Chapter 2: Support
====================
After breakfast, seeing they still had time, the two decided to take the bus to school together.
Since it was the first day, the school gate was crowded with people carrying large bags and luggage. The two of them looked at each other and realized with a jolt—they had forgotten their luggage!
He Jingsu blinked at Bei Queting. Bei Queting looked back at He Jingsu in silence, a faint blush creeping up her ears.
In the end, He Jingsu took out her phone and called He Ying, explaining that both she and Beibei had forgotten their luggage and asking if she could bring it over.
He Ying, who had been about to head to her dance troupe, was speechless.
For a moment, she didn’t know whether to laugh or be angry. It was one thing for Daidai to be forgetful all the time, but how had she managed to infect Bei Queting?
She agreed and went upstairs to get their luggage. Since starting high school, they had been boarding, only coming home for two days on Fridays. At first, they weren’t used to it, but after discovering that they had more time alone with Jing Dan without the two little third wheels, they had even heartlessly considered sending them to a boarding school with six-month terms.
However, that thought was ultimately dismissed by the last shred of parental conscience. After all, the two cubs at home were quite cute, and they would miss them if they were gone for too long.
Jing Dan tilted her head as she watched He Ying bring the luggage down.
“Come on, let’s go deliver the luggage to our little cubs,” He Ying said, leaning in to kiss Jing Dan on the lips.
“Okay,” Jing Dan nodded, helping her with one of the suitcases.
By the time they arrived at the school, classes had already started. All the students were busy with their back-to-school placement tests, so the only people bustling around the dormitories were parents worried about their children’s sleeping arrangements.
He Ying and Jing Dan first went to Bei Queting’s dorm to unpack her things, which went smoothly. But when they got to Daidai’s dorm, they saw two familiar faces inside. He Ying couldn’t help but laugh. “Did Si Si forget her luggage too?”
Jing Shiyue and Qiu Shuhuai looked up at them and shook their heads helplessly. “Not at all. She was dawdling this morning and didn’t have time to pack, so we had to let her come to school first while we brought her things over later.”
The adults chatted and laughed as they worked. Meanwhile, the “little cubs” they were talking about were sitting in their classrooms, pens in hand, staring at their test papers. Bei Queting, in the science class, was fine; the test wasn’t difficult for her. But He Jingsu, in the liberal arts class, wore a pained expression. She hated that the very first class on the first day of school was a placement test. The single sheet of paper had instantly snapped her out of her vacation mindset.
She turned to look at Qiu Si, who was writing furiously with a focused expression, not sighing in the least.
He Jingsu was speechless. Why is it that out of the three of us, I’m the only one who hates tests so much?
She lowered her head and stared at the clean test paper on her desk, wishing she could burn holes through it with her eyes.
“Miss He, no matter how much you stare at it, you still have to write on the test paper eventually,” the homeroom teacher, Old Liu, said quietly.
He Jingsu was speechless. Her little face tensed even more, but the soft baby fat robbed it of any intimidating effect.
Qiu Si glanced up at He Jingsu, a hint of worry in her eyes.
When the placement test was finally over, He Jingsu slumped onto her desk, feeling as if all her bones had been removed.
“Did you not sleep well last night?” Qiu Si asked, blinking her large, bright eyes. Her face, which bore a slight resemblance to He Jingsu’s, was filled with confusion.
He Jingsu mumbled, “I slept fine, but as soon as I think about being in a different class from Beibei, I’m not fine anymore.”
She and Bei Queting had been together since they were little, eating and sleeping together. Now that they were suddenly separated, she couldn’t adapt at all!
As He Jingsu’s aunt, Qiu Si had grown up with them and naturally knew how close He Jingsu and Bei Queting were. Even she, her aunt, had to take a backseat to Bei Queting.
“But you can still see each other after class, right?” Qiu Si said, puzzled. She glanced around, then leaned closer to He Jingsu’s ear and whispered, “If you can’t get used to it at night, you can just teleport to her dorm bed, can’t you?”
This private, prestigious high school was expensive, but it had its perks. Each dorm room housed only two people, was spacious, and fully equipped. At least the parents didn’t feel like their money was wasted.
He Jingsu’s eyes lit up at the suggestion. That’s right! She could go to Bei Queting’s room to sleep at night. And since her roommate was her aunt, Qiu Si, she wouldn’t have to worry about being discovered!
Having made up her mind, He Jingsu thanked Qiu Si earnestly and then ran joyfully up to the sixth floor to find Bei Queting.
Qiu Si watched He Jingsu run off, then propped her face in her hands and sighed softly, her eyebrows drooping slightly. She missed her own little sister. She always felt sad whenever they had to part for school.
