Chapter 21: Danger
The large snake retracted its tail.
The coiling sensation around her waist dissipated, and Yu Chujin was relieved.
What is this snake up to? So scary. Yu Chujin silently moved away from it, not forgetting to take her chicken soup with her.
The large snake did not follow, but held back its tears and buried its head to study its own tail.
When Yu Chujin looked over, she saw this scene. The large snake was holding its own tail with its claws, looking at it over and over.
This scene was a bit familiar. The first time the large snake had fed her, it had brought a rabbit. At that time, there was no fire, so she couldn’t eat it, and Yu Chujin had not accepted the rabbit.
The large snake had been very confused about this and had kept pawing at the rabbit with its claws, looking at it over and over, feeling depressed.
The scene at that time and the scene now overlapped a bit.
The only difference was that back then, it was dejectedly looking at the rabbit, wondering why the two-legged creature would not accept the rabbit it had brought. And now, it was looking at its tail, wondering why the two-legged creature would not accept its tail?
Yu Chujin couldn’t figure it out, nor was she in the mood to study what the large snake was trying to do. She lowered her head, lifted a corner of her clothes, and looked at her side.
A patch of skin had been reddened by the large snake’s patting, and it stung a little when she touched it lightly.
Yu Chujin gritted her teeth and looked at the large snake in the distance. This stupid snake, so careless. Even if it had no intention of attacking, she would get hurt if it just messed around a little.
No, I have to keep some distance from it in the future to avoid getting hurt!
Yu Chujin made up her mind to stay away from it, while it was still burying its head and pawing at its tail.
My mate doesn’t seem to like my tail. Why did she hit me? Is my tail not strong enough? Does my mate despise me?
The large snake coiled its tail into a ball, dejected and heartbroken, with tears welling up in its eyes, about to fall.
At the same time, it would whimper from time to time.
With this commotion, it was hard for Yu Chujin not to notice it.
What was this all about?
Looking closely, Yu Chujin finally realized that the large snake’s eyes were teary, and its face was full of despair.
Crying?
What was it crying about? It was the one that had just made a seemingly aggressive move, and she had only hit it back out of necessity. She should be the one crying, right?
Taking a step back, it wasn’t the first time she had hit it. She would occasionally tap its head, and she had never seen it have such a big reaction.
Could it be that its tail was very fragile, and even with her limited strength, it would feel a lot of pain?
She shook her head again, dismissing this guess. She had witnessed the large snake strangle a wild boar to death with its tail before.
Its tail was very powerful and not fragile at all. It was even more impossible for it to be injured by her hitting it a few times.
Excluding this reason, why was it crying?
Not only was it crying, but it was crying into a ball, whimpering non-stop, as if the sky was falling.
Yu Chujin scratched her head. What was going on? It was clearly its fault, but in the end, she was the one who felt guilty.
What a headache.
Yu Chujin bit her lip and then released it, repeating this several times. After hesitating for a long time, she finally moved her feet and took the initiative to walk towards the large snake.
Yu Chujin cautiously stopped half a meter away from it, not daring to get too close.
“What are you doing? You’re so big, what are you crying for? Aren’t you ashamed? No, aren’t you ashamed for a snake?”
“Wuwuwu.”
As it whimpered, it even raised its head and whimpered at the sky.
Yu Chujin’s mouth twitched. She felt an inexplicable sense of absurdity. A snake, like a wolf, was whimpering at the sky.
It was really too ridiculous, too abstract.
“Stop whimpering. Aiyo, I’m really impressed. You were the one who provoked me first, okay? Your tail coiling around my waist really hurt. I told you to let go, but you didn’t. Am I not allowed to fight back?”
“Taking a step back, the force with which I hit you, what’s the difference between that and scratching an itch for you? It didn’t hurt. What are you crying for?”
“Alright, alright, my fault, my fault. It’s all my fault. Stop whimpering.”
“Look at you, why did you even turn your back? Are you ignoring me?”
“Are you really ignoring me?”
Although the large snake had turned its back, as if unwilling to communicate, the small ears on its large head betrayed it.
The small ears were twitching, clearly listening intently, and at the same time, pretending not to be listening.
It looked so silly and dazed.
Yu Chujin thought for a moment, closed the remaining half-meter distance, and took the initiative to walk over and pat it.
The large snake turned its head forty-five degrees, ignoring her, but its small ears were clearly pricked up, for fear of missing any sound Yu Chujin made, even if it couldn’t understand.
Yu Chujin patted it again.
The large snake still ignored her, but its hidden tail began to move uncontrollably, sweeping the ground with joy.
After sweeping twice, it realized, immediately stopped, and secretly glanced at Yu Chujin to see if she had noticed. Then it continued to turn its head and ignore her, pretending that nothing had happened.
