Chapter 75 p1: Plan
Qingshan suddenly stood up, her face changing.
“What happened to her?!”
“She… Miss Jiang went to the hunting ground to hunt. She chased her prey too far and accidentally went out of the enclosure and ran into a horde of zombies…”
Lorian had never seen such an expression on her calm face. Without even taking her scepter, she walked out. As she stood up, she even stumbled and hit the corner of the table.
Qingshan grabbed the church attendant by the collar.
“Where is she now?!”
“She… she’s at the Red Cross… but…”
Before Qingshan could finish, she had already rushed out the door with a limp, mounted her horse, and rushed towards the Red Cross.
Lorian, who was behind her, opened his mouth, but held back the words he was about to say. He looked at her departing back with a complicated expression.
The stack of reports of dead soldiers in his hand fell.
“Zao’er!” Qingshan rushed in, and everyone in the room turned their heads and bowed in salute.
“Prophet.”
Qingshan saw Jiang Zao lying on the hospital bed at a glance, her eyes half-closed, her face a little pale, and one of her legs was in a sling.
Yan Zhen was wrapping a bandage for her by the bed.
She didn’t bother with these people and walked straight to the bed, took Jiang Zao’s hand, and sat down.
“How did you get into such a mess after just being out for a while?”
Only two of the four soldiers who had gone out with Jiang Zao had returned. The other two were kneeling on the ground, trembling.
“I… I was chasing a wild boar and, and, and I accidentally went out of the hunting ground and ran into a wandering zombie nearby…”
Jiang Zao looked as if she had just had a narrow escape. She was obviously very scared. In addition, the white bandage on her leg deeply stung Qingshan’s eyes. She turned around and whipped her horse.
“Useless! How did you protect Miss Jiang!”
“Prophet… Prophet, have mercy… it’s… it’s Miss Jiang who ran too fast, so…”
Jiang Zao stopped her hand.
“It’s not their fault. It’s all me. I was too eager to catch a wild boar for dinner. Who knew there would be zombies there?”
Qingshan’s chest was still heaving.
“Take them away!”
Two church attendants came forward. Before they could even explain, their mouths were covered and they were dragged out the door.
Only then did Qingshan look at Yan Zhen.
“How is her injury?”
Yan Zhen didn’t even dare to breathe, afraid that she would be the next to be executed. She placed her right hand on her chest and answered cautiously.
“Miss Jiang was not bitten by a zombie. She just sprained her ankle when she was startled and fell off her horse. She needs to rest for a while.”
Qingshan had no doubts and let out a sigh of relief without a trace.
“Go out.”
“Yes.”
After everyone had left, Jiang Zao gently leaned against her.
“Qingshan, you’re not blaming me, are you? Your men sacrificed themselves to protect me, and you said that the camp’s warhorses are also very precious. This time, I accidentally lost three of them…”
“How could I? Don’t think so much. It is their honor to sacrifice themselves to protect you. Your baptism is coming up soon. Get a good rest. I don’t want you to not even be able to walk at that time.”
Only then did Jiang Zao nod.
Qingshan tucked her in and was about to get up and leave when her wrist was grabbed. She had to sit back down.
“What’s wrong?”
“I can’t sleep. There are always people walking and talking outside in the middle of the night. You know, a tent is not as soundproof as a stone house.”
A meaningful smile appeared on Qingshan’s lips.
“Then… do you want to sleep at my place?”
“I’m already like this. How can you still be in the mood to joke!”
Seeing her turn away in anger, Qingshan had to compromise. “Alright, then I’ll have half of the guards withdrawn. Is that okay?”
Only then did Jiang Zao turn her head back and gently shake her arm.
“Then can you stay with me until I fall asleep?”
Qingshan raised her hand and tucked a stray strand of hair by her cheek behind her ear.
“Alright. I’ll go after you fall asleep.”
Jiang Zao nodded and closed her eyes in peace.
I don’t know what kind of injection Yan Zhen had given her, but a wave of drowsiness came over her, and Jiang Zao soon fell into a deep sleep.
Qingshan stared at her cheek for a long time. Seeing that her breathing had gradually become even, she couldn’t help but caress her face.
“Zao’er, just like this, stay by my side obediently for the rest of your life, okay?”
The church attendant came in at this moment and said in a low voice, “Prophet…”
Qingshan withdrew her hand. “What is it?”
“Captain Lo is still waiting for you outside.”
Qingshan glanced at Jiang Zao, who was sleeping soundly with her head on her arm. “Tell him to go back. I don’t have time to see him now.”
The church attendant bowed his head respectfully. “Yes.”
It was already the middle of the night when Qingshan came out of the tent. She waved her hand and had the church attendants withdraw most of the guards, and also ordered them to walk around less at night and not to disturb Jiang Zao’s rest.
Yan Zhen was also not yet asleep. There was an injured person tonight, and she had to be on duty. Hearing the noise, she came out of another tent to see her off.
“Prophet, take care.”
Qingshan seemed to be in a very good mood.
“Why are you still not resting?”
“Miss Jiang may still need help at night.”
Ever since Jiang Zao had come, her heart had been filled with her, and she had not looked for Yan Zhen in a long time. But at this moment, looking at her submissive appearance, a little bit of the amorous thoughts that had been stirred up by Jiang Zao today came back. She thought she should vent it properly.
“It’s fine with the other nurses taking care of her. You should also rest. Come to my place in a while,” Qingshan said meaningfully.
Yan Zhen’s throat moved, and she spoke with difficulty.
“Yes, Prophet.”
The anesthetic that Yan Zhen had given her was very precise. It could not only let Jiang Zao have a good sleep and hide it from Qingshan’s eyes, but it also wouldn’t let her sleep for too long.
When Jiang Zao woke up, the tent was already empty. It was quiet outside, and only one nurse was on watch.
Most of the soldiers stationed outside the Red Cross had also been withdrawn.
Jiang Zao gently lowered the tent flap and then slowly walked to the bed, changed into her own clothes, and took out a piece of blood-stained cloth from under her pillow. It was the camp defense map that Yan Zhen had given her.
Wen Zhao had no paper or pen, so she could only cut her finger and draw on the inside of her clothes with her blood. I don’t know how long it took her to complete it bit by bit.
Jiang Zao looked at the bloodstains that had soaked through the cloth, and her eyes couldn’t help but turn red. Her memory was very good. She could remember everything she had seen once. This was thanks to the major she had chosen before, which had given her a strong sensitivity to numbers or graphics.
Jiang Zao put the defense map away, put on her mask, and pulled the hood over her head. She took a scalpel from the tray by the hospital bed and quietly went out.
Tonight, she would scout the way first.
This was not out of distrust for A-Zhao, but to ensure that their escape plan was foolproof.
Jiang Zao crouched down and slipped past the dozing nurse. Taking advantage of the moment the guard turned around, she hid in the darkness.
Thanks to the dense tents or wooden cabins that blocked the view, Jiang Zao did not have to expose herself on the street and could avoid the patrol team members who were holding torches.
Wen Zhao had specially marked the location of the buildings on the defense map. The places marked with an “x” were where the guards were stationed.
These soldiers would not appear on the street, but would stand at the entrance of the buildings or in some shadows where the light could not reach.
From this point of view, Qingshan’s defense of this camp was very thoughtful and complete, comparable to a military camp.
The locations of these guards were also mostly concentrated in key areas such as the school, the Red Cross, the church, and the nursery, which required special care. After passing these places, the number of guards would gradually decrease until they were near the drawbridge at the exit of the camp.