He Jingsu’s classroom, 2-16, was on the third floor. To find Bei Queting in class 2-6, she had to run up to the sixth floor. When she arrived, she happened to see Bei Queting standing in the hallway, facing a tall, slender boy. He Jingsu had seen him a few times; he seemed to be the student council president.
“Beibei!” He Jingsu called out, completely ignoring the boy. She never bothered with people she didn’t care about.
Bei Queting turned at the sound of her voice. Her usually cool, expressionless face instinctively broke into a soft smile. “Why did you come up here?” she asked gently.
As she spoke, she reached out and straightened He Jingsu’s collar.
The boy standing to the side looked a bit awkward. His gaze fell on Bei Queting’s face again, a hint of bitterness in his eyes. This person was always so stingy with her smiles when it came to others.
“Junior, you can think about what I just told you. After all, it’s a good opportunity for you to grow,” the boy said.
He Jingsu, who had been interrupted before she could answer Bei Queting, frowned in displeasure. However, remembering that she had interrupted him first, she decided they were even and didn’t say anything.
“Yes, I understand. Thank you, senior, for coming to tell me in person,” Bei Queting replied, her expression and tone cool and distant, creating a sense of detachment. But her hand was holding He Jingsu’s, keeping her as close as possible.
“If there’s nothing else, I have other things to do, so I’ll be going,” Bei Queting said, not giving him a chance to continue. She pulled He Jingsu toward the stairwell.
He Jingsu obediently let herself be pulled along without any resistance, the smile on her face growing even sweeter.
The boy left behind looked even more bitter. Noticing the subtle glances from others, he composed himself and walked away.
“Why did you come over?” Bei Queting asked again. She had thought that now that they were in different classes, they would mostly see each other during the long break or at lunch.
“I found a solution!” He Jingsu’s eyes sparkled as she repeated what Qiu Si had told her, emphasizing her main point, “I can teleport to your place to sleep!”
That way, she could sleep with Beibei again!
Hearing this, Bei Queting showed no surprise. She just smiled and nodded. “That’s a great idea. But we should probably buy a bed curtain.”
After all, He Jingsu was rooming with Qiu Si, so there was no fear of being discovered. But it was a different story for her; she still didn’t even know who her roommate was.
“Mhm, mhm! We’ll go buy one after lunch!” He Jingsu was delighted. As long as Bei Queting didn’t object, a bed curtain was a minor detail!
Looking at He Jingsu, whose smile seemed to hold all the stars in the sky, Bei Queting smiled back.
She found that she really loved seeing He Jingsu smile. When she smiled, Bei Queting felt like anything could be healed.
Even the pains of the past could be forgotten.
“What did that boy want from you?” He Jingsu asked curiously. She felt like that boy had been seeking Beibei out quite frequently!
“You know how Xingzhi holds an event every year a week after school starts? In previous years, it was always a trip to the city library or doing volunteer work. This year, the senior wants to hand the planning of this event over to me,” Bei Queting explained.
After hearing this, He Jingsu frowned in disapproval. “Why would he dump such a hot potato on you?”
Everyone knew that this event was always met with lackluster results. Reading, volunteering, hiking—these were things they could do on their own. Being forced by the school to do them together always felt like a performance.
Bei Queting just smiled without saying anything. The seniors were all in their third year now; naturally, they didn’t want to get involved in too many things that would distract them.
“Are you really going to do it?” He Jingsu asked, worriedly holding her hand. Hadn’t every event planner in the past been criticized?
“I think so,” Bei Queting said softly. The seniors didn’t want to handle it, so someone had to.
He Jingsu pouted. Seeing that Bei Queting had no intention of changing her mind, she huffed, “Fine, do it! If anyone dares to criticize you, I’ll beat them up!”
Hearing He Jingsu’s threat, Bei Queting couldn’t help but chuckle. Over the years, He Jingsu had been punished for fighting countless times, yet she never seemed to learn her lesson. One moment she’d be punished, and the next, she’d be fighting again at the slightest provocation, never wasting a second on words.
Her gaze softened as she looked at He Jingsu. Don’t be fooled by He Jingsu’s dazed and gentle appearance; she was actually quite easygoing. But if you truly angered her, she wouldn’t hold back. She would resort to her fists immediately, as her sense of human order wasn’t particularly strong.
And many of the fights He Jingsu had gotten into over the years were for her sake, because she couldn’t stand to hear anyone say a single bad word about her.
“Daidai, you can’t keep resorting to fighting. Problems can be solved through discussion,” Bei Queting said, pinching her baby-fat cheeks. Every time this girl, with this face, beat those male students until they were wailing on the ground, she felt a sense of disconnect.
My Daidai is so cute. Is she really the one who can make others cry from a beating?
