Chapter 390: The Hunt’s Successful Conclusion
The encroachment wasn’t long. Iä!’s sinister laughter echoed as she sought a new host. Adele was the perfect target. Her instincts warned her, but instincts could be wrong. This was her only chance!
Before possessing Victoria, Iä! observed this world’s humans and their power. Compared to her old, weak world, this one was fascinating. She had devoured all knowledge prematurely in her world. If she had been patient, waited for the five-limbed, eight-legged beings (humans in her world evolved from octopus-like creatures) to create more…perhaps she wouldn’t have ended up alone. This was the consequence of unsustainable consumption.
Knowing human power, Iä! knew she couldn’t escape in Victoria’s injured body. The Ratmen were useless, failing to bring enough knowledge for her to level up. So, like a hermit crab, she needed a new host.
She waited for Adele, then feigned a fierce battle, sacrificing her remaining magic power. No pain, no gain. Iä! learned idioms quickly, especially curses. It seemed curses were the first thing anyone learned in a new language.
Iä! gave Adele the illusion of victory and saving Victoria, so she could strike at Adele’s unguarded soul! She wouldn’t fail again! Her previous failure, the “Dark Day,” was still fresh. Overwhelmed by mages, she possessed Victoria, only to be suppressed for millennia. It was only when Victoria, unable to resist Ron, wanted to use Iä!’s power to protect Adele that the contract was made. This was Iä!’s most humiliating experience as the “Devourer of Worlds.” She wouldn’t let it happen again! She had to have Adele!
Reality unfolded as planned. Adele, unguarded, was hit by Iä!’s mental attack. Iä! transferred her tiny remaining soul to Adele.
At first, like shapeless slime, she roamed Adele’s pure white mental world, a reflection of Adele’s innocent heart. Although calling Adele “pure” was a stretch, aside from her lewdness, she was sincere and kind.
Iä! tried to taint Adele’s mind, but then she froze. She saw something that shouldn’t exist: a door. A mental world should be closed, a box, a room, a peach, a cat, but always closed. An open mental world meant a dissipated soul, only happening after death. But Adele had a door.
A door was a form, a meaning. It meant Adele’s mental world could be opened and closed, or perhaps both at once, a “Schrödinger’s mental world.” This was beyond Iä!’s comprehension, but fascinating! She was curious! No evil god craved knowledge more than Iä!. If I open this door, she thought greedily, I’ll gain unprecedented knowledge and evolve!
Iä! couldn’t resist, even though she knew the safest course was to taint Adele’s mind and control her. Victoria had willingly surrendered her mental world; before that, Iä! couldn’t touch her. But Iä! was driven by her thirst for knowledge. If she didn’t solve the “mystery of the door,” she would go crazy!
So she extended a trembling tentacle and grasped the doorknob. It could be opened… Her hand trembled more, but her resolve hardened. She turned the knob and pulled the door open!
What she saw was unforgettable: an eye, a huge, curious eye filling the doorway, its white like snow, its pupil like cherry blossoms. Adele’s eye! Those unique cherry-pink eyes. Why is there a giant Adele eyeball outside her mental world!? No, not just an eyeball…a giant! A giant Adele outside her mental world!
Iä! glimpsed a vast, star-like world, incomprehensible even to her. Under Giant Adele’s innocent gaze, Iä!’s mind went blank, feeling immense pressure. Even at my peak, there couldn’t be such a powerful soul…
By the time Iä! tried to escape, Giant Adele had reached into the white room and picked up Iä!, who was like black putty. Even at her peak, Iä! couldn’t break free!
“What are you doing…?” she shrieked.
But Giant Adele didn’t care. She had been woken up and was hungry. The elemental dumpling last time was tasty, but not enough. What about this black, flattened dumpling?
Munch, munch… Poor Iä! became a snack. The evil god’s legend should end here, but Giant “Adele,” after chewing, frowned in disgust, then spat out the saliva-covered Iä!.
“Disgusting…” she commented. Iä!’s soul was too mixed, like different colored putty mashed together, turning black. Then, she flicked the slime-like Iä! away, not just from her presence, but out of Adele’s mental world.
In reality, Adele vomited, expelling Iä! along with her food. Iä!’s soul, unlike others’, had a physical form, a lump of black slime. Now, it lay unconscious in Adele’s vomit. Humiliation! Far worse than possessing Victoria. At least then, she had taken root. But here, she was discarded like trash!
