blinked blankly at her sister. “Go down and say hi, scare him a little.”

“He’s eating with his roommates. Is it polite to barge in and bother them?” Su Mengli shook her head. “I should tell Mom to make you retake etiquette class.”

“Nooo, Sis, please! You’re my real sister, right?” Su Mengyao begged. “I really don’t wanna take that stupid etiquette class again.”

“I am your real sister,” Su Mengli shot her a glare. “Looks like you really do wanna go back to class.”

Su Mengyao whined pitifully. “Then what should I do?”

“You’re the one who wanted to treat him to dinner, right? Just have the server go pay their bill first. Easy,” Su Mengli suggested. “It’s Auntie’s shop anyway—putting it on our tab is no big deal.”

Su Mengyao stared at her sister in shock. “Sis, you’re a genius!”

Su Mengli’s face darkened; she was about to give her little head another light tap when Su Mengyao, forewarned, clutched it protectively.

“Don’t knock, Sis—” Su Mengyao complained. “Do it too much, and I’ll really get dumber.”

“That’s what you get for jabbering nonsense instead of speaking properly.” Su Mengli reluctantly withdrew her hand.