What an obvious snake. It couldn’t hide any thoughts at all. Either its ears or its tail would betray it.
Yu Chujin chuckled.
Hearing the laughter, the large snake couldn’t pretend anymore. It turned its head, its round eyes looking at her, trying to analyze why the two-legged creature was laughing.
“You’re willing to talk to me now,” Yu Chujin said with a smile.
“Hiss hiss,” the large snake turned its head away.
Yu Chujin walked around to its front, reached out, and patted its large head.
The large snake subconsciously brought its head closer, making it convenient for the human to pat it. The moment it got closer, it realized that it was currently angry and wanted to retract its head.
It was wildly swinging between wanting to be patted and being angry.
In the end, it couldn’t resist the temptation, narrowed its eyes, and brought its head over, its face written with, I like it, I like it. Keep patting, keep patting.
So easy to please.
“I still have some chicken soup left. Do you want some?” Yu Chujin offered the iron can to it.
The large snake leaned in to sniff it and was about to swallow it in one gulp.
Yu Chujin quickly pulled her hand back, “Hey, hey, hey, you can’t eat it like that. I told you to be gentler when you eat. Besides, this is an iron can. You can’t eat it.”
Yu Chujin demonstrated the action of drinking soup, signaling that it should drink it like this.
The large snake looked at her with a dazed expression.
Then, it swallowed the can in one gulp.
Yu Chujin’s eyes widened. Her first reaction was, “Ah, my can!”
Although the can was very small and couldn’t hold much, it was her only pot, the only pot she could use to make soup.
Her second reaction was, “Wait, that’s iron. Can you digest it if you swallow it? What if you get sick? There’s no doctor here who can save you. Spit it out, spit it out. Spit it out quickly.”
Yu Chujin started to pry open its mouth. She was so anxious that she completely forgot her decision to stay away from it and frantically pried at its mouth.
“Spit it out! Quickly, quickly! Why do you eat everything? You even swallow an iron can. You stupid snake!”
This stupid snake was still out of it, blinking its eyes with a dazed expression.
It’s over. It really swallowed the can.
The large snake wouldn’t die because of this iron can, right? Its digestive ability should be okay, right?
The anxiety in Yu Chujin’s eyes gradually turned to worry. She even imagined the scene of the large snake dying in pain because it couldn’t digest the iron can.
However, the next second, with a “ptooey,” it spat out the iron can.
The intact iron can lay quietly on the sand. The chicken soup inside was gone.
Yu Chujin: “…”
She had worried for nothing. She had thought this stupid snake had really eaten the iron can.
No, wait.
Yu Chujin looked at it with suspicion, “Are you deliberately teasing me?”
The large snake didn’t look at her, its eyes darting around.
Seeing its reaction, how could she not understand? Yu Chujin was speechless. It really was teasing her. This childish snake.
Night fell.
The salty sea breeze blew in her face. Yu Chujin rubbed her arms. It was a little cold.
“Where’s my jacket?” Yu Chujin asked it for the umpteenth time, gesturing the action of putting on a jacket as she asked.
But this stupid snake always looked at her with an innocent expression.
She gave up. It seemed she wouldn’t be able to get the jacket back.
Forget it. There was nothing she could do. She couldn’t have a fight with a snake. Mainly because she couldn’t. It would only hiss.
Now that she had started a fire, with a bonfire at night, it probably wouldn’t be cold.
Before returning to the shelter to rest, she deliberately moved the bonfire next to the shelter. Firstly, for warmth, and secondly, she had to keep an eye on the fire and add firewood in time. Otherwise, it would be a big problem if the fire went out.
Yu Chujin didn’t want to go through the process of starting a fire again. She had to preserve the current fire.
Perhaps because she was worried about the fire, Yu Chujin didn’t sleep very soundly, waking up from time to time.
She would fall asleep in a daze, then wake up with a start, poke her head out to check the fire outside. Seeing that the fire hadn’t gone out, her heart would settle a little, and she would lie down to continue sleeping.
This happened several times a night. The third time she got up to add firewood, she first, as usual, drove away the large snake blocking the entrance, took some dry firewood, and put it on the fire.
The large snake didn’t mind Yu Chujin getting up several times a night and disturbing its sleep. Every time, it would follow her happily, even if it was so sleepy it was yawning, it would follow her without leaving.
“Alright, I should only need to add firewood once tonight. You can sleep peacefully now,” Yu Chujin patted the large snake.
Suddenly, Yu Chujin felt that something was wrong. As if sensing something, she looked up.
On a high branch, a dark shadow, an unknown and rather large animal, was staring intently at Yu Chujin below.