Unconsciousness was probably a defense mechanism. This reality was too despairing, her last chance of escape gone. Iä! would soon be contained.
Adele collapsed. Xiaosu, beside her, cried, “Sister Adele! Squeak!” and supported her. Adele, panting, regained consciousness and looked at Victoria, peacefully lying on the ground. The evil god’s power had dissipated.
Xiaosu’s mother, the Rat Queen, was freed. Other Ratmen rushed over, looking at Adele with a mixture of joy and fear. Xiaosu explained, and they realized Adele was their hero! Grateful squeaks filled the air.
Adele’s face turned slightly green, but she held back. Surrounded by rats…anyone would be freaked out! No wonder Ratmen weren’t accepted. Even Adele, with her universal love, felt apprehensive, but she quickly calmed down and gave a speech, promising to have the Enforcement Bureau resettle them, respecting their choice to stay or leave.
Director Yashi arrived, a faint smile on her lips. Adele had surprised her again, using her power for good and achieving great results, forcing out the evil god’s soul and finding the Ratmen.
Yashi walked towards Adele, who was using magic to clean and knead the “evil god slime.” Otherworldly souls had physical forms, like slime, able to possess bodies.
“Congratulations, Adele.”
“D-Director!? Why are you here!?”
“I was an agent before becoming Director. You worked hard. The Bureau will reward you generously. Go rest, we’ll handle the rest~.”
Adele was relieved. “Thank you, Director.”
Yashi smiled and patted Adele’s shoulder. Adele, feeling recognized, looked at Xiaosu and then said to Yashi, “By the way! Director, and them…”
Yashi placed a gloved finger on Adele’s lips, her expression saying, I know, trust me.
Adele blushed and nodded, trusting the Bureau’s experience with foreign races.
Soon, other agents arrived, collecting Iä!’s unconscious slime-like soul in a special container.
Medical personnel attended to Victoria.
The “evil god hunt” ended successfully.
Adele, a mid-level agent, played a crucial role, deserving of MVP. S
he was invited to the Bureau’s celebratory party, but declined.
“I’m sorry, I already have an appointment.”
“There’s a…ahem, a girls’ tea party waiting for me!”
“I can’t let them down!”
Chapter 391: Party Start
After hanging up the phone, Adele put aside work matters and focused on tonight’s party. She was a bit troubled about what to wear. Xiao Ai and First Snow couldn’t offer any useful advice, one being too young, the other having vastly different aesthetics from humans.
Although First Snow’s taste was different, she still considered Sister Adele the most beautiful woman, meow.
As for the other girls? They would just say, “Adele looks good in anything~.” Or like Kaiser, who was always so casual, she would whistle and say, “Clothes don’t matter, they’re coming off anyway~.”
Hmph, if you want to take my clothes off, I’ll strip you naked first. Don’t think you’re so great just because you’re strong. I’m the top dog now!
Adele’s current power level far surpassed her harem. Perhaps Dorothy, with Azathoth possessing her, could also reach a terrifying level of power, but it probably still couldn’t compare to Adele. This feeling of turning the tables is quite nice~ No, wait! I’ve always been the dominant one!
Adele blushed, looking at herself in the mirror. After thinking about it, she decided to just wear her usual clothes, her school uniform. Cromwell Academy’s uniform was already beautiful enough, highlighting a girl’s charm. Dressing up too deliberately would be inappropriate for the party’s main character!
There was only an hour left before the party. Adele had entrusted Celeste, her most trusted golden retriever, with finding a venue. And Celeste did a great job, choosing a suburban villa with a natural hot spring and a garden. They didn’t book a restaurant or hotel because they wanted privacy for this special “gathering.” Without the staff’s attention, they could be more unrestrained.
Unlike in restaurants or hotels, where they were always disturbed by others or noise, a villa in the countryside offered closeness to nature, and they could use all the facilities and entertain themselves. Some girls who had been practicing cooking were eager to show off their skills before Adele. “To win a girl’s heart, you must first capture her stomach.” And besides that, what they talked about more was…ahem, NSFW content!
I said it was a party, why do these girls automatically think it’s something…strange? Adele still remembered blushing when she secretly read the lively chat logs. These girls! What are they talking about behind my back! Even little angel Sharon has been corrupted! Adele couldn’t stand it, but she didn’t stop their chatter and fantasies, just put away her phone, blushing. Then came the scene of her choosing her outfit.
“Beep!” A message from Celeste arrived. It was a picture of her having already arrived at the villa. In the photo, before the golden gate, Celeste made a heart shape with her hands before her chest, the empty space of the heart right at her… Adele’s cheeks, which had almost cooled down, flushed again. She could only mentally call Celeste a “naughty…doggy…” Such an unusual heart gesture. To put it bluntly, it was a “boob heart.” But that was indeed Celeste’s advantage.
Perhaps the golden retriever was a bit insecure. Compared to Hermione and the other Sequence One vampire girls, she was far behind in terms of abilities. Although she used to be stronger than Adele, with Adele becoming a witch and then receiving the True Ancestor’s power, the gap between them was now widening. As for loyalty, this unquantifiable emotion, Celeste couldn’t find a way to prove that she surpassed the other girls. But if there was a way, she would definitely prove it. So after thinking about it, perhaps the only thing Celeste could offer was her impressive figure.
Adele, being perceptive, wasn’t blinded by the…lewdness, but quickly noticed the insecurity behind Celeste’s eagerness. Such a…gentle girl. So Adele replied privately to Celeste:
Adele: I’m leaving soon.
Adele: I’ll be with you soon~ Although not an explicit or romantic confession, the longing hidden behind the simple words still reached Celeste’s heart. She held her phone to her chest, feeling her racing heart, then typed a reply:
Celeste: Mm~
For the rest of the time, Celeste put her phone away, only taking it out for messages from her Master. Because she had to check if the villa’s facilities were up to par. They would be using the kitchen utensils, the stove, the projector and big screen in the living room for movies or games, and of course, the open-air hot spring in the back garden. She was looking forward to soaking in the hot spring with her Master, even though it might be a bit crowded.
Celeste got busy. The villa’s address had already been posted in the group chat, so there was no need to inform each girl individually. They could come according to their own schedules. Some, like Celeste, arrived early, and some arrived just on time. But no one was late. And the one who arrived just on time…was Adele, the host who proposed this party! Along with First Snow and Xiao Ai.
Adele, holding a little cutie in each hand, entered through the unlocked golden gate, walked along a wide path, and before she could even knock or ring the doorbell, the heavy wooden door was pulled open from inside.
What appeared before the girl was a warm and welcoming scene. The entrance hall, not too narrow but a bit crowded due to the girls’ gathering, was bathed in a soft orange light that illuminated their hair and smiles. Isabella, with her dazzling blonde hair and impressive figure, opened the door for her “Master.”
Hermione, standing at the front, her expression as cold as ever, but her eyes soft and gentle. Dorothy, trying to hide the recent blow, her long pink hair now loose, adding a touch of maturity.
Tang Linlang, dressed in a new outfit, a gorgeous style she had never tried before, the effect surprisingly good. And Edith, her face covered with a black veil, exuding a seductive mystery. But the scar on her lips was gone, so there was no need for the veil anymore. Could it be…that she wants to relive the past, to play some…interesting games?
Sharon, wearing a skirt for the first time, clung nervously to Tang Linlang’s back, only half of her blushing face and her light gold eyes visible. She and Tang Linlang had both made bold attempts, so they were close, encouraging each other. A vampire girl and a descendant of vampire hunters getting along harmoniously…this was a scene no one could have imagined in the past.
Finally, there were Kaiser and Wofoo. Kaiser’s outfit was as androgynous and cool as ever, her blue wolf-tail hair draped over her shoulders, a lollipop in her mouth, somehow giving her a carefree, almost smoker-like, coolness. Wofoo’s wolf ears were perked up, a sign of alertness and danger if she were a wolf, but in reality…her tail was wagging, her joy easily discernible.
At that moment, Adele rushed towards her girls without hesitation, and her body was naturally supported by their outstretched hands, a bit like a “stage dive” at a rock concert, where the band members jumped off the stage and were caught by their fans. Note: Not recommended for those with social anxiety.
“Everyone! Let’s start the party!” Adele shouted excitedly, and everyone smiled.
The girls’ party officially began.
